Agent Kim Reactivated – Review

Agent Kim Reactivated is an entertaining mix of action, family drama and comedy. The story itself is not particularly revolutionary, but the strong cast gives the series much more personality than its familiar premise might suggest.

So Ji-sub is the clear standout as Manager Kim. He perfectly captures the contrast between a quiet, devoted father and a highly trained former agent. His restrained acting works especially well in the emotional scenes, while his physical presence makes the action sequences convincing. Rather than simply playing a “cool” action hero, So Ji-sub gives the role a sense of vulnerability and emotional weight.

Choi Dae-hoon is arguably the hidden MVP. His comedic timing and expressive acting bring a lot of energy to the series without turning his character into a caricature. His chemistry with So Ji-sub is particularly strong, and he provides many of the lighter moments while still being convincing when the story becomes serious.

Yoon Kyung-ho completes the trio with a tougher and more intense presence. His character adds physicality and a slightly unpredictable edge, while his interactions with Choi Dae-hoon create an enjoyable buddy dynamic.

The biggest strength of the series is therefore the chemistry between the three leads. Each actor brings something different: So Ji-sub provides the emotional core, Choi Dae-hoon the humor and warmth, and Yoon Kyung-ho the toughness.

The story occasionally feels predictable and the tone can shift quite abruptly between serious drama and comedy. Nevertheless, the performances keep the show engaging.

The character Min Ji, who didn't die from blood loss and didn't freeze to death...

Overall, I enjoyed watching it. I was curious. The production, direction, and acting were very good. The action was incredibly satisfying. The excessive flashbacks were tedious. I would have been okay with one, two, or three, but a flashback in every episode was too much.
As for what I didn't like,
The events involving President Ju, in particular, were structured in a way that didn't align with reality. Instead of apologizing to a man he captured two or three times, it would have been wiser to have him surrender to the law. That would have been more realistic. But the fact that the person was left to his own devices each time, and this malicious character, taking advantage of this, constantly harassed, kidnapped, beaten, and even harmed Kim and her friends and their children, didn't work. This person was a character who didn't change his spots. He showed his bad nature every time. We see this very often in scripted games designed to extend episodes, but we also need to look at the events from a more realistic perspective.
The plot already included comedic elements, essentially laying the groundwork for the mistakes made, and it was strange that these types of state agents would behave this way. It was like trying to fix one thing and breaking another. It lacked seriousness. Of course, inserting these kinds of elements to avoid boring the viewer was a nice touch. However, the dosage needs to be carefully adjusted.

Another point is that after the girl, Ji Min, is kidnapped, injured, and bleeds, she's constantly being taken around, which means she's going to die from blood loss. She's also been put in an ice room, essentially given a death sentence. But strangely, she hasn't died, nor has she deteriorated; she's running around and fighting villains. The fact that she's supposed to freeze to death in -50 degrees, or at least be sick and bedridden, is so alive and well, and doesn't even drink a sip of water until her father rescues her, seems to have been overlooked. She should have been taken to the hospital after hitting her head. She should have been under a doctor's care. The conclusion is that if you had asked a doctor for their opinion, he should have been dead. The script was very poorly written. Some things were completely overlooked and I found it lacking in seriousness. I didn't like these things. And there were many similar things, but even this much, in my opinion, cast a shadow on the series. That's why I lowered my rating. However, since I enjoyed watching it, I would recommend it to those who want to watch it. Especially recommended for action lovers.

Agent Kim Reactivated – Strong Start, Repetitive Finish

Agent Kim Reactivated begins on a very strong note. The opening episodes are genuinely engaging, especially the child kidnapping storyline. Watching a desperate father do everything in his power to rescue his child creates real tension and emotional investment, making it easy to get hooked.

Unfortunately, the drama loses its momentum as it progresses. Once the initial plot is resolved, the story starts to feel directionless. Instead of introducing meaningful developments, it repeatedly uses the daughter's safety as an excuse to create more action sequences. While the action itself remains well choreographed, it gradually feels forced because the situations leading to those fights lack substance.

