A visual feast with substance

Just for once it looks like a drama can actually deliver on the hype that preceded its broadcast. From the very first scene, the visuals are stunning, both in terms of graphics quality and (colour) composition.
In the first episode the plot and all actions by the protagonists appear somewhat disjointed which may be a bit confusing, especially to people unfamiliar with the novel or the characters. This is, however, only transitional. As the plot moves on, at a pleasantly fast pace, we are getting to know the main characters and their particular perks so as to anticipate some of their reactions. Meanwhile, the main character, Tang Lici, remains a mystery to both his companions and the audience. It looks like many more secrets are about to be revealed in the coming episodes.
On top of the absolutely breathtaking special effects (there are many) and the luxurious decor and costumes, the major strong point of this drama is its wonderful overall cast with acting heavyweights even in small roles, such as Cui Peng in the role of City Lord (ep. 1+2). ). The main protagonists form a lively trio to keep the viewers amused with their in-jokes and banter while the plot slowly, but steadily pulls them in.
To be continued…

A drama full of beauty

I am not sure if could enjoy the story as much, if it wasn't played by Leo Yun Xi as the main role. But for any reason, I have a really good time watching it. The story line is somewhat unique in some aspects. All the people are beautiful, and also the sceneries. Of course it would be much better if the special effects were more natural.

This drama had me so captivated I barely remembered to drink water. It’s absolutely grand in scale — think The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, but reborn in a Chinese soul. The production feels epic, the world-building immense.

The male lead is both a genius and a master of martial arts, yet constantly finds himself surrounded by betrayal and isolation. It’s not just tragedy — it’s a philosophical reflection on brilliance and solitude, on how greatness often stands alone.

A Sacrifice That Saved the World, But No One Remembers

To start off, Whispers of Fate is a story about rich, complex, yet flawed characters. No one in this world is purely righteous or purely evil, and that is part of what makes the drama so engaging. Every character carries their own motivations, regrets, and obsessions, and those personal struggles shape the choices they make throughout the story.

At the center of everything is Tang Li Ci. His journey is not the typical heroic path we often see in wuxia or fantasy dramas. Instead, it is a gradual transformation. At the beginning, he is driven almost entirely by obsession and a single goal, and in the process, he treats the people around him more like tools than companions. As the story unfolds, the people who enter his life begin to change him. Friendship, loyalty, and loss slowly reshape his understanding of the world and of himself.

Tang Li Ci's character is essentially a blank slate at the start, only knowing his mission as the Holy Son. It is not until he meets Fang Zhou and the others at Zhoudi Tower that he begins to learn what it means to be human. But learning about something does not mean you truly understand it. Through his journey with Chi Yun, A Shui, Shen, Zhong, and many others, he begins to experience these emotions firsthand. In doing so, he gradually comes to understand them, which ultimately helps him achieve the perfect immortal body.

However, my biggest issue with this masterpiece is the ending. Yes, he reverses time and sacrifices himself, and almost everyone receives a happy ending, but not him. At the same time, from his perspective, that may still be a happy ending, since seeing the people he cares about live peacefully is what matters most to him. However, there are still problems with this conclusion, as one character (likely due to a change in the script) is doomed regardless of the timeline.

Maybe it was intentional, because early on, we learn that AS has an incurable heart disease and has been kept alive by GMD’s power. TLC does not know about this and never learns the truth. We learn from the note she leaves for TLC that she placed the power GMD used to keep her alive into the last pill. This confirms that AS will 100% die from the heart disease, and TLC will never learn about it.

Perhaps that was meant to be her form of self-sacrifice, since she knew she was going to die. The reason she wrote everything else in the letter was likely because she knew that if TLC discovered the truth, he would come to save her. Even if it was not romantic, TLC would never allow FZ’s only remaining family member to die if he could save her. Sadly, TLC never learns the truth, which adds even more tragedy to AS's story. I wonder how many people caught these subtle details.

I know the series does not focus on romance. The author, Teng Ping, has specifically said she does not focus on romance when writing the story. A lot of Tang Li Ci and A Shui’s “romance” was likely added by the scriptwriter. Sad to see they kinda built it up and did nothing with it

Overall, I think it is one of the best wuxia-themed dramas in recent years, up there with Blood River.

whisper of blandness with exaggerated unique costumn

honestly what a downgrade of luo yunxi in choosing script like his last best drama will be tteotm and u know what this whisper of fate drama plot is so similar to FOF like everything is same with just different costume just . this drama is so useless bruh if it wasn't for the costumes and like some of the CGI it would have been the worst drama just the popularity of the actor is saving it from embarrassment . if it had simple costumes guess what it will be the biggest flop of luo yunxi ,

水龙吟 I loved Tang Li Ci's Costumes. WoW He is Slaaaying ^_^

I’m only on episode 13, and yes, I’m enjoying the show… but the girl in red (Hong Gu, I think?) is testing every last bit of my patience. Her voice, the way she talks, the over-the-top acting ....I literally cannot. I skip half her scenes just to protect my sanity. Please tell me I’m not the only one.

