A story that does not shy away from the reality of life.

IMO this drama is perfect in every aspect. I gave it 10/10 for the amazing actors and chemistry. Gorgeous and detailed costume and beautiful set. Story line is very good and not a moment boring, fast phased and every episode filled with engaging scene and events. The story line never stuck with one villain from beginning till the end which always gets tiring and annoying. But story progressed beautiful in every stage and plot.
I find myself very difficult to stop and go back to my reality. let's not forget the heart capturing OST. I cried, bawled, and smitten and heart warmed.
And of course, the martial art, was amazing and beautifully choreographed. What impressed me the most was Li Qin's agility and badass yet graceful movement. you can just tell if the actor is actually have the stance of martial art by their swinging of weapon and movement, without much help if camera tricks to cover the flaws. I love women with martial art!
Thank you Fated Hearts for the gift of a beautiful drama, very attractive cast, especially main leads, and very good production. I am already a huge fan of the beautiful Li Qin, and I found my new love for Chen Zhe Yuan. They both embodied their roles perfectly and you can't help but just fell in love with them. Despite their age gap, they both looked and fit together perfectly. Chemistry between them is off the chart. Please have them together again in other dramas.

Fated Hearts: a drama that will make you feel everything. Your next obsession!

Without a doubt, it ranks as one of the best Chinese dramas of the year, a gem that leaves a deep impression on the viewer.

Impeccable Acting (10/10): The cast is simply sublime. Each actor not only embodies their character, but also gives them a depth and layers that are essential to the story. They deserve every point of that 10. The "enemies to lovers" plot is executed to perfection. The transition from visceral hatred to passionate love is believable, painful, and extremely satisfying. Every glance, every touch, and every tension-filled word is pure gold. The OST is not just an accompaniment; it is another character. The songs accentuate each scene, heightening the emotions to the limit. It adds a magical and memorable touch to the whole drama.

Complex and Human Characters: This is, perhaps, its greatest success. The characters in "Fated Hearts" are incredibly human, full of light and shade. One moment you love them for their vulnerability, the next you hate them for their selfish decisions or terrible mistakes, and then, almost without realizing it, you come to understand why they act the way they do. This moral ambiguity makes them fascinating and real.

The costumes and setting are a visual delight, adding another layer of immersion to the story.

Despite its greatness, there is one aspect that prevents it from receiving a perfect score: the ending. After such an intense and twist-filled journey, the dénouement feels a little weak and rushed. It doesn't ruin the overall experience, but it does leave you feeling that such a powerful story deserved a conclusion to match.

badass drama i've watched so far

the plot is all about revenge, mostly for claiming the throne, but it’s executed so clean. fast paced, no dragging. everything the characters do actually makes sense there’s always a reason behind their actions. it really hits you with how betrayal feels, especially when it comes from your own family, siblings, or even the person you love.

the main role is insanely OP from start to end, and even the support role carry their own responsibilities instead of just existing.
the romance is minim but powerful. feng suige, i swear, has enemies everywhere and every single one of them is dangerous literally the definition of a fearless first prince.
honestly, i’m still not over xia jingyan’s death, and the fact that zuo ye turned into a villain here is just criminal.

Flawed but entertaining

There is potential in the story but somehow the interpretation, or execution, falls short. Whether it is the action parts, the romance parts or the subterfuge, the script is very stilted. The story progresses predictably. The sets feels more gaudy than grand. The setting is ancient China but the story line wouldn't be amiss for 2026. There is the usual court intrigues and maneuvering but these seem more corporate than imperial.

There is much emotional overlays but the results are just superficiality. Everyone cries but the sadness is not evident. Its more melodramatic than drama. There's love and romance scripted but there's no emotional connect. Kissing just meant a meeting of lips. There is much on brotherhood bonds but the interactions feels more like acquaintances.

In the end, it seems all about the sins of the elders being suffered by the children.

This is probably the most emotionless, passionless and stilted drama to date. The script also gets more incredulous, especially the miraculous rejuvenation. The miracles of healing is somewhat incredulous. Even by C Drama standards.

The MLs that is more plasticized than the FL. Tyrant emperor? More like plastic bully. the mothers were more tyrannical than the children. The robes also seem more revealing for males than females.

Li Qin as FYH was the most memorable act. Her graceful demeanor, lithely movements and unruffled calm carried her role better than the cry baby MLs.

There is much action and lots of twists, small and big, but overall the story line was somewhat detached and not as engaging. However there is enough to be entertained.

villain arc is what carried this drama

One of the best writings I have seen so far in 2025 that has consideration for villains - it's not lame nor cliche, but plot armor may have been done too much.

Truth to be told, the villains' story is what made this drama really good. Unlike the other "they are just bad cause they are villains, they want power." Make this one an exclusion of that, cause the villains' reasons for being bad was more than the simple reason of power - it was for the sake of family. I don't see many dramas that honestly show even, as a full, of how villains became real evil, but when 'father protecting his son' arc started, I was as shocked as Sui Ge getting arrowed by Yi Xiao.

