Chaotic Mission
I had put off this drama for quite some time but decided to watch it when I learned that Seo Kang Joon and Jin Ki Joo are the leads. I am not into high school stories, but having an investigative story appealed to me.What I love about this?
1. The Actors - Kang Joon and Ki Joo. Both have already done many dramas and they deliver. At first, I thought there was no romance angle, especially Kang Joon coming in as a high school student. Kang Joon's visuals, action scenes and comedic parts are all on point. Jin Ki Joo is so cute, they truly complement each other. Kang Joon as Hae Seong the agent showed that he is good at his work, though he had a mishap. Jin Ki Joo as Oh Su Ah is passionate, though out of touch of the condition of her students. Their encounter with each other had taught them to trust each other and work together.
2. The supporting actors -
a. The villains - Kim Shin Rok did great in being controlling and later showing insanity over her greed.
b. The NIS agents - I love them, their banters are so funny. I like that Hae Seong finds a 'father figure' in An Seok Ho as he has no father at a very young age.
c. The students - they may be vying for honors, or rich kids, but they are still kids at heart. And I love how they reacted when they learned that Hae Seong and Oh Su Ah are dating. Dong Min found a friend in Hae Seong.
3. The Story - I like that it is fast-paced, giving us a background first of Hae Seong before diving into his new mission. Despite of the NIS head being a bad guy, they tried to uncover the truth. There are other side stories which I am glad had not been dragged throughout the series. But they have been some elements that revealed more of the characters of the other students and the manipulation of the Chairwoman.
I don't know if we need a Season 2 for this, as he has already exposed himself. To have a spin off perhaps - where would Hae Seong and Su Ah when they get married? Would there be new assignments which can complicate their marriage? Let us see if anyone thought of a second season or a spin off.
And congratulations to Seo Kang Joon for winning the Daesang and the Undercover High School Team for taking the Best Picture Award in the recent MBC Drama awards night! You guys rock!

That Special K-drama Feel
Ahhh this was such a lovely watch, reminiscent of the old k-drama style- comedy, romance, mystery, all blended in together with a cohesive, beautiful cast. This is what got me watching k-dramas in the first place-- character-centric, full of heart, warm, hopeful, and the sweetness of found family. The mystery plot itself may not win any awards but the characters will win your heart. The drama obviously doesn't take itself very seriously, so just be there for a fun, heartwarming ride. We've seen Jin Ki Joo in similar roles before, but I still love the way she brings her character to life-- the innocence, drive, and passion for life, work, justice, and her students. Seo Kang Joon is, as always, handsome and badass enough to distract you from all the little plot holes along the way.

Theory
I have a theory that Ye-na is Jeong Hae-seong’s stepsister, see his father had the same mission and he might met Chairwoman aka Ye-na's mother during the mission and asked her about the school’s details, the four stories so on and so forth that he ended up falling in love with her. And maybe the same guy who snitched about Jeong Hae-seong being undercover student also told the chairwoman that Jeong Hae-seong’s father is also an undercover spy who is taking advantage of her to complete his operation and didn’t actually loved her, as a result she took revenge on him and possibly killed him, but she kept his child, that would explain why she treats Ye-na like that, just using her for her own perfect image and not giving her the love and attention she needs. Was this review helpful to you?

