MUCH BETTER THAN SEASON 1
If you like character-driven BL stories that mix romance with rivalry, creative ambition, and interpersonal tension, Only Friends: Dream On can be a compelling watch. It seems to be leaning into its emotional and messy narrative more than just surface-level romance, which can be appealing if you enjoy deeper, more layered storytelling. What a great way to start a Show!!Was this review helpful to you?
The Beginning of ArnoldTua’s Dangerous Game
ArnoldTua is honestly one of those pairings that feels natural rather than forced. Their chemistry doesn’t scream for attention — it slowly pulls you in. Arnold brings this soft, slightly awkward sincerity that makes him so easy to root for, while Tua adds depth and quiet strength that balances everything beautifully.I know we didn’t get many scenes of them in Episode 1, but that just makes me even more eager to see how their story unfolds. There’s so much potential in their dynamic. And I’m especially curious to see how cunning Tua is going to slowly lure Arnold — the tension, the mind games, the subtle moves… it’s going to be so good. 🥳

Arnold and Tua are such a refreshing and exciting pair in Only Friends: Dream On.Their chemistry feels fun, warm, and full of sparks in the best way. Every interaction between them has this light, playful energy that makes you smile without even realizing it. The way they look at each other, tease each other, and slowly grow closer feels natural and heart fluttering.

I was here for the mess!!
This show was MESSY and I ate it up!! Loved it!! There was so much drama! I haven't seen the first Only Friends series, so I really didn't know what to expect going into this, but I loved it! I plan on watching the first one soon. I loved how it was all while putting on a play and getting to see that while everything else was happening. Some of the drama was a little stupid in my opinion, especially the fight that broke Jack and Dean as well as Arnold and Tua up. I thought it was a little ridiculous to cause a fight to begin with let alone breaking up. Other than that, I loved how dramatic and messy this show was.Jack and Dean:
Loved their chemistry! Earthmix just has such good chemistry with each other and I loved seeing them. Their spicey scenes were pretty good too. They are quite toxic but you kind of expect that with a show like this. I loved seeing how their relationship kept changing over and over. I'm glad in the finale they took a year away from each other so they could grow as people and be without each other for a while. I do think they will break up again tbh lol but they are cute together and truly mean a lot to each other.
Jack-I was so back and forth on how I felt about Jack. One minute I really liked him, the next I hated him. He's very toxic with how he treats Dean and how he treated Raffy as well. He stayed pissing me off.
Dean-My number two favorite character. Loved him so much! He was chaotic and a bit messy but was so fun to watch. I really felt bad for him too with his past and how people treat him. A lot of people were out to see his downfall, and he really didn't deserve that at all. My poor baby
Rome and Raffy:
I think they had some of the most iconic moments of the season for sure. They were my favorite pair and not just because I was happy to finally see AouBoom get a main role in something. Their chemistry is off the charts. I loved seeing their relationship develop and change over time too. I really think they are good for each other in a lot of ways.
Rome-MY FAVE CHARACTER! Loved him so much! He wasn't messy, he never pissed me off like a lot of the other characters and seemed to just be the most reasonable out of everyone. I liked when he stood his ground with Raffy about not just wanting to be a rebound for him. I LOVED when he punched Jack, that was the best. I could go on and on about him I loved I'm so much.
Raffy-He was messy. I'm glad he grew over the series because there were many times in the beginning that he was pissing me off. I loved him but hated him in moments too. I loved who he was by the end of the series. I was so happy when he told off Jack and started fighting for Rome.
Arnold and Tua:
This couple was the least exciting for me. I think because of the drama and crazy spicey scenes from the other two pairs, these two seemed a little boring. If this were a regular series, I think I would've enjoyed them more. They were so cute and wholesome and felt like a real relationship growing from friends to boyfriends. I just think it felt a little underwhelming compared to the chaos of everything else.
Arnold-He was a little dumb but had a big heart and good vibes lol. I liked him, wasn't my favorite but didn't have a problem with him either.
Tua-He was really nice and I liked watching grow more confident in himself over the show.
One thing I will say is I wish we got to see more of the friendships in the show. Dean and Tua are supposed to be best friends, but we saw them together so little that I would forget that all the time. So, their fight and even them forgiving each other didn't have as big of an impact as it could've. Same with the group of four (Jack, Dean, Tua, and Timmy). They mentioned a few times that they were all close, but we never saw all four of them together and we only really ever saw Timmy with Jack.
Boston also just seemed like such a useless character to me. They seemed to forget about him in the second half of the show too. Same with Gameplay he was just the most pointless character to me. Pete...this mf. He got no real punishment for all that he did and I hated that. He was stealing money and recorded that video and lied so many times but faced no consequences. So stupid.
I just loved this show so much and really enjoyed watching it! I'm going to miss it!!

