Cute at it core

The story was just ok, the rewatch value is only once for me, the writers could have done much more with the characters and the story. Some of the characters that was introduced early on just faded away without explanation like the bullies. I thought the writers would have given the viewers more animals characters instead just the penguin and black panther. Love the side characters that was introduced that help our main couple. There were some dark moments in this series that explore the trafficking of animals that was the core of this series.

There are many BL series being released in Thailand now, this one is not one you need to prioritize

It is a Thai BL series with a very strange story. The absurdity of a panther and a penguin from the zoo turning into two human boys in high school who also fall in love with each other. Also with action elements when they are hunted by some trafficking guys/hunters and then some invisible goddess who helps them.. it's just a bit too much and so many unexplained gaps in the story.

The two main characters do their best though and the chemistry between them is good, we will definitely see more of them later on. The series has some cute romantic scenes and is one of the most innocent BL series that Thailand has produced in recent years, no nude scenes and no jealousy dramas at all. But no, I'm sorry but this one doesn't even reach an average rating for me.

A Recipe of Randomness

While I did find the series to be entertaining, there were a lot of things that were happening. You have got to keep count on how many arcs present and time skips there was---especially in the end.

The main premise of the series was brilliant and unique! It is rare to see this type of genre played in the BL scene. However, the execution felt a bit lacking. Some scenes felt rushed, and some were too out of place, and some would be even better without them. We are watching a BL series, not an action series.

The whole ride felt like trying to sew pages of a manuscript that was blown by the wind. That was the main problem I had with the series, especially it only having 10 episodes in total. It would be understandable, or even better if it was a series with 20 or so episodes. Fitting it all in 10 does not really do justice to the plot.

In the visual FX aspect, they did okay. It is hard to have a higher budget on the animals, but given the circumstances, it was good but not great. On the other hand, the pairing of Ju and Sun was great! They had their chemistry, and their acting was on point. You love how quirky and Ju is, and the seriousness of Sun does not feel forced.

There are scenes I would love to see removed or changed, but I also understand why they were there in the first place.

Overall, a good series to watch when you're bored or when you have no more to watch.

This show is mid, but very unique.

This is the most original show I've ever seen! Who would think to write a romance between a panther and penguin? Junior was extremely cute, but Sun was dry for most of the series. I would give the acting a C grade. It didn't have any emotional impact in my opinion, but it wasn't horrible. When Sun died, Junior's reaction was flat. The cuts were choppy, and the kiss scenes were awkward. I didn't like that their faces stayed in one position every time they kissed, and they never paused to breathe. It was very unnatural. Overall, Caged Again is a strange yet pleasant watch. I would recommend it to someone who's bored.

This drama had me in mind as the target audience.

This drama had me in mind as the target audience.
That's why I was waiting for it to finish airing to dive into the story.
The show didn't quite meet the expectations, as it had many shortcomings, but it remained fun.

The premises are refreshing, and I couldn't ask for anything more. I enjoy stories with fantasy backgrounds, but I admit that the genre per se has not come up with new ideas in a while. So, both leads becoming human after spending their lives in a zoo cage was so much fun! Of course, all the small details that show how they were not human before are clever and entertaining.
Even the fact that Sun was a black panther and Junior a penguin was such a nice touch: how could they possibly get close to each other without letting nature do its course? I have to admit that the screenwriters did a nice job portraying this aspect.

What I didn't like were the many shortcomings that showed up throughout the story. Without getting too deep, I must say that the romance between leads didn't seem to grow naturally, as it started in a slow-burn kind of way and skyrocketed in the middle of the show.
Also, at some point, I felt screenwriters just focused on minor parts of the plot and opened Pandora's box of plots that were not addressed in the end, just to be abandoned when time began to shrink. The viewer simply can't get things sorted in their head due to the amount of pieces of information and loose ends thrown at their face.

As for me, I enjoyed the drama despite its problems, but I think I went in with high expectations that could not have been met in the first place.

