Love’s Ambition: Come for Zhao Lu Si & William Chan’s Sparks, Stay for the Feels
Love’s Ambition – the drama I’ve been side-eyeing the calendar for ever since I finished re-watching The Best Thing for the third time. I basically squealed when the first teaser dropped, because Zhao Lu Si + William Chan in suits? Sign me up, take my weekends, and hand me the snacks. So, did it live up to the hype? Mostly YES, with a few “girl, why?” moments.
THE GOOD STUFF
Acting: Our girl Zhao Lu Si can cry in the rain and still make you laugh two seconds later...witchcraft, I swear. William Chan’s micro-expressions? I paused more than once just to admire how his eyes do half the talking.
Chemistry: They could set off a smoke detector. Every time they did that thing where they stare at each other two seconds too long, I kicked my blanket like a middle-schooler passing notes in class.
Feels on feels: I went from “aww” to “I need chocolate” in a single episode. The angst isn’t just sprinkled on; it’s a full sundae with extra cherries of heartbreak.
THE “I HIT FAST-FORWARD” BITS
Board-room blah: Every time the camera cut to yet another power-point presentation about stock prices, I morphed into a human remote control. I came for romance, not quarterly earnings.
Kiss rationing: They gave us one proper kiss and then acted like we’d faint if we got two. Writers, we’re adults, we can handle a little more sugar!
Plot loose threads: Remember the tiny human Chen Chen? FL literally claims him as her mini-me, risks her career, and then… poof? Final episode shows love-birds eating breakfast in their swanky duplex, kid-free. There’s ONE Polaroid of the three of them in the FL's photobook. Um, shouldn’t the new little family be building Lego castles together instead of ghosting the poor boy?
RANDOM THINGS I LOVED ANYWAY
Zhao Lu Si’s wardrobe, every coat she wore is now living rent-free in my online shopping cart.
Second-lead couple: short screen time, maximum squeals. Give them their own spin-off, you cowards!
OST ear-worms: I caught myself humming the theme song in the grocery line.
Bottom line: Love’s Ambition is like that friend who shows up late to brunch but brings the best gossip; messy, fabulous, and impossible to ignore. If you adored The Best Thing’s modern vibe, this one scratches a similar itch, just with more spreadsheets and fewer kisses than we ordered. Stream it for the leads’ fireworks, stay for Zhao Lu Si’s crying-in-the-rain mascara (waterproof queen). And maybe keep a finger on that fast-forward button during the shareholder meetings, you’ll still leave happy-crying into your ramen.

The best story line!!
I’m glad I waited for all the episodes to drop before watching it because, for real, it was a hit! I stayed up until 3 a.m. for three consecutive days just to finish this drama. It’s definitely worth the hype. For a drama that had no promotions, it’s truly the “drama of the year.” Both William Chan and Zhao Lusi played their roles so well. I also have to say that the entire cast gave it their all, every single role, no matter how small, was executed perfectly. This one’s definitely a rewatch for me! This is best modern day mature drama ever!!! The chemistry was giving!! The intimate scenes, the conversations.. everything was givinggggg🔥🔥🔥🤌🏾🤌🏾Was this review helpful to you?
I Love Female Lead’s personality
In fact, the audience is very simple, the most pure, if the drama is good, they will say it is good and keep following it, if it is not good, they will complain and abandon the drama, and this drama is really good, whether it is the crew's polishing of the plot or the actors' delicate attention to details, each character's personality is very distinct, and the expression is also real. The audience really doesn't want to miss a frame, well personally i love thisWas this review helpful to you?
I am biased
101 days of filming and over a year of post-production 🪴zhao lusi was already preparing for your role even before stepping into the love's ambition filming team
all that work, for a broadcast period
that lasted less than three weeks
it was her first time playing a married woman and in that short span, she showed us the full range; from an unloved 18-year-old girl to a woman putting on a carefully constructed facade
in order to marry into elite circles and later, transforming into an ambitious entrepreneur who dared to carve out her own journey
she was once worried that xu yan might be misunderstood and criticised but she carried the responsibility of telling her story with honesty & care. zhao lusi hoped that xu yan would be seen, felt, and accepted as fully human and she succeeded
she has brought complexity, grace, and empathy to a character who simply wanted to survive. a woman who had to remain composed even when holding back storms within
she mastered the delicate control needed from the smallest flicker of emotion to the restraint in your expressions as xu yan kept her secrets buried beneath the surface.
she always speaks about being grateful
when people notice her growth but it's impossible not to ♡
we saw the effort she poured into every detail, from coordinating her outfits
to sourcing her own accessories, paying tribute to intangible cultural heritage
in a way that felt seamless and sincere. her delivery was precise and powerful, with clear diction, emotional rhythm,
and pauses that held the weight of the unspoken
I'm grateful that she was surrounded by a filming team who shared the same vision, a director who fully trusted her, supportive and dedicated co-stars and many old friends who reunited to create this masterpiece
may this beautiful autumn memory
stay with you and with us, for a long, long time

