Worth watching, A great production, Great acting from both ML & FL
I don't get why viewers are getting mad at the Female Lead. She's a great actress, especially her cold, strong expressions & her fighting scenes are so great. It's just that her character, she did so well for her character. She did an amazing job in her previous CDrama- Love of the Divine Tree. In here also she's doing an amazing job. please appreciate her acting. if you don't like her character in this drama, it's ok. She needs to act according to the given character, not as fans need. please appreciate her work as same as you appreciate the male lead. This drama is so good. The plot is amazing. Don't compare this with other detective dramas. Look at this from a different angle. Because this drama has a different plot. Just enjoy this the way they present it. it's really good to watch. From acting to cinematography, all are perfect. Was this review helpful to you?
Fun, Engaging Mystery
Over all this show was fun, engaging with a clever plot that unravels at a good pace.. It doesn't give itself away until it is ready to reveal elements. Particularly enjoyable that it doesn't sacrifice character, especially romantic leads, for cliché plots. Both the Female Lead and Male lead are well developed and acted. The romance element doesn't subsume the story so things unravel naturally and characters develop, learning as things happen. Even the secondary characters have depth and are able to contribute to solving plot points. The only real flaw is that the Villain Lead when revealed feels over the top to the behavior of the character previously and becomes a bit stereotypical. Was this review helpful to you?
Worth watching
This drama was good. The plot twist was very good as well. The unexpected twist was amazing and I just wish the villain suffered a little and regretted why he did all he did. Though the villain was one of my fav casts but I just wish we could see small of his suffering. Also, the main lead is super smart and he was so fast with his thinking. I wish I saw more of him fighting. Was this review helpful to you?
Enticing, captivating, intriguing, interesting suspense drama!!!!
With a well written plot, fast paced story, no messy side plots, mind blowing twists and turns,The Wanted Detective, has truly impressed me and by far the best detective drama I have ever watched!!The storyline and its execution is excellent💯👍
The acting of the cast is perfect.
Wang Xingyue has truly excelled in this role and is phenomenal in his acting. 👌
I liked the friendship between Xiao Beiming, Zhong Xueman, Huo Dairong, Feng Qingzhou and Zhuge Kongyun.
A special mention of Deng Kai as Zhuge Kongyun and He Luoluo as Tong Shuang, they really excelled in their roles. 👏
The music is good, action scenes were perfect with not being over the top, and everything else is good.
This was the drama that kept me hooked right from the start itself and imho, I didn't find any boring moments, but rather was deeply invested in it.
The plot proceeds at a very steady pace, the investigation is very good and how the group join hands together to solve the center problem of the whole drama,is truly impressive😍
On a final note, A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DRAMA which is teuly thrilling right from the start and takes you on a roller coaster ride of investigation, emotions, friendship, love, hatred, and trust.
Thank you team The wanted detective for this MASTERPIECE. I cant wait to recommend enough this drama., 💯👍👌

Every Genius Is a Little Guilty
In the world of The Wanted Detective, justice wears a fugitive’s cloak. Xiao Bei Ming, once hailed as the best detective in Qi, is forced to flee after being accused of being a serial killer. Three years later, he returns to the capital, determined to clear his name. Reuniting with his junior Zhong Xue Man and joining forces with Feng Qing Zhuo, Huo Dai Rong, Tong Shuang, and the ever competitive Zhuge Kong Yun, he dives into a string of bizarre cases. Each mystery pulls them closer to the truth behind Night Evil, the unrest shaking Qi, and the shadowy tragedy of Haiya. Saving the world? Casual. Clearing your own name while doing it? Now that is multitasking.I did not expect this drama to hook me with its intro OST. It has this stylish hip hop vibe that made me sit up and think, wait, are we solving crimes or dropping a mixtape? Either way, it worked. And then came Xiao Bei Ming doing what he does best: flexing his brain cells like they are Olympic gold medalists. His deductive skills are almost too good. Sherlock Holmes would probably raise an eyebrow. But brilliance, when mixed with unchecked confidence, can quickly curdle into arrogance. For me, Xiao Bei Ming often crossed that line. His condescending and at times misogynistic remarks toward Zhong Xue Man, disguised as protectiveness, were particularly disappointing. Genius is attractive. Smug genius who underestimates his partner? Not so much.