PROS:

- Cute and emotional
- I loved the premises: such a refreshing and much-appreciated background
- The Mole Goddess was such a mood for me

CONS:

- The plot could have been executed better
- PLOT HOLES EVERYWHERE > Too many loose ends that were just abandoned midway
- The VFX department felt a bit cheap, but the drama wasn't high-budget

A sweet story light and simple

Mostly held up by endearing portrayal of the penguin and panther dynamic. This isn't a very elaborate story but overall the characters are engaging, and the married couple is a sweet portrayal of marital normality. The female characters in particular are for a change strong and admirable rather than being cardboard girls. I could relate to them. It's entertainment at its simplest done well enough.

I really liked this. Both Junior and Sun were super green-flag — no major consent / boundary issues to be found. The overall plot was a unique and kind of niche premise, but I really enjoyed it. I think the script, acting, and pacing were all on point. And I really appreciate having so much of the final dedicated to showcasing a happy ever after.

I really liked that the leads were equals. A lot of the time when you have a masculine lead and an effeminate lead, BLs will turn that into dom / sub dynamics, but that’s not at all the case here. Junior isn’t submissive or reluctant just because he’s effeminate and Sun isn’t domineering or aggressive just because he’s masculine. There’s no dynamic where one is expected to take the lead or be the one pursuing.

My main complaint in terms of the romance is just that I felt that Sun was in deeper than Junior. To the end, Sun’s only wish was to be with Junior. But for a long time, Junior wasn’t even committed to staying human, even when he was asking Sun to be his boyfriend. He never explicitly states that he’s committed to staying human by the end of the story either, and I have to wonder if he’s going to change his mind one day. Although he’s still human when they flash forward 4 years so maybe that’s a concern that’s meant to be implicitly addressed. And when Sun disappeared, Junior waited for him and mourned him, but he decided to move on and talked about his future plans, including getting married, while saying goodbye to Sun after 5 months. That’s a realistic, healthy response to losing a loved one, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t help but feel that Sun wouldn’t have been so open to the idea of finding someone else if the roles were reversed. And when Sun came back, he said he loved Junior, but Junior didn’t say the same back in the moment (he does in the 4 year flash forward). Junior has dreams for his life, but Sun’s only dream is Junior. So Sun’s world ends up revolving around Junior, while Junior’s doesn’t necessarily revolve around Sun, even if he cares about him deeply. I can’t help but feel that the dynamic is imbalanced as a result.

I think the reason a lot of the dynamics in this story work is because it’s set in high school. So the naive, innocent thing makes sense and works. Junior was kind of babyish, but he’s meant to be young and the actor also looks very young, so it’s not out of place. Kids making stupid but well meaning choices works. And them not having complete control over their lives makes sense. But at the same time, it ended up feeling like a high school romance as a result. Meaning, I didn’t really feel the permanence in their relationship, just got told to believe in it by the 4 year flash forward. But that’s a personal gripe, and I think the way they chose to write the romance was probably the best choice. A more mature romance would have undercut the high school dynamic.

In terms of the plot line, there were a few minor questions that weren’t well answered. When Sun disappeared, they say he was found by Ton and Nat, but why was he missing for 5 months? If he was with them, then he or they should have let someone know about his whereabouts. And Junior talked a lot about turning back into a penguin to be with his brother Little, but he seemingly forgets about him entirely because after a certain point, he’s never mentioned again. Same with Nam — he caused tons of issues and then seemingly disappeared and was never mentioned again.

If I’m nitpicking, the CGI was pretty awful and I would have liked to see more of their animal traits in their human forms. As it is, we only see that Sun is very strong and Junior is good at swimming. And I would have liked to see them struggle more to adapt to human life. It’s said that Junior could understand human language already, and probably could read it, but speaking and writing are different and he had no issues. He had no issues walking or even running as a human, no issues with fine motor skills like holding a pen or fork, and there weren’t even issues raised with him suddenly doing high school level schoolwork with no prior basis.

Like I said, this is very green flag, so there are no major consent / boundary issues. If I’m nitpicking, there’s a scene where Sun lies and says a classmate is still awake when he’s not so that he can stay cuddled up to Junior while they wait. And there’s one scene where Junior gives Sun catnip while he’s sleeping, and based on his reaction when waking up, it acted like a bit of a drug and shouldn’t have been given without prior discussion / consent, and certainly not when unconscious.