Seo Kang Joon's action spy has some laughs but lacks the gritty edge
After three years, Seo Kang Joon finally returns to the small screen. Honestly, I'm just as mesmerized like everybody else by Kang Joon's piercing brown eyes ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶Undercover High School is an action romcom following Jung Hae Seong, a demoted NIS agent whose new mission is to go undercover in a school to find missing gold bars. Joining him in the hunt is high school teacher O Su A (played by Jin Kin Joo) and together they uncover not only the school's scary stories, but also the bullying and social injustice within its walls.
Incorporating themes of hierarchy and injustices in school in an action k-drama makes me wonder whether the writers may have bitten off more than they can chew. The rigged education system feels like a weak subplot and an excess narrative at times. The show suffers with weak writing and its portrayal of injustice comes across as shallow and superficial.
Despite the seriousness of his character's job, Seo Kang Joon is such a delight to watch. For an NIS agent, he’s far less broody than expected – more a being of goofy yet very agile and combative undercover. Kang Joon seamlessly injects humor even while in the middle of a risky operation. His comedic timings also hit the spot and are praise worthy. I would really love to see him next in an office romcom because suits definitely looks good on him >ᴗ<
On the other hand, Jin Kin Joo's character seems to be one-dimensional. She plays the character of a contract teacher who aspires to be a full-time faculty member as she once promised to one of her students. There is only so much a versatile actress can do with a poor character writing. The same goes with the rest of the cast - they are as tropey and typical as K-drama characters come, but in a way that’s also their job, to sprinkle in laugh-out-loud moments in this top-secret operation.
Poor character writing is also evident on the story's antagonist. At first, the school's chairwoman, Seo Myeong Ju (played by Kim Shin Rok), appears to be too powerful and cunning to be defeated, only to have questionable cards up her sleeves. The way she effortlessly bounces back from defeat is unconvincing. If only they had shared some backstory about Myeong Ju, it might have been easier to understand and relate to her obsession with gold bars and elite school. However, kudos to Shin Rok for portraying her with such steely grace and eerie aura. Her choice of clothes is also an eye-turner and a highlight every episode.
The pacing of this show is also an issue for me. This would have worked better as a movie rather than a TV series. Even though this series only has 12 episodes, it somehow feels like it stretches on forever mainly due to filler scenes and characters constantly getting sidetracked along the way. The conflict itself also feels less gritty and intense as the story progresses.
To sum up, Undercover High School is your subpar action k-drama. It's such a letdown that a series with a promising gist and talented main cast gets bogged down by generic and uninspired writing. Anyways, I'm still thankful this cured my kdrama slump. There is nothing a charming and swoon-worthy oppa can't cure after all.

THIS THE BEST DRAMA OF 2025
OMG, where do I even start?! This drama is an absolute **masterpiece**! The entire cast poured their hearts and souls into their roles, delivering a performance so **spectacular** that I genuinely felt every emotion they conveyed. From laughter to suspense, from chaos to thrill this drama **had it all!**At first, I won’t lie, it gave me *Main Hoon Na* vibes, and I was skeptical because *teacher-student romance?* Hmm, not my thing. But BOY, was I **proven wrong!** It turned out to be one of the **funniest K-dramas EVER** probably the best after *Welcome to Waikiki*! Like, I laughed so much, my stomach *hurt*! The comedic timing? **Immaculate.** The way they balanced humor, action, and suspense? **Flawless.**
Now, about the **romance** there was plenty of it, but what I loved the most is how they didn’t just *focus* on it. Instead, they gave us this **wild mix** of chaos, thrilling undercover missions, that *gold hunt plot*, and childhood connections! When they revealed that O Sua was his childhood friend, I had a moment of "Oh no, here we go again with childhood fate tropes" but **THANKFULLY**, they didn’t drag it out for eternity! Just **30 minutes**, and we moved on! *Perfection!*
And **that 11th episode??** I was genuinely on the edge of my seat. I thought, "*Wow, a K-drama that won't pull the usual 'ML gets injured, disappears, then miraculously returns last minute' trope!*" But then... *BOOM*, he got injured. I swear, I was **this close** to throwing my laptop! But thank the K-drama gods, they didn’t **ruin** it like some shows do. The way they handled it? **Satisfying.**
Now, let’s talk about the **supporting cast.** ML’s cousin (ugh, why can't I remember her name?!) was **a little annoying** at times, and Yena? Oh boy, she had her moments too. But honestly? Given the kind of environment she was raised in, it *makes sense* that her social skills were *non-existent*. I actually appreciate how realistically they portrayed that!
**Overall?** **PERFECT. PHENOMENAL. ICONIC.** Every actor delivered **top-tier** performances, the script was engaging, the balance of genres was **chef’s kiss**, and I am **manifesting** a second season SO HARD. The world needs more of this undercover high school drama. **We deserve it!!**
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be rewatching the funniest scenes on loop while praying for Season 2! 🛐✨