One of the biggest frustrations is the chairman's character. He continuously creates chaos, yet the protagonists repeatedly let him escape or avoid dealing with him decisively, seemingly only so he can return and cause another conflict. This repetitive cycle becomes predictable and makes the plot feel artificially stretched.

Overall, the drama relies far too heavily on action while offering very little narrative depth. After an exciting and emotionally driven beginning, it settles into a monotonous pattern of fight after fight with minimal story progression. If you're looking for nonstop action, it may still be entertaining, but if you expect a compelling plot to match the action, it ultimately falls short.

A Thriller That Forgot to Be Thrilling

I genuinely don't understand how this has such a high rating. This felt less like an action thriller and more like an unintentional comedy.

The biggest issue is how unbelievably unrealistic everything is. I can suspend my disbelief, but this drama asks way too much. Characters infiltrate heavily secured locations, including a North Korean summit setting, with almost no believable resistance. Fights are everywhere, yet guns are mysteriously absent despite the situations clearly calling for armed security. The amount of plot armor is so extreme that I never once felt anyone important was actually in danger.

The pacing is also a mess. The kidnapping of the daughter is supposed to be the central conflict, yet that storyline is resolved surprisingly early. After that, the drama shifts its focus to political and military subplots that I found far less interesting, including protecting a North Korean military figure and drawn-out conflicts with government agencies. It felt like the show abandoned its strongest premise and replaced it with filler. Anything that wasn't directly related to rescuing the daughter felt like unnecessary padding. There wasn't enough tension, character development, or compelling storytelling to justify the detours.

Overall: 4/10. It's occasionally entertaining if you switch your brain off, because some of the characters are actually likeable.

Decent but Slow and Repetitive Story.

I went into *Agent Kim* thinking it was going to be a great revenge story about an ex spy (basically Korean John Wick). And honestly, the essence of that story is there. His daughter gets kidnapped, and he goes on a rampage trying to find her.
But that's where the story starts to feel really repetitive.
First, his daughter is dead... then she's not dead... then she's dead again... and then she's not. I understand that in reality you wouldn't necessarily know whether someone was alive or dead, but after a while it starts feeling like the story is just going in circles.
Which brings me to another thing: why don't they kill any of these people?
I mean, if your kid had been kidnapped by MULTIPLE gangs, you'd think Kim, Park Jin Cheol, and Seong Han Su would eventually start permanently taking these people out. But no — they keep leaving them alive, only for the same people to come back and cause more problems. The biggest example is Kang Guk Cheol, the SMD Director. Seong Han Su literally pulls him out of the water so he doesn't drown... and then just ONE HOUR later, he's kidnapping the girl again. Like, come on! That entire situation could have been avoided if he had just left him in the water.
I can somewhat understand not killing the SMD officials though because they're government officials, but when it comes to the gangs — people who have already committed some seriously terrible acts — it always comes down to a quick fistfight, they beat them up, and then just leave them alive. Maye that's just how the story is written, but it made the whole thing feel unnecessarily repetitive. The revenge aspect had a lot of potential, and the "Korean John Wick" vibe is definitely there, but I kept finding myself thinking, "Why are you letting this guy live when he's obviously going to come back and do the exact same thing again?" Overall, I think the story had a really good premise, but the constant back-and-forth of people being "dead," coming back, getting captured again, escaping again, etc. really started to wear me down.


Next, the casting. I honestly think they were perfect for their roles.

So Ji Sub fits the quiet assassin role perfectly, and bro is JACKED in this movie. His voice is genuinely chilling in some scenes, and he gives off the perfect "father turned professional assassin" vibe. He really sells that character. Yoon Kyung Ho is always one of my favorite comedic relief actors, and I never really find his scenes to be too over-the-top. I think they match his personality and acting style perfectly, and honestly, every scene with him is GOLD in anything! Joo Sang Wook, for one, easily did the most fighting in this movie. Bro kept getting left behind to fight entire mobs of guys in basically every fight scene. But besides that, he's both serious and comedic, which makes the trio work really well. It's almost like So Ji Sub is the serious one, Yoon Kyung Ho is the comedy, and Joo Sang Wook is perfectly balanced between the two. I honestly think the casting was one of the strongest parts of the movie easily.