It's a ride that'll make you learn plenty.
*I honestly don't know how to write a review, and how to put into words what I truly feel about this drama. But here it goes.At first, I was doubtful wether I should watch this drama or not, considering that it isn't what I usually watch. But when I jumped in the first few episodes, I couldn't stop myself from watching anymore— this is what I've been looking for, the type of drama that will have you looking back, and would want to watch it again as if the first time.
The way the plot and the characters are written is very detailed leaving no hole. The acting was top notch. Each character's personality was portrayed clearly— showing maturity and development among their selves. The chemistry of the main leads is a chef's kiss. This drama will have you fully grasped— making you feel every emotion, will deceive you, will make you cry, and will make you feel as if you're riding the same journey as them, witnessing their growth as a person, and will teach you lessons in life throughout the ride. It's a lovely drama that will actually show you reality, no cliches in romance, just people learning the meaning of love while finding their true selves and focusing in their own careers all while helping each other.
It's pace is just right, not too slow, and not to abrupt. Letting the viewers ride in the journey of the characters and witnessing them fall in love and deceive each other, and their walk to reflection and change as individuals. It will have you at the edge of your seat, anxious on how the truth will rise. And the twists will leave your eyes wide open. It's very interesting getting to know each character and what they have up on their sleeves. I love the way the drama was sequenced, it doesn't put every information or event in that person's life all at once, but by bits and pieces, which will make you learn more about them, and empathize with them.
The drama was written beautifully and justified with the execution. Everything is in harmony, there was no too much or too less. The exposure of each character was balanced, it didn't only focus on their story but as well as the people around them, who were also a big part of their journey. The actors went all in to their roles which made the drama extraordinary. It will make you look forward to every next episode, and will leave you hanging for more. It's a must watch.

Important lesson
I learned an important lesson from this drama especially from female leadOur Xu Yan possesses her own positive energy and courage that allow her to face all the hardships, eventually becoming a person capable of setting sail
Although Xu Yan could have been quite the extremist, she ultimately still faced her inner true self. She was able to make a breakthrough and have an independent mindset & personality. That's what's the most important in women or individuals in the modern day.

For those who love urban drama romance
The rhythm of this drama is good, it uses flashbacks and interpolations. It's not a straightforward narrative for the story of the first half , after all the hardships, is a testament to this. There are virtually no supporting characters in the early stages, and the characterization of the male and female leads is very well-placed. The female lead has the most scenes, and many scenes showcase her strong learning and execution skills, as well as her adaptability. She reacts quickly every time she's nearly exposed, making her a clearly positive character. The male lead is a leader, older and well-endowed, and it's foreshadowed that while he's the son of a wealthy family, he doesn't actually hold any power. Besides his affection (which she needs emotionally), his problem-solving skills are crucial to her (the most important aspect of a mature man). I can't wait to see the scene after the female lead's figure is exposed.

