What a cracker!

I wasn't expecting much from this shorter C-Drama. I went into it expecting light entertainment and not much else. But what I got? Holy crap! It was a masterpiece.

I don't think I have ever actually been so invested in a milk money theft plot. I have seen them in so many dramas, but the way Yin Rui played it, her acting was phenomenal. I actually cried with her, I felt her pain, her anguish, through all of the drama. She is an amazing actress. I hope she gets more roles where she can showcase this.

The plot was confusing at times near the beginning. I couldn't understand why he wasn't able to find out what happened to her. Like, surely there were news articles, etc. But I soon forgot about that and got completely swept into the mystery.

I feel like this show will get underrated because of it being a little bit different from the norms of these types of dramas. But if people give it a chance, it's a real gem of a show. The only reason I didn't vote it 10/10 (I voted 9.5) was because I would have liked at least one more episode to spend time with the leads at the end. But, apart from that, I love everything about it.

Beautiful

One word that describes this drama is beautiful. From the story, the scenery, the filming angle, to the acting. Everything tied together so perfectly at the end. 35 mins per episode, only 22 episodes. Give it a try, you will not regret it. Also, Huang Junjie acting is just top notch. So natural and subtle in his acting. He is also super beautiful and dreamy playing 3 roles.

This show isn’t flawless, but it’s perfect for me.

It’s the kind of story that doesn’t march from beginning to end, but opens itself from all directions, letting moments and truths surface until they meet at one point.
It carries a bittersweet soul, but the bitter stands bold. Even in the lightest scenes, there’s a shadow, a sadness that lingers no matter how much the characters laugh.

Everyone here has their own path, their own choices, regrets, and mistakes. There are no pure heroes, no clear villains. They’re just human, too young to know if what they’ve done is forgivable and old enough to be responsible for their own actions.

Zhen Zhen is not the type of female lead I usually enjoy. In her shoes, I would have chosen differently every single time. But I understood her. I felt her pain so clearly it almost bled through the screen. Yin Rui gave her such depth that there were moments I wanted to step inside the story just to hold her for a moment, to let her breathe.

Jiang Ling, too, isn’t my usual favorite type, the cold kind who gradually warms. But he’s more than that. Literature runs in his blood; books and words shape him. Watching that part of him was a quiet joy, especially when you catch the little foreshadowings hidden there. He cared for Zhen Zhen in his own way, guarded their friendship, and carried his own grief. She became the color in his grey world, even while hers remained grey. And when we see his perspective, poetic, precise, remembering the smallest things about her; it gives their bond an even richer shade.

Gu Ming is the class president everyone likes, but beneath that smile is a tangle of pain that pushes him toward choices you can’t quite call right.
Qiu Qian is another one, in another drama I’d call her a villain without hesitation. She’s done so much wrong it feels strange to pity her, yet I do. She’s just a young girl trying to survive, and the show redeems her in such a quiet way I didn’t even notice it happening.
Qi Shuo is similar, his actions almost unforgivable, yet I can’t see him as purely bad, just another victim of what adults can do to the young.

The friendship between them felt whole and warm, which made watching it fall apart all the more painful, even though you can sense from the start that it will. Seeing their adult selves, still carrying the weight of lost youth and unrealized dreams, adds another layer of ache.

The two timelines run side by side: older Jiang Ling speaking to a Zhen Zhen who never made it past high school. That alone brings a somber note, as if the story is reminding you again and again that their happiness is fleeting. In both timelines, joy never seems to stay.

This is not a love story, but the bond between Jiang Ling and Zhen Zhen is tender, innocent, and threaded with a quiet ache. Every little interaction between them is soft, even sweet, yet there’s always the bitter aftertaste. I’ll think of them every time I eat noodles now, noodles that marked a beginning, a journey, and in a way, an answer.

