Bon Appétit, Your Majesty just saved me from my drama slump!

Do you even know how crazy this is for me?? It has literally been ONE whole year since I properly watched a Kdrama. Like I would start dramas, watch a few episodes, drop them, lose interest instantly 😐 nothing was sticking. I thought I was done with dramas, honestly.

But then Bon Appétit, Your Majesty happened. And oh my god. I don’t even have words. I am OBSESSED. I gave it a 10/10 when there are still 8 episodes left and I don’t even care if that sounds too early because that’s how much I love it. I am hooked, like actually on the edge of my seat, counting down days for new episodes. Every single scene, every single detail is just PERFECT.

I swear I’m not exaggerating 😭 this drama singlehandedly dragged me out of the worst slump ever and I am so thankful it exists. It’s been so long since I felt this excitement, this happiness, while watching a kdrama. I’m honestly in love with it. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this masterpiece. 🫶

Really fun, showing deeper issues through comical lens

The camera work in this drama is amazing. Such great angles. It is visually stunning.

In this drama, the food is one of the lead characters and takes a LOT of screen time, so there is not much time left for the actual story and character development, and there are just plenty events and competitions but not deep inner work.

The show is light and hilarious bc FL is so comical - her 21st century thinking, speech and actions are just HILARIOUS, and ML bounces her humor very well so far....
ML enjoys this role and it is a great role for him, he is perfect for this role bc he is so bouncy, rowdy, innocent yet a serial killer LOL and looks awesome in all that regalia and without it :) and all the horse ridings etc .

The story really is about very deep stuff, how he will reconcile his personal tragedy and not take it on the whole country, .... but the angle to approach it is comical and rowdy so far..... as the FL navigates the scene to figure out where the heck she landed...

ML and FL are an excellent pair and really make this work. Even dead serious scenes of him basically killing and maiming people bc he wants to - are made to seem lighter bc of the underlying comical note.

The overall vibe is bubbly and alive and actually based on love and care between the leads and their friends.

The twists are amazing

So ... watch it as a fun thing and dont expect too much.
There is sexism and tropes etc etc etc but it is overall fun and very warm and actually deep

Just watch and I think something will appear :) And it will :) THis is actually quite deep under the pretense of being comical

If you want something more obviously deep and more obviously meaningful and familiar yet really fun, I recommend My Troublesome Star currently airing///

The filming for Bon Apetit is amazing, the angles etc are so cool .
The story is a twist on the old trope of a cruel cold ML with a traumatic past, who gets softened by the caring FL. But there is a twist here. The cruel ML immediately shows the weak, soft and caring side . Dragging him on that rope and feeding him was hilarious. And the FL is competent. And the sexism is softened by the HUMOR that she brings as the story is told from the comical point of 21st century - ....

but..... the reality is, the dude is a serial killer. Very cute and sexy buff, but a serial killer and also with that female villain as his chick who had him wrapped around her finger. Brrrr... murderers. And the crazy thing - she reminds him of his mom. Some serious crazy.

So yeah we can say the drama is fun and it is, it is tragicomical from one perspective, but it is chilling actually. Scenes where she has to kiss his royal as@ to avoid torture and death are not funny at all.

It really reminds me of Boys Over Flowers, a psychotic violent wealthy ML who uses the FL as a personal psychiatric nurse and babysitter. That drama was really for a psych ward.
This drama is the SAME concept, but it takes it much lighter and makes it fun, partially bc the ML was shown in vulnerable situations too and as someone who cares, and bc the FL is shown as an independent adult, confident and capable.

But the fact is... he owns her as the king... and so he takes liberties that are ... hm... sketchy. For example, he basically raped her (grabbed her arm, yanked her down and started the handiworks as she brought him dinner).... tried to kill her so many times... etc etc etc

I think th most fun is her bossing him around and he has to eat it in spite of all his entitlements .... and of course, his caring for her after all. But it is like ... a shark likes you... and will not eat it now but later..LOL . Hopefully he transforms fast...

----
Technicalities:
The ML is perfect for this role bc of his facial features that make him look scary if filmed from above and bc of his strong physique and vitality, and his wickedly great sense of humor and having fun. He is really having fun with this role. And I think he is a lot better choice than the original actor, who is more mellow and would be too mellow for this very physical. chaotic rowdy fun rom com.

