A Little Too Much Chemistry and a Little Too Much of Me Being Obsessed with RomeRaffy
Season 1 had a different kind of chaos... the unapologetically messy kind. Everyone was engaging, clashing, spiraling.. it was messy in the best possible way. This season feels more restrained, like everything is simmering just beneath the surface instead of boiling over. I won't say I'm not enjoying it because I absolutely am but there's a tiny part of me that misses that full blown, unapologetic mess. That said.... I am still completely hooked.
Only Friends: Dream On is not trying to give you perfect love stories or clean resolutions. Instead, it hands you complicated people, blurred boundaries, and emotions that spiral just a little too fast... and somehow makes it impossible to look away. What makes it work so well is that every couple brings something completely different to the table. No storyline feels weaker than the other; instead, each dynamic pulls you in for entirely different reasons, making it dangerously easy to get invested in all of them.
Spoilers Alert!!!
Starting with Rome and his nose ring, the show stealer, if you ask me. The moment Rome appears on screen, he completely conquers it. I am absolutely not his strongest soldier. I have surrendered without a fight. And Raffy... oh, Raffy. Watching him feels like equal parts affection and frustration. One moment I want to defend him with my whole heart, and the next I'm yelling at my screen because sir, please open your eyes. Every time Jack gives Raffy even the slightest bit of hope, I'm sitting there in full frustration. Because no. Absolutely not. I am far too emotionally invested in RomeRaffy to handle that kind of confusion. And the worst part? Raffy himself is no saint in this situation... he's out there being a full menace. And yet, when it comes to him and Rome, I suddenly lose all objectivity and I become completely color blind. RomeRaffy are my personal Roman Empire and I am hopelessly soft for them. RomeRaffy's chemistry honestly deserves scientific research. How is it that every time they cross paths they're constantly one step away from either arguing or flirting and somehow doing both at the same time and there is so much tension.
Moving on, we have Tua. I am so soft for him. Honestly, I just want to wrap him in a blanket, cocoon him away from the world, and protect him at all costs. He deserves gentleness, reassurance, and at least five business days of uninterrupted happiness. This boy is so painfully, hopelessly down bad for Arnold... and somehow I am equally down bad for him. And Arnold ... for now, I will simply say... dumb and clueless. Respectfully, but also not respectfully. Please just be clear with Tua. The mixed signals, the hesitation, the emotional confusion- it's so obvious that Tua is getting hurt, and watching it feels like emotional damage by association. Tua is loving with his whole heart, and that kind of sincerity deserves clarity, not confusion. Arnold, please get it together before I personally step into the screen to file a complaint. But also... damn, their chemistry. Because despite all the sighs, every scene they share has me completely seated and emotionally invested.
Dean brings in a completely different flavor of chaos. He's bold, intrusive, unapologetically present- the kind of character who stirs things up just by existing in the same space. And yet, there are glimpses of something more beneath that surface, moments where the sharp edges soften just enough to make you curious about what's underneath all that bravado. And then there's Jack- caught in the middle of complicated histories and unresolved emotions, which makes his dynamic with Dean especially layered. Their connection feels like unfinished business, constantly balancing between past and present, between what was and what still lingers.
And just when the story starts to feel like it might find its footing, it reminds you exactly what kind of show it is. Stability is never guaranteed here. Emotions shift, dynamics change, and there's always someone or something ready to disrupt whatever balance has been built.
Even the soundtrack understands the assignment. Every track feels carefully placed, heightening the emotion of a scene without overpowering it. It doesn't just accompany the story... it amplifies it.
At its core, Only Friends: Dream On is about people who don't always make the right choices, emotions that don't follow neat timelines, and relationships that exist in all their complicated, messy forms. It's chaotic, a little frustrating, sometimes overwhelming but undeniably engaging.
And maybe that's the point.
Because no matter how messy it gets... you're still watching.

