To my beloved drama!!
I jumped into this drama with the least expectations and trust on Nam Ji Hyun but surprisingly got hold of one of the best historical dramas.Story - The romance and fantasy elements were perfectly incorporated. Despite the heavy emotional tones in certain episodes, I liked how the comedic elements were retained throughout. The soul swap was made an integral part of the plot and not just a cosmetic addition for giggles. The story also explains the reason and cause behind the swap with perfect sense. Even the childhood connection was not overly done and felt necessary. The political plot did not just revolve around palace politics and corruption but emphasised on social class division and the idea of a small time thief emerging as the people's movement.
The characters remained realistic and consistent. I felt Eun Jo would not prefer to be caged in the Palace and the writers addressed it effectively. Eun Jo's understanding that every person is precious remained steady until the end. Yeol rectified the generational trauma in the royal family by choosing to be a good uncle than a power craving King. The whole of Joseon rooting for the leads was a breath of fresh air in a sageuk. The ending was not rushed and we witness both of their wishes coming true across two lives. I didn't even know how much I needed that epilogue until I saw it.
Acting - For the first time in a body swap drama, the actors perfected the mannerisms of the other properly. My issue with body swap dramas is that FL is written as bold and masculine only to be portrayed by the male actor as shy and feminine. Here, both Nam Ji Hyun and Moon Sang Min channeled each other without making it a caricature for comedy. Every actor portrayed their roles to perfection but I was most impressed with two. Im Jae Yi had the best character development and Hong Min Ki conveyed the character's hatred, love and inner turmoil effectively. I was wondering why Ha Seok Jin took such a small role during the first half only to be left impressed by his acting in the second half.
Everything about this drama shines but the script shines the brightest. And that epilogue will linger in my mind for the longest time!

A great entry point to K Dramas
This drama gave me everything I want in a historical K drama. At the end of the 16th episode, I felt completely satisfied. There wasn't a lingering feeling that something missing. They executed the body swap trope well. Usually that type of plot line can get silly very quick, and leave plot holes.
Some dramas either too much or too little. This drama found the sweet spot. I loved that the FL and ML had strong sense of self. The plot didn't overly rely on miscommunications. The second ML (and most of the supporting cast) had great character development. The political antics were realistic. As I said before, this drama found the sweet spot.

‶It is you. Silk shoes. Flower rain. There you are. My delicate Flower. “
A physician by day and righteous thief by night gets the attention of an idler prince-turned-detective in the Joseon era: a tale of love, class, and political intrigue.✅️ Beautiful story and exquisite writing.
✅️ The best part of the drama was definitely the dialogues between the leads. It felt like reading a classic book.
✅️ The performance of the actors was excellent, the emotions were portrayed really well.
✅️ No unnecessary story lines, clean and neat progress of both the plot and the character development. The pacing was well executed with nice comedy and romance mixed in.
✅️ The secondary characters were good and held weight to the story instead of being a baggage.
✅️ Good camera angles and the cinematography was top notch.
⚠️ The soundtracks and the music could have been better.
⚠️ Nothing new or different.
Overall, very good. Highly recommend for those who like to watch good romance with a touch of fantasy and politics.

I loved it
I just read a review that criticizes this drama for not being consistent with the reality of the era in which it is set and for the narrative choice to follow some laws and ignore others. It also says that it is unacceptable that the very strong female lead is not valued, just to allow the male lead to play the hero. All true. I agree. The fact remains that I enjoyed all the episodes and stayed until the end to enjoy the epilogue. However predictable it may have been. The chemistry between the two, the butterflies in the stomach, the emotions, ML's unbelievable handesomeness. It had everything. If you're looking for these things too, watch it! readWas this review helpful to you?

Another Favorite From 2026, Loved Everything About It!!
What happens when a righteous thief meets the Grand Prince??Supposedly, he/she should get arrested. This show might remind you of “Moon River”. The recently concluded shows shared one concept- body swapping. The male protagonists in both shows swap bodies whenever one of them is in danger. The theme might seem repetitive, but “To My Beloved Thief” wins with sheer better execution. Starring Nam Ji Hyun & Moon Sang Min in the lead roles, the storyline revolves around the magnanimous thief Gil Dong. With a crazy King on the throne, the capital lies in ruins and the people don’t have food to consume. As such, Gil Dong plays “Robin Hood” by stealing from corrupt officials and sharing their wealth with the downtrodden. During the day time, Gil Dong embodies another personality, that is of Physician Hong Eun Jo. Caught unaware, she gets entangled with the Grand Prince Do Wol, who is rumored to be an idler. As Dowol investigates Gil Dong’s background, he gradually falls for Eun Jo & they work together for the betterment of the poor people.