And Tang Li Ci. The man knows the girl in red is tricking him every single time, yet he still walks right into it like it’s his full-time job.

I got so annoyed I came straight here to check if anyone else felt the same way.
To anyone who replies <3 thank you in advance for validating my suffering. I really hope I’m not alone in this emotional chaos.

Also, I don’t feel ready for romance in this drama yet. The emotional closeness between A Shui and Tang Li Ci didn’t work for me. It doesn’t feel like the right direction for the story, at least at this point.

Loves <3

the ml's beautiful costumes were more interesting than the story

visually wise this is very pretty to look at, i liked all the costumes, each character's styling, the locations, and all the other details they put into production. lyx is also fun to watch, when his character is being edgy

but omg
this was sooo boring and sooo slow with zero emotional stakes, and the boring fight sequences where we got to see the ml show off his impressive dance skills just went on and on and on and onnnnn, it felt like punishment.
the story, told at a glacial pace was pretty dry too: mysterious and misunderstood guy falsely accused of killing big bro is continuously set up by insane and aggrieved former bestie bro aka thanos lite and his cohorts while he (ml) makes a bunch of friends and finds love (probably?) - that was it, until i dropped it anyway. there was nothing to look forward to in each ep apart from the pretty outfits. also this has a large cast, but they are somehow mostly unmemorable.
the main actor does what he does best - he coughs up blood, he's tragic, he's beautiful, he's frail, he knows something you don't, heh.
i'm adding this to the class of dramas i'm temporarily calling the lookables - dramas that look good but are just narratively dry. think fof, love in pavilion, etc.
this drama gave me cherry blossoms ptsd

The storyline is very beautifully and usefully crafted. Sometimes, I am confused by the characters' personalities, which are in conflict between good and evil. I have a lot of questions about Ian's relationship with Vali C. I am eagerly awaiting the next episodes.
I personally love Tang Li Si. Her mysterious calmness is really charming. Her smile kills me. The story and visuals of the series are excellent. My heart has been pounding since it aired.

Excited to see what’s next

Whispers of Fate has exceeded all my expectations. For a production that includes stellar performances from Luo Yun Xi and the rest of the cast, top notch visual effects and costume design, the best thing about it is actually the plot! The story centres around the mysterious protagonist Tang Li Ci (Luo Yun Xi) and his journey to around the world to revive his friend fangzhou, along the way we discover his past, his powers, and fall in love with the relationships (friend or foe) he has with everyone he encounters. It’s a journey for self discovery and it is captivating at every turn. The level of world building is unmatched by any other dramas and the imagination and creativity of the plot is a clever mix of Chinese mythology and western sci fi. I find myself screaming in excitement started at episode 4 and every episode after. Don’t miss this one, it is such a breathtaking masterpiece

Probably the best quality c-drama in this genre so far (have watched a LOT of them)

Gorgeous production quality, intriguing story, convincing cast. For those who love anime and mangas (not traditional C-drama xianxia) or even high end games like black myth - incredibly rendered in live action tv series. The setting and quality is way above the level of the usual (mediocre and obviously fake) fantasy c-drama setting. This one actually immerses you in the world of the characters and draws you into their universe. Many scenes feel more like a movie rather than a TV series, and warrant a rewind / pause just to admire the beauty and vision of the design.

Script and storytelling is tight and fast paced with many interesting hints of what lies ahead throughout for those who enjoy piecing together puzzles when watching c-dramas. This is one drama where you'll be rewinding key dialogues just to make sure you heard correctly and didn't miss a crucial foreshadowing/hint.

Acting here is spot on. All the characters from the subtle but superbly convincing portrayal by LYX to the engaging and interesting supporting characters - succeed in adding to the immersive experience. So far there isn't any jarring or annoying 'pulled out of story' moment from bad acting (unlike in some recent and concurrently airing c-dramas in similar genres where I actually like the Leads and was so looking forward to the tv shows - but alas got unwillingly jerked out of the story by half baked acting, inconsistent character interpretations/portrayals, annoying in-your-face artificial settings, and couldn't continue)

Dropped this chaos

Lots of pretty people and sfx - ambiguous storyline- not binge worthy - not edge-of-seat suspense…
As of Ep 9 … so far, I would definitely not recommend this drama series.
Ep 11 - Dropping this erratic, convoluted, dragging (on and on) drama series.
Honestly watch til ep 11 due to #LuoYunXi and a few other cast members I like/admire… but it’s become more and more annoying.