That said, credit where it is due. Wang Xing Yue plays Xiao Bei Ming with mischievous precision. His line delivery is sharp, and when the script gives him fiery speeches about justice and truth, he absolutely devours them. Goosebumps were had. My disconnect lies not with the actor, but with the character’s personality. I admired him more than I liked him.
I had high hopes for the romance between Xiao Bei Ming and Zhong Xue Man. Visually, they are stunning together. Childhood friends to lovers is usually my jam. Yet the chemistry never quite sparked. It felt less like fate and more like proximity. They love each other because the script says so, and because they have always been there. The flutters? Missing in action.
However, Zhong Xue Man herself is a delight. Xiang Han Zhi may still be honing her craft, but she captures the fiery determination of a young woman desperate to break free from societal expectations. Her Zhong Xue Man is smart, brave, and adorably intense. She genuinely looks like an angry bird when she is riled up, and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible. Unlike the usual slow motion flailing we sometimes see in period fight scenes, she moves with speed and purpose. When she throws a punch, you feel it.
If Xiao Bei Ming is the brain and Zhong Xue Man is the heart, then Zhuge Kong Yun is the glitter cannon of chaos. He constantly turns investigations into a competition, trying to outshine Xiao Bei Ming at every corner. Yet beneath that rough, boastful exterior lies a genuinely kind and principled man. He is also low key cupid, nudging the main couple along while pretending he is above such trivial matters. Deng Kai clearly understood the assignment. From the bombastic braids to the dramatic outfits and theatrical bravado, he almost steals every scene he is in.
One of the drama’s greatest strengths is its teamwork. This is not a one man genius show. Xiao Bei Ming, Zhong Xue Man, Feng Qing Zhuo, Huo Dai Rong, Tong Shuang, and even Zhuge Kong Yun in his own way, function as a unit. Each member brings distinct skills, perspectives, and emotional baggage. Their mini arcs explore trauma, loss, and personal grievances that shape their moral compass. They make good decisions. They make questionable ones. They argue, banter, and support each other. It is this imperfect humanity that kept me invested.
He Luo Luo shines as Tong Shuang, delivering a charismatic and empathetic performance, especially in his bromance with Xiao Bei Ming. There is an emotional undercurrent to his character that adds depth to the group dynamic. Zhang Nan does well with Huo Dai Rong, though the script does not give her enough room to truly soar. Chen You Wei’s Feng Qing Zhuo is credible, steady, but not particularly scene stealing. Still, as an ensemble, they work.
The cases unfold in a case within a case structure, each mystery revealing fragments of the larger conspiracy tied to Haiya. There are mild fantasy elements woven in, adding an eerie, almost gothic chill to the proceedings. Every new revelation deepens the dread. What really happened in Haiya? Who is Yesha? And what is the endgame?
The writing plays fair. There is misdirection, yes, but attentive viewers can piece together the puzzle. Clues are scattered in plain sight, even in fleeting expressions and throwaway lines. At one point, everyone feels suspicious, which is exactly the point. Yesha is not just a person, but an idea. Anyone consumed by injustice and pushed to extremity could become Yesha.
As an antagonist, Yesha is surprisingly tragic. While Xiao Bei Ming believes in pursuing justice through light, Yesha fights darkness with more darkness. They are two sides of the same coin, shaped by pain but choosing different paths. It raises uncomfortable moral questions, especially surrounding the Haiya case. Is vengeance ever justified when the system fails?
