Are we getting a season 2?

I thought this was okay, but I didn't love it.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but Jack seemed very different to me in this. He seemed weaker to me. Fighting wise in the show he was supposed to be one of the best and he was far from that in the special. Even his personality seemed off to me (and that's before the tragedy happened.

I hate than Tattoo and Aran still didn't get together. They set it up for them to get together in the show and in the special and they didn't. I get that it doesn't always happen in the series, but usually if there's a season two or special they use that and they didn't which was frustrating, especially since they kept mentioning it.

Another small thing is that Jack and Joke adopted Toiting in the end of the series and in the special episode it didn't feel that way at all.

Do I love that they killed Joke? No, I obviously wanted them to get together and be happy. That being said his death and how Jack dealt with it after was so well written. I teared up from the moment Aran was stabbed through the end of the show. The wedding scene was absolutely devastating. The acting from Yin during it all was so good.

I don't think the special episode was really needed. I did enjoy seeing most of the characters again and I did like Carbon coming back as the bad guy, but I think the story could've ended where it did.

WTAF?!

We meet up with the team a year later and Jack and Joke decide to get married. Their lives are settled, they have good friends around them, the bad guys have been thwarted and life is far more pleasant for everyone. Or so we are led to believe when wham! Out of nowhere Carbon comes back to mess things up.

I’m not sure what the script writer was on when he came up with this concept but quite frankly he should have just slept the effects off rather than making a special episode about it.

Long and the short, Joker falls into a canal gripping tightly to Carbon who has just shot him, twice, and just days later Jack is marrying a terrible cardboard version of him as they can’t find his body even though Carbon’s was found the next day.

We never really find out why Carbon came back onto the scene or what his end game was and the whole section in the casino our band of intrepid heroes go into to investigate a bizarre invitation makes very little sense either - it just seemed like a good excuse for some gratuitous violence IMO.

After the wedding’ we watch as Jack falls apart then one day, clutching tightly to the booklet Joker gave him detailing the ‘100 ways to say sorry without being there’ he sets off to find peace. At the end of his searching for some sort of closure we find him sitting on a park swing saying his final goodbyes to Joker’s ghost. Weird plot lines aside this is a beautiful ending to a realistic take on the unfairness of life.

However…

Would I watch again? Absolutely not, I ran out of tissues after the wedding and goodbye scenes but we do need another special episode…

This never happened

Once I recovered from all the emotional damage, I will erase the existance of this episode from my memory forever. I thought "Paradise of Thorns" had given my emotional damage, but this was a whole other story...

WHAT THE ACTUAL FFFFF?
I thought they would maybe tie up some lose plot ends and give some development/back stories to the underdeveloped side characters or just some more quest but with happy JackJoke (yes I went in blind, my fault, I guess), but NOOOOOOO. Who ever thought this was a good idea?
Like you wanna emotional damage me? Sure!!! If it makes sense, I will be devasted for my darlings. But this? Why? The delusion? The wedding? Everybody supporting that shiat after denying him before? Yeah yeah noo... sorry. And then for 1 minute after the credis you tease a season 2 that will probably not even happen? Naaaaaaaaah...
Thanks for 12 episodes of Jack & Joke. I loved them very much. There never was a special epsidoe for them, how sad.

If they don't give us a second season I will cry again!

Okay I was prepared somethingt might happen, but I played hide and seek in the social media so I wouldn't get spoiled to much before watching this episode.
And daxx I wasn't prepared for what happened. I was even less prepared to see a cliffhanger at the end of this episode with a completely terrified Joke!! How dare they!

I don't know what I should think of the wedding scene, even thought I can understand Jack. He wouldn't believe his loss after all.

I really hope this episode will lead us to a second season. Otherwise, I don't understand the end of the special episode. It all leads to a second season! Well let's hope and see what the future will hold for us!

Out of the Box

I really liked this special episode. I tried my best to avoid spoilers pre release on iQIYI and watching it I liked that it wasn’t like your typical special episode.

It was an episode just about the length of a standard movie and the quality of production and the story was up to par with previous episodes. One critique of this though I’d say is that if we were going to wait so long for this we should’ve gotten a special YinWar song for this episode. I am unsure of their budget though so I won’t speak much on that because this is out of their pockets.

I liked that unlike normal special episodes this wasn’t fluff and full of happy moments. We still got great acting and action out of the cast. I was also happy to see a little more romance with MarkProm even though I was expecting more. I am still confused on Bonz and Took though.

I was left on the edge of my seat with Joke getting shot and seeing Yin as Jack act out the stages of grief really showed off his acting. I am also very excited that Joke isn’t dead and that we will get hopefully another season. Even if it takes a while I am willing to wait so we can get the ending we deserve. I applaud YinWar for going against the grain with Thai BL and for not being afraid to not give us a happy ending. Though that is what I want I feel like at least for now there is a bigger picture and they are choosing art over what makes people happy and I’m here for the ride.

I’m convinced people didn’t actually watch

I’m convinced people are just review bombing or they didn’t actually watch the show. To say the characters were one dimensional proves that. The amount of depth they had was actually impressive. This series was about family, friends, and the real lives some people face in Thailand. There was a comedy aspect but the show was mostly a drama. I’m not one of the people that found the cardboard cut out funny. I found it quite sad, and see what they were trying to portray.

Throughout the wedding Jack believes or truely wants to believe Joke is alive. He even yells out “why do people keep thinking you’re dead”. I think he believes until that moment that Joke will return in time for the wedding and when he doesn’t, the stand in was the idea of his friends. I mean he punched them when they told him otherwise! Until Jack is sitting at that table after the wedding and he breaks down and realizes Joke is not coming.

Have the people that found his grief funny never been through it? Jack classically went through the stages of grief and the wedding was him working through that. Grief can do some wild things to your mind. His friends and family adore Jack and they are going to stand by his side and do what they have to do. Like making a fake Joke or Grandma talking to Joke at the dinner table. That’s what this entire series was about! They also mention that Jacks family comes from Chinese descent so it could have also been a ghost wedding which makes sense for the stand in as well.

As a YinWar fan, yeah we kind of expect the sad storylines because this is what Yin and War are sooo good portraying. The acting in the show was so well done, the characters are fun and they left an open ending for the chance at a season 2. Remember they funded this entire show themselves, so if it did well there would be chance at coming back.

I think some people went into this show expecting something that it wasn’t. It was never going to be a cushy romance story. It was something completely new, well thought out, mature, and exciting for YinWar and their fandom.

Overall, is the special heartbreaking? Absolutely and I recommend stopping after they meet back up in the room (you’ll know) if you don’t want the heartache. However, even all the way through the end credits, I think this was really good, taking place a year after the events of the show. It’s fun, funny, has a twist but in classic YinWar style they will get you to cry. I personally really enjoyed it!
