Blossoms of Power

Blossoms of Power is one of those dramas that understands the value of taking its time. It never feels rushed, allowing its political intrigue, character relationships, and shifting alliances to develop naturally instead of sprinting from one plot twist to the next. The result is an engaging, consistently entertaining watch that kept me invested from beginning to end, even if I do think it overstayed its welcome by about six episodes. A tighter edit would've made an already strong drama even better.

The cast delivers across the board, with Meng Ziyi giving one of her most mature performances to date. But it's supporting characters whom bring something memorable to the table. And then there's He Yu, who completely steals every scene he's in. His character is an adorable scheming, cheeky little bastard. The kind of morally flexible menace that becomes impossible not to love. He Yu plays him with just the right balance of charm, mischief, and vulnerability, making him one of the drama's biggest highlights.

My biggest complaint has nothing to do with the story itself, but with how it's presented to viewers. The final scene drops a major development with no explanation. No resolution. Just confusion. As it turns out, all the answers are tucked away in a 12 minutes epilogue. It's an incredibly frustrating decision that undermines an otherwise satisfying ending.

Despite that baffling choice, Blossoms of Power delivers exactly what I want from a political historical drama: compelling performances, clever scheming, characters worth rooting for (or against), and enough emotional payoff to keep me hooked for dozens of episodes.

BoP was better than I thought

This drama had me coming back for more. He held my attention to the end. The storyline was reformulated but still good. There were so many intertwined stories that came together at the end.

I enjoyed BOP mainly due to He Yu, the ML who was also in "Speed and Love" with Easter Yu. His portrayal of a weak, frail prince due to being poisoned at the age of 4, then transforming into the mysterious hero with top notch fighting skills was thrilling to watch. You can't help but fall in love with him in this role. Another great performance under his belt.

I 'm not a fan of Meng Ziyi, and she did not disappoint. She continued with her same stoic, one-dimensional character just like in "The Untamed" and the other drama she stars in. She needs to be more versatile in her acting. Her love scenes were one of the worse that I have ever seen. Her kisses are like a mannequin, no movement or passion. The ML had to do all the work she just stood there with her head tilted, lips frozen and no emotion. It was like watching someone pour tea.

On a positive note, I have to hand it to Meng in her husband's death scene she really delivered, that had me bawling. The other touching scene was the ML's bodyguard, when he receives the box with the handkerchief. Very touching. Xiao Chang Qing / Prince Xin 5 who knew she carried his dead wife's spirit really played his role as a broken, possessive, obsessed man that did the ultimate sacrifice for her.

There were a lot of male eye candy. like Lai Wei Ming who starred in "Shine on me" in a supporting role. He was also the jilted love interested to the FL. He played that same role in BoP. They should cast him as the lead more; he has the depth and skills to carry it off.

I was so happy they added Special episode 37. I just wished they would have explained how the ML got out of the coffin and why his physician looked like he had one foot in the grave after his 4yr treatment.

Almost perfect, just a couple of annoying flaws. Definitely worth watching.