First impression: a exploration of desire and the consequences of following it blindly
The opening episodes of Only Friends: Dream On reveal a series that is very aware of its own appeal. Rather than softening the emotional chaos that made the franchise popular, the new season dives even deeper into it. The result is an intense start, filled with tension, provocation, and questionable decisions that always seem on the verge of setting the characters’ relationships on fire. There is a clear enjoyment in watching this game of messy emotions and poorly calculated impulses unfold, and the direction knows exactly how to make the most of that unstable atmosphere.Much of this strength comes from the cast. The chemistry between the actors is the true engine of the narrative, and the camera often relies more on glances, pauses, and teasing than on long stretches of dialogue. The interactions carry a constant energy of attraction and conflict, creating a sense of unpredictability that keeps the viewer engaged. Some pairings thrive on the almost provocative friction between strong personalities, while others build a softer, slower tension. This variety helps prevent the drama from feeling repetitive, even when the story fully embraces its more exaggerated side.
Another strong point lies in how the series treats its characters as flawed people. No one appears entirely right or wrong, and much of the dramatic interest comes precisely from that moral ambiguity. Jealousy, insecurity, and desire are presented with very little filtering, giving the conflicts a raw and spontaneous tone. At the same time, the production maintains an engaging rhythm, balancing moments of intensity with pauses that allow emotions to build before eventually erupting.
On the other hand, the series occasionally stumbles over stylistic habits that attempt to add a level of sophistication that is not always necessary. The cuts to testimonial-style interviews, while intended to provide depth, sometimes interrupt the natural flow of scenes that would stand perfectly well on silence and subtle expressions alone. By over-explaining the characters' internal worlds, the script risks insulting the audience's intelligence, trading organic tension for a structured commentary that feels more like a safety net than a narrative leap.
There is also a slightly risky sense of comfort in the casting. By relying on pairings whose dynamics are already well known to fans, the narrative loses some of the “who will end up with whom” mystery, making the script feel a bit too dependent on the actors’ charisma rather than the unpredictability of the plot. Some musical transitions also feel somewhat dated, with a soundtrack that occasionally tries to dictate the emotional tone more loudly than the performances themselves.
Even so, these details rarely undermine the overall experience. Technical issues in mixing and pacing are easily forgiven thanks to the series’ willingness to present characters who are flawed, possessive, and delightfully human. Only Friends: Dream On does not try to be a philosophical treatise on love, but rather a vibrant exploration of desire and the disastrous consequences of following it blindly.

I volunteer for the next season!!!!
EarthMix give me butterflies like nobody else! Even when their characters are super toxic, it just adds an extra pinch of excitement. Honestly, kill me now! I’ve been so deeply attached to them since 2022 that I’m convinced I’d watch them even if they were cast as dogs, I’m that loyal.I’m obsessed with the fact that they are finally getting more explicit roles. (Don’t worry, I still miss PhuphaTian, they will always be iconic and my favorites!) To be honest, after Only Friends, I wasn’t entirely sure about starting Only Friends: Dream On but you simply cannot escape EarthMix
I’m also impatiently waiting for Raffy to calm down because I need to see AouBoom passion on my screen immediately!
To finish this is my first series with JossGawin, and I have to say, they are such a cute and sexy pairing infact Another reason I hesitated to start this was because I knew I’d get attached to them too and now I'm terrified! If the curse of LOL ends up being real again this year, I might actually die. They were the only pair I hadn't formed an emotional bond with yet, and now I'm fully invested. 😭

