One of my most anticipated dramas that fell flat
I was very excited for this since last year (if my pfp of Meng Ziyi as FL I've had since making this acc didn't make that clear enough) but going in only the first 10 episodes managed to hold my attention but I was a little disappointed with the rest. The writing felt weak and most characters didn't make much sense to me :(Before I rant, let me praise the cinematography first. I really liked a lot of the camera shots and the color grading. It was very pleasing to the eye with the warm, autumn-like feel in many scenes.
I also loved Fan Shuaiqi's character (fun fact: my newly made tumblr acc went viral cuz of her, seems like I ain't the only one who loves her 👅👅) and I really enjoyed Cui Jinbai and Bu Shilan's love story development, although I do have to admit I nearly cringed when they finally got together because this drama was full of cliché moments. I also loved Xihe's and Bu Shilan's sisterhood, one of my fav things in this drama probably. Another cp I found really interesting was the 4th Prince and Li Yanhui. And tbh I feel like all these side couple had more potential than the main one, but they also fell short because of the incohesive plot and the number of episodes.
Onto the writing: very weak imo and there were just way too many plotholes. Like the drama introduced interesting ideas but never managed to flesh them out properly and it became more frustrating over time...
For one, the rebirth subplot: In the very 1st episode we know that Gu Qingzhi is reborn as Shen Xihe, but first of all we barely get any of her backstory. The FL also seems to have all the information she needs ready from the start. Like she transmigrated into another body, yet she somehow already knows exactly what to do even though she shouldn't have the OG Shen Xihe's memories. It was never really explained.
Another thing that didn't make sense (although entertaining) was how not only the Crown Prince fell head over heels for her, after the only thing that happened between them was him giving her her the Immortal Vine, but also almost every other prince. Didn't get how she had them all wrapped around her finger when they barely interacted and she kept rejecting their advances lmao.
A lot of the story and many antagonists also felt like they only existed to make the FL look smarter rather than actually making sense. She was way too perfect and the story gave her way too much agency. She was always several steps ahead of everyone else's plans and I know we have these typa FLs in lots of dramas but this one, I just found unbelievable. (Even the way she outsmarted Consort Rong felt too convenient??)
I also would've appreciated it more if the villains had more explained motivations. Instead their backstories are dumped on us in the end like the writers expected us to be shocked, but it didn't hit the way it was supposed to. That's why I also didn't really feel anything during the supposedly "emotional" moments.

Another thing that bothered me is the ML's poisoning. The story starts by making us think this investigation is gonna be an important subplot, but we barely get anything until the last few episodes. Then suddenly we find out who the real culprit is, but it's super underwhelming. Instead of weaving this mystery throughout the drama, they just drop the reveal at the end like a bomb but still, the payoff didn't hit smh... Also, wdym he resurrected from the dead with zero explanation???
Acting-wise it wasn't the best but not the worst either. I really like Meng Ziyi but the only drama where I found her acting natural was Blossom (not sure if it's cuz I'm biased toward that drama tho lol) but that's why I felt the chemistry between the leads was lacking here.
Whole thing just ended up feeling like your average historical idol drama. We had the reborn FL scheming her way through the Inner Court, tons of fanservice, and then as always the rebels stage a coup at the end just to lose. Ig the only thing I found realistic abt it was the 5th Prince doing all this to pave the way for the FL. He was one of the best writtten characters, with his actions being driven by his possessive obsession with his late wife, which ACTUALLY made sense, but still felt way too convenient, like the writers didn't have anymore time to explain, so that was the end of it (...he was crazy tho ngl)
7/10 tho since it was interesting enough to keep watching but I just kept shrugging and sighing along the way 🗿
Anyway the OST delivered as always. Idk if it's because I had been anticipating this drama for so long that it ended up feeling more underwhelming than it would've but these are just my opinions, so take them with a grain of salt :D

The Best Chinese Drama of 2026 ⭐?
This is my first time reviewing a C-drama, and all I can say is… it’s perfect!The story, the acting, the writing, the soundtrack everything is just so good. I never wanted it to end. This drama gave me something to look forward to every day, and it made me so happy.
The female lead is one of the best characters I’ve ever seen. She’s smart, knows her worth, and proves that she doesn’t need a man or a relationship to be complete. She’s become my role model.
The male lead is amazing too. He can beat anyone, but when it comes to the female lead, he’s just a loser in love and it’s the cutest thing ever.
Thank you for creating such an incredible drama. ❤️

Beautifully Written, Brilliantly Acted, Perfectly Executed
Blossoms of Power is one of the best Chinese dramas I’ve watched this year. The story keeps getting better with every episode, and the pacing never feels boring. The acting is excellent. especially the leads, whose chemistry feels natural and emotional. Every character has depth, making it easy to become invested in their journey.The cinematography, costumes, and soundtrack are all beautifully done, giving the drama a grand yet emotional atmosphere. What I appreciate most is that the plot doesn’t rely on unnecessary clichés or filler; every episode moves the story forward.
If you’re looking for a historical drama with strong performances, beautiful visuals, emotional moments, and a compelling storyline, Blossoms of Power is absolutely worth watching.