The physical affection is appropriate to the high school setting. Only meaningful kisses (but proper kisses, no lip presses) — nothing gratuitous and no NC scenes. There is an implied sex scene where they’re in bed after. It didn’t end up feeling overly chaste or sanitized, and I think anything more than that would have been uncomfortable anyways, given that the characters are teenagers that actually act like teenagers, and while I believe the actors were legal, they were still very young and look it.

Caged Again — Cute Premise, Strange Execution, Sweet Enough to Finish

So I just finished Caged Again, and honestly… it was weird. Like, conceptually adorable in the promo – a penguin turning into a human? That’s bonkers! But watching the whole thing made me feel like I was in a sitcom mash-up of fantasy school life and random filler scenes that never quite understood what it wanted to be. It FEELS cute at first, but by episode 3 you start going… what even is this?

The story starts with Junior, who literally used to be a penguin in a zoo and somehow becomes human and enrolls in school without explosion or trauma. That premise keeps it interesting for the first few episodes, and some moments are genuinely funny, even delightfully absurd. There’s creative worldbuilding hints too — like spirits, animal instincts, and strange supernatural threads — but 80% of the time the script just meanders. It never commits to tension or emotional depth, just floats around side plots and school antics that could have been so much more.

And that’s where my rating reflects the weird dissonance. The acting is good, genuinely. Jay and Ben infuse Junior and Sun with sweetness and awkward charm. Online communities were actually surprised by how strong the chemistry is between them, even if the plot struggles to support it — people on Reddit praised the pairing and said the chemistry was “on point” with moments that made them laugh or feel strangely invested. Their dynamic is easily the best part; the actors bring heart where the story sometimes forgets to.

But the story itself? It feels like someone took eight hours of random school comedy, some supernatural elements, and threw it all together without a destination. Scenes drag, subplots stall, and the romance between Junior and Sun barely goes beyond pleasant “aww” moments. People online who actually loved the show call it “adorable,” “fun,” and “unique,” but I also saw plenty of reactions saying the script feels shallow and the final episodes feel rushed compared to the earlier promise.

The music does its job — atmospheric, gentle, nothing ground-shaking — and the production values are polished, but honestly the soundtrack left me shrugging. Not bad, just not memorable either.

My big issue is this: the story could have been interesting if it went deeper into the fantasy aspects, into the emotional identity of Junior and Sun rather than side tangent after side tangent. There are moments where the show touches on something deeper – identity, belonging, confusion about love – but it never fully explores any of them. That’s why the rewatch value is so low for me; there’s nothing layered enough under the surface to discover a second time.

So yeah, it’s not terrible. I don’t hate it. It’s cute, and watching it in one sitting definitely helps you stay connected. But it feels like a concept without enough follow-through. I finished it more amused than invested, and that’s not enough for me to want to rewatch it.

If you like weird fantasy BL that’s more fluffy than emotionally deep, and you don’t mind silliness mixed with sweetness, it’s worth a try. But don’t expect something that will sit in your head for weeks after.

Cute, Funny, Soft Show

I really liked this show, it had its funny aspects, sad aspects, and romantic aspects. Everything plays well, it's a very non-serious show but at the same time somewhat serious? I really like the whole story and how each episode has its little funny moments and it's not constantly depressing or serious all the time. Its definitely something worth watching if you just want something very chill, the plot wasn't crazy and it had its flaws, main flaw about the story that I just kept thinking about almost every episode was how Junior (Penguin) didn't feel hot like constantly, I mean he seemed to grow up in a cold environment so normally he would be used to the cold and be bothered by the heat, which is what we saw in the beginning, but afterwards he kind of just was ok with the heat and instead would feel cold at times too. Maybe he's one of those penguins that can adapt to different climates and adapted to the hot weather making him more prone to getting cold and feeling cold, but idk much about penguins, its just a silly thought that kept racing around my mind each episode. Anyway, I rate this show a 8.5/10 super quick fun watch, for once in a while I didn't feel like skipping through and watched till the end.