It’s also worth praising the cinematography and the camera angles, the way the camera lingers just long enough to let the emotions breathe. The styling was especially well done for older Jiang. The opening and ending songs fit beautifully, even if the background music within the episodes could have been stronger. The ending felt right. Not the overused kind of time travel resolution, but one that suited the tone and left me satisfied, even in its melancholy.

It may not be flawless, but Fell Upon Me is the kind of story that stays with you , lingering, like a dream you can’t return to. I would absolutely recommend it.

Heartbreaking, Brilliant, and Criminally Underrated

Damn, this drama ate. The storyline is so sad — especially An Zhen Zhen’s story. She might just be a character in Jiang Lin's novel (maybe, because that’s what the drama is about), but she feels so real. Honestly, she’s probably the most stressed female lead I’ve ever seen. Imagine going through all those miserable events in her life… her storyline hit me hard. It even made me cry.

This is the first time I’ve loved this kind of FL. Normally, in some dramas, I’d be yelling at my screen like, “Kill that b!tch!” — but here, I didn’t feel that way at all. I felt like I was her. I can’t explain it, but I love this kind of concept.

It did confuse me in the middle episodes, but once I finished it, everything made sense. At first, I thought it would just be a normal sci-fi youth drama because of the poster… but nope. The poster was a prank, hahaha. This was stressful to watch, but in the best way.

Finally, a drama that explains the life of a side character. And the fact that it’s villain-free made it even more interesting. YR and HJJ absolutely killed their roles — they’re so underrated it hurts. This drama deserves way more recognition.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR Y’ALL. You’ll definitely love this.

I absolutely loved this story — not just for the romance, but for the way it played with fate, time, and love’s persistence.
• The setup: An Zhenzhen (FL) in 2012 mysteriously connects by phone to “Old Jiang” from the future (2024). They communicate across time, trying desperately to change her fate. Every time they try, something shifts — but not exactly how they planned. The future keeps rewriting itself, showing how fragile and uncertain destiny can be.
• The accident: In her timeline, An Zhenzhen gets hit by the monitor’s car (after scattering her manuscript pages). She falls into a coma, doctors unsure if she’ll ever wake.
• The coma and dream world: While unconscious, she drifts between “dream timelines” — crossing with the ML, caught between past and future. This is why it sometimes feels like she’s alive in the future: her subconscious is blending Jiang Ling’s memories, her own hopes, and the story he creates.
• ML’s devotion: Jiang Ling doesn’t give up. He collects her scattered manuscript, rewrites it into a novel filled with their bond, and reads it aloud to her over and over. His writing becomes more than words — it’s a bridge, an emotional anchor pulling her back. It symbolizes rewriting not just a book, but rewriting her destiny.
• Why she wakes: Doctors say coma patients can sometimes respond to strong emotional stimuli. For An Zhenzhen, Jiang Ling’s story — full of love, memories, and persistence — becomes that spark. It reaches her subconscious and guides her back.
• The ending:
• She finally wakes after three months.
• At her bedside is the published novel, containing her own handwriting and Jiang Ling’s devotion.
• A memento in the book triggers her memories.
• She walks outside after recovery and sees Jiang Ling waiting. They smile at each other as doves fly overhead — a symbol of rebirth, peace, and a second chance.

✨ Why I love it:
• It’s not just about fate and tragedy — it’s about how love can fight through time, distance, and even unconsciousness.
• The phone calls between past and future gave it suspense, but the coma twist made it deeply emotional.
• In the end, it wasn’t magic or destiny that saved her — it was his faith, words, and love. He rewrote her story so she could come back, and she did.

"The world is not as perfect as i imagined it to be, its cruel and harsh but I accept it"

This drama was made with immense love and care—you can feel it in every frame. It’s layered, emotional, and ambitious, yet never loses its heart.

📚 Why did it feel so rich?
Because of the books!
Ulysses, In Search of Lost Things, Remembrance of Things Past

—so many literary references, so many thoughtful quotes!
The writer clearly treasures books, and that love poured into the story!
It reminded me of the richness of Romance Is a Bonus Book!

