Both dramas are inspired by European original stories (one an original drama, the other a novel). They also share a support actress and the director. Sadly, it looks like the technical team isn't the same in Mantis as in Black Out, because it definitely shows. So far (ep 1), Black Out is the better drama. But if you want an European-feeling in your police kdrama, this could also be it.

After watching the Mantis trailer, the flower of evil came to mind. In The Mantis, ML's mom is a serial killer. In the Flower of Evil ML's father is a serial killer. Both stories surround murders and the people who get affected by the killers due to their family ties. So both stories are pretty much similar.

The movie delves into the fate and conflicts of a sorrowful murderer who relies on the death of humans as the anchor of their life, intertwining past and present. Ryosuke discovers a notebook in his father's study, who has only a short time left to live. Written on the notebook is "Yurigokoro," and it contains the memories of a murderer. Ryouke is drawn intensely to the notebook despite harboring various doubts about its contents; whether they are fact or fiction, and what connection they have with his family.

In 1984, a potential serial killer struck again as a ghastly explosion shook the city. Now it’s 2019, and copies of those crimes come to light. Follow the team of detective Jae Hwan, profiler Eugene, and surgeon Jung Yeop assigned to solve both the cold and current cases. Their prime suspect goes by ‘Chimera’, after the beast in Greek mythology. It had the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a fire-breathing serpent.
To capture the criminal, they must first uncover the secrets that link the two cases some thirty-five years apart. Could the clue lie in the tale of the mythical monster?

If you liked Queen Mantis and its smart, intense, psychologically complex female lead, you’ll definitely want to check out The Frog (2024). This K-drama also revolves around a woman with a dark past, and the way she manipulates, influences, and surprises everyone around her makes for a super gripping thriller. It’s not exactly the same, but if you’re into female led thrillers with mystery, you’ll probably love it.

Bedevilled (2010) is a must watch film if you enjoy psychological thrillers with complex female leads. The story follows Kim Bok-nam, a woman who suffers abuse and injustice on a remote island, and her transformation into someone ruthless and dangerous is simply fascinating. Every action she takes ramps up the tension and keeps you glued to the story, unable to look away. It’s different from Queen Mantis since it’s a film, but the suspense, intensity, and the way the protagonist dominates every scene make it just as impactful."