A dazzling character
Zhao Lusi's acting skills have become much more delicateA woman who is ambitious to climb up the social ladder is not happy with material things nor sad with herself. That kind of calmness and composure immediately makes the character stand out.
William Chan is so handsome! I love him with glasses the most. It's like reminiscing about an ex, and he looks so sexy. The two of them create a subtle atmosphere. On the surface, they're a good match—he's handsome, she's beautiful—but in reality, each of them has their own agenda! I'm so excited for this drama! Tencent was smart to bring it to the rescue! Zhao Lusi has also reached a new level of beauty. She even appears makeup-free in the drama, dispelling rumors of plastic surgery! Honestly, I never believed she had plastic surgery. I've been following her since junior high and am a longtime fan of William Chan. I never dreamed they'd work together!

This wasn't just a drama I watched, it was an experience I lived.
From the very first episode, it captivated me with its impeccable production, but what really hooked me was the emotional depth of its story. The reason for my obsession with this series has a name: Zhao Lusi. Her portrayal of the protagonist is simply masterful. Not only does she wear incredible outfits that reflect her character's evolution, but she also manages to convey a vulnerability and strength that touches your soul. Her character is that girl who only wanted one thing: to be loved. Throughout her life, she shaped her personality, her actions, and her dreams to fit in and please others, believing that this would help her find her place in the world.
The moment she discovers that her entire love life has been built on a lie is a heartbreaking turning point. Seeing her suffer and fall apart was so real that I couldn't help but suffer with her. But it is precisely in this low point that she finds the strength for the most important thing: to reinvent herself. Her journey is not only about healing, but about building an authentic identity from scratch, for herself and not for others.
There is no teenage love filled with unnecessary drama here. What blossoms between the two characters is a love that, despite the lies, becomes mature, conscious, and healing. In the end, he doesn't come to "save" her, but to support her, understand her, and walk beside her as an equal. It's a relationship built on wounds, second chances, human errors, selfishness, patience, and a deep emotional connection.
The cast's performance is outstanding overall, with each character contributing to and enriching the plot. The locations are like another character, beautiful and full of meaning, perfectly complementing the protagonist's emotional journey.

Starting is a little boring.
“Love’s Ambition” is a story about several people — the female protagonist, her sister, her sister’s ex and current partners, the male protagonist, and his family.Xu Yan, the female protagonist, has struggled a lot since her childhood. Her parents never praised her for anything, and she always felt that they loved her elder sister, Qiao Lin, more than her.
At one point, Xu Yan wanted to study further and go to college, but her father refused. She began to feel suffocated in her parents’ house, so one day she ran away to her grandmother’s home and decided never to return. Since then, she has struggled a lot to secure her position at work.
During that time, she met a man who gave her the warmth she had been longing for. They fell in love, but she hid her true identity because he and his family belonged to a higher social class and expected a wife and daughter-in-law of the same standard. She endured all the humiliation given by her future in-laws but eventually succeeded. In the end, she finally got the life she had longed for.
Meanwhile, her sister faced her own struggles. Tired of the expectations of her fiancé’s parents and her own, she ran away to her younger sister’s place, where she finally found the life she had always dreamed of.
The male protagonist is somewhat arrogant and believes that money can solve everything. This is just a small glimpse into the main characters’ lives in the story.
I didn’t like the story at first — it felt dull until the elder sister entered the picture. Before her, the plot was quite boring, and I was fed up with the female protagonist’s attitude and acting. However, her sister’s character was cheerful and carefree, and I really liked the man she was paired with. I thought something good might come from their story, and after their divorce, the drama finally became more interesting and stayed engaging until the end.

Not feeling it!
I just knew I wasn't going to like it, especially since the leads had zero chemistry. If there had been even a spark of a connection, I might have stuck with it, but without that, there was no reason to stay!
I am very quick to drop a drama, or anything, really. I don’t believe in forcing myself to sit through something; if it’s truly good, I shouldn't have to. Usually, if I don’t find the plot interesting (or if there’s no plot at all, which unfortunately happens a lot in C-dramas), I can only force myself to stay if the leads’ chemistry is really good. Otherwise, it's buh-bye! 👋🏻✌🏻