Wonderful story, tender and respectful relationship
Loved this historical drama… well worth the watch. The caring, mutual respect, and loving communication between them was just what I needed. You can easily see how the two leads are attracted to each other and how the people around them reflected their character. The 2ML’s change in character was enjoyable to watch… I can see why he chose to leave, too hard to see FL with another man. I would like to see him in another KDRAMA as a ML! Great happy ending and great music. I would recommend this to everyone. No filler episodes… all meaningful. Was this review helpful to you?
THE BEST DRAMA THIS YEAR SO FAR
this drama is pure gem. i don't remember last time when i found a drama this close to my heart. it definitely will leave an effect on me. it's so soothing, healing and equally the story is top notch.i have never watched anything of moon sangmin neither of nam jihyun. and i haven't watched many saeguk dramas as well. so i had really less expectations with this. then i watched the first two episodes and found myself looking for updates on every weekend. and soon i was so excited to watch each episode and then i realized how much I'm loving this. and after watching each episode i only had one thing to say, "it's so beautifully written!" I don't know there was no other words (maybe because my English is limited) yet, I can't believe it ended so beautifully too. I'll miss them as much as j love them. there wasn't a single character written badly. especially the prince will be one of my favorite character.. then the second male lead is also admirable. and Haerim is so sweet. the queen dowager, the empress.. everyone is this drama deserves praise.. not talking about daechu tho.. poor guy lol.
I'll rewatch it soon i think. it was a very memorable journey for me.

This episode belongs to the leads. The chemistry between the "thief" and the "beloved" has shifted from playful cat-and-mouse games to a raw, painful confrontation. The realization that their entire relationship might have been built on a foundation of professional deception hits hard.
Key Plot Developments
The long-awaited moment where identities are finally confirmed doesn't happen with a bang, but with a quiet, devastating conversation.
We see the protagonist struggling with their loyalty to the "crew" versus their genuine feelings for the person they were supposed to target.
The Antagonist's Move: While the leads are distracted by their heartbreaks, the secondary villain makes a calculated move that raises the stakes for the upcoming finale.
Technical Highlights
:The use of shadows in the confrontation scene was brilliant, visually representing the "gray areas" of the characters' morality.
Pacing: After a few slower episodes, Episode 14 picks up the speed, expertly balancing dialogue-heavy scenes with high-stakes tension.
"Episode 14 is a masterclass in building stakes. It reminds us that while stolen goods can be replaced, stolen trust is much harder to recover.

Episodes 9 and 10 mark a profound and emotional turning point for the series, shifting the narrative from a clever heist drama into a high-stakes political tragedy. Following the devastating loss of Min-jik, the story follows Eun-jo (Nam Ji-hyun) as she descends into a state of raw grief and a relentless thirst for revenge. This emotional shift creates a painful rift between her and Prince Yi Yeol (Moon Sang-min), as she pushes away the one person trying to shield her from the palace's mounting dangers. The tension peaks during a beautifully shot, rain-soaked confrontation where Eun-jo accidentally wounds the Prince, realizing too late that he was acting as her silent protector. This moment showcases the phenomenal chemistry between Nam Ji-hyun and Moon Sang-min, particularly the Prince’s heartbreaking decision to offer comfort rather than blame. As the political web unearths the truth behind the King’s "madness"—revealed to be the result of hallucinogenic incense—the stakes reach a boiling point.
In a masterfully timed cliffhanger, the mysterious jade bracelet triggers a second body swap just as Eun-jo is on the verge of a dangerous assassination attempt. Finding herself suddenly trapped in the Prince’s body while standing face-to-face with the King, Eun-jo is forced into a role she is unprepared for. These episodes are being hailed by critics for their relentless pacing and the seamless blend of supernatural elements with historical intrigue, leaving the audience in total suspense for what comes next.

perfect
ive never written a review for any of the hundreds of shows I’ve seenive never cried for so many reasons. sadness obviously, but Joy, because i was proud, because i was scared, because I was nervous or relieved, because this show was perfect.
there are some shows I wanted to be longer because of the feeling it gave me, or because I loved the cast/love story. but I wanted to continue to see these characters grow. so complex and beautifully written characters- every single one had depth.

