Blossoms of Power was honestly really good. It was such a comforting drama, and everything that happened actually made sense instead of feeling random. The main leads fit their roles so well, and their chemistry made the story even better. I also liked that the court scenes were never boring, which surprised me. One thing I wish they had done was give the second leads more screen time because they were interesting too. I also loved that they showed the main couple with their child afterward since most dramas end as soon as there's a pregnancy. I probably wouldn't rewatch it because I personally don't like rewatching dramas, but overall it was amazing and definitely worth watching. Was this review helpful to you?
The lead characters are intelligent, resilient, and have incredible chemistry. Their relationship develops naturally, making both the romantic and emotional scenes feel genuine. The supporting cast also delivers strong performances, with each character adding depth to the story.
One of the drama's greatest strengths is its stunning cinematography. The costumes, palace settings, and traditional Chinese aesthetics are breathtaking, creating a visually rich experience. The background music perfectly complements the emotional scenes, making key moments even more memorable.

Looks Sparkly But Lacks Substance
Positive Points1. The cinematography, direction, color grading and editing were top-notch. A big thanks to the screenwriter for not misleading the viewers, as quite a few dramas did in the name of drama adaptation this year. The screenwriter changed quite a few things, but the main essence of the story was not destroyed. Though I have quite a few complaints with a few things, this adaptation can truly be called the drama adaptation of the original novel.
2. The cast was good, and quite a few known faces were there. Though I was not quite satisfied with Meng Zi Yi's acting, the rest of the cast did well. He Yu was the perfect guy to play the pretending-to-be-sickly, harmless, flirty, but actually scheming and manipulating everything from behind-the-scenes type crown prince. I can not name all, but quite a few of the supporting cast have got my attention, especially the actress playing Bu Shu Lin. She is the only woman I believed was a man.
3. The pacing of the story was good, and though it felt a bit dragged towards the middle, it ended well.
Negative Points
1. ML has been toned down a lot, and he is mostly shown as a love-brained, which is ridiculous. In a female-centric drama, what is this obsession with the screenwriter to show the ML as an incompetent, love-brained guy? Why can he not be sane as well just because he fell in love? I am not asking the writer to give too much focus on the ML, but at least give something to the viewers so that the ML to look incompetent. That chasing track of Bu Shulin was such a nice well-written track that gave everyone a spot to shine, but it was toned down a lot. Bu Shulin, Crown Prince, and the King and all other princes were all given their own stage. But the screenwriter had to make everything about the FL. Xiao Huayong is a complex character. He is not a love-obsessed guy at all. He loves the FL and yet did not lose his ruthlessness, and neither his vision as the future emperor. He knows where to control and where to use his soft-heartedness. It was such an elaborately written track but the drama toned down both Bu Shulin's capability, Xiao Huayong's testing Bu Shulin's capability, and saving her from the emperor and Shen Xihe's growing softness and the ML's mixed feelings about it. He was drawn to Shen Xihe's character but he neither turned soft-hearted nor did he lose his senses in love. Such a good thing was downplayed and ruined his character for me. ML being portrayed as a capable leader but hardly doing anything all the time and acting as a drama queen is quite inconsistent. As much as I loved his drama-queen sickly prince acting it would have been amazing to see him scheming too. The lack of it has totally affected his character for me.
2. That dividing the bed with the bell also did not make sense, considering Shen Xihe's character. She is decisive and emotionless right from the start. Once she makes a decision, she does not get back from her decision, nor does she make the other party (ML) incur a loss. She believes in trade, and it was normal to want a child that will help her secure her position as the mother of the future king, as her husband won't live long. So this useless bell thing does not make any sense to be honest. It just dragged the plot for me. Her being in love with her husband had to happen naturally. But going all the ways and dragging it out feels rather forced to me. There was no chemistry between the actors. That spark was missing in their love story, and I failed to connect to their story. Rather, I felt the 2nd ML & 2nd FL had better chemistry.
3. There is not much political scheming in this drama. I thought it would be a drama about succession struggle, and I was highly disappointed. The joint scheming between the ML & FL was completely left out in the drama, and their relationship felt quite boring to me. Their joint scheming was something I was looking forward in the drama. But all I got to see was the ML suddenly devoting his life for the FL and spending all the time in wooing her and the FL playing all hard to get. She did not feel like a character who was cold-hearted and was maintaining rationality for her well-being due to the representation of her character in the drama. What was the FL doing in the middle of a battlefield without battle gear and just came to shoot a single arrow. How ridiculous. I know it was to create a romantic atmosphere, but it didnot make any sense to me.
4. Meng Zi Yi is decent only in serious scenes but her expressions are very limited in other scenes. Especially since she has started to warm up to her husband, her expression was not up to par and sometimes even felt a bit cringy. Lately, all of her roles seem similar and in many of her future dramas she is likely playing a similar role. She at least needs to learn how to perfect acting for such roles since she is playing similar roles for quite some time.
5. Left too many things unexplained. Instead of the leads' joint scheming and cooperation, most of the time was spent on the ML wooing the FL. Why no mention of how the ML faked his death and how he reacted knowing the biggest truth of his life about who poisoned him?
Overall, if you do not like political scheming but rather cheesy romance, then you might like it. Otherwise, you would be disappointed like me.