Fun, classic period-c-drama. Features a very strong female lead performance by Zoey Meng. ML (played by He Yu)is also just as capable so isn't diminished by the FL in any way. He's just, unfortunately, hindered by poison through nearly all the story., which is frustrating because you can feel that holding him back from his full potential The romance-factor is important but develops slowly as, while ML is absolutely smitten by the FL from the moment he sees her and has his heart locked on her with laser precision that never wavers, the FL starts out the story having 'survived' pretty heavy trauma (a forced loveless marriage, the extermination of her entire family, driven to suicide in order to get revenge before being reincarnated within the body of a woman who was, herself, just murdered! So she is quite understandably extremely guarded emotionally. She has her shields up at maximum constantly and so it takes a looooong time before she has finally healed enough from her trauma to let them down and allow the ML to touch her heart. Her apparent coldness turns some fans off but just keep her history in perspective and be patient. Once she finally falls for him, she falls hard so it's all worth it. The only real negative in this show (other than some occasional clumsy edits and frequent reliance on 'off screen' events getting added to the narrative only by talking about them, is the way it handled the Prince Xin character. Xin's character is basically the all-too-familiar 'psychopathic-obsessive-unrequitted love interest' drama trope. Played brilliantly and creepily by Jeremy Xu. This character, like in too many c-dramas, is given too much screen time, beyond what is needed for the storyline, Very popular in a lot of c-dramas to try to mislead the audience into having sympathy or empathy with this sort of creepy based on 'sad backstory'. And this show does too much of that as well. Fine. We just have to accept he's a psycho and endure all his creepy weirdness and eventually this builds up to him doing awful psycho things that the FL needs to overcome. Where it gets weird though is in the end, the show decides to tuck in a one-on-one conversation between the Xin character and the FL, Xi He, where he explains that he did all these bad rebellious things just so she would gain legitimacy through stopping him. So with this revelation, the show gets to portray Xin to the audience as just a misunderstood 'good guy'. A martyr, in fact. But the fact is, to the larger plot, if he was simply a psychopath who rebelled, as we thought anyway, the FL still would have been legitimized because she stopped him. In other words, this bizarre 'reveal' at the end made absolutely ZERO difference to the plot. And this 'twist' doesn't exist in the storyline anywhere outside of that private conversation and then a brief mention later between Xi He and Xin's brother. So it just feels weird and contrived and pointless. The whole conversation scene was totally bizarre - she had NO reason to grant that conversation to him and ultimately just became some 10 minutes of wasted screen time. If they simply left him as a psychopath who rebelled, then the entire rest of the story remains the same. That screen time could have been put to better use on maybe building more interesting foreshadowing of Hua Yong's fate. Make it so that a lot of viewers have a better understanding of what happens at the end without thinking it is magic.

It's really a good drama for me in 2026!

Firstly I was waiting for this drama bcoz of watched heyu in speed and love and I liked him,and he didn't disappoint me or the story either .

i really liked the yearner type male leads and he is really down bad for the fl.and he portrayed the yearner , emotional, little comedy type very well .and he is a cutie patootie.

And meng ziyi i didn't watched her any show only in reality shows ,in shows she is really a bubbly person but in drama her arrogant,cold female lead character was done really well and her styling in this drama made her even more beautiful!❤️

Iam not saying anything more story , don't want to give spoilers just little introduction,his name haoyang and crown prince who was poisoned in young age but he has good martial arts skill he will fall in love with the commandry princess shen xihe who is justiceful, beautiful and arrogant and the story goes there ,I seen some little bad reviews like this is not some more typical revenge drama more into slow burn romance .

The chemistry between leads is really good like,he fell first,he fell harder and she fell hardest type love ,this is a happy ending drama watch it it's worth and one of the best cdrama in 2026🥹🤏

A very gorgeous FAIL.

There is blame to be assigned for the various huge problems this drama has. I don't know how to assign that blame, so I won't even try this time.

I started this, and finished this for He Yu. And as far as his contribution to this drama, he did not disappoint! He looks so hottttt ---> as usual! He has never let me down. I love his vibe and his acting and his devastating mischievous stare.

Yes the 2ML and 2FL were utterly PHENOMENAL, and if the story had been about them - and written well - this drama would have been a total blockbuster.

Costumes are incredible. Production value is high. All these things, yes they were good, it's true. BUT....

Now that that's been said, it's time to rip this drama a new a**hole like it deserves.

1) Let's talk about the first thing you'll notice when you start this drama, which is that He Yu's voice isn't actually He Yu's voice. It's a dark, dramatic, and wholly DISTRACTING voice that's basically the voice actor trying to steal the show from He Yu. In fact is ANYBODY'S voice their real voice?

Maybe you can pull this sh*t with lesser known actors. But this is HE YU, we all know his voice. We're used to it by now. This is current year, you can't just bag out on the dubbing anymore, this isn't the 90's, this isn't some lo-budget-whatever.