Entertaining but ultimately shallow drama
On paper, this story has the makings of one of the greatest of the historical genre. But sloppy and disjointed execution and the writer's over-reliance on worn out tropes kept it from being anything more than just another entertaining but ultimately forgettable saguek romance. There were so many interesting characters in this story that devolved into cliches or were forgotten about halfway through the show, so many interesting relationships that were never truly explored, or were escalated AND resolved in a scene or two in the last couple eps when there wasn't room for us to really care about them anyway, and so many plotlines that ended up half baked, rushed, or resolved before we really got to marinate in the conflict and tension of them, or really explore their impact on the characters.
SPOILERS BELOW
The second FL became practically a guest star, showing up to say a cute line or two only disappear for the rest of the show. She had zero reason to actually be there, she had no goals or story of her own. The second ML started out as a tortured and interesting contradiction, only to became a lovesick puppy chasing the female lead for episodes on end with nothing else to do but mope around and manhandle her when she stepped out of line.
In fact, that was one of the main problems with the drama--both male leads started out as layered characters with potential for amazing arcs, but suddenly stopped developing as people and became completely defined by being in love with the female lead, with their only goal to protect her at all costs. Which resulted in a cycle of silly love triangle tropey scenes over and over again for 2/3 of the drama. The romance itself also suffered from the usual cliches of noble idiocy, not communicating with each other for no real reason, forced separation for no real reason, multiple near death experiences, and this supposedly insurmountable chasm between and their statuses that was waved away within a scene or two, so that by the end all the magic and joy of their relationship had been kinda drained outta me.
The only character that had a true arc was Eun Jo. Who was at her best when traipsing around as Gildong, and yet we spent half the drama with her having hung up the mask, only to have her throw it on now and again when it was convenient for the plot.
SPOILERS ENDED
It's all real shame, too, because the actors in this show had so much more to give. Moon Sang Ming gave such heart and soul to the drama, and could have done so much more as the gentle prince who had to step from the shadows into the light. Lee Min Ki showed so much promise as the tortured son of the minister , but never seemed to be able to truly settle into the character since the writing never really gave him something tangible to hold onto. Choi Won Yong was dynamic as usual, but he can only do so much with a cliche evil minister character. And Ha Seok Jin made such an impact as the king, especially in his final scenes, he was criminally underutilized. He wrung every last drop out of yet another cliche character.
There were some funny moments, some swoony moments, some moving moments in this drama, but it ultimately didn't delve deep enough into the motivations or emotions of the characters, or the conflict or depth of the relationship, or the intricacy or meaning of the plotlines to make any lasting impact.

A JOSEON ROBIN HOOD WITH A TWIST.
The story follows Hong Eun-jo, an illegitimate daughter of a nobleman and a slave. By day, she is a skilled physician, but by night, she is the legendary righteous thief 'Gil-dong', stealing from corrupt officials to feed the starving commoners. Things get complicated when she crosses paths with Grand Prince Yi Yeol, a brilliant investigator who is obsessed with catching the thief. After a mysterious encounter involving a mystical bracelet, the two swap souls. They must navigate each other's lives, Eun-jo as a high-ranking prince and Yi Yeol as a cross-dressing physician/thief, while uncovering a conspiracy within the palace.Furthermore, despite a real-life age gap, Nam Ji-hyun and Moon Sang-min have been dubbed the 'Dodo Couple' by fans, and their chemistry is the heart of the show. Moon Sang-min perfectly captures the flustered energy of a prince trapped in a commoner's body, while Nam Ji-hyun shines when she has to act 'princely' and stoic. Many dramas use body-swapping for cheap laughs, but To My Beloved Thief uses it to build empathy. As Yi Yeol lives Eun-jo's life, he truly understands the suffering of the lower class for the first time. Conversely, Eun-jo learns that the 'lazy' prince is actually carrying a heavy burden of responsibility. Additionally, the cinematography is stunning, especially during the nighttime heist scenes and the viral 'cherry blossom kiss' early in the series.
However, in between the episodes focused a bit too much on palace politics, slowing down the romantic momentum. But the final episodes are widely considered some of the best in recent K-drama history, choosing an intimate, emotional ending over a typical 'happily ever after'.
In conclusion, To My Beloved Thief is a must-watch for anyone who liked 100 Days My Prince or The King's Affection. It balances humor, social commentary, and a very poignant 'fate-driven' romance.
