Had Promise, But Needed More

I remember when only friends came out, so many people were talking about wanting the lesbian version of the show. Then, to have one of the directors of only friends direct girl rules, I was super excited! I feel like the women of GMM do not get the same level of hype as the men, so believe me when I say I was PUMPED to see some messy lesbian drama. Unfortunately, some of it fell flat and I found some of the characters flat out unlikeable.

Prim (Namtan) runs Lady Bird, a film company, alongside her friend Min (View). When stylist Gorya (Love), who happens to be an old friend of Prim, tries to make a move on her, Prim's ex-girlfriend Bambi (Film) comes back into the picture. While Gorya and Bambi are fighting for Prim's attention, model Shasha (Milk) can't figure out why Gorya doesn't like her - and is determined to change that. And as Min finally breaks things off with her toxic boyfriend, her junior Praew (Mim) is ready to help her get over him.

While I enjoyed a show about adult women (not in school for once) and their messy relationships, I found Bambi to be wholly unlikeable. Everything about her character left me annoyed and frustrated. For a lot of the show, I found myself wanting Prim and Gorya to be together. This is nothing against the actors or their pairings, I just could NOT like the relationship between Prim and Bambi. Way too much back and forth on the same conflicts, and not enough character development for me to care. On the other hand, I found myself LOVING ViewMim in this show. I thought their characters were so fun and realistic, and their conflicts had the weight that I wish the rest of them did. I also really enjoyed Milk and Love together in this show, but it took a little longer for me to enjoy them. Overall, the show was a good time and worth watching, and I loved seeing so many women on screen! I just wish they had done a better job on the character building and creating unique conflicts that weren't repetitive.

Almost nothing to complain about so far.

What I can say so far: I liked the character introductions, the episode's dynamic was very good – I believe each character had a good amount of screen time, and I'm in love with Bambi – I think she's the best character so far, and the production looks very good, as expected from GMMTv. I didn't like the opening sequence of the series; I thought it was pretty mediocre. Both the music and the visuals look like a clothing advertisement. It makes no sense. The script is "reasonable" so far (I HAVEN'T READ THE NOVEL), it didn't excite me much, but I didn't think it was bad either. Let's see if it improves or worsens in the next episodes, after all this GL was highly anticipated and there's a risk it will decline simply because fan expectations were so high.

Prim and Bambi: You can feel their chemistry from afar, it's crazy how their eyes ignite! Their dynamic is insane, we can see how problematic Bambi is but also how much Prim still has feelings for her, and this puts them in this impasse of "This has already made me suffer before, but I can't love another person, can I confirm it again?"

Min and Praew: Their dynamic is slower, like a kind of "cure," you know? Praew seems very mature and wants to give Min the security to open up and love. I find this very sweet and it breaks some of the tension of the other couples; it's a great contrast and creates balance for the plot.

Sasha and Gorya: I didn't think they matched, and this is the 3rd MilkLove GL I've seen and I still have the same thought: They have no chemistry! Besides, I can't like Sasha because she has the personality I hate most: "The man who believes he's irresistible and doesn't take no for an answer." Sasha can't accept that a woman doesn't like her! So when she finds one, she becomes a kind of "trophy" that she needs to "conquer." And the worst part of this behavior is that when she can't win the woman over, Sasha lies to Gorya to make her feel bad.

PS: Sasha and Bambi may have similar behaviors, but they are different. Because Bambi knows that Prim has feelings for her and that's why she doesn't give up, because when she does something, Prim always ends up giving in... Letting Gorya sleep at her house, wanting to take her home after a night out, etc. However, Gorya made it clear in every way that she WANTS NOTHING to do with Sasha, and yet Sasha doesn't give up. I get angry every time Sasha shows up.

Refreshing

Firstly, the Screenwriter/ Director and Cinematographers deserve to be appreciated. They have done great job in fleshing out Girl Rules universe. If only the editing would have been better and set a bit more grand then the series would be so much better.
Cast was impeccable as usual and expected. The most refreshing aspect of this show is that it is bold and unapologetic. The main characters are all flawed and toxic in their own way which is so human compared to the usual green flag MCs. Another thing I love the most about this series is the colours of props and sets so even though Art Director could not bring grander sets where it should have been, they certainly did a great job with what they had.
Even though Screenwriter and Actresses were running on a tight schedule I love the little nuances and details on each character which makes their personalities feel closer and even relatable.

Also, (unrelated) somehow it feels like Jojo himself sat down with editor and then discovered all these upgraded effects and transitions and put them just to get the 'Gen Z' effect.