Father Zhong, "In my life, how many battles have Yao and I fought for you and your father's kingdom? I've done far more for Susha than you ever have. In my life, I have never sought fame or power. All I wanted was to live peacefully with my children and grandchildren."

Love it ♥️

My best actor Chen Zheyuan he looking awesome. Everyone actually was amazing. La trama, las actuaciones, la historia muy real que se vive a diario, como la tradición de las personas mas cercanas, en las que uno confia más como la familia o la que uno cree que lo es. La actuación de Zheyuan fue espectacular con ese toque de malvado que se veia super bello.

A M A Z I N G P E R F E C T I O N

I just have to share my thoughts on this drama, because it brought me sooo many emotions, that I really feel the need to express it in some way!

It started with the enemies-to-lovers and it was done / executed perfectly! So much so that for the first 2 episodes I was really believed the MLs would kill each other at any moment, and even if they didn't I was really worried and curious at the same time how they will turn the story 360° around and still make their affection and love to one another believable... Well they did... the story was logical and very well paced, and that goes not only for the MLs' love-journey but for the WHOLE show.
Every character had their reasons, had logic to every step and every decision they took. Be it good or evil, I really couldn't bring myself to judge none of them, because I could see their journey and how they become what they are. Each and every character stayed true to themselves till the very end!
The whole production was just a m a z i n g!
What made this drama different for me is that it had me literally vocally react to almost every scene!
I was: amazed, shocked, amused, startled, AMAZED....
I noticed and appreciated the script from the start. There were lines and scenes that really impressed me for their originallity.
There were so many small but impactful details that made me more and more immersed in the story.
The way that every scene was shot by the production and expressed by all the actors was pure c i n e m a .
The combination: the plot + the script + the acting + the OST = 💯
The result of all of this combined was just P E R F E C T I O N

Even if you don't like imperial family and court drama, you must watch

I came here mainly to just swoon over this drama. I'll start from Chen Zheyuan, he's so charming, so pretty that it is very distracting when you watch anything he's in, he absolutely has the Aura™ of the character he's portraying. His acting is so incredible, he can be as cold as a stone and then emotional, heartbroken, you can see love and hatred in his eyes he's oh so amazing. I've seen Li Qin only in one drama so far, she's the perfect cast for Fu Yixiao, looks gentle but can absolutely kick ass. This drama is written so exceptionally well, the first episode is so dynamic, it reeled me in so hard and this place is kept throughout the entire drama. No weak spots, no dragging of the the story, just pure dynamic and drama. I personally don't really like imperial family and court drama but if it's written like this, boy, I'm so in. I am always a sucker for the lead character's side kicks and trusted men (Lu Ke, Hound, Yun brothers, Ning Fei have my heart and of course doctor Ling). Even the evil characters in this drama are written so well, you hate them so much you love them. Princess Xiyang is not entirely evil, I hated her naive spolied kid character so much but her character developed and I ended up loving her. I loved the emperor of Jinxiu, prime minister Zhong, Murong Yao (I love Zuo Ye in everything I've seen with him), the emperor of Susha. Seriously, top tier character and storyline writing. I especially love that we basically had two stories (about Feng Suige and then about Feng Xiyang) and both had equal screen time, both were finished, both were finished, both had character development. I can definitely see myself rewatching this for the story and characters and especially actors. If you're still hesitating to watch, don't and go watch, it's so worth it.

A must-watch Drama with strong storytelling, fast pacing and brilliant acting.

Fated Hearts is a beautifully crafted drama. The story is engaging and emotionally rich and what stands out the most are the powerful performances by the lead actors.

Li Qin is outstanding as Fu Yi Xiao, convincingly bringing to life a strong and capable female general. Whether in battle scenes or emotional moments, Li Qin’s acting feels natural and grounded, fully capturing the spirit of a woman shaped by loyalty, courage and duty.

Chen Zhe Yuan delivers an exceptional portrayal of Feng Sui Ge, perfectly embodying the First Prince, calm, intelligent and dignified on the surface, yet deeply emotional beneath his restraint. His subtle expressions, controlled body language and expressive eyes add remarkable depth to the character, making Feng Sui Ge both compelling and unforgettable.

I don’t usually focus much on romance in dramas, so I especially appreciated the heartfelt and sincere chemistry between the leads, which naturally elevates the emotional impact of the story. Combined with strong storytelling, beautiful cinematography and a fitting soundtrack, Fated Hearts proves that excellent acting and well-written characters can truly carry a drama.
It is a rewarding watch and comes highly recommended.

Better than many

This review is mostly for my own personal tastes. If you are curious, you can look over the GOOD list for some highlights, but the BAD list is very much focused on what doesn't suit *my personal* tastes, rather than actually being bad.

The high level overview is that this is a really well done show, but I personally am not a big fan of intrigue/politics/power dynamics and those things are very much the center of this drama. For me, the romance is not well done and the slice of life moments are weak, which means I probably won't finish it.