"i want to be alone with you"

i click this because i thought this gonna be cute fluffy and make me smiling on entire episode (which is yes) but i dont expect those dark twisted humour, being betrayed by their friend is one thing or bullying but fucking ilegal wildlife trade on plot, and my baby getting hurt because of his zookeeper who he adore so much is pain me.

this series is toooo realistic for series with fantasy tag. like i've seen a lot of people who after being judge their wrongdoing but instead reflec they start bullying and those i want to slap him at least for once. nam arc will always make my head hurt, but then the zookeeper arc, damn this show is just show how much worse a human than an animal or even a ghost, i dont understand what his point like his bf always want to give up the idea of doing those ilegal bussiness but yeah he's not listening.

i love jodd and jeng. too. they really cutest duo alive, and when jeng get out from that freaky club, JENG THE MAN YOU ARE ( sorry i really love nerd boy), and jodd who doing his tt because he doesnt want his parent worried, he such a cutie. and another freaky couple who lived near that forest is like cherry on top, i love they actually had daughter in the end, and the teacher who can wear anything she want in the end tooo, like girl you slayeeddd, and school keeper who can find her happiness in her new realtionship, oh my god i love they actually had their happy ending

this is series has a good plot while there some missing one or two, especially with the audio or some awkward camera angel or those imagination of both main charater that go wild, like it kinda turns me off and just skip it for most of episode. but it worth it when you bored and want something new

Definitely worth watching

I have seen so many shows with a unique premise that just abaddon it within the first couple of episodes, but not this show.

They actually use the premise throughout the show, sure sometimes there is less focus on it, but it's never ignored and always has some relevance to what's going on.

Caged again is about two zoo animals (a penguin and a panther) who both end up becoming humans. They both have different views on what it means to be human and free. Since Son (the panther) has been human longer, he has seen a lot more of the bad things humans can do, and therefore tries to protect Junior (the penguin) from getting his bubble burst and seeing how bad some people can be.
This leads Son to hide things from Junior that he definitely should have told him, both for the sake of honesty but also for the sake of safety. Even though he did it with good intentions, it is not okay to hide the fact that they are in danger from someone, but no-one can be perfect, especially when they are new to the whole friends thing.

Son and Junior's cemetery is so good.
The acters did an amazing job portraying their emotions and feelings for each other. The way they look at each other with so much love in their eyes and how they protect and care for each other feels so genuine.

Jodd and Jeng were so sweet.
You can see how comfortable they feel around each other. Just being around the other made them feel at ease, without needing to say a whole lot.
I wish we could have seen more of an actual relationship between them, and not just "friendship". I don't get why they didn't make them an actual couple earlier when they so clearly were ready for it.

Ton and Nat are iconic.
Like what do you mean they have a happy relationship with mutual understanding and respect for each other? What do you mean they don't play into any stereotypical gender roles? What do you mean they wear animal costumes and roleplay in the forest?
It's just iconic behaviour.

I was kinda annoyed that the outro is just white text on a black background, because the song is a banger, and it's annoying not having anything interesting to look at while listening to the outro.

If you are looking a show with happy and healthy relationships between both teenagers and adults with no toxic gender norms or stupid misunderstandings, then you have come to the right place.

Plot is a little weird but hear me out….

If you had to do a double take at this synopsis, don’t worry. You read it completely right: This plot is wack.

Silly plot aside, there are some profoundly existential scenes and dialogues questioning the meaning of ‘being human’ and what constitutes an existence worth living. I started watching this series for the hell of it but one episode turned into two, and then four and five, and before I knew it, the entire series had come and gone.

The relationship between Junior and Sun develops organically and at its own pace over several episodes without rushing into anything. As they navigate the world in their human forms, their attraction towards each other is obvious but largely unspoken, paving the way for an innocent and sweet teenage relationship.

The editing of the series could have been a little tighter. Some parts of the story felt disjointed and there are many random plot holes in this quirky storyline. But its quirkiness is also what makes the storyline so memorable.