So I had to watch the entire thing on MUTE to even stomach watching it at all. If I had to watch with sound on, I wouldn't have made it 5 minutes before dropping.

2) It's like it was written by a college educated child. The vocaublary is there, the comprehension is there, but despite this, the writing is SO CRINGE especially during confessions. I feel nothing I'm supposed to feel. I just feel cringe at the terrible dialogue. It's like... soulless, Hallmark-ey, explicit without any poetry or nuance, artless. Honestly it sounds like AI had a hand in it, but really idk.

3) Plot holes like swiss cheese, jerky strange ways of doing plot twists that are distinctly anticlimactic.

4) FL as written is insurmountably difficult to empathize with. In fact I don't empathize with her at all, even after completing the entirety of the drama. She's cold, doesn't have a past we understand and know, and is - frankly - an ingrate.

5) The FL as acted was-- yknow I want to like this actress. I really tried. But this is the last straw for me with her. She has no microexpression game. She pastes this wide-eyed look on her face, and it's weird lookin, it just is. Her emotions are not convincing. She refuses to do a proper kiss scene, she in fact straight up RUINS kiss scenes, and I was disappointed but not surprised that she ruined every kiss scene in this show, AS USUAL. She can't cry right, she can't look in love, she can't look surprised, she can't convey genuine warmth, fear, confusion, none of it. Will legit never watch anything she stars in again, there's nothing raw or vulnerable or real about her acting at all.

6) The story is BORING. There are very few actual moving parts to the plot, and many middle episodes are like "the city flooded and now the refugees need food", episodic and resolved quickly, not moving forward the main plot at all, but only diverting from it. Getting to the end was such a slog, I lost all true enthusiasm for this show by about the one third mark and everything after that was just me hoping against hope that it would redeem itself. Which it didn't.

Do not let it's pretty packaging fool you. This drama was very pretty yes... and it was soulless. The only people I'd recc this to are He Yu fans, who want to watch "literally everything he's ever been in". I don't see anyone else actually enjoying this extremely gorgeous piece of crap.

Hopeless Romantic ML Melting FL's Cold Heart

I personally felt it is pretty underrated (?) It doesn't have the most famous casting, but the acting and chemistry are on point, and both fit their roles very well. As someone who watches many C-dramas, this one kinda won my heart pretty much.

First of all, I shall advise you to only watch this if you enjoy ROMANCE stories, because 90% of it is around romance and 10% is the throne battle between the princes.

What I LOVE about this: The unusual characters of the leads, surprisingly charismatic in their own way too. The male lead is not your usual "cool guy", but rather a shameless yet selfless ML who is willing to sacrifice everything for the girl he loves. Not blindly, but by understanding what she truly wants, supporting her in achieving it, and quietly protecting her along the way. The female lead is not your usual "cute innocent lady", but rather cold-hearted and brutally transactional. Hence, the slow burn is REAL, and it gets pretty painfully touching towards the later part, which made me cry together with the female lead as well 😭 There's a lyric in one of the OSTs that goes, “How could you be this good?” — simply representing how much he has done just to make the female lead believe in love.

This is also the second time (other than The Long Ballad) that I actually LOVE the second couple as well. It's very refreshing. It's about a rigid and stern official being swayed by a woman disguised as a man, who is constantly flirty and naughty around him. The guy almost started worrying that he was gay, so it's actually very entertaining. 😂

What's IMPERFECT about this: I didn't give it a full 10 marks purely because the ending is not quite realistic and kinda made no sense, but I'm guessing maybe it's designed to please the audience. Even if this had ended with a sad ending, frankly speaking, it would still remain as beautiful as it is.

Beautiful Pieces, Broken Story

Blossoms of Power feels like a puzzle made of pieces that simply don't fit, yet are forced together to create a picture. Every individual piece is indeed beautiful, but once you step back to see the bigger picture, you would never know what image it's supposed to form. You can praise its individual parts, but on a larger scale, the whole story amounts to very little. The story is simply broken.

