i do think there is an issue with the pacing with the last few eps, because if i didn't read the novel then huayong coming is just so confusing, they make no mention that he's still technically alive and recuperating, would've liked to see more to that like how his body just disappears and then he is back 4 years later 😭😭 but overall one of the best this year

When the Cunning Meets the Shrewd
Lets meet Shen Hexi the resurrected shrewd and ruthless woman, and Xiao Huayong the forever frail and cunning crown prince. Both needed to tread the jagged path of the court and palace and learnt to dabble between what they intend people to see of them, and what they really are. Both are very calculative and strategically crafty. Shen Hexi is a commandery princess summoned by the emperor to the capital from the Northwest frontier to marry a prince. She sets her objective in stone right from the start, to marry a prince who would guarantee the safety of herself and her clan, one who would never have their power hungry interests clash with the survival of her family. Although she found the delicate crown prince counting days to his end to fit this role, the crown prince found himself drowned in the love for Shen Hexi, and contemplate whether to satisfy his greed by marrying her to spend the remaining short years he has on his life with, or avoid her from becoming a widow and face palace intrigue all alone altogether, all while he is investigating about the real culprit behind his poisoning when he was a child.I am always a sucker at harem power struggle and this show has one of the most satisfying inner palace face-off ever. The FL being an extremely shrewd and ruthless right from the start makes sure no one could trample her after being resurrected into She Hexi’s body. She does not need a hero to swoop her off her feet and fend dangers for her, because she strategically lays her groundwork before going into any fight at all. She doesn’t need to wield a spear or a sword, all she needed is to grasp the will of the people around her, a true political heroine. Meng Ziyi excelled in this, since she’s had a share on playing similar role in Blossom, though Shen Hexi is, in my opinion, waaay better than Dou Zhao when it comes to ruthlessness. She set clear objectives and boundaries, lets people know and understand this, and she never gets swayed by smooth-talking, pleading or threatening.
This is the second time that i saw He Yu and he carried the ML character really well. I am actually surprised to realize he was actually Furong Jun from Legend of Shenli. I definitely did not recognize him until I checked out his MDL page after i finished the show. Anyway, the Crown Prince is written to be extremely meticulous, crafty and intelligent, but what I like the most is how he manoeuvred around his siblings to eliminate their chances at FL’s hand. And i totally love the fact that he’d act coquetishly with Fifth Prince Xiao Changqing at some point of the show despite being at odds with each other, acting like a real baby brother with that little cheeky voice,”Help me bandage the wound, it’s painful, brother,” 😆 or “brother, i am hungry,” and then provoke him the next minute. He’s like the youngest brother who is showered with most love by the parents and goes off playing pranks with his lesser-favoured brothers and shout victim to get away. This character is very shameless, be it using his illness to curry favour or get away with anything, or gaslighting people to get them go with his plans. It’s honestly a fun amid grey flag character. I can’t particularly stand possessive ML so I am glad he snapped out of it quickly after or else i might have dropped this. It’s amazing how in sync the Crown Prince is with Shen Hexi once theyre together. And how he carefully wove his intricate net of people all over the place so she would never run out of help to maneouvre around the court is exceedingly brilliant and sweet at the same time.
Though I must say the star couple is actually the side couple Captain Bu Shulin and Vice Minister Cui Jinbai. To see the reverse-courting by Captain Bu on Cui is totally hilarious, especially when she did it only to use him as a shield against the courting from the noble ladies. The fact that she’s only after him for something non romance-related is fun to watch, especially when her male disguise is very convincing and she looks nothing feminine at all. Her height and sharp, chiselled facial feature contributed a lot to this, which most actresses who have played cross dressing roles lack of. The voice didnt sound deep enough for a man but she really did better than most cross-dressing actress i’ve seen so far, though i am not too sure if she dubbed her own voice or not. She also maintained a masculine mannerism throughout the disguise and never faltered even once. I am very impressed with the actress. How this character tries to get away when Cui finally reciprocated afterwards was even more hilarious. They’re really fun to watch.
There are a lot of familiar faces here, i spotted those who played Xia Jingshi from Fated Hearts, Yu Qianqian from Pursuit of Jade, Gu Yu from Vendetta of An, Shen Muyue from Legend of Shenli. I am ecstatic to see Jeremy Xu who played Gu Mudan from Whispers of Fate and most recently Peter Ho who also played FL’s father in Key to the Phoenix Heart which I dropped right before starting on this show. They all gave an exceptional performance and I adore them very much.
There were more romance scenes than action/physical fights here, and there wasn’t as much palace intrigue as I anticipated, too bad for that. Not sure how the novel went, but I felt that there was so much more potential for this show to expand of the court power struggles and physical fights by the seemingly-delicate-but-actually-skillfully-strong crown prince. I just feel that it could have been a more engaging plot than it really is, instead of focusing on the main couple courtship which was really boring to me. But on a side note, i liked both characters enough not to use the FF button too much. 😆
Regardless, I enjoyed this show.