I will admit that somewhere in the middle, between layered cases and Xiao Bei Ming’s increasingly frail poisoned state, my attention wavered. The pacing dipped. But I pushed through, and I am glad I did. The narrative regains momentum and builds toward a satisfying conclusion. The final reveal makes sense, and the drama resists the urge to overexplain everything in a tedious monologue. No excessive tropes, no random plot devices thrown in for shock value. Most threads tie back neatly, coming full circle.
The ending does lean into something more personal than I expected, when it could have stayed focused purely on Haiya. Still, it does not derail the impact. In the end, The Wanted Detective delivers a solid blend of mystery, moral complexity, teamwork, and just enough flair to keep things stylish. It may not have given me butterflies in the romance department, but it definitely kept my inner detective on high alert. Case closed.

For audiences who purely enjoy the detective/crime-solving genre.
The drama The Wanted Detective feels like a less remarkable version of Mysterious Lotus Casebook. The male lead investigates cases, gets poisoned, is skilled in martial arts, and is falsely accused.Although the production is fairly polished, it’s understandable why the drama didn’t gain much popularity in China. While both shows focus on solving cases and uncovering deeper conspiracies, Mysterious Lotus Casebook stands out because each case is independent, with its own storyline and foreshadowing that eventually tie into the final mystery. In contrast, The Wanted Detective essentially revolves around a single overarching case from beginning to end, with the smaller cases serving only to lead to the ultimate mastermind.
Another drawback lies in the chemistry between the male and female leads. Despite their supposed romantic relationship, their on-screen interaction feels weak.
One strength of the drama, especially for longtime viewers of Chinese series, is the supporting cast. Many of the roles are played by seasoned and familiar veteran actors, which elevates the overall acting quality.

A Great Mysterious Detective Drama With High Dark Vibes
The script was great in my opinion. The cases were actually mysterious and managed to keep me engaged as a viewer. The drama had a dark vibe that it maintained. The cases felt unique and actually creepy to me. Wang Xing Yue was brilliant here. This is not a romance drama, and I loved that it did not focus much on the romance. Those who might look for romance here might be really disappointed. But the relationship portrayed between the characters was natural and nice to watch. The only downside is that it really dragged a bit in terms of episode number. Towards the end, I was really impatient to know who this Yesha was. But still, he really was a formidable villain that I enjoyed watching. I thoroughly enjoyed this drama. Was this review helpful to you?
The Wanted Detective: Where Everyone Wants to Catch the Bad Guy... Eventually!
Playing Catch-UpThis period mystery drama starts strong and finishes even stronger, like a detective who finally remembers where they left their magnifying glass. The setup hooks you immediately: a brilliant detective falsely accused, on the run, returning three years later to clear his name. The ending pays off beautifully with satisfying reveals.
But here's the thing: the middle episodes get a bit draggy. It's like watching someone walk through molasses while trying to solve a murder. You're invested, but you're also checking your watch.
And my biggest pet peeve? Our heroes are always one step behind the villain. Always. It's like watching a game of tag where the bad guy has a head start, a map, and possibly rocket boots. The frustration is real, folks. The show has five main mystery arcs with lots of twists, which keeps things interesting, but sometimes you just want to yell at the screen: "He's RIGHT THERE!"
The male lead delivers a dandy yet intuitive character well, and the pacing is surprisingly tight for a Chinese period drama overall—even if it hits some speed bumps midway.
Worth watching? Absolutely. Just prepare yourself for moments where you'll be more detective than the detectives themselves.