MORE TWISTS AND TURNS THAN A BAG OF PRETZELS...
BLOSSOMS OF POWER - 8 starsThis drama keeps up the pace and intensity to the very end.
Directed by someone with a sure hand and a clear vision. Interpreted by some high-wattage actors.
The FL is a no-nonsense powerhouse who not only knows what she wants–but what she doesn’t want--in a husband. She’s willing to engage in mayhem and murder if necessary, but she can also be kind and generous.
Her goal is to ferret out the true motives of the many suspicious characters surrounding her, including the nine princes vying for her hand–well, some of them are vying, others not so much. She sweeps away every gossamer wisp of duplicity that floats across her path.
I find it a little annoying that EVERY man who sees the FL immediately falls in love with her–there are other attractive women around–some of them with a lot more verve and animation.

Except Xiao Huayong, the ML, DID UTTER THIS VERY SENTENCE in Episode 10. This man knows what women want to hear. But does he mean it?

At first I thought that the ML was bad news, a manipulative, unscrupulous villain. And I thought that the poor FL was headed for a fall.
Well, he IS manipulative. But she’s much worse.
Could you marry someone who (at first) seems to have no capacity for love? Someone who doesn’t think twice about dropping a fellow human being into a pit of tigers? Someone who’s only marrying you because you’ll be dead in a year–and out of her hair forever? That’s our FL in Episode 19.
Also, why is this woman accorded so much respect and deference? What has she done to earn any of it? She’s beautiful. And she’s got a great sniffer. That’s about it.
Episode 25 --Our FL hurries someone off to the executioner–you can hear the screams in the background while she talks calmly with someone else. But the victim is just a maid–so not to worry, folks.
My 21st century moral compass makes it hard for me to deal with such random cruelty and still have any affection for this woman--even though she's beginning to soften. She offends my humanity. The crown prince, on the other hand, is easy to like–warm, kind, and lovable. I’ll keep watching to see what happens to him.
Special kudos to Lai Weiming, who played Xiao Changying, the passionate, unpredictable ninth prince--a man torn by obsessive love and erratic, intense hatred. He grabbed my attention whenever he appeared on screen--I never knew what he was going to do. A fascinating character played with consummate skill by a marvelous actor.
NOTE: Ending – not OK to have one of the two leads go missing for 4 episodes then brought back with no logical explanation for either the disappearance nor the return. Writers–what were you thinking?

Blossom of POWER? It is.
So basically this drama is only about Blossoming of power. It's got its flaws.It visually pleasing.
The osts are amazing.
BUT, The story was a bit off. I had lot of hopes for this drama. And I was pretty happy with how it started but then it went downhill mid way.... and I wish the story was stronger. The twists were good but it wasn't politically strong.
Overall fine I guess.
But for me.... the ending was sweet but i'm sorry that didn't make sense. The ending should have been stronger. Well, I know it's based on the novel... but there should be some substance for him to just come back. And I think it was bit abrupt. Everything just happened, everyone just dies, the kid comes, becomes the king and then Crown prince appears and it ends with the special episode which was kinda cute to watch but again it his whole arrival part didn't make sense.
AND AGAIN THE OSTS WERE SOOO BEAUTIFUL. I LOVED THE OSTS ESPECIALLY THE ONE SUNG BY ZHOU SHEN AND THE OTHER ONE SUNG BY ZHANG
So yea, overall an 8 or an 8.5

It was fun watching the crown prince
I really enjoyed this show. From the crown prince's coughing to the fight scenes to his shameless flirting. I normally don't like it when the male lead is a lover boy but i couldn't help but get invested in his character. Xihe started out could and i enjoyed her viciousness when dealing with people and loved her more when she fell in love. I loved the moments where the brothers showed they cared for another. I would definitely watch again but skip all the episodes prince xin isbon screen from ep 32 to 36. Jeremy played his role well.Was this review helpful to you?
I really loved the ml's character and the love he has for fml.
I really admired the fml's character, very intelligent and head-strong but they could have done more with her character than what was presented, especially towards the end....they could have focused more on her and let go of the 5th prince's character/storyline(respectfully he should have been killed off earlier).
The pacing in the beginning was really good, not too politics heavy nor too much romance, it was balanced really well. But in the last few episodes, some plot points could have been moved up a few episodes as not to include everything at the end.
(I've heard that they stayed true to the novel, I can understand as to why somethings were excuted as is.)
Very happy they also gave us a special episode.
Overall: It was an great watch.