HEYU HEYU
I watched this only for He Yu because I fell in love with his coughing antics. I maybe exaggerate but every scene of his is breathtaking. Man is so stunning. I think story and plotwise deserve 8 or 8.5 but because its He Yu, I give it 9.I've watched Blossom before and I really ship Meng Ziyi and He Yu but now I've watched this drama I think I could ship Meng Ziyi and He Yu too because they have a great chemistry. Those who said otherwise might be blind.
Finished this drama by in 5 days. It's kinda slow for me because usually I could watch 10 eps in 1 day. Maybe because the beginning was kinda slow for me.

Simping Princes
Not sure what went wrong with this . I didn't feel there was much chemistry between the two leads. I found the acting okay, I guess, but not always entirely convincing . Not a big fan of all the continual simping princes , infact I found the M/L, at times came accross as a little obnoxious. The ideas were there but for me the story line was poorly executed.. I did force myself to watch it through to the end, and liked the paternity twist, but believing the M/L had died only for him to suddenly reappear at the last minute was bonkers. On a positive note the sets and costume designs were great as was the music score I'm glad I watched it, but it wont get a re-watch..Was this review helpful to you?

Beautiful enough to distract me from the plot holes
Before I say anything about the writing, I need to give the production team a standing ovation because this drama is absolutely gorgeous. Every single frame looks like a painting. The warm autumn palette, the maple leaves gently falling from every direction, the elegant camera work, the composition... everything is simply breathtaking. It has that cozy yet melancholic atmosphere that makes you want to pause every few minutes just to admire the scenery. And don't even get me started on the sound arrangement. The OST blends beautifully with every emotional scene, while the background sound effects make the palace feel alive instead of hollow. Production-wise, Blossoms of Power is genuinely one of the prettiest costume dramas I've watched this year. They absolutely cooked with the visuals.Now... let's talk about the plot.
Honestly, beneath all those gorgeous visuals, this is still a pretty typical heavy-idol romance with a writing quality that doesn't quite match its production value. The premise immediately hooked me. In the very first episode, Gu Qingzhi ends her own life, and her soul possesses Shen Xihe's body. From then on, she continues living as Shen Xihe, carrying Gu Qingzhi's memories and regrets while staying in the same timeline. That setup alone was enough to make me press "next episode." Unfortunately, the more I watched, the more the plot started making me raise my eyebrows. Xiao Huayong, the Crown Prince, literally gives away his most precious medicine—the one keeping his incurable illness under control—to a complete stranger simply because he was captivated by her beauty. I'm sorry... WHAT? Shen Shen Xihe arrives in the capital for what is basically a giant husband-hunting event among the princes, and suddenly everyone becomes obsessed with her despite barely interacting with her. I understand she's beautiful and intelligent, but the relationship building happens way too quickly. Xiao Huayong is probably one of the most down bad male leads I've ever seen. Half of this drama is literally this man chasing Shen Xihe, flirting with her, teasing her, helping her, supporting her, and practically begging for her attention. Meanwhile, Shen Xihe remains cold, distant, emotionally unreadable, and almost impossible to approach for over twenty episodes. I understand that's supposed to be her personality, but the drama never gives us enough of Gu Qingzhi's previous life to explain why she became this emotionally closed-off. We desperately needed more backstory instead of simply being told, "She's just like that." As a result, I found it difficult to connect with her during the first half of the drama. We spend almost twenty-five episodes waiting for them to finally become the sweet married couple everyone was anticipating. That's... a very long wait for a romance-heavy drama.