My opinion about ML's character
I started this drama because of the second couple, i loved their dynamics and they were my main motivation to finish it.(Second couple are my biological parents btw, I don’t make the rules.)
The drama was actually very good, it was very easy to watch, with the right amount of romance, politics and harem elements. The side characters were well written and easy to love. The main couple was also cute.
Overall, i liked it and gave it a rather high rating.
There’s just one thing that baffles me.
Why is it that i saw few negative comments about the female lead’s cold personality and her not reciprocating ML's feelings sooner but I haven’t seen a single person talk about the ML's pushy side?
Its crystal clear the male lead is devoted to his partner and has everything planned out for her and does his best to ensure she’s happy and safe that makes him a green flag in many ways (and i love his shamelessness) but there were clear moments of him being pushy with fl and not respecting her boundaries.. while watching i found those scene quite uncomfortable but i didn’t pay it much attention since she acted okay afterwards,
But I just don’t understand why this flaw of ml is overlooked but the fl being cold towards everyone equally and not falling for ml at first sight is considered such a horrible thing?
And regarding the ending,
I’ve always thought a drama needing comments from other watchers or reading a novel to make the audience understand the plot better means it was incompetent in communicating its story clearly.
I finished the drama and had to spend an hour going through all comments from mdl and twitter just to understand wth was happening in the final episode.
This is just my opinion about some aspects of the drama otherwise it was a good drama and I quite enjoyed it.

The best of 2026
I started watching the drama bcoz of He Yu, he truly never fail to make me cry on those heavy scenes.Im also starting to fall inlove to Meng Ziyi. Her acting is really on the highest level. its her first drama that I watched. Well, Im thinking of watching all her drama from now on.
Honestly, the cinematography is not that extravagant if I compare it to other Cdrama that I watched. The music is so-so. Then the fact that they used VO for He Yu makes me a little bit dissapointed. But overall I love this.