The dialogues were written by chatgpt and the actors were underpaid.
I cant even bother to talk about how they just killed the essence of only friends, not even letting people kiss outside of their popular ships. When did we get so conservative lol. Also what were the actors doing in front of the camera, i can name only 3-4 people who could actually act in this series, best being Mix's character Dean. The dialogues are so plain it genuinely bores you. There's no spice or hair pulling level frustration portrayed as well. Everything is just....happening and its not that serious. I cant take the craahout of these people seriously neither can defend their acting. Storylone had great potential but I'd suggest giving the director a helping hand jn direction like they did in the first season because somethjng is clearly no sitting right with this one. Anyways overall i love Dean and Raffy. Was this review helpful to you?

ROMERAFFY & DEAN
[Disclaimers: This is my first drama of all the actors except the recurring ones from S1. I have read only ROMERAFFY's parts in the novel. I don't remember much from S1 as I bingewatched it in a night.]This drama was hardcarried by its actors. The writing was a bit annoyingly bad because the plot points were right there, if only they had tried to utilise them and maintain the flow. The characters were also sloppily written especially ARNOLD & TUA. Their relationship dynamic was the most boring of the lot and the fact that I didn't vibe with Joss and Gawin's acting didn't help.
My favourite character was DEAN: he was Machiavellian, sure, but he was also poor and not well-backed and priviledged like the rest of the characters and I feel the viewers and the writers conveniently forget this point, just like Jack. Dean has the burden to provide for himself, his sister and his mother (iirc) and he is just a university student. Plus, the nepotism and bias in the industry keep him from following his dream, which let's be real is very difficult to fulfill if one is poor and without connections and in this day and age, not popular. So, obviously he takes up the hosting job, does the couple thing with Arnold. He does what he can. The only downside to him is that he isn't truthful to Jack and is spiteful towards Raffy. But given how we see Jack questioning every decision he took, including his following Gameplay to his home, when he was stranded homeless, it is clear why Dean lies to Jack. Because no mater what he does, Jack will always nitpick. Jack stirs their relationship in whichever way he wants and treats Dean's views as secondary which Dean kind of internalises and hence wants to "change" for Jack. Jack created that pressure, even when they were on that break he reminded Dean that he had multiple Romeos he could easily get with. He is always ready to judge Dean for his choices but cannot provide alternatives to his problems. It is almost sadistic how he reacts when Dean is left alone by both Tua and himself and hence chooses safety in Gameplay's house. Jack's insecurity keeps him blinded from seeing Dean's situation. Also, the writers did such disservice by completely shoving the drug incident under the rug which led to that almost kiss between Arnold and Dean. I don't see Tua and Jack's reaction to that almost kiss to be overdone because cheating is anxiety-inducing and even though Arnold and Dean didn't kiss they wanted to/were about to and that also counts as cheating. However, the writers could have cleaned that mess by revealing the drinking and drugs that influenced some of that, especially in Dean's case. Jack was obviously insecure and hurt as Dean didn't tell him directly, and that made him rightfully mad as he saw that as a pattern. On the other hand, Tua being in an unrequited love with Arnold for long, obviously felt insecure as Arnold anyway had not shown his intentions clearly. This is a point I disagree on with a lot of viewers that their reactions were too dramatic for a non-kiss. Jack and Dean definitely felt like exes who still have lingering feelings and EarthMix played them so well. I cried during that breakup exhibition scene and kind of wanted them to have a last kiss in the last episode but didn't envision them ending up together as we aren't sure Jack has had enough development and as we see Dean choosing a different more stable profession but agreeing to act in Jack's play again, leaves us with doubts about whether their dynamic has changed. And anyway, one year can change only so much. They remind me of SandRay because I hadn't wanted them to end up together either.
The other character I liked was Raffy mainly because Boom embodied him so well. He is this entitled nepo kid who thinks he deserves the best of everything. I am kind of iffy about him liking Rome the same way Rome likes him but his jealousy over Pete liking Rome was very clear. Rome's character was a bit flat as the writers probably tried too hard to make him a green flag. He almost doesn't fit into the OF universe given how morally correct he is about everything. He was so head-over-heels for Raffy that it's almost impossible for him to hold a grudge. Bro just couldn't resist Raffy lol. RomeRaffy were easily the best part of the show.
The cast and crew said that this season is more character-driven and I side with them. I find the characters of this season to be much cooler individually. The earlier season had more drama and shock-value but this season they tried to be deeper story-wise. The catch is that the vision of the play and the behind-the-scenes drama of the play was so cool but the screenplay fell flat partly because of their CP agenda. They could've let Dean and Raffy kiss, Jack and Raffy kiss and Arnold and Dean kiss to match the premise they had set. The danger the intro sets doesn't translate into the episodes and it's frustrating to see them be so tame. I didn't want the cross-pair kissing for the drama but for the flow of the plot. Their relationship dynamics promised a lot of tension but couldn't deliver it. A lot of people who were fans of the 1st season are rightfully sad about it.
The intro was so cool, I never skipped it. The ROMERAFFY scenes are delicious and even their non-NC scenes (that one where Rome and Raffy are playing with the DJ set and their hands are on top of each other and that scene where Rome is backhugging Raffy to console him) are oozing with chemistry. They remind me of The Eighth Sense's couple - every touch, every glance screams they want to be together at any given point of time. I am so on the AouBoom train. I am seated for Billionaire Biker and am considering watching the other series they're in. They got the least amount of screentime but DELIVERED.
Even with its flaws, I was excited for every Friday and enjoyed watching the drama. I also enjoyed going on MDL comments and Tumblr every week and reading everyone's opinions of it. That, to me, is the best part of watching an ongoing drama.