Greenest Shameless ML ??
I felt like I laughed at almost all episodes (shallow sense of humor), then cried at that one episode 🥴Male Lead:
First of all, I think this is the first time I watched a really sick ML who's not pretending to be one to hide his true strength. Most dramas with this kind of genre have either the overused strong-cunning-cold-but warm on the inside MLs. That's why I really liked He Yu's character here. The shamelessness🤣 the way he used his sick body to get away with things, the cringe-sweet words coming out from his mouth in almost every episode🤣 but at the same time like all MLs we know, he's cunning and will do anything to protect his lady. And the fact that he doesn't hide his feelings and emotions from others.
Female Lead:
MZY really does have a cold resting face😅 was actually surprised that I cried when I saw her cry on ep 32😅 anyways I don't have many to say about her character.
2nd Couple:
Won't lie, they were the reason I continued to watch the 1st arc. The first time BSL was introduced I was like is that a male? But the voice sound female🤔🤣 anyways I love this couple. Although I would have loved it more if they included those little bits of spoiler I read about the novel.
Plot:
Not that strong.
Anyways, they should really add the comedy in the tags🤣 cuz this has a solid humor in it. Laughed in this more than I did in HDY and that has comedy tag in it.

A great drama with a few problems.
I have a lot to say about this one.To be clear, generally, I think it's a good drama that really is worth the watch. The story is compelling, the characters are interesting, the chemistry is good, and the pacing wasn't bad either.
The story starts with Gu Qing Zhi, the eldest daughter of the Gu clan, as she kills herself. She then somehow merges souls or overtakes the body (idk; they never made it clear what even happened) of Shen Xi He, the Commandery Princess. The previously gentle, kind, and delicate Princess transforms into a ruthless, fierce, and strong woman overnight, and literally no one, NO ONE, questions it. They're like, 'oh ok whatever'.
The Crown Prince is portrayed as this frail, sick, and weak poisoned prince with a short lifespan. But surprise surprise, he is actually really strong and agile, completely mastering martial arts, and really smart, the big brains behind everything. He saves the Princess from drowning, falls in love with her, and becomes the most devoted, dramatic, delulu fictional man I have ever seen.
The Princess has to choose a husband between all the princes, 3 of whom are completely in love with her—for some reason. This part was really dragged out; my girl refused to CHOOSE, like come on, you have like 3 fine shyts pursuing you, one of whom is literally just the EMBODIMENT of green flag. However, when she does eventually choose the Crown Prince, it gets significantly better.
I really did like both characters a lot. Xi He is a headstrong woman who doesn't fear anyone. The Crown Prince is a downbad diva, but also really smart. Both are calculating and always 10 steps ahead of their opposition (perfect for my delicate heart), so it's never a matter of IF they can outsmart them, but more so a question of what masterplan they have to knock everyone out.
The 2nd couple has got to be one of the best parts of the show. It's a shame they got so little screen time. I was squealing every time they showed up on screen.
The villains of the show were all really well done, I just wished that the 2nd ML wasnt part of them, I really hoped they would finally make him let go of his obsession, but NO, this is a cdrama and no one can healthily deal with regection (I am joking, the other guy who was in love with her did let go, which I loved)
My biggest issue with this drama was the ending, which felt very incomplete and riddled with unanswered questions. The Crown Prince dies, and I cried, truly. They then spent literally the next 4 episodes developing what happened after and that whole plot, which I really liked; it was flushed out well and was interesting. The real problem is when, like 5 years later, PLOT TWIST, the Prince ISN'T dead and was like stowed away somewhere (idk) and somehow magically recovered from the poison which was uncurable the WHOLE show; he suddenly didn't care WHO poisoned him (also a big part of the show), is really old with grey hair for some reason, and what? Xi He knew the whole time????
There was so much left unanswered: How did he fake his death? Where did he go? How did he cure himself? Is he the emperor now? Why is the physician also suddenly really old? What were the people's reactions when the dead Crown Prince suddenly comes back to life??
Although I was heartbroken when he died, I had come to accept it. It worked for the story. It made sense; it tied up most of the loose threads. But to cater to the happy ending, they destroyed a perfectly good ending, instead introducing something completely useless, so instead of inducing any lingering feeling after watching the drama, all I felt was confusion. I'm not mad he's back; I just think the story didn't need it, at least at that point, or in that specific way.
I understand that the novel probably answers these questions, but I wasn't here for a novel adaptation; I was here for a drama, so I expect an ending that makes sense, and I expect the drama to deliver it, not a book I do not want to read.
TL; DR
A good drama, with a compelling story and great characters. It only had some logic and ending problems; otherwise, it was a satisfying watch.