Shameless Crown Prince Falls for His Ice-Cold Crown Princess
Blossoms of Power (百花杀) is a historical Chinese drama starring Meng Ziyi and He Yu. It blends palace intrigue, political strategy, revenge, and romance into a fast-moving story.👍🏻Likes:
🩷Shen Xihe is intelligent, calm, and highly strategic. Instead of waiting to be rescued, she takes control of her own fate, making her one of the drama's greatest strengths. I loved that she was always one step ahead and never relied on others to solve her problems. Meng Ziyi delivers a convincing performance as the determined heroine. She portrays her character with confidence, intelligence, and emotional depth, making it easy to connect with her journey.
🩷I really liked He Yu's portrayal of Crown Prince Xiao Huayong. His screen presence was incredible, and his performance made me become a fan of his acting all over again. 🥹✨I especially loved how shamelessly and persistently he pursued Shen Xihe. 🤭💕 The way he slowly won her heart without ever giving up was so enjoyable to watch. Their interactions had great chemistry.
🩷The court politics are engaging, with plenty of twists, shifting alliances, and power struggles that keep the story exciting and constantly moving forward. Every political move and scheme adds tension, making it hard to predict what will happen next.
🩷The costumes, palace sets, and cinematography are absolutely stunning. Every scene feels grand, elegant, and beautifully crafted, making each episode visually captivating. The attention to detail in the costumes and production design adds so much to the overall atmosphere, giving the drama a truly cinematic feel. ✨🏯🎬
🩷I must say I really liked Lai Weiming's portrayal of Prince Lei. He did an amazing job with the character. 🥹✨At first, I honestly thought Prince Lei would turn into an obsessive and possessive second male lead, but I'm so glad the character didn't go in that direction. Instead, I really appreciated how he accepted his unrequited feelings for Shen Xihe, chose to let go gracefully, and sincerely wished for her happiness. That made me respect his character even more. ❤️And haha, I was actually shipping him with Shen Xihe's half-sister, Shen Yingrou, but that ship sank before it could even set sail. 😂🚢💔

💔I like that the romance develops gradually, though at times I find the slow pace a little frustrating.
💔Another character I had mixed feelings about was Jeremy Xu's character Prince Xin. Even though the drama revealed his reason for committing treason in the second-last episode, I wasn't fully convinced by how his character was written. To me, Prince Xin didn't contribute much to the overall story. Most of his screen time revolved around his possessiveness and obsession, and I feel the writers could have developed his character much better by giving him more depth and a stronger role in the plot. Jeremy Xu delivered a solid performance with what he was given, but I think the screenplay let his character down. Interestingly, he also played an obsessive second male lead in *Love of Nirvana*. I hope he gets to take on more diverse and well-written roles in the future instead of being typecast in similar characters.
✨Final verdict
If you enjoy dramas like The Double, Story of Kunning Palace, or Blossom, Blossoms of Power is well worth watching. It stands out for its smart heroine, intricate political plotting, and high production quality. While it isn't perfect, it's one of the stronger historical C-dramas of 2026 so far.

Just ok
While there isn't anything terribly wrong with this drama, there also isn't much that stands out. The story has all the skeleton and pieces that could be made into an epic period piece, but not enough flesh is ever put onto the characters, plot or themes. Shen Xihe is driven and ambitious, but I never quite get why. Not enough of her back story as Gu Qingzhi is portrayed on screen, so I feel little connection to her for most of the drama. It also makes her relationship with Prince Xin strange, and poor Jeremy Xu just ends up looking like an obsessed love-struck fool. Perhaps just nixing the rebirth element would have fixed that issue.The political storyline is also weak in its pacing and overall development, opting for a last minute a-ha reveal that is void of dramatic weight due to lack of build up. The harder but potentially more interesting story to tell would have been to bring the back story into the forefront from the beginning and with the audience knowing, portray the cat-and-mouse game in the court in a more sophisticated manner. Alas, missed opportunity.
Romance in these type of dramas is always secondary for me. It should a nice icing on a rich story, but here it isn't even enough to make up for the story's major flaws. Additionally, Meng Ziyi and He Yu lack in chemistry on screen, and neither is a good enough performer to carry through on their own in their individual dramatic scenes.
While a much richer production with better costuming, lighting and set pieces than say, the recent Key to the Phoenix Heart, unfortunately this drama lacks in heart and soul for much of its 36 episodes. Check it out if you are a fan of the cast or period dramas in general, but it's just another meh one for me.