This drama doesn't have a good start. And, for several episodes later, this state doesn't improve. The beginning (episodes 1-2) moves too quickly to introduce us to the characters and the premise. The first half moves too slowly and offers little in the way of plot. If anything happens, it is too shallow, forced, fake, and cringey, and focused only on romance.

1# Illogical rebirth, failed character's psychology

The drama remains faithful to its original IP by using a rebirth premise, which in itself isn't a problem. What feels annoying, however, is the particular form of rebirth it adopts. A mysterious lunar phenomenon allows the soul of a deceased person (the FL) to enter the body of another deceased person in the same era. As a result, the revived FL possesses two sets of memories: those from her "previous" life (Gu) and those of the body's owner (Shen).

That immediately raises questions about the FL's present identity. Who is she now? Is FL the deceased whose soul returned and gained a second chance, the original owner of the body, or a new individual? If she is a mixture of both, does that mean she should possess a dual identity or even a split personality? Surprisingly, the drama explores none of these interesting possibilities. Instead, the writer chooses the most convenient path to create a "super" woman. The FL retains Shen's body and public identity—along with her extraordinary beauty and privileged status—while inheriting Gu's strong personality and exceptional abilities.

This amalgamation creates the most perplexing female character I've ever seen! This character enjoys the advantages without confronting the consequences that such an extraordinary premise would naturally entail. She adapts too easily. Does she not have a bit of self-awareness to recognize that she is no longer the same? Even to just understand the new body of a Shen, the new family she is in, the new problem she must face, there are no such efforts to make this believable. What makes it even stranger is that nobody around her seriously questions her transformation. Everything unfolds far too smoothly. A woman who was once gentle and timid suddenly becomes arrogant and capable of killing and offending people. This enormous behavior shift is too drastic to pass without raising suspicion. Yet the story barely acknowledges it.

If you compare this drama to Blossom (2024), I don't think it reaches the level of Blossom, even though both stories feature a form of "rebirth." In Blossom, the FL learns about her alternate life through dreams and a storybook. Although this premise is supernatural, it feels more logical to accept because the drama explores its psychological consequences. We witness her reflecting on what she has learned, struggling to make sense of it, and gradually transforming the knowledge into wisdom. It thus allows her to make better decisions, navigate the dangers, and ultimately protect the people she loves. This kind of explanation is COMPLETELY ABSENT in Blossoms of Power.

2# Negative FL and ML's characterizations and development

After watching more episodes, it is hard for me to believe that the FL and ML are the story's protagonists. In my eyes, they act more like villains. They shared similar Machiavellian traits: manipulative/calculative and ruthless in endorsing their own interests. ML and FL wear too thick personas themselves. The drama doesn't give us a chance to truly know them before the plot begins to move. They are simply thrown into the story, cross paths almost immediately, and before we have a solid understanding of who they are, one character is already becoming attracted to the other.

The FL repeatedly uses physical force to bend others' knees and become a bully. Yes, a bully. She has no trouble making enemies wherever she goes; no wonder people want to kill her. She drove her father's concubine out of the house and showed no concern when she died. She let her "enemies" fall into a pond, kneel on broken glass, and nearly get killed in a carriage accident. To make things even more frustrating, she's the one who gets defended! Sorry and empathy are not there in her eyes! Just self-righteousness. Maybe I could understand it if the drama explained why she became so cruel, but it never does. It makes me hate her. Many viewers love her and call her a strong character. What the heck! She is just cruelly beautiful. She lacks the necessary virtues to be considered the "heroine". But, as an anti-hero, she is not interesting, either.