**Rating: Solid mystery with occasional "come ON, people!" moments.**

Fast paced, exciting to the end
Zhong XueMan and Xiao BeiMing are 2 childhood friends who grow up to become constables in an Elite Constabulary Unit headed by XueMan's father. BeiMing is a star disciple, a wonderboy brimming with arrogant hubris professionally, but genuine in his affection for his betrothed XueMan. Hot on the trail of a notorious & unknown serial killer targeting court officials, an ill-fated plan blows up right on their very wedding day, causing him to fall from his lofty pedestal into a fugitive in hiding, framed & branded as the killer he was hunting. This drama is a very complex murder mystery featuring one of the most creatively gruesome modus operandi I've seen on tv (will never look at needle & thread the same again). But I didn't have too much time to dwell on that as the list of suspects, allies/foes, & general who's who is ever expanding & shifting. The story takes us through a fast paced & seemingly endless series of murders, as XueMan & BeiMing dig deeper into a history involving BeiMing's origins, uncovering an horrific incident to shake the very foundations of the kingdom. At the heart of everything is a revenge story with a seemingly fluid villain which didn't actually make much sense until toward the end when secret histories get revealed.
The only thing central & unchanging is XueMan's and Beiming's deep trust in each other that suspicion & separation can't breach. The drama nicely interweaves their relationship within the action of story without it feeling like two parallel arcs. And as their relationship is established from the beginning with their marriage, we're spared from silly & immature romance tropes cluttering up the sleuthing.
And as with all good murder mysteries, you're always left guessing until the exciting ending, with twists & surprises throughout. There are no lagging moments so you're left rather breathless, but this is one of the better shows I've seen this year.

The acting of the cast is also cool and good. I was even carried away by the very good chemistry of our main actors Wang Xingyue and Xiang Hanzhi, they are very professional in conveying it as if their feelings are very deep even though this drama is not a romance genre, but there is still a feeling of love in this drama, even though it is not much.
Besides that, I also really like some of the OSTs of this drama.
Actually, I really look forward to Wang Xingyue and Xiang Hanzhi being reunited in one project, but with the genre of a romantic drama, their chemistry will definitely explode! 🔥🔥💖
Overall this drama has a very good storyline and is cool!! 🔥🤙🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Did not expect the plot twist
The plot twist of this series really insane I try to guess each episode every time and my most suspect person is Zhuge Kongyun and unexpectedly it turn out to be the person that I never have doubt in any episode. From my point of view FL and ML don’t have much chemistry as a couple but more like a partner who work together I get that they’re growth together so they seem more like that as siblings and partner I mentioned. Everyone in production team did a great job in this series. Was this review helpful to you?

From Badass to Brain-Dead: FL Ruins The Wanted Detective
I came to this drama with expectations. WXY has a solid track record as a male lead, and I was especially excited to see the female lead again after her impressive role as Mu Xingge in Love of the Divine Tree where she was intelligent, sharp, protective, and a total badass. But here? She’s been reduced to the most brainless, irrational character I’ve seen in a while. She’s known the ML since childhood, but the moment her father dies, she jumps to the dumbest conclusion ever: blames him for murder just because he was there when it happened. That’s it. No evidence, no logic, just vibes. Then fast forward three years, they meet again and what does she do? Poisons him. Yes, poisons her own husband. Why? Because she doesn’t want him to escape. And sure, she intended to use a poison that would only block his martial arts… but.. She “accidentally” gave him a fatal poison with no antidote. Like, girl, are you hearing yourself? What kind of twisted logic is that? Poisoning the man you supposedly still care about? I’m sorry, but this FL isn’t just flawed, she’s straight-up idiotic.
Watching her alone was enough to make me want to throw the whole drama in the bin. The writing made zero sense, her actions were painfully stupid, and the fact that the ML still chased after her, begging for forgiveness for something he didn’t even do? That just made it worse. He deserves better. We all do.
This drama is an insult to intelligence. Hard pass.
**LET ME BE CLEAR: I’m not hating on the actress herself. She’s undeniably talented and has already proven her acting skills especially in LoTDT, where she nailed the role. But in The Wanted Detective? The character she plays is absolute garbage. The personality, the decisions, the logic (or complete lack of it) are just plain stupid. It’s honestly frustrating to watch someone who’s clearly capable as an actress be given such a poorly written, brain-dead role.
Great actress, trash character. Period.