10/10 Girls Rules

Girls Rules completely exceeded my expectations and easily became my favorite GL featuring these six talented actresses. Having watched their previous projects, I can confidently say this series showcases just how much they have grown, both individually and as an ensemble. Their performances feel more natural, emotionally mature, and incredibly engaging, making every episode a pleasure to watch.

I know the series has received mixed reactions, especially from viewers who expected a stronger focus on intimate scenes. Personally, I think its greatest strength lies elsewhere. Rather than relying on physical romance alone, the story gives meaningful attention to the characters’ emotions, personal struggles, past traumas, and the way their relationships gradually evolve. That emotional depth made me connect with the characters far more than I expected.

The chemistry among the cast is excellent, and each actress brings her own personality and charm to the story. Watching them grow together throughout the series is one of the most rewarding aspects of the experience. The dialogue, emotional moments, and character development all come together to create a heartfelt and memorable GL that stays with you long after the final episode.

For me, Girls Rules represents a major step forward for everyone involved. It’s an emotional, beautifully acted series that proves meaningful storytelling can be just as captivating as romance. I absolutely loved every moment and highly recommend it. Without a doubt, it deserves a perfect 10/10.

sem ideia pra titulo

Esse GL ia crescendo pra mim a cada episódio. Antes de começar, lá na época que lançou o piloto, achava que seria algo estilo Only Friends. Mas esse GL tem uma proposta bem diferente. Confesso que gostei mais do que ele é ao invés do que imaginei.
Girl Rules tem uma boa trilha sonora, o que eu imaginava, porque o Jojo sempre traz nas séries atuais dele músicas tailandesas e músicas em inglês, não só a OST que as atrizes cantam. Gostei muito da estética da série, dos cenários e das roupas. Todas as personagens, até os figurantes, eram estilosos. Gorya com certeza ganha como minha favorita em questão de look, ela era muito uma garota dos anos 2000 que escuta Evanescence. Gostei das cores da série, são bem vibrantes e com uma paleta que normalmente não se misturaria, mas que combina. A parte de beleza me agradou muito, eu achei uma série bonita. Porém, o áudio durante todo o GL foi muito cagado, vivia estourando ou parecendo que foi gravado dentro de um copo. Isso acontece em outras séries da GMM que vêm lançando, mas em Girl Rules foi em diversas cenas. E a abertura… o que foi aquilo? As atrizes não cantam mal, mas a música de abertura, o “girl girl girl”, meu pai amado… Jojo sempre com aberturas icônicas, entregou isso?
Sobre a história. Meu arco favorito no começo foi MinPraew, mas depois foi pra ShashaGorya, e ficou assim. PrimBambi é aquilo, não curti acompanhar o romance delas, mas gostei muito da Bambi.
Adorei como o GL inteiro levanta muito sobre como é ser mulher na sociedade, muitas cenas que mostram como os homens são em relação às mulheres. Uma das melhores foi a que a Min vai na delegacia denunciar o ex e o policial faz descaso e ainda é homofóbico. Também trouxeram questões sobre menstruação, incentivaram a ida ao ginecologista, principalmente citando que não importa se namora uma mulher, precisa ir ao ginecologista. Gostei da representação do relacionamento da Min e da Praew, todos os conflitos que rolam muito com uma garota que sempre namorou homens e depois se descobriu bissexual com uma garota já resolvida com a própria sexualidade, que precisa ter paciência de esperar o tempo da outra. Enfim, essa série teve muitos pontos fortes, muitas coisas boas. Todas as personagens tinham personalidade forte, mas não eram parecidas, elas conseguiam se diversificar. No entanto, me incomodou muito a personagem Min não ter chegado à conclusão de ser bissexual, ou dela dar um chega pra lá nas amigas que ficavam chamando ela de lésbica ou hétero que namora mulheres, esses comentários sem noção que a Prim fazia muito, e ter dito que não quer rótulos ao inves de dizer que era bisexual. Também achei erradíssima a cena dos amigos da Praew sobre pessoas não binárias. Além deles serem inconvenientes, bifóbicos, ainda não sabem o que é não binário, mas isso é culpa do roteiro, a culpa é de quem escreveu e leu e não corrigiu. Nem eles devem saber a definição.
O que eu acho que poderia melhorar. Primeiro, o GL seria mil vezes mais organizado e aproveitado se tivessem dividido por arcos separados, tipo P10L ou o GL dos elementos lá. Porque era chato estar vendo um casal e de repente mudarem pro outro, e em alguns episódios um estava mais interessante de acompanhar que o outro. E a proposta era ter vários acontecimentos, não se aprofundar tanto, apenas aquele tipo de série que fala de muitos tópicos ao mesmo tempo, porém eu super acho que seria muito melhor cada casal separado, com esses tópicos trabalhados devagar. Porque tinham muitos interessantes: saúde mental da Bambi, Prim sendo diretora mulher em um mundo só com homens ganhando sucesso, a história da ex da Bambi. Min se descobrindo, relacionamento tóxico do ex, aceitação da família, como a sociedade sempre acha que as mulheres fizeram algo de errado por o namorado ser um bosta. Como esse mundo da moda é tóxico, o controle da mãe da Shasha, o desvio de dinheiro da empresária, inseguranças da Shasha com a aparência… São muitas tramas que são legais e funcionariam melhor trabalhadas com mais tempo, ao invés de tudo ser resolvido rápido. E eram tantas informações que eu me perdia ou esquecia porque algo do episódio 2 voltava lá no 6.
Eu odiei muito como a situação da Bambi foi resolvida. De tudo o que eu reclamei, esse é o pior. Porque por três episódios foi construído ela se perdendo, ela à beira de um colapso, a saúde mental dela indo embora. Era perfeito para uma cena que envolvesse acolhimento familiar, da namorada, das amigas e de uma psiquiatra. Tinha tantas maneiras melhores, como ela desabar e ir pra uma reabilitação, algo assim. Me irritou tanto quando a Shasha chegou no aeroporto, disse meia dúzia de frases de livro de autoajuda, aí a Bambi ganhou força de vontade e voltou atrás. Esse acontecimento foi o que abaixou minha nota, que seria um 9. Fiquei muito puta com o que poderia ser o melhor desenvolvimento de personagem da série.
Agora, Girl Rules não é uma bomba. Não é algo terrível como estavam falando no X. Os acontecimentos não são o suficiente pro massacre que estavam fazendo desse GL. Tem tanta coisa criminosa em alguns GLs aí que são aclamados. Rolou até homofobia contra o diretor. E eu acho sim que as pessoas exageraram na opinião delas, pegaram uma birra com a série que poderia ter sido resolvida se tivessem apenas abandonado. E lendo o que falavam, concluí duas coisas. A primeira é que não gostaram porque não era +18 como esperavam e, segundo, fãs de NamtanFilm bravas com a divisão de protagonismo. No fim, eu me diverti assistindo, as meninas tinham quimica, a serie era bonita, eles conseguiram falar de assuntos importantes e apesar de ter muito o que melhorar, pra mim esse GL no futuro ganhará uma redenção do publico e vão começar a gostar.
PS: esqueci de comentar a atuação. Todas as atrizes arrasaram muito, mas um destaque pra Film e pra Namtan, as duas mereciam uma serie melhor do que Her.