The story follows Jung Hae-seong (Seo Kang-joon), a top National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent who, after a failed mission, is forced to go undercover in Byeongmoon High School. His screen presence is magnetic, and he flawlessly balances his role as both an elite agent and a high school student. 2. Handsome ML
3. Adorable FL
4. Character Development
5. Interesting subplots
6. Cinematography
7. OSTs.
8. A really smart villain.
Minus points:
1. The whole NIS team is kind of dumb and not secretive enough.
2. Why 12 episodes only.
3. If one wants to enjoy an entertaining drama then this is great. But if they want to watch it for NIS stuff, they are gonna be disappointed.

I miss my Quiznos!
Seo Kang-joon. Those eyes...that charisma, those dimples...and making me miss my local Quiznos!! What an endearing show that you practically know what the trajectory is going be if you've watched its twin-spirit show that came first, 'My Strange Hero.' Our villain gave what needed to be given!!!!Also, give our ML and FL more things together but with actual romance this time!

Well-rounded mix of genres – comedic and suspenseful with a heart
Finished the show today and all I can say is – what a ride! It has been fun and enjoyable all throughout. The suspense was just right and the plot about finding the gold, tied up with obsession, education system and commentary about social equality were well done. The villain reasoning about how life isn't fair and because it's impossible to fix it, she's gone crazy and leads the evil instead? Good arc, though had this been up to 16 episodes – it'd be great if they could expand more on this. Now, for the comedy – it is slapstick and it's been incredible and hilarious, and never removed the sincerity from the serious topics.
Honestly, I hoped for more obvious romance in the last episode – but nevertheless, the romance is good all throughout and thankful for what it delivered in the end.
I am happy for all the characters from main to supporting. The villain is deliciously written and the Kim Shin Rok is fantastic!
Seo Kang Joon never disappoints – I love how he played his undercover front as high schooler with grumpy and sassy attitude, and all the serious scenes with such heartfelt expressions. Such a gorgeous actor with great acting chops there and there. Overall I never doubted him for a second and happy for him that he acted in this wonderful show.
Jin Ki Joo, to me, is indeed the wildcard here. I never thought watching this show would make me love her as an actress! I love how she brought Ms. Oh to life – she's very expressive and you can see how she always wear her heart on her sleeves. She's also really pretty and gave so much life to the show just by being there. Remember the scene where she's blushing and blames Hae-song's face – her acting is just natural and fantastic.
Both our leads compliment each other so much, and all their scenes especially the one where Hae-seong realize that she is his first love – my screen is just overflowing with love and heart eyes.
Overall, this will be now on my list of comfort dramas 💛. Fun, serious and suspenseful with a heart – not perfect, but a well done show.

Fun But Messy
This drama started off with a really interesting premise, but somewhere along the way, it kind of lost focus. The whole gold storyline was introduced as a big deal, then just… got forgotten? Logic also took a hit in the later episodes, but for some reason, I still kept watching. I guess it had its fun moments!I liked the ghost stories—they were actually pretty cool! The second couple was entertaining too, even if they were mostly there for comedy. Speaking of comedy, they really threw in a lot of random stuff, and while some of it was funny, a lot of things just didn’t make sense.
I absolutely loved Yena and Yujeong’s friendship—I ended up shipping them! And the villain? Completely unhinged, but the actress nailed the role. She was so good.
Also, Jin Ki-joo is amazing as always, and this was actually the first drama of Seo Kang-joon’s that I finished—he’s definitely handsome!
Overall, the drama had its flaws, but it was still a fun watch in its own way. I just wish they had kept the focus on what they started with!

Why to Watch
Im a person who loves a lot of genres and cant really stick to one. Personally I watch a lot of thrillers, mysteries, romance and comedy and this one just felt like a blend of all. Along with that i dont like mysteries that are super heavy headed and complex as they become difficult to understand and the whole point i watch dramas is to relax. This drama is a great great binge and everytime i watched an episode I couldnt stop moving to the next one. If you like a blend of mysteries and romcom , this is the right fit for you.Was this review helpful to you?