The ML is no better; he somehow exists just for comic relief. He utterly lacks maturity as an adult. He doesn't seem to care about the government, even though he is a crown prince. Repeatedly, he is stated as sickly and idle. But what our screen shows is that he is mostly healthy and indulging in romance. Why he even falls in love with FL cannot be explained. She is a woman without warmth and incapable of caring for others. Warmth and care should be his foremost needs, considering his life history. The ML and the FL are incompatible. But the plot forces them to become a couple. Multiple times, the ML praised FL for what she is doing, but as a viewer, I feel apprehensive instead.

3# Poor romance

The FL effortlessly becomes the object of affection for nearly every prince in the kingdom. One falls for her because of her beauty and because she once saved him. Another is drawn to her beauty and strong personality. Someone else is attracted by her beauty and her family's military power. Yet another sees echoes of his late wife in her beauty and abilities. Taken together, these romantic interests feel highly artificial. It makes no sense why all the princes are competing for her as if there were no other princesses in the kingdom. To deserve admiration, does she ever do a real, genuine, righteous thing for the world? The past FL (as Shen) is a pampered young woman, while as Gu, she is cold and cruel. The current FL (Gu+Shen) is arrogant and selfish. Not many things about her deserve admiration.

The problem is not only that multiple princes fall in love with the same woman easily, but that the drama never explores love as a theme in itself. In this drama, love is a matter of saying "I love you", "I want you to be mine", "I'll marry you", "I will sacrifice everything for you," and "I will prioritize you above everything." Those are coming straight from imagination, not reality. This drama doesn't explore the deeper emotional connection that each relationship is meant to fulfill. In fact, love is only natural when two people whose psychological needs, values, and experiences genuinely resonate with one another. But these emotional layers are completely ignored in the narrative. There is no moment of shared experience and appreciation, or sharing each other's dreams, pasts, and wounds, as foundations of romantic connections.

4# Lazy writing

This drama seems to combine romance with politics. However, the story is drenched in shallow romance, yet gone dry in quality politics. This drama has no antagonist/ enemy at all. What is the past struggle or the future aspiration that affects the present? Where are the political factions and notable politicians in the court, the competing princes, the other parties with comparable ambition and agenda besides the FL and ML? Nowhere to be found.

This drama never establishes a main conflict. What exactly is happening at the macro level? Yes, we learn that the Crown Prince was poisoned as a child in an assassination attempt. But he is now an adult. What is the immediate political crisis? Is the government plagued by corruption? Is another prince secretly maneuvering to seize the throne while waiting for the Crown Prince to die? Which prince? What are his motives? And if everyone expects the Crown Prince to die anyway, what purpose does all the political scheming and corruption actually serve? There should be something big, but where is the foreshadowing? Nowhere to be found.

And, why should we care about the FL's marriage and with whom? We are never shown why the FL is so crazy about power. It is said that someone intends to covet his family's military power. But at the same time, it is also stated that the border is stable, her family is trusted by the emperor, and she comes to the capital to marry, not to become a hostage. Some people say FL wants power to protect her family from those who want to destroy them. Really? When she is so ruthless, guarded by several bodyguards all the time? With a group this powerful, the story keeps portraying them as the vulnerable ones.

What political stake does FL personally have? Why does she become involved in state affairs while the other noblewomen and princesses remain largely on the sidelines? The story never clearly defines what makes her uniquely positioned for a political role. Has she ever studied statecraft, politics, or governance? Was she raised in a well-educated family with nurturing grandparents and a noble family legacy? Did she learn from the people's suffering? So far, her family has served no purpose other than comic relief. And she comes to the capital only to cause trouble in the royal family. Princes who were once on good terms end up competing against each other.

5# Weak resolution

Repeatedly, my jaw dropped at how they solve problems. Every time is like a deus ex machina moment! The challenge/ conflict is too easy, and the resolution is just meh. The pattern is super noticeable, and they never show, only tell.