THE GOOD:

The FL absolutely kills in this. If she was more centered in this drama, I would have been in love with it.

The cinematography is very strong. Many things are done very well, especially the action. And as a bonus, it seems like they were willing to be a bit artistic and add some personal style, so things are not just "standard" the way every other drama directs/edits things. Love to see productions that are innovating.

The action is very well done. Especially the FL, has got to be the most convincing action sequences I've ever seen from an FL. As well as being just dynamic and engaging choreography/camerawork. For a taste of that, you can simply watch the first 10 minutes. It is immediately intense and captivating. The rest of the show doesn't quite get that intense again, but still some cool scenes.

The costuming is gorgeous. Bold colors and elaborate detailing are all a joy to look at. Each character gets distinct and thought out color palettes in their wardrobes, just A+.

Some excellent supporting actors. Especially the doctor and the ML's right-hand man. I hope they are both being noticed, because the whole time I am thinking they should be leading actors, they are that vibrant.

THE BAD:

For me, it is just really frustrating to keep seeing the same "I'm bad and actively cruel to the FL" Beauty and the Beast tropes, especially when they are not well supported with motivations.

That dynamic is doubled down with another tired amnesia trope. So in addition to abusive behaviors we will get endless gaslighting. Just exhausting writing choices.

It is such a common plot at this point that there must be an audience that likes this, but just how long do you have to watch a show for anyone's motivations to be clear? 10eps 20eps? It is way too long that you ask me to "just sit through it" for some distant payoff, that in my experience is rarely actually that profound. Maybe this one is different, but I will probably never get far enough to find out.

Did I mention unnecessary abuse and gaslighting? Sure, well, lets add to that pile that the "strong FL" (Who the FL portrays very well) is just continuously declawed by the writing. So far she is just a victim over and over again, and even when she does have a heroic moment, she will still fail at the last moment so the ML can swoop in and take all the glory. Just very heavy-handed heteronormative writing, despite centering on "women can do anything even be a general". If you want to write a damsel story, just write a damsel? Setting up the FL as a strong and independent person and literally cutting her ability to fight and making her a "happy prisoner" is actually infuriating.

Okay that is probably enough to remind me of my general feelings, should I ever try to come back to watch more of this. There is also just a lot of weak writing and convenient writing (forced misunderstandings, characters doing things for no reason other than to cycle back to another pass of "oh he's a bad boy, but not REALLY", etc) But I don't think I need to go through all of that. Just stuff that is annoying if you aren't into the specific sub-genre.

Maybe I will be back, because the FL is really cool and I am still a bit hopeful that the doctor gets a more detailed arc. But probably not, unless I want something in the background that I can ignore 85% of.

Updated Review: My apologies to Li Qin.

One of my favorite actresses, Li Qin, shines as the female lead, delivering a performance filled with strength, vulnerability, and emotional depth. The male lead, Chen Zhe Yuan, complements her perfectly — their chemistry and shared storyline were excellent from start to finish.

The main plot was engaging and well-paced, with one of my favorite elements being the amnesia arc. That storyline added suspense, emotional tension, and plenty of action, keeping the drama interesting and layered rather than predictable.

One aspect I did not enjoy — and this is important to mention — was the mental and emotional abuse portrayed toward one of the secondary female characters (not Li Qin’s character). Her father, the emperor, arranged her marriage to unite two provinces, only for her husband (not Chen Zhe Yuan’s character) to emotionally neglect and ignore her. That situation became a painful and unnecessary mess, and while historically such dynamics existed, it was difficult to watch.

That said, the main lead’s storyline more than carried the drama. The production quality was outstanding — the sets, costumes, and background music were all perfectly suited to the historical period and added richness and authenticity to the story.

Overall, Fated Hearts is a compelling historical drama with strong performances, emotional depth, and beautiful production values. Despite one troubling subplot, the central story and lead actors made this a memorable and highly enjoyable watch.

NOTE: I had Bai Lu on my mind being upset about Mo Li not being shown until April.

A Gem of A Drama – No Clichés, No Nonsense

You can even binge-watch Fated Hearts, just like I did and I fell in love.
The characters are meticulously portrayed through awe-strucking acting and story writing. The characters are complex, ever evolving, humane, and you can understand the motives for their actions, that is something I haven't seen in many dramas.
The storyline was fantastic and it really stepped past those annoying clichés.

In short. Watch for the Characters, their growth, their motives and the NO-Nonesense Storyline.

One critic if I must say, is that the side couple/romance, including the ML's younger sister, FL's ex-fiancé, and the emperor of that empire should have not been given the amount of screen time it was given. It was quite insignificant and didn't add much to the whole storyline otherwise. But, you can definitely watch those scenes as a standalone, because it definitely once again portrays human natures, our motives, ambitions, experiences and how they shape us beautifully.
And one last critic, the drama should have had 2 more episodes, for a better, paced closure.

But, overall, it was mesmerizing, emotional and fascinating!