Now, quickly, the soundtrack and music. I really liked the music in this show, honestly. The intro and outro were instantly added to my YouTube playlist after I heard them in the second episode! They fit the show really well and are definitely some of the more memorable parts of it for me.

Overall, *Agent Kim* was somewhere between decent and okay for me. It had a really solid premise, and there were definitely parts I enjoyed, especially the casting, soundtrack. So Ji Sub absolutely fits the role, along side the other main cast, the supporting cast works really well together, and the intro/outro songs are probably going to stick with me longer than some parts of the actual story My biggest issue was the repetitive story. The constant back-and-forth with Kim's daughter being dead, then alive, then dead again, along with the villains repeatedly being left alive just to come back and cause more problems, really started to drag the experience down for me I don't regret watching it, but I also don't think it's something I'd rush to watch again. The rewatch value is pretty low for me because once you know how everything plays out, I don't think there is enough there to make me want to go through the same cycle again.

I'd say *Agent Kim* is worth a watch if you like action, revenge stories, or So Ji Sub, but for me, it's probably a one-and-done. Decent enough to enjoy, but not quite good enough to make me want to come back for another round.

Furthermore, the entire ensemble cast—from the menacing villains to the stellar supporting actors—brings incredible depth and intensity to every scene.

While the middle episodes occasionally suffer from an overcrowded plot, the visceral action choreography and cathartic revenge elements keep you completely hooked.

Verdict: Highly recommended for fans of gritty webtoon adaptations and top-tier action thrillers.

OG acting and action scenes but MEHH story

Yea it's very addictive story but illogical at times so i wanted to drop it but like i said...... it's addictive so yea i finished it.
But the only two reasons why i am giving this series a rating of 8 is because of ACTING & ACTION SCENES.
And these two are the ONLY REASONS why i kept watching the series.
As for the story, it isn't that bad but it wasn't good either. The story was good but still it wasn't that well written. Many scenes felt forced for the sake of plot. Sometimes the characters were smart and suddenly dumb so some scenes felt very frustrating to watch. Overall, i loved the bromance and in between light comedy. The ending was good but didn't tie up some of the loose ends.
I suggest to only watch it when free, otherwise it's pretty addictive so u will end up wasting a lot of time.

Thought it was good but I was misTaken

A strong 5...

OMG, I really thought this show was going to say something meaningful about bullying, single parenthood, guilt, parenting, etc. Wow, was I misTAKEN. Lmao, I mean, the pun was right there.

I started this at a 6.5, but somewhere after the halfway mark it completely lost direction and slid down to a 6 then a 5. I'm of the camp that this should have ended at episode 7. Everything after that feels like the production trying to outdo itself instead of knowing when to land the plane.

The premise was never original. It is basically the retired black-ops dad formula, Taken with a Seoul postcode. Honestly, I would have been fine with that if the adaptation had brought something new to it, but it really doesn't. Instead, it pads everything. Flashbacks that could have been two-minute scenes are stretched into entire chunks of runtime, and the North Korean orphan storyline feels like the same copy-and-paste plot we've already seen a dozen times. I just wanted one fresh idea. Apparently, that was too much to ask.

Ju Gang-chan is the biggest waste for me. He starts off strong and then somehow becomes more pathetic with every episode. I'm supposed to believe this feared gangster-turned-businessman sold out his entire country because his daughter assaulted a classmate? Then, when his downfall finally comes, we barely see it as enough. All that setup for what?

Then there is our lead, wearing the exact same expression in every single scene. Grief, rage, tenderness, mid-fight, it is all the same face. I cannot roll my eyes far enough.

I came for the action, and some of it is genuinely sloppy, but at least it is frequent. Honestly, though, this show is far more interested in being a comedy about three middle-aged men than the thriller it sold itself as. My respect for the trio and their chemistry is doing most of the work keeping this at a 5.

And yes, season 2 is apparently being discussed.