The writer apparently wants the FL to stand out, so the plot keeps manufacturing opportunities for her to shine. Suddenly, a corrupt official's ledger appears. Suddenly, a secret map is stolen. Suddenly, a jealous princess appears. Suddenly, there's an assassination attempt. And right on cue, the crown prince (the ML) arrives to save the day. To win the audience's sympathy, the FL/ML are made to be nearly killed or suffer a few injuries, only to recover a day or two later after a visit from a physician checking pulse and some miraculous herbal remedy.

No background information and no supporting environment for intelligent problem-solving. No explanation of why the problem happened (the context, the inciting incident, the chain of conflict from the previous events), and no explanation of how the problem is technically solved. These make the story BORING as hell. They are doing nothing but sitting, meeting and talking, eating and sleeping, strolling and enjoying the scenery, falling off cliffs and taking medicine, getting sick, and the next day, recovering, or discussing things trivially, and suddenly the information comes in handy. What are the goals and the stakes? Where are the struggles and the process? Nada.

Also, the worldbuilding is too weak to support any grand story. The story treats the world as though it can be reshaped whenever the plot demands it. The "miracle" arbitrarily applies only to the FL. A twin-moon phenomenon, soul transmigration, resurrection, and the sudden emergence of a near-superhuman FL are all extraordinary concepts, yet the drama offers little explanation for how or why they work. Is it related to some "unfinished business" from the deceased? Or is it just a random event? The "bodily miracle" of the Crown Prince is also super confusing. We don't know how he is trained and what he studies. There are no "teacher" and martial artist guru in the story at all.

6# The last thing to say

Personally, I think the story would have been much stronger and more meaningful if it had begun with the Crown Prince's ordeal. That opening would immediately establish a clear narrative objective: uncover the mastermind behind the assassination attempts and bring them to justice. The tension would become even more compelling if the attempts on his life continued over the years, not just once in the past, and how he is traumatized by it.

Facing an invisible enemy, the good emperor could gradually descend into paranoia, viewing his officials, consorts, and his princes with growing suspicion. In turn, those who feel threatened by the emperor would begin building their own networks. Officials support one prince over the other, fueling corruption and political maneuvering that drive the conflict. In this version, corruption would no longer exist merely as a backdrop but as a believable consequence of fear and mutual distrust within the court. Then the ledger's appearance would make sense and be more meaningful for the righteous emperor to uphold justice.

I wish the story were more realistic rather than fantastical. The soul transmigration subplot is unnecessary, as the story can run without it. The FL could simply remain the general's daughter from the very beginning. Growing up on the frontier and alongside the military would already give her a unique perspective, resilience, and practical skills that distinguish her from other noblewomen. There would be no need to justify her competence through supernatural means. Gu and Shen have been best friends from the beginning, and they really exchange knowledge and skills.

The FL and the ML meet during their own journey, one to the capital to marry and the other to seek a remedy. When her ship sinks in a storm, the Crown Prince saves her life by giving her a rare medicinal herb that was originally meant for his own treatment. His decision carries genuine emotional weight because he has already begun to lose hope of recovering from the poison that has slowly been killing him. He doesn't need to be portrayed as an extraordinary martial artist (just so so is enough)—his vulnerability thus reveals the depth of his character through an act of selfless compassion. No need for disguise. He raised his hopes again after meeting the capable FL (who helped him acquire the stolen ledger). He wants her to ally with him so that he can become a true Crown Prince, despite his short lifespan.

Of course, I don't expect every drama to be perfect. I understand that making a good drama is not easy. But we've grown tired of the same romance-and-politics stories that lack creativity and logic. Too many dramas today feel like recycled versions of one another, reusing familiar tropes, plot devices (oh! the falling off the cliff), and character archetypes with little effort to create something meaningful, with a bit of change here and there. And, drama producers keep making everything look more lavish, grand, and visually intricate, but beneath all that spectacle, the stories themselves are surprisingly hollow. Spectacle may capture our attention, but only a coherent, thoughtful, and meaningful story can truly earn our admiration—and endure long after the final episode.