This drama has dramatic overstated acting and imo is in essence makkang drama. CHAOS acting :) And bc it is historical drama, thre are many moments where he acts stuff and wooden, and he speaks not in normal language but in this formal speech that sounds almost like yelling

In other words, less text to remember, less emotions to act, less subtleties to act, and less time on screen
Bc the food and cooking takes a considerable time on the screen, it is a "lead actor" that gets more screen time than ML and FL, so the human actors have less to act...

In this drama, he is a pretentious jerk / control freak and so his entries are very dramatic and he has to look " impressive" - then he dips into being a softie - so he swings in a huge range of expressions, but nothing is deep and held for too long.... he might like acting that better. After all the actor has to have fun.

This drama caught my attention with filming - the scenes and camera angles are amazing and make it so fun. I noticed that the actors do not get too much of camera time, so you see face for a second or so.

In a more psychological drama, e.g. Crushology 101, the actors get a LOT of closeup time on the screen in one shot, the camera stays on them - for example, 2 people talking for a while... so the actor has to be able to hold their role for several minutes and shine in it. That;s a lot harder than a minute in this drama where he throws dishes out and tries to kill someone LOL

THe Bon Apetit drama is more based on jazzy scenes and very dramatic short entries.
HOWEVER, then it is 100000% crucial to do those short scenes with extreme intensity and precision, and not be too subtle but show the "gig" precisely and clearly, to almost overdo it, for example, rolling your eyes, or whatever - it is exaggarated.
This drama also requires fantastic COMEDIAN skillZ, in very visible ways.
This drama also requires a great swing from being a cruel serial killer to being someone crying for his mother or caring for FL.
The contrasts are soooo huge. And he has to act every extreme extremely :) it is so dramatic.
So this is a role in theater, maybe, where you are so far from audience so you exaggerate your acting

Also in this drama he has costuming to his advantage, he is half naked in his bedroom quite often, so he can show off more. Then what he is wearing is also more flashy and makes you look at him, and he is good looking.
Also, this drama is more dramatic, in ep 4 he essentially raped FL, she had to come there and stay there and not get up and run, like it or not...

Disclaimer: I have NEVER studied film but this is what I see as a lay person.

BEST KDRAMA 2025!!

When I first heard about this drama, it honestly didn’t catch my interest. The only reason I decided to watch it was because of the main cast. But I was surprised! I really enjoyed the first few episodes (1 - 4).

Yoona did an outstanding job playing a modern girl who suddenly finds herself in the past. I loved how naturally she treated everyone equally — not out of disrespect, but simply because she didn’t fully understand her surroundings. She stayed true to herself, and that made her character feel so real and relatable.

Yoona portrayed her role with this innocent charm and pure intentions, which is exactly what drew the king’s attention. Some people question why a so-called tyrant king would be so forgiving when she seems rude — but just look at her character! She’s not being rude; she’s just being sincere, open, and unfiltered. That’s what makes her stand out.

Lee Chae Min is doing a great job portraying a young king. Historically, kings — even at a young age — were expected to be mature, and I think he captures that really well. The way he speaks and carries himself feels calm, wise, and composed beyond his years. On top of that, his visuals are really charming and suit this role perfectly. He truly looks the part and brings a quiet strength to the character.

INDEED A MASTERPIECE

* the references to king’s mother in every episode until now captivated my attention.. well there are many theories about it: 1. It’s simply casual that He just remembers his mother every time he looks at ji yeong. 2. There’s another reason why they are connected and we still don’t know 3. Someone said that probably her mother reincarnated so that’s why the gestures are similar and there are too many references. Can’t wait to know the real connection.
* THE ORIGINAL BOOK THAT GAVE JI YEONG THE POSSIBILITY TO GO BACK IN THE PAST IS GONE!!! well, I definitely knew that the king is the real author of that book but we needed confirmation and it definitely happened so now the older book is gone.. so this means that ji yeong can go back only with the new book ??? Will she able to do that?? Someone else said that it’s probably a time loop. He meets her and writes about her, then the book gets passed on and she gets the book and goes back to the past for him to meet her all over again. And the cycle continues… also, do you remember the missed page ji yeong saw when she was reading the book ??? Well, what was it?
• someone else also said that he probably will reincarnate in order to stay together in the present??? AAAA
* I also want to know what happened in the past too .. they are so many things im curious about.. + his mother’s past + who was the person who hit him in the first episode with the arrow???
* May I say that it always makes me emotional every time the food reminds a special person??!!😭😭 it’s so beautiful. I love so much this thing…
* THE KISSSSSSSSSSS???? Unexpected actually.. I SCREAMED. He won’t remember at the moment because he was drunk but he’ll soon and I can’t wait him to find out.. THE CHEMISTRY IS CHEMISTRYING 😌😌