Ironically, Xiao Huayong became the emotional heart of the entire story for me. This man had one of the most miserable lives imaginable. Poisoned since childhood, forced to grow up far away from the capital under the guise of recuperating in a temple, knowing he would never live a long life, while secretly investigating who had poisoned him all those years ago. Yet despite his fragile appearance, he was far from weak. He excelled in martial arts, quietly built an extensive intelligence network throughout the capital and imperial court, and stayed several steps ahead of almost everyone. While the palace viewed him as a harmless, sickly prince with no interest in the throne, he had already woven an invisible web around the entire court. He wasn't just smart—he was terrifyingly prepared. But what made me love Xiao Huayong the most wasn't his intelligence or his martial arts. It was the way he loved Shen Xihe. This man was completely, hopelessly, ridiculously in love with her, yet he never tried to force her hand. As the Crown Prince, he could have easily issued an imperial edict and made her his Crown Princess, but he never did. He pursued her relentlessly, flirted shamelessly, and yes... his down badism deserves academic research. But he always understood one thing: Shen Xihe was never a prize to be won. She wasn't a political trophy, nor was she something to possess. She was her own person, with her own choices, and her life belonged entirely to herself. He competed with the other princes, but he never competed for ownership of her. He simply hoped that one day she would willingly choose him after all her own considerations, negotiations, and terms. And when she finally did, it felt genuinely earned.
What makes him even more lovable is that all his power was never used to control Shen Xihe—it was used to protect her. From the very beginning, he tried to understand her instead of changing her. He quietly cleared obstacles from her path, supported every decision she made, and when he realized his own life was running out, he spent his remaining days arranging everything for her future. He made sure the people around him would continue protecting her. He told those he trusted to be good to her after he was gone. He paved the road so Shen Xihe wouldn't have to walk through thorns alone. That's the kind of down bad husband I wholeheartedly support. Not the possessive kind. The kind that says, "Even if I can't stay beside you, I'll make sure your future is peaceful." Xiao Huayong wasn't just in love with Shen Xihe—he loved her enough to prepare a life beyond his own existence.
Which is exactly why his death hurt so much. The scene that completely shattered me wasn't even his death itself, but when he carefully prepared lesson plans for his unborn child all the way until the age of fifteen because he knew he probably wouldn't live long enough to raise them. That scene genuinely caught me off guard. It was heartbreaking in the quietest way possible. ...And then the ending happened. We still had four episodes left after Xiao Huayong died, so I kept thinking, "Surely there's something bigger coming." Instead, we watched the palace settle into its new order, Shen Xihe became the Empress Dowager, their unborn child ascended the throne as emperor... and then, during the final two minutes, Xiao Huayong suddenly came back to life. Excuse me??? No explanation. No buildup. No logic. Nothing. I haven't read the novel, so I genuinely sat there wondering if I had accidentally skipped an episode. Thankfully, there's an extra episode, but if you only watch the main drama, that resurrection feels completely random.
The biggest disappointment, however, was the poison mystery. The Crown Prince spent his entire life searching for the person who poisoned him, yet the truth is only revealed in the very last episode, and the aftermath feels incredibly underwhelming. After spending thirty-six episodes building up that mystery, I expected a much stronger payoff and proper retaliation. Instead... it was just over. I do have to give a shoutout to Prince Xin, though. My opinion of him did a complete 180. At first I found him incredibly annoying, but by the end I genuinely appreciated his role in the story and thought his character added one of the more interesting twists.
As for the acting, Meng Ziyi felt a little flat during the first half of the drama. Maybe that was simply Shen Xihe's reserved personality, but once the character finally started showing more emotion later on, her performance became much more engaging. And finally... can we please give He Yu's stylist a gold plaque? Because WHAT ON EARTH. I genuinely didn't expect him to look THAT ridiculously handsome in historical costume. Somebody please lock this man inside Hengdian and cast him in costume dramas for the next ten years. I am begging. As a whole, Blossoms of Power is a drama carried more by its atmosphere, visuals, chemistry, and Xiao Huayong than by its writing. Story-wise, there's nothing particularly fresh, and the script leaves behind quite a few frustrating plot holes. But the chemistry between He Yu and Meng Ziyi is absolutely delicious, the production quality is stunning, and Xiao Huayong easily became one of my favorite green-flag male leads in costume dramas.