It's really a good drama for me in 2026!
Firstly I was waiting for this drama bcoz of watched heyu in speed and love and I liked him,and he didn't disappoint me or the story either .i really liked the yearner type male leads and he is really down bad for the fl.and he portrayed the yearner , emotional, little comedy type very well .and he is a cutie patootie.
And meng ziyi i didn't watched her any show only in reality shows ,in shows she is really a bubbly person but in drama her arrogant,cold female lead character was done really well and her styling in this drama made her even more beautiful!❤️
Iam not saying anything more story , don't want to give spoilers just little introduction,his name haoyang and crown prince who was poisoned in young age but he has good martial arts skill he will fall in love with the commandry princess shen xihe who is justiceful, beautiful and arrogant and the story goes there ,I seen some little bad reviews like this is not some more typical revenge drama more into slow burn romance .
The chemistry between leads is really good like,he fell first,he fell harder and she fell hardest type love ,this is a happy ending drama watch it it's worth and one of the best cdrama in 2026🥹🤏

Great Foundation, But Missed Opportunities and a Rushed Finale
Right from the start, the lead selection felt a bit off. There is a noticeable visual age gap; the female lead looks visibly older, while the male lead looks quite young, creating a clash in their visual chemistry. This extended into their character dynamics as well. Having a female lead who is essentially two souls merged into one (due to reincarnation) paired up against such a young male lead made their overall dynamic feel disjointed early on.Yet, the historical foundation of the plot is fascinating, drawing clever inspiration from real Ming Dynasty history; specifically the power struggles among the royal brothers, their tragic demises, and the sole remaining heir who ascends the throne to enact major reforms.
The acting from the female lead is fantastic and deeply expressive. Her headstrong persona mirrors a very specific, popular archetype we’ve seen across recent C-dramas (like the leads, Dilraba and Gulnazar ). While she executed it well, I wish directors would isolate their characters more rather than following current aesthetic trends; thus giving these novel adaptations a stronger sense of individuality. Kinda what we've seen with dramas like LLTG or The Double.
Where this drama truly shines is its supporting cast and genre versatility. It blends palace intrigue, military politics, spiritual elements, and a revenge plot; offering a little bit of something for everyone.
The Marquise: A absolute scene-stealer! She is not only stunning, but her physical acting and fighting capability (whether doing her own stunts or working seamlessly with a stunt double) were amazing. She deserved way more screen time.
The Martial Arts & Military Cast: The young fighter alongside the Crown Prince and the military-minded younger prince were both incredibly believable and well-cast. Their action scenes were crisp, and I would love to see this group reunited in a full-fledged military or strategic drama!
The Prince & The Veterans: The 5th Prince’s actor brought a wildly unhinged, crazy-eyed energy with matching dramatic makeup that definitely stood out. Meanwhile, the veteran actors playing the Emperor, Consort Rong, and the Grand Dowager delivered the exact high-caliber performance you expect.
The Younger Gu Sister: Her character gave off distinct short vertical drama vibes. Her dramatic delivery felt a bit unanchored compared to the main show's pacing, though the reveal of her palace schemes being orchestrated by the Grand Dowager was a neat touch.
The Ending Problem: Rushed Pacing & Missed Potential
Unfortunately, the final stretch (Episodes 36 and 37) falls into familiar C-drama trapdoors:
The Fake Death & Cure Arc: The male lead fakes his death to travel for four years to find a cure, but we see none of that journey. It would have been so much more sophisticated if he had left a trail of subtle yearly hints for the female lead. Instead, he just reappears with gray hair; only to immediately need her to nurse him back to health again, pulling her right back into a domestic caretaker role.
Court Navigation Missed: After her coronation as Grand Dowager, we barely get to see her navigate the court. Instead of fast-forwarding, the writers could have easily turned this into four rich episodes, with each episode spanning a year of her managing court politics.
The Disconnected Family Dynamic: The dynamic between the male lead and his four-year-old son felt unnecessarily cold. Leaving written notes isn't a substitute for real bonding, and excluding the child from key emotional reunions made the family dynamic feel strange.
Final Thoughts
While the 5th Prince’s twist; playing the traitor to make sure the female lead was hailed as a savior...was a dramatic sacrifice, it still leaned into tropes we’ve kind of seen before.
Blossoms of Power has a fantastic historical backdrop, great action, and an incredible ensemble cast. While budget and episode constraints ultimately rushed its final act, it remains a very entertaining watch for fans of multi-genre historical dramas!