Perhaps you come to this drama for the heart-fluttering romance—and there's nothing wrong with that. But if you're searching for a story that rewards careful attention and deeper reflection, this drama offers little. To those who enjoy it, happy watching. As for me, this is where I stop. Time is too precious to spend on stories that leave me no better than before.

they DELIVERED.....lived up to every single expectations from the trailer

After watching the first four episodes of Blossoms of Power, I can confidently say the hype was absolutely worth it. From the very first scene, the drama pulls you into a world of political intrigue, hidden identities, revenge, and quiet romance without wasting a single moment. The pacing is tight, every episode leaves you wanting more, and the production quality is nothing short of breathtaking. The cinematography, costumes, and soundtrack all come together to create a grand historical atmosphere that feels both elegant and immersive.

Meng Ziyi is phenomenal as Shen Xi He—calm, intelligent, and emotionally restrained, yet you can feel the weight of her past behind every expression. She perfectly captures a heroine who relies on strategy rather than brute force. He Yu is equally impressive as Crown Prince Xiao Hua Yong, balancing a seemingly fragile exterior with razor-sharp intelligence. Their chemistry isn't built on instant romance but on mutual respect, subtle glances, and mind games, making every interaction incredibly compelling.

What impressed me most is how smart the writing feels. The political schemes are engaging without being confusing, the supporting characters already have distinct personalities, and the tension keeps building with every revelation. Instead of relying on cheap cliffhangers, the drama earns your investment through strong storytelling and layered characters. Four episodes in, Blossoms of Power has delivered everything fans hoped for after those stunning trailers—and maybe even more. If it maintains this level of quality throughout its run....

Fun Theatrics and Beautiful Visuals with a Mix of Slow-burn Romance and Underwhelming Plot

I honestly have mixed feelings about this drama. I found the starting and ending rather underwhelming but there was a huge chunk of the drama which I enjoyed so much. There were days when I loved it with my everything but also times when even 1.5x speed wasn’t fast enough to get me through the mind-numbing story.

The premise of this drama is simple and unoriginal but among the sea of rebirth tropes, Blossoms of Power tries a little something different. Instead of Gu Qingzhi’s soul taking over Xihe’s body, in the event of a rare celestial phenomenon when Xihe has a close brush with death - Gu Qingzhi and Shen Xihe’s souls integrate together to form a third entity who possess both of their skills and memories. At first, it seems a little more than a censorship to make marrying her brother-in-law seem less awkward since the new Xihe absorbs all the personality and traits of Qingzhi, and Xihe’s memories just serves as a convenient perk but as the story progresses, you can feel more of Xihe in her carefree and openness and it becomes easier to accept her as a new persona.

Xihe is cunning, decisive and straightforward, she says what she wants outright and is capable of handling any situation on her own. Unlike the regular rebirth plot, her motive is not revenge but a better and secured life. Gu Qingzhi’s life had a closure without regrets, and she completed her revenge with her death so in this new life, her only goal is to have enough power to protect herself and her loved ones and to live a good life. And thus, she looks for a marriage alliance not of love but of mutual trust and aligned goals.

Xiao Huayong is personally in a league of his own and is the single most reason I enjoyed this drama so much. I don’t know about original, but he is such a breadth of fresh air. Huayong is scheming, manipulative, a little delusional, insanely dramatic and cheeky but so incredibly understanding, caring and unapologetically in love. There has never been a man so frail yet formidable and his weaponized coughs and handy fainting techniques are the heart of this drama. Honestly, I cannot praise He Yu enough for embodying Huayong to this level of perfection. Huayong’s scheming mind, his sincere heart, his yearning, his joy and sadness was expressed so beautifully in his eyes and expressions that I could not look away every time he was on screen. Not to mention he looks simply ethereal in this styling.