WHY DID I TORTURE MYSELF WITH THIS
Ah, it's been a long time I've enjoyed GMMTV shows. Sorry to say but I managed to watch this because of Mix only. Mix as Dean was perfect. In fact, I loved Mix. He can act so well and he did a great job bringing this character to life.First of all, I wouldn’t say I am a die-hard fan of season 1 but I loved that it had drama. It was messy for a reason. This season two made me laugh all through. And not in a good way.
It's like whoever directed this series struggled to come home with something dramatic and messy for this season. The storyline didn't make sense at all.
How can there be so much casting and not single chemistry with people they supposedly had crushes on and I am not talking about fixed pairings now? I want to rip my hair off anytime Jack and raffy come up on my screen. As much as I don't fancy season 1, it wouldn't have fucked things up like this. Everyone was missing everyone. I don't like too many NC scenes but why was everyone not kissing everyone? GMMTV and the curse of fixed pairings. So are you telling me, Mix and Joss couldn't share one kiss on stage? Like hello? Even if we don't get from other non-parings, Romeo and Romeo couldn't share one kiss? Fucking hell. Just say Mix and Joss don't want to kiss. I miss the former cast.
Thank God for Mix. I wouldn't have known I was watching Onlyfriends.
The only couple I loved was RomeRaffy. Let me not get started with JackDean. And there's Arnold and Tua who makes me wonder what they are doing in Only friends? So funny.

The sequel disaster ft. Only friends: dream on
I'll start the review by saying that much of my expectation from this sequel stemmed from its original series, which is half of the reason for season two’s poor performance. The story wasnt anything remarkable, the couple stories was nothing extraordinary. The same could be said about season 1, however, what really sets them apart is the toxic writing in season 1. The main part of the plot was the messy relationship between the characters, not the actual relationship itself. In season 2, they completely ignored this aspect, introduced a lousy messy trope to stir things up towards the climax and slapped a “season 2” on it.
I personally would've rated it higher if it weren't a sequel but at the same time, I wouldn't have picked up a mediocre plot such as this if it weren't an extension of only friends to begin with.

Some part really didn't make sense: SandRay working as an acohol brand while Ray is an ex acoholic, Boston wanting consent when he never care in first season?? So no one will talk about Jack alcoholism, Dean getting drugged??
It was poorly written.
AouBoom and EarthMix chemistry are really on top... I remove 3 point on cast because can we stop employing people that love Trump ^^
RomeRaffy are really my favorite part of the show, I love them both. I'm glad Rome punched Jack <3
I'm surprised that TopMew are still together
Jack and Dean shouldn't have get back together to be honest.