There are so many theories in general , just hope it won’t be a sad ending . Manifesting good things 😭😅

Bon Appétit, Your Majesty – A Recipe for Love and Power

🔹 I would gladly rewatch this! The palace kitchen battles and unexpected romance made it feel like a delicious full-course meal.

✨Imagine being in a royal kitchen where each dish could save your life or cost you everything. That’s the chef's delicious dilemma.

📖 Overview 🎬
🔹 16 episodes, historical romance with time-slip fantasy
🔹 At the time of this review, 4 episodes have aired, setting up the palace intrigue, cooking duels, and sparks of romance.
🔹 Adapted from the web novel Surviving as Yeonsan-gun’s Chef by Park Kook Jae
🔹Yoona plays Yeon Ji Yeong, a perfectionist, French-trained chef who is suddenly thrown into the kitchens of the Joseon palace.
🔹Lee Chae Min portrays King Yi Heon, known for his temper and discerning palate, but unexpected flavors and emotions disarm him.
🔹The story begins when Ji Yeong time-slips into the past and must survive by cooking for the most dangerous king of that era.
🔹 Great for fans of foodie dramas, palace intrigue, and slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance

✨ How It Felt Watching 💙
🔹 Each episode felt like a new dish, layered and flavorful, spiced with tension.
🔹Watching Ji Yeong navigate her way through challenges in the kitchen with creativity was both nerve-wracking and satisfying.
🔹The romance developed like a slowly simmering broth, rewarding once the flavors came together.
🔹 Survival, trust, and love all mixed in the cooking battles and the drama of court politics.

🎭 Cast & Performances
🔹 Yoona as Ji Yeong: lively, witty, and fierce. She carried the role with charm, making every scene shine.
🔹Lee Chae Min portrays King Yi Heon as sharp-tongued yet magnetic; his gradual softening is a delight to watch.
🔹The supporting cast stirs up humor in the palace kitchen and turns up the heat in delivering a well-seasoned balance of laughter and drama

🎵 OST 🎧
🔹 I Find You by Doyoung (NCT)
🔹 Stay With Me by Huh Gak

🎨 Visuals & Production
🔹Food shots are meticulously composed, with each dish artfully plated.
🔹Costumes and sets showcase vibrant colors and regal designs, immersing viewers in the palace setting.
🔹The drama maintains a polished, mouthwatering style that perfectly fits its culinary premise.

🏆 Final Thoughts
🔹 What was sizzling: the cooking duels, they really brought the heat, the clever twist on sageuk romance (no stale tropes here!), and the leads' chemistry, which simmered perfectly from start to finish
🔹 What fell flat: a pinch of nitpicks over accuracy, but that never soured the fun.
🔹 I’d happily come back for another bite, savoring not just the mouthwatering palace cuisine, but also the drama’s sweet romance and flavorful intrigue that always left me craving more

☕ SpillTheDramaTea’s Rating: 10/10 — a perfect cup, I’d pour it again anytime, always up for a refill

✏️ As SpillTheDramaTea, watching felt like indulging in a royal tasting menu. Each course served up fresh emotion and unexpected delights, leaving me hungry for the next bite.

✨ Which palace creation or kitchen showdown lingered on your palate?

Natural Chemistry That Shines”

I’m really enjoying Bon Appétit Your Majesty! Even though there’s an age difference between the leads, their chemistry feels so natural and effortless. They look genuinely comfortable with each other, and that makes every interaction feel warm and realistic. It doesn’t feel forced at all — instead, it flows with ease, which is refreshing to watch.

Love Both Since Young

BAYM GLOBAL SUCCESS! 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' becomes the first Netflix non-original series to top the Global Daily Chart, just after the release of its first 2 episodes, surpassing the currently trending Netflix original series—Hostage and Wednesday.