It gets better and better
The ML drew me in immediately, he’s like a mix of Ji Bozai from Love in the Clouds, and Duke Su from The Double. The FL took me many episodes to warm up to, it doesn’t help that she always has that startled look on her face literally all the time. As the episodes went on, it got better and better. The acting is truly superb, the costume design mind blowers, and the cinematography beautiful. I’m also obsessed with the song they play at the ending credits. WATCH IT, trust the process, it is a bit lukewarm at the very beginning. I’m about to watch the last episodes and I’m so emotionally invested in these characters, I’ve laughed and cried plenty.Was this review helpful to you?
One of the best dramas of the year
I HATE THIS SHOW SO SO MUCH 😭😭😭 I have never cried at a show as much as I have this. Absolutely beautiful. It's so beautiful I hate it. One of the best dramas I have ever watched. At the start, I thought this was more of a drama that focuses on the romance and isn't really plot-heavy, but when I tell you I have never cried at the last 10 episodes as I have this show. I dare anyone to ever hate on my girl Meng ZiYi's acting ever again. The emotions she conveyed were so amazing, I felt as if I were her, and I was feeling exactly what she was. Dare I say this should become her representative work, even better than Blossom. Despite this being HeYu's first main historical role, he absolutely killed it. If there were any historical I'd recommend to someone, it's this. I'm still crying as I'm writing this that's how emotion-filled these episodes were. Beautiful story through and through
Just finished it and I am currently an emotional mess this drama had everything from comedy to romance to drama to political intrigue it had me hooked. I will say when it hit the late 20s my interest was dying but they had an amazing fight scene that reeled me back in immediately.From 30 onwards get your tissues ready folks cause the tears will not stop. Thank you to all the actors and actresses involved in this drama from main to support they carried this drama with such amazing acting I thought this was happening right before my eyes. My girl Meng Ziyi should not see a day of hate on her acting after this masterpiece the emotions she conveyed were so raw and real that I felt them all through a screen. I also have to give flowers to Xu Zhengxi/Jeremy Xu wow that guy had me feeling all kinds of emotions I have never felt so strongly about a charscter before in my life. His performance at the end of the drama was breathtaking it had me at the edge of my seat in suspense and tears I will for sure be tuning into more of his work.
If OSTs are what really make you stay for a drama let me tell the OSTs were jaw dropping I have to give it to the editors for knowing when to put which OST because it made every scene more captivating. in the last 6 episodes there wasn’t a single OST that didn’t instantly get me into the mood I don’t know if this was intentional but the lyrics of the OSTs that played matched the scenes perfectly it was as if it was the inner monologue of the character in said scene.
My final conclusion is this is one of the best historical/costume drama of 2026 I highly recommend this to anyone who thinks of watching it.

Had to take half a point off.. but hear me out..
I truly enjoyed this show overall.. He Yu was the star of this show.. his character was so endearing and hilarious.. about not giving it a perfect 10.. was because of the writers. If you are going to introduce all these characters.. at least give them proper closure.. don't just end their story abruptly and lazily.. some people just got killed off and some villains weren't punished.. just disappeared off the story.. I also had the same feeling about the ending.. felt like they couldve added another episode to make the transition smoother not just remove things and throw something else at me at the very last minute.. As for the show in general I did enjoy it and I was excited for the next episode every time.. the seriousness of palace schemes was eased with He Yu's shameless antics that cracked me up throughout the show.. The story had so many twists and turns I kept thinking I knew who the villain was and then bam plot twist.. I also liked how eventhough there were so much tension between all the princes.. they all still genuinely cared for eachother and did not intentionally harm one another as in physically if you catch my drift.. As for Meng Ziyi.. I've gotten used to her being this type of cold, stern character every time and honestly l dont see her any other way.. I would rewatch this show and I would recommend it as well..