Blossom of POWER? It is.
So basically this drama is only about Blossoming of power. It's got its flaws.It visually pleasing.
The osts are amazing.
BUT, The story was a bit off. I had lot of hopes for this drama. And I was pretty happy with how it started but then it went downhill mid way.... and I wish the story was stronger. The twists were good but it wasn't politically strong.
Overall fine I guess.
But for me.... the ending was sweet but i'm sorry that didn't make sense. The ending should have been stronger. Well, I know it's based on the novel... but there should be some substance for him to just come back. And I think it was bit abrupt. Everything just happened, everyone just dies, the kid comes, becomes the king and then Crown prince appears and it ends with the special episode which was kinda cute to watch but again it his whole arrival part didn't make sense.
AND AGAIN THE OSTS WERE SOOO BEAUTIFUL. I LOVED THE OSTS ESPECIALLY THE ONE SUNG BY ZHOU SHEN AND THE OTHER ONE SUNG BY ZHANG
So yea, overall an 8 or an 8.5

Beautiful Until it Became Clunky
A body switch gave a woman the opportunity for power and revenge for her parents' deaths. She teamed up with the poisoned prince to wreak her havoc.The Good:
• The actors, sets, and costumes were beautiful.
• I enjoyed the poison plot twist, even though I had picked out the villain in advance. Once again, poor communication is a killer!
• The scene with Gu Zingshu presenting the amulet to Shen Xi He was satisfying.
The Bad:
• The FL is a Mary Sue with thick plot armor. Any other woman in her position would have been eliminated a million times over.
• The twist with the second Crown Prince was ridiculous.
• The FL's coldness to the ML became tiresome. It went on far too long.
• The ending was anticlimactic—a forced happy ending—and raised too many questions. Why had the doctor aged so rapidly? Why hadn't there been communication over the years? Why the heck did the writers make these choices?
• Just a small whine, but Gao Wei Guang needed more screen time.
I would have given a higher rating if the last episodes hadn't been farfetched and bathetic. It should have rated another half star, but it didn't stick the landing.

I really loved the ml's character and the love he has for fml.
I really admired the fml's character, very intelligent and head-strong but they could have done more with her character than what was presented, especially towards the end....they could have focused more on her and let go of the 5th prince's character/storyline(respectfully he should have been killed off earlier).
The pacing in the beginning was really good, not too politics heavy nor too much romance, it was balanced really well. But in the last few episodes, some plot points could have been moved up a few episodes as not to include everything at the end.
(I've heard that they stayed true to the novel, I can understand as to why somethings were excuted as is.)
Very happy they also gave us a special episode.
Overall: It was an great watch.