🎶 Did the OST, lighting, and cinematography matter?
Yes, so much! The OST added urgency and mystery, the lighting set the perfect mood, and the cinematography created a quiet magic! Not a single scene felt wasted!

✍️ What about the storytelling?
It dared to be different! It didn’t sugarcoat life—futures were uncertain, and not everyone got a happy ending! That honesty gave the story weight!

And the choice of writing as a career? Shown raw and painfully true! Writers, like painters, often remain unrecognized—their art judged not by worth but by the audience’s mood and willingness to pay. Such honesty is rare in bubbly C-dramas, and it gave this one a realistic edge!

🏐 Any memorable moments?
Yes! The Zhenzhen and Qui Quan volleyball game—so simple, yet unforgettable!
And episode 21? The personality switch between the monitor and Qi Shu had me laughing so hard! 😂😂
(P.S. I adored episodes 21–22 overall, and Jiangling with freckles >>> too cute!)

⚖️ Was it too heavy?
Not at all! Despite the sadness, it never drowned in misery. It knew when to stay simple and when to make us laugh. I loved that balance—because sometimes I don’t want a drama that drags me into endless tears!

❌ Any flaws?
If we ignore ep21/22(china rules~~~) ; Yes, some questions never got answers! What did her dreams mean? And his? Why did their phone call begin? What was with that strange basement machine? Why didn’t he remember? Why was everyone around old Jiangling acting so strangely?

Not all puzzle pieces fit, but maybe many were premonitions for episode 22! Even so, the drama stayed beautiful. It wasn’t that long, so I didn’t expect every thread to resolve perfectly.

🌌 Did it still make sense?
In its own way, yes!

He wasn’t originally part of her story—yet he inserted himself into it.
His feelings about seeing the protagonist and not knowing what to say (so as not to disturb the flow) made sense once you saw it that way.

Like many time-travel or supernatural C-dramas (Day of Becoming You, for example), it leaned toward a realistic yet ambiguous ending—sometimes frustrating, sometimes refreshing. But in its own way, it felt more real!

🎭 How about the cast?
Phenomenal! I hadn’t seen any of them before, yet none felt like beginners. Every character carried silent stories in their eyes. Teacher Liu especially—her gaze alone spoke louder than words!

🌸 And the female lead?
A complete surprise! At first, she seemed like just another carefree schoolgirl heroine—but she grew into someone real. She carried confusion, fear, frustration, and quiet strength with authenticity. Not the shallow, “perfect” school drama heroine we often see—she felt alive and true!

💔 Gu Mingggggggggg
My heart! I actually started this drama because of a reel of him, but in the end, he left one of the deepest impressions! 😭felt sad for him😭often😭

🌟 Final thoughts?
Maybe it wasn’t the most groundbreaking story ever told… but the way it used every tool—acting, music, visuals, writing—made it feel like one of the best! All’s well that ends well!

P.S. HAhahaah Teacher Liu (or should I say Doctor Liu?) always carrying that blue pad? The reference! The premonition! Aaaaa! Honestly, she looked more like a doctor than a teacher, haha!

💭 One last thought…
What if Zhenzhen’s experience was actually the writer’s? Maybe when trying to publish, the writer first ended the story in tragedy—with her life ending in despair. But to release it, they added romance and hope. Could it be?

Not just a simple-story-line webdrama! We def gonna enjoy it !

The story is truly fresh and unique, and it makes you unconsciously think along as you watch. I’m usually the kind of viewer who keeps things simple and just follows the plot. But this drama doesn’t follow a conventional storytelling order, it constantly stirs up the audience’s emotions, making it even more addictive. There are so many unexpected plot twists that make me go “wow” again and again. It’s not just suspense, there’s also a deeper meaning, telling stories of lives from different backgrounds. Each character has their own fate, and as you watch, you can’t help but get immersed, even feeling the main character’s helplessness and emotions. The visual quality and colors are spot-on, with details that feel very real and perfectly match the era of the story. The actors’ performances are amazing their emotions are on point, making it easy for the audience to fully empathize.