Only Friends : Dream On (2026) – EP.6
No one is really at fault… and yet everything feels like it’s falling apart. The “Romeo & Romeo” couple project, created to boost Instagram followers, turns out to be a huge success.
Dean and Arnold’s video goes viral, gaining attention and even opening new opportunities for Dean as an actor.
But success doesn’t come without consequences.
Jack—his ex (or maybe not quite “ex” yet)—can’t help but feel left behind.
It’s not jealousy in a simple sense, but a quiet fear of being replaced.
Meanwhile, Arnold discovers that the money he received was actually coming from Thua.
And this is where things begin to crack.
For Thua, it wasn’t just about money.
He wanted more time together.
He wanted to support someone he cared about.
But for Arnold, it feels different.
It feels like being “given” something—like being pitied.
And that difference in perception hurts more than anything else.
The saddest part is that Arnold still can’t see what Thua was really trying to do.
He’s the type who takes things at face value… and sometimes, that’s exactly what breaks a relationship.
On the other side, we have another unstable pair.
Rome, a DJ constantly compared to his successful older brother Jack,
falls for Raffy—who happens to be Jack’s biggest fan.
And Raffy?
He’s all over the place.
One moment he seems interested in Rome,
the next he drifts back toward Jack or gets tempted by Boston.
So Rome changes tactics.
If pushing doesn’t work, he pulls away.
Rejecting Raffy’s invitations, going on dates with a girl, even letting Raffy see someone else confess to him—
and surprisingly, it works.
Because Raffy does get jealous.
Which means… his feelings for Rome are stronger than he thinks.
This group really is a mess when it comes to love.
And honestly, I have to ask Arnold—
Do you really believe someone like Thua,
who cares for you, gets jealous over you, and stays by your side…
will always be there?

Finally doing justice to the cast
Finally feels like *Only Friends dream on *is doing justice to its cast. Really nice to see Earth and Mix getting the recognition they deserve, and Aou boom, Gawin, and Joss also getting roles where their potential actually shows. The direction this time feels much more focused and lets the actors shine naturally. It’s a big shift from Season 1, which, honestly, felt a bit too chaotic at times and was hard to stay with till the end (even though a few character dynamics carried it).
This season feels more balanced and easier to watch. It may not have the same “spicy” intensity, but the storytelling feels more grounded and enjoyable overall. Hoping it continues like this 🤍.

Good! Worth watching.
Okay, so this is better than S1. I tried watcing S1 and there were a lot of chaos and therefore i could not even bring myself to complete the series.I am not speaking from the novel perspective but the purely old school BL fan perspectice. This one seems less chaotic until now (Ep 6) , and the story is engaging , Mix has definitely taken it up a notch in his acting , so proud of him. Definitely worth a watch. Just thrown in a lil bit of open minded going into this one. I felt like this is realistic. Was this review helpful to you?
Only Friends Season 2 Is Hotter, Wilder, and Completely Addictive
After waiting 2.5 years for Season 2 of Only Friends, Episode 1 truly did not disappoint. This is easily a 9 out of 10 for me. Seeing so many talented actors from GMMTV in one series still feels unreal.Season 2 is even sexier, bolder, and messier, and I am loving every moment of it. The tone is more intense right away, with stronger chemistry and more emotional chaos. The confidence in the storytelling really shows, and the cast delivers across the board.
What excites me most is seeing actors break away from their previous images. Earth/Mix, who many remember from A Tale of Thousand Stars, steps into a completely different type of character here, and the contrast is so satisfying to watch.
Joss and Gawin, who shared the screen in My Golden Blood, also feel refreshed in this university setting, proving their range once again.
The standout couple for me is Boom and Aou. Their bathroom one night stand was incredibly hot and steamy, bold without feeling forced. The tension between them is undeniable, and I cannot wait to see how their dynamic develops.
I am also counting down the episodes until Neo appears because I just know he is going to make everything even more chaotic. Only Friends Season 2 feels bigger, riskier, and more addictive already. I am completely hooked. 9 out of 10.

I DIDN'T KNOW ONLY FRIENDS DREAM ON WOULD BE THIS GOOD!
I love how deeply layered and emotionally complex its characters are no one feels one dimensional and every decision is driven by messy human motivations that unfold with striking realism. The series is elevated by its beautifully crafted music score which perfectly underscores each emotional beat while the thoughtful use of color and precise timing in its scenes create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and intense. On top of that, the actors deliver incredibly nuanced performances, bringing raw vulnerability and chemistry that make every interaction feel authentic. Was this review helpful to you?