FORGET THE LITTLE DOWNSIDES, IT'S TOO GOOD TO PAY ATTENTION TO THEM!
Was hooked from the get go. I loved the FL and her elegant cold yet soft inside character. She is such an incredible beauty! I'm all for He Yu, my gosh such a sight for these old eyes. Here for him bc of "Speed and Love". Such a different character but still hot as hell. But even if he was ML, if the script and plot and acting don't get me, then I drop it no matter who or what. I've dropped dramas before even tho I am crazy about the actors bc the script or execution or direction didn't hook me. This wasn't any of that, I loved it all!! When she finally confessed I was beyond gone, it was so beautiful and his face was ecstatic. I didn't think I could move on from shipping He Yu and Esther Yu, but I did and I did without guilt.His struggle with this poison was very hard to watch, he made it look so real. She showed such aloofness but still cared about his burden.
One thing that confused me was that it was never revealed to anybody not even the Crown Prince, that she had another person inside her. ?? EXCEPT for Prince Qin when he was dying. As it should be.
WTH moment: I was very confused that she was having such attacks from the Consort and having to fight for her life and her "girls" so I kept expecting her father and brother to show up in force to rescue her. But they virtually disappeared from the drama after her confession.
I was excited about Jeremy Tsu being in this drama, but suddenly I was noticing the same facial expression and mannerisms that have followed him in drama after drama and it got annoying. Yes that is what made him famous especially his intense eyes, but an actor HAS to move on from that and develop other mannerism according to the character and plot. He made a good villain however and I was very glad when he died. His constant stalking and obsessive behavior became insufferable, but Jeremy Tsu being the good actor that he is, executed it perfectly.
Another WTH moment: The 2FL is supposed to be a man and yet the cold Prince falls in love or seems to be falling for him/her before he knew she was a she. His actions were so blatantly in love and yet NOBODY mentioned that it was two "men" acting all weird. I hated that they disappeared to run off to be together long before the ending. I loved Bu Shu Lin and wished they used her more, but I understand that she had to leave to be a woman. However, I really thought that since they found a replacement that she would keep acting as the replacement. But I guessed wrong.
3rd WTH moment: What was this coming back from the dead stunt at the end? Commenters have said that one has to watch the Special Episode to get what happened, but I still didn't get it. I will have to re-watch the final episode to see what I missed. I didn't understand HOW he came back and where was he all this time? Very frustrating. BUT I still cried when she saw him standing under the tree. It was a bit strange that she just took it for granted that he had returned after 4 years. BUT, It still was a touching moment.
Special Mentions: His death scene. I was so sure that they would rescue him and give him acupuncture or whatever, I was already tearing up though. Then when I fully realized that he really did die lying beside her and she stayed with him in that snow, I lost it. I cried so long and hard I gave myself a headache.
Her dream of him and her and their little boy all together. At first I was confused, thought she was imagining him but the little boy acknowledged him and I thought then that it had to be a dream and it was and I got choked up over that.
When Bai Chen was writing out all the things for each year he knew he wouldn't be around for to teach his son. (I'm choking up just remembering this) Then his Mother reading them to him later.

Tian Yuan's fierce love and loyalty for his Crown Prince. His crying over his condition, his death and then when he got the handkerchief, the joy. I loved this kid and his character. I hope to see him more. Maybe as a ML one day. His acting is up to par for that.
I loved watching the back story of the Emperor and how he became his Father and finally WHO actually poisoned him. I thought it was sad that it turned out to be the Empress Dowager who seemed to have loved him. Retribution of her going mad when she realized she killed her biological grandson, was a good scene.
In the end, I give this a 9, bc to me Pursuit of Jade, which I gave a 10, is still the best for 2026. thus I can't give other dramas a higher score than 9. It ranks up there though as being another great power drama!