He Yu kept me engaged!!

* Stunning Production Design: Visually, the drama is a treat. The outfits are meticulously designed, high-quality, and perfectly match the characters' regal yet calculating personalities.
* The Power of Manufactured Evidence: One of the show's most profound elements is how it explores trust. It vividly demonstrates how what we instinctively know to be true in life can be brutally challenged by fabricated proof.
* Memories Defeating the Lies: This is captured perfectly in the standout scene where the Crown Prince is finally released by the 4th Prince and sees his father. The brilliant integration of his childhood memories instantly solidifies his intrinsic view of who his dad has been all along. It proves that a deep, foundational bond can ultimately withstand years of carefully orchestrated, malicious deceit.
* The Tragedy of Doubt: This theme is mirrored heartbreakingly with Prince Xin and the Crown Princess, showing how easily human relationships can be weaponised when masterfully planted lies make us doubt our own lifelong memories of a person's character.
⚠️ The Low Points (The Struggles)
* Frustrating Romantic Pacing: The show suffers from a massive pacing imbalance between its couples. While the side couples move incredibly fast and get down to business quickly, the main leads are on an agonizingly slow-burn trajectory.
* The Breakthrough Fell Flat: Because the show stubbornly stalls their romantic progression for 26 episodes, the actual payoff loses its spark. By the time the main leads finally share their big romantic breakthrough in Episode 27, the anticipation has been dragged out for so long that the moment unfortunately feels a bit anti-climactic and flat.
* Soul-Swap Plot Holes: The fantasy mechanics of the soul-swap/identity shift are frustratingly vague. The show expects the audience to accept major supernatural shifts without fully explaining the rules, logic, or long-term consequences of how it works, leaving noticeable gaps in the plot.
* The "Almost Dying" Trope Dragged Out: The Crown Prince’s frail health is used as a narrative crutch for way too long. The loop of him constantly being on the verge of death feels like it’s dragged out to manufacture artificial tension, mirroring how the show stalls the central romance.
How come the king, and crown prince with all thier resources never managed to heal him but somehow fake death and comes back healed? He hardly aged while his physician seemed to age so much.

Did not sign up for fantasy
I didn't like the fantasy part of the story one bit.Other girl completely gone and new girl is here.
What? Huh? Yeah didn't like that at all.
Why did I stay regardless of the fantasy that I did not like? Well He Yu of course. The way he stares it was hard to drop this even though the story was ridiculous.
FL wanted to fall in love. Okay gotcha.
ML decides to get her to love him. Which took forever. Her reason for marrying was to marry someone she loves. How can she when she was so cold for long. Whatever I guess.. I overlooked it and kept watching.
The moment fl finally says her feelings I already stopped caring and was just watching to just watch.
As the story kept going the annoying 2ml just couldn't get why fl didn't want him. His story dragged until the end. Very tiring that I fell asleep and woke up on the last episode.
The acting really wasn't that great emotionally.
Don't know maybe because I already watched the best crying scenes recently in another drama... that these crying scenes on this drama didn't impress me. Just staring at my screen emotionless while the actors cried or looked sad. Felt nothing for these characters what a shame.
Another long drama that dragged on!
I can finally say I completed.

Brilliant ( what a masterpiece), number 2 best drama of the year.
I'm so impressed, the writer knew exactly what we wanted this 2026. The fl is powerful, she deals with people mercilessly that messes with her, she's no damsel in destres. The ml gives a poor sick front but behind the scenes he's powerful and know martial arts. The ml is a green forest. He saves the princess all the time but he doesn't make it known to her that he's the one doing all these things for her because he doesn't want her to fall in love with him out of gratitude. Once he falls for her he decides to actually not pursue her anymore because of he's sickness he doesn't have a long time to live so he doesn't want her to be lonely. The ml is so selfless and so kind. This drama is so good and a must watch. The romance is so gentle, I love how their kisses are gentle. The consumation of the marriage was normal, not the usual where the ml is drugged or drunk. No they were both sober.The ending was perfect, even if they decided to give us a happy ending instead of a sad one. It ended perfectly, people are going on on about how they didn't explain the ml return in the end it wasn't necessary, the fl probably knew that he had gone to recuperate.
The ost is good, haven't heard such a good ost since eternal love
Well done to the cast and everyone for this brilliant drama.