Uma pena

A história claramente foi desenvolvida sem nenhum cuidado e sem nenhum interesse em conduzir uma narrativa com qualidade. Foi triste. A premissa era simples, mas a direção e o roteiro (que, pasmem, é da mesma pessoa!) fez questão de inflar a série com enredos desnecessários, personagens irrelevantes, sonorização pobre, o que levou a total falta de desenvolvimento das narrativas centrais e um excesso de fanservice sem lógica. É inacreditável que a série que, no final, literalmente contou com os 3 casais de GL principais da GMMTV, não conseguiu entregar uma história envolvente pra nenhum dos 3 casais por incompetência técnica do texto e da direção. Apenas uma ode pras atrizes que entregaram muito e ainda foram simpáticas. Deus queira que esse diretor nunca mais toque num GL.....

Realmente me decepcionó en su totalidad, esperaba que fuera otra cosa, desde un primer punto no tenía una dirección coherente, fallando también en el guión, tipo, porque un flaco tiraba su Min era No binarie cuando no tiene nada que ver su expresión de género con su sexualidad, solamente hombres conociendo términos disparejos y haciendo lo que quisieron, seis guionistas al pedo y un director que realmente no supo manejar nada de lo que tenía, fallando por completo también en esto, las actuaciones de las chicas son buenas, pero una serie no solo basta con eso, hay otros factores, querían darle profundidad a los personajes y tiene la misma profundidad de un charco, en todo sentido es una serie lésbica con una mirada muy masculina de las relaciones wlw.

Bambie no tenia motivos reales por sus problemas, Prim solamente es otra más dándole oportunidades a su ex qué la abandonó porque si, Shasha al menos tenía algunos que otros mamos, Gorya solo era una estilista rebelde, Min si tenía una profundidad sobre su sexualidad y también el tema de familia pero lo arreglaron en 0, cuando parecía ser un problema mayor, Praew solo una chica que se enculo con una bisexual que no sabía que lo era.

En fin, realmente Malarda, en toda la trama se perdian dándole vuelta a una tajada, hasta el último momento querían crear problemas para solucionarlo en NADA.