Both the leads are smart, calculating, evenly matched and so on top of their game that no other character came close to winning. In its core, Blossoms of Power is a romance, even if the romance included Huayong chasing Xihe for the better part of the story, but their strong chemistry and Huayong’s never-ending antics never made me feel tired of their slow progressing romance. I understood Xihe’s caution and appreciated Huayong’s understanding, devotion and love that knew no bounds. And personally, to see them finally together and in love was so worth the wait.

The plot on the other hand seemed very unimpressive to me. The level of uninterest I showed in it was a personal feat for me. I don't know if it’s because I was so invested in the fillers that everything else paled in comparison or the writing and execution was that poor but from the political intrigue to palace drama, the plot felt very shallow that just came and went. There was no suspense, no setbacks and logic took a backseat where frequent assassination attempts and fire breakouts merely served as a momentary spectacle and every hindrance was solved by the FL’s preternatural sense of smell and extraordinary talent in incense-making.

The character writing had better luck as most of the characters had genuinely interesting settings and was refreshing to watch. The second couple was really enjoyable and had good chemistry, and Bu Shulin has to be one of the best cross-dressing in dramas ever. The princes were written rather unconventionally - entangled in their love lives instead of the battle for the throne. And while sometimes a little too much, I appreciated their sincerity and devotion to their partners since it's something we rarely see in dramas. Other supporting characters were also refreshingly different but unfortunately weren’t developed enough. Their backstories and development were messy and lacking which made them hard to connect to. Even their deaths felt more anticlimactic than sad because despite the decent emotional setting, there was little buildup leading to it.

Visually, it was really beautiful. The production, the cinematography, the costumes and the styling was absolutely stunning and really pleasing to watch. The osts were also really good and I absolutely loved Zhou Shen’s Bustling Mortal World which made the story so much more beautiful to me.

Overall, I really did love this drama a lot even if I wish I could’ve enjoyed it a little more. Blossoms of Power has a lot of flaws, from the shaky pacing to underwhelming plot so I probably wouldn't recommend it for its politics and plot but for the romance and Huayong’s tireless theatrics, this drama was so worth it and I absolutely do not regret watching it.

It's still too early, but "It is a comedy in which both the male and female leads are villains..

For now [ 10 ep ] , I can only say that both the lead actor and actress are doing a fantastic job. They both seamlessly embody their characters. The male lead never even tries to hide the love in his eyes, but because of his cunning nature, when he's being the Crown Prince, he's one person, and when he approach her in another persona that his Crown Prince identity cannot do, he's another person (while always intentionally letting the female lead know those personas are the same person).

Personally, I really like it when a male actor has a look that is a little bit mischievous, cunning, competent, but also a bit scheming, and I don't mean they are a bad person, I mean they have a healthy relationship with her but they are just scheming, cunning, and good at planning. So I think He Yu did a really good job.

As for Meng Ziyi, I'm already not worried about her. The story is supposed to convey that she is a woman of breathtaking beauty, men fall in love with her at first sight, but because she has already died once, she is wary of trusting people, tells herself that she must be careful and ruthless with the villains. She chooses him only because he cannot harm her and makes her trust him.

Here’s an additional review after finishing Episode 29 and getting a general grasp of the whole story.

Unbelievably, besides falling in love with the male lead, I also fell in love with Bushulin and The Stone Cui. They are such a cute, touching, and hilarious couple. Bushulin is the one I fell for right after the Crown Prince, followed by The Stone Cui, who shares the same thick-skinned nature as the Crown Prince. He never gives up even when scolded or chased away by a woman. He is deeply devoted, crafty, scheming, persistent, and fully dedicated to her. At their core, they are a couple of equal intelligence, just in different ways. She is a skilled martial artist and a born soldier who could defeat men, yet whenever she gets hugged by The Stone Cui, she can't instantly break free—sometimes even standing frozen and blushing without running away. That’s how Stone Cui caught on that she likes him too. Once he realized this, he pursued her relentlessly, using every trick up his sleeve in the most hilarious ways.

The story of this second lead couple will ultimately lead to deeply touching moments.
