Good fun with a splash of romance, mystery, adventure — just the way I like my K-dramas!

When a handsome, down-on-his-luck government agent (Seo Kang Joon) goes undercover as a student at a swanky private high school, he stirs up plenty of trouble (and interest) as he struggles to balance his mission with issues he encounters at the school — including bullying, power-tripping rich kids, suspicious school officials, and a certain female teacher (Jin Ki Joo) who’s determined to keep an eye on the new “problem student.”

Pairing leads from two of my favorite dramas (“Are You Human Too?” and “The Secret Life of My Secretary”), I was looking forward to this show, and it didn’t disappoint.

Seo Kang Joon brings a certain intensity to his roles that works well for the male lead, Jeong Hae Seong. You get the sense that even though he might look like the strong, silent type, there are a lot of emotions simmering beneath the surface.

Part of an intelligence team tasked with locating stolen cultural treasures, Agent Jeong looks effortlessly cool and confident on the job but also has moments of being awkward, easily embarrassed, and overwhelmed by his emotions. At heart, he’s just a nice guy with a lot of empathy who also happens to have some impressive fighting skills.

His character is multifaceted and gets more of a backstory than Jin Ki Joo’s female lead, Oh Su A, a teacher who’s caring and determined to make a difference for her students, but a bit silly. However, she does get some character growth, and JKJ gives a charming performance. The two of them have a playful, somewhat goofy dynamic that’s fun to watch, even though the romance takes a back seat to other plot elements.

There are also plenty of interesting characters besides the leads, particularly Chairwoman Seo. She’s a terrifying and formidable villain without being one dimensional. Her daughter, the student council president, is also a well-written and layered character— infuriating and pitiful at the same time.

Although this series does touch on a few serious topics (including the previously mentioned bullying and self-harm), it’s an entertaining watch that’s exciting from the get-go, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and offers lots of laughs, all without stretching out the story with too many episodes. Plus, everything gets wrapped up with a satisfying ending where the main characters each get their own little epilogue. Recommended!

seo kangjoon really sold the undercover chaos

It totally caught me off guard in the best way! I went in expecting just a goofy undercover setup, but ended up loving the mix of comedy, mystery, and heartfelt moments. Seo Kangjoon was hilarious and surprisingly touching as an agent pretending to be a high schooler, it gave me so many laugh-out-loud scenes and sweet little moments of connection with the students.

It’s a light, fun watch that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and honestly, that’s exactly what made it so enjoyable

It was a good one I would say

Storyline was a bit expected and basic (it wasn't a problem for me though, neither for the drama itself) I dropped it at 9 episode just cause I was kind of distracted I guess, and then watched it all over again and finished. Eventually, I realized that the good part was there all along... It was an all rounder; it had romance, comedy, mystery, action, drama.. touched on everything from time to time, also loved that way about this drama. OST's was good too, "Love is you" was my favorite. Also I can't leave without adding this... leading couple was sooo cute, made me kick my feet!! I would liked to have some more romance in the storyline but it's okay, they still carried it out so well. Anyways at last, honestly the cast made me watch it. Especially Seo Kang Jun and Jin Ki Joo (obviously) I loved their chemistry. I would love to see them again in another project. I wish..

too comical to be taken seriously, simply put lacks in all genres

I'll try to keep it short, this is one of those dramas that you forget once you finish watching.

comedy-wise even when's its fun it's cringe
romance-wise even when it's sometimes cute it still lacks and feels forced.
detective story-wise it's farcical, comical and unrealistic.

the story lacks the least sense of realism, it's just too unrealistic you have to turn your suspension of disbelief gauge to the max all through the watch, nothing made sense when it came to the "undercover mission", one moment they're using high-end gadgets to break through locks, scramble cctv cameras and one moment they have to resort to dancing on the street to gather signatures to gain access to a room with a measly pin code lock they could have easily broken through!

the villain was simply put cartoonish-ly evil, I mean she's shown to be someone who doesn't flinch ordering her henchman to kill anyone who stands in her way, and is unfazed shooting a shotgun towards a bound reporter to intimidate him just simply cause he refused to do her bidding, or beats up a congressman for talking back, but the next moment she has to resort to spreading rumors about our main couple being in a teacher-student romance! we're like pick a lane lady, either be the evil criminal mastermind or be a comic book villain who lacks imagination.

the whole premise about solving clues relating to ghost stories in order to uncover the hidden gold seemed fun at the start but soon it just fizzed and died out, and when they suddenly remembered it the last couple of episodes it was too frustrating to watch how everyone's IQ fell sub zero unable to guess the simplest of riddles. honestly speaking as a viewer I never really cared about the main mission of finding the gold bars, it was simply put ridiculous not to mention unfounded by any evidence to begin with. Midway through the drama I found myself feeling thankful for the missing father plot which was more of a convincing catalyst to keep pushing on with this stupid mission of finding the gold bars.