It reached the Top 10 in 93 countries, Top 1 in 41 countries, and Top 1 Worldwide!

Why wouldn't it be the first in the whole country,
YoonA’s hands got so tanned from all the outdoor filming that even the other actors were shocked. Not only that, but she also had scars and wounds on her hands—probably from the cooking fire show. She’s been working so hard, and I’m so glad her efforts are finally paying off. Our hardworking queen really gave it her all. Keep rising, BAYM 🥺🫶🏻

After a long two-year wait, Yuna's new drama has finally been released.
If you like fantasy, time travel and comedy drama, I would say this drama is Bon Appetit Your Majesty for you.
You can say it a beautiful drama by combining how the girl can sustain herself at the past from the present.
Those who are MR Queen Drummer Fen you can see it. I think it will take place on your favorite list.
It was released yesterday and I like it.
In a word, satisfied.
How did everyone feel the first episode? But I feel like Jose. I can't wait for the rest of the episodes anymore. 🥹
My theory: In his point of view and time, she exists, and he fell in love with her. But in her point of view and time, he’s just someone from history. Reincarnation is probably involved in this drama. If the book was written for her to come back, then fate brought them together again, but this time the story focuses on her point of view. The question that will decide whether this drama ends happily is: Does he exist in the present where she belongs?

When he writes the first page of the book titled ‘ Mangurok’, the same book from the future that Ji-Yeong brought vanish. It means that the king was the one who wrote the book, and the recipies inside are the foods that she used to serve him.
So, the part Ji-yeong read in the book that says “May you come back to my side, my love” was really meant for her.
I can really feel the trauma!!! Ottoke 🥹😭😭
#bonappetityourmajesty

The ending might be the same with Scarlet Heart Ryeo, so prepare your heart and tissu.

Episode 4 lost of fun Your Majesty, if you just edited the spelling of what you said, it would be an insult of that level! Just leave out the pasta 😂🤭 🎬 : Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.

Lim Yoona, who we can now see as a chfe . He has trained three months of cooking like Car's Safe for acting in this character. He has also mastered the special French cooking technique called Flambé to do every tactic of the night.
I feel very good to myself know how hard they work to make a character beautiful.
"Bon Appétit, Your Majesty" is not just a drama. This is another proof of its hard work and talent. Of course, it is said that Yona is a very hard actress. I hope this drama is very successful. We have seen four episodes of it in the usual way so far an episode has not even boring to me waiting for the rest of the episode.

Yeahhhh...that's my girl JiYeongah!!! You're from the future...you already know the villain's style....😆😝🤣😂.... I literally laughed hard in this scene..

Fighting....💪💪💪 Show her what you've got... !

Episode 3 was amazing!

Episode 3 was amazing! It’s been such a long time since I’ve felt this much excitement while watching a series, and waited so eagerly for the next episode 😍🥺😍🥺😍🥺😍

As for Choi Min’s acting, I really have to say I’m impressed. At first, when I heard Park Sung Hoon had stepped down from the role due to the controversies, I was disappointed. But now, I’m actually glad it happened, because it gave Choi Min the chance to shine.

His proud expressions, that crooked smile, the tone of his voice, the aura he carries, even the way he goes ‘oohooooh’—it honestly feels like he was made for this role. Even though he’s 11 years younger than Yoona, his performance is so strong that the age gap doesn’t show at all.

Who would’ve thought that the cute little bartender with a short role in Alchemy of Souls would end up here, playing such a capable king? 🥺😍😂

So far So Good - very surprised

This rom-com is actually pretty decent. The actress, although much older than ML, is convincing and funny. They are convincing as a couple. They do have chemistry.

The story is a time travel one where the FL, who just won a French culinary competition, was transported to the era of the king who has sensitive taste buds to food.
Every step of the story is simple but convincing. It's fun and funny to watch the story of the couple unfolds.

Good drama

This is an entertaining drama. My only issue is that I have a hard time following the political plot. I think there are too many characters in the palace background. Other than that this is pretty entertaining and I love the food aspect! There’s also a historical aspect that I enjoy, where the main character mentions political events in the past that she is aware of.

I guess the drama writers are making this king look a lot better than he was IRL. I guess he’s Korea’s “Ivan the Terrible” hahaha.