I gave it a slightly lower score for the BGM because sometimes I felt they could have used better background music to make the story more interesting, haha. But I like the OST! The songs are enjoyable though ~~

Worth a rewatch since some scenes can be a bit confusing, but it really has a perfect ending and makes sense ~

Overall, this is a drama with substance, warmth, and surprises. In such a short time, it delivers so many stories and so much emotion. It’s definitely one of my absolute favorites this year! Thank you to all the crew and actors for their hard work. I hope IQIYI fix their translation. This is the main point for international viewer.

A Story Full of Layers: Expect the Unexpected

At first, I didn’t have high expectations for this drama.
With a low budget and a premise that felt familiar: about a phone call from the future. I thought I could already guess where the story was going: a girl receives a call from the future and tries to change her fate. But it turns out, this drama offers so much more than that.

The story doesn’t just focus on one plotline; it also beautifully explores the complexity of each character. It shows how their backgrounds shape them, and how no one is entirely good or evil. They’re simply human, making decisions as reactions to their own wounds and the world around them. What we see on the surface is just the tip of the iceberg.

The acting skills of all the actors and actress are also truly impressive. Although most of the cast are new faces in the entertainment industry except for Huang Junjie, they portrayed their characters with depth and sincerity. It didn’t feel like they were acting. it felt like they were the characters. Their performances were delicate and immersive, making viewers feel like they were witnessing real lives rather than just watching a drama.

The cinematography is equally outstanding, leaving a strong impression in every important moment. The use of lighting and shadows is well-balanced, creating visuals that are both beautiful and emotionally resonant.

Each episode feels tight and purposeful, there’s never a dull moment. In fact, the story is filled with small details, including easter eggs and foreshadowing, which add layers of mystery and suspense. This makes the drama not just enjoyable to watch, but also fun to analyze and think about afterward.

Some people might not like the ending, but for me, it was absolutely perfect. Everything came together in the final episode, and the twists were unexpected and far beyond what I could have imagined.

a rollercoaster ride from start to finish

this was such a thrilling watch, i did not expect to be so grabbed by the amazing storyline and acting,
thought in all honesty, its not a perfect drama because it has many plot holes, the ride was a fun one.

yun rui is an amazing actress, the way she played zhenzhen? she lived her character. I cried for her, her pain and anguish, in the drama the ml describes her as a dim star, and that's exactly how she is. A sunshine character in the beginning but her mental breakdown? so realistic, i felt her pain and sadness throughout the drama

the male lead actor is fine, his acting wasn't extraordinary to me, i felt he was a little stiff in the beginning but when we got his pov in ep 15, his acting actually complemented the kind of character the ml is so that was nice.

the plot is great, i dont like what they did with it at the end but given the ban in china and how complex it already is, i think they did their best. I still wanted something else or ATLEAST give us more episodes where the leads in the present interact, which is why i need a second season.

there were some plot holes, but all in all i love the essence of the story, its message, the characters, everything was incredibly enjoyable.
overall, its a worth it drama,9/10.
would def rewatchhh

Hidden Gem! FL's acting is superb!

It's not your average campus drama. Despite the low budget, the story is quite good. Stand out is the FL actress Yin Rui. Her vibe reminds me of Dai Lu Wa in My Calorie Boy. Super cute and so on point with her acting especially her crying scenes, just so good.

Standouts:
1. Story telling. Well-paced and interesting
2. Characters. Well written multi-dimensional characters. I was so happy to NOT see the typical single dimensional mean girl with one goal.
3. FL actress. Although the ML did good enough of a job, she definitely out shined him in the acting department.

What could've been better:
Satisfying ending enough but the story was so good that you just want to see more!