As for the romance plot, I don't know what made me not sold for their romance, maybe their interactions were more fun when she thought he was a student, but after she found out his true identity and their childhood connection, don't blame the viewer who expected some sort of progress and was disappointed they were acting more like two detective partners, I don't believe it was a problem at the actors' part, but more of a writing issue.

considering the fact I watched the last 3 episodes on 1.5X speed and even skipping many scenes, I just reached a point I didn't mind any stupid or unbelievable things that was taking place on screen; like how untouchable and all powerful they had to make our silly caricature of a villain, she controls politicians, police, prosecutor and everyone else in the country for some unknown reason, that was simply absurd. Also we get a fugitive on the run who suffered a major car accident miraculously healing with a good night's sleep and some damp towels! And then conveniently having a bunch of mattresses laid out under his hotel room so that he can escape the police pursuit!!! WHAT?! I reached a point I was certain the writer's didn't give a sh** about the viewer's intelligence anymore.
overall, this is a drama I chose to watch till the end cause I had downloaded it otherwise I most probably would have dropped it. do not recommend.

Seriously what was that?

When I saw the ratings and hype around this show, I was so ready to enjoy a good action comedy. However, I finished feeling underwhelmed and annoyed. Let’s start with the good; I loved the male lead. He brought a lot of charisma to the role. Observing him move around the school and engage with the students was entertaining. The students were also a fun watch, particularly Ye Na, as she was probably the only major deviation from the typical tropes. Now the negatives. I did not care for the romance in this show. It felt forced, with very little romantic chemistry between the leads. At first, the female lead made me feel really irritated and uncomfortable. It took quite a long time for her to grow on me and she ended up being lukewarm at best. The villain was a lifeless caricature that left me feeling indifferent. The actress gave a decent performance, but you can only do so much with poor writing. She wants money, she wants power, yawn. There was an opportunity to make her more layered. Speaking of the writing, the numerous plot holes made me feel as though I was watching a children's film. When they revealed the picture of the male and female lead “dating,” I was wondering how it took so long. These are probably the sloppiest NIS agents ever. Some might say I’m taking this comedy too seriously. You might be right. I think I’d be less critical if they leaned a bit more into the over-the-top and campy nature of the drama. However, tonally they were all over the place. Overall, the show is just fine; albeit rather predictable (down to the final reveal about the gold), but it has moments of entertainment.

Just enjoy it for what it is!

"Undercover High School" is a riveting Korean drama that deftly combines elements of suspense, emotion, and youthful exuberance. Its storyline revolves around an undercover operation in a high school setting, where secrets unfold and relationships are tested against a backdrop of crime and mystery. The plot is intricate, weaving together various threads of teenage life with the darker undertones of deception and intrigue.

From the moment the drama begins, the audience is drawn into a world where nothing is as it seems. The protagonist, tasked with infiltrating a high school to uncover illegal activities, faces the challenge of balancing their undercover identity with the emotional turbulence of teenage life. The narrative is enriched by the well-executed character development, especially that of the protagonist, who evolves from a detached operative to someone deeply entangled in the lives of the students.

The ensemble cast delivers commendable performances, bringing a depth and authenticity to their characters that adds layers to the story. The chemistry between the lead actors is palpable, creating moments of tension and tenderness that resonate with viewers. The supporting cast also shines, with each character adding unique dimensions and complications to the storyline.

The cinematography deserves special mention, capturing the contrasting worlds of the high school and the stealthy operations with equal finesse. The drama's setting is meticulously crafted, adding to the overall tension and atmosphere. The soundtrack complements the narrative beautifully, enhancing key moments with its evocative melodies.

The writing is sharp, seamlessly blending moments of levity with scenes of high stakes and emotional depth. "Undercover High School" does not shy away from addressing complex themes such as identity, loyalty, and the moral ambiguities faced by the characters. The pacing is well-controlled, maintaining suspense and keeping the audience engaged throughout the series.

Overall, "Undercover High School" is a must-watch for fans of Korean dramas who enjoy a mix of action and drama. It stands out for its compelling storyline, strong performances, and thought-provoking themes, making it a remarkable addition to the genre.

started out slow, and now it has me hooked

I thought was going to be another failed launch, 2025 hasn’t been a great kdrama year so far, first 2-3 episodes were meh, but suddenly the comedy kicked in, and so did the romance and now I’m super hooked. not yet finished but loving it so far! will come back to revalidate rating.

ML is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! one of the reasons I thought weird at the beginning was because the of INMENSE GAP between ML and FL physical beauty to be honest. also FL seemed kinda dumb. but somehow their chemistry kicked in mid drama, and so did all the other characters developing: villains become more villainous, heroes become more héroey.

OMG ABSOLUTE CINEMA it had the best combination of all the generes.I didn't expect it to be funny and all but it lit made me laugh sm which just made the drama 100 times better. It was very thrilling as well moreover it made me cry alot of times as well which again made the whole drama most great.I do think the ending could've been a little more better but other then that I had no complaints for the rest of the episodes.I LOVED THE MALE LEAD SM.Lastly imo the drama is definitely worth watching and I can't wait to rewatch it.

This was a fun breezy watch. Lately it’s either too series or too brainless it’s frustrating
But this had a good balance, maybe it’s better for a binge cuz it’s that effortless

I've missed soe kangjoon a lot, so the extra 0.5 is for him
my girl kijoo is one of the rare fully totally cuties so it's also always a plus to see her~

there are shortcomings, but lately finding a solid passable drama has become harder than finding a masterpiece xD

the events moved well eventho it felt like the bullying was taking too long, they were able to add "18 again" like comedy and even threw jabs at their own plot of a 30 year old acting 18

the childhood connection was obv added to speed up a romance that wasn't the main point, eventho I wish it was cuz they made the cutest couple, and kangjoonie's eyes sparkling, or him lowering his stance to match her eye level and the way he listens to her talk, a romance genre would never ;(

My kangjoonie is such an amazing actor, the sad parts make him shine💖
And O Su A was honestly smart, she solved like half their problems

the big plot of the gold, especially the mystery around his dad, I wish they did it a bit more quirky, like a nancy drew mystery game, a full treasure hunt type
the betrayal was really sad and it never really felt as deep with the revelation that they always had it under their nose, eventho he was gonna reveal it he just suspected someone was betraying them, but it was just too sad

There is maybe some imperfections in the finale, but this the fact is undeniable "THIS SHOW ROCKS". The Characters and the acting is on the point. I loved Hae-seong and Oh-Sua very much, their chemistry is everything. This show made me always look forward to fridays and saturdays. The whole show is entertaining but the FOURTH EPISODE THO🤣🤣. A Fun Ride but skip it if you're only interested in the Romance

That was such an entertaining show ^^

I wouldn't call it best of the year, but it definitely did its job well... There was a couple of plot holes due to writing convenience at times... or lack of time (especially the last 2 episodes) such as Hae Seong being fired from NIS than being cleared and reinstated God knows when since everything happened in a very short timeframe.
My biggest complain would be the chairwoman... Kim Shin Rok was terrific in her role but too cartoonishly evil for my taste. I wish we knew a bit more about her background, because that would have made her evil behavior not more acceptable but at least understandable. We were given crumbs of explanations here and there but nothing to fully empathize with her character and which Ye Na "accepting" her mom just... I don't know?

The epilogue felt a bit lackluster... due to time constraint... But I was psychologically prepared. There was no way I'd be satisfied unless the final episode was at least 1h and a half but this wasn't that show.

On a shallow note, Seo Kang Hoon was an eye candy from start to finish EXCEPT for this awful hairstyle in the final scene. I don't understand why they had to change HIS hairstyle when Soo Ah's wasn't changed. The Fudge?

Anyway, a solid 8.5. Thoroughly entertained in spite of some flaws. I doubt we'll ever get a second season... and I' d rather we stayed on this high note... But if they ever do one I'll be tuning in ^^

A charming watch

Undercover High School is the good and bad in k-drama all in one. A great premise for a comedy, a good villain, extreme product placement, and underwhelming romance/melodramatic cliches.

It's one of the funniest dramas I've seen, the actors are so good at making you laugh just with their faces. The ML has a lot of charisma. The FL (though a bit underused) is easy to like. Both leads are great at comedy. And we have a villain who you can't take your eyes off of.

Personally I wish this drama was a lot longer than it is. I would've loved to see filler episodes with the ML having to live a normal life as a high school student. The premise of the drama (an NIS agent having to pretend to be a student) would've led to a lot of natural comedy there. And on top of that this high school is such a cool-looking place.

Overall a fun watch! Just be ready to hit fast forward at times
