Glad ignored reviews

Took a chance as needed bindge watch this rainy weekend. Unique story well laid out and not rushed so characters reflected real people. Thought number of episodes sufficient, through main couple ending too open ended, when more time could have come from other couples' filler time. Another first time ML: attractive non-cookie cutter looks and larger frame realistic for physical work performing. Enjoyed his performance as a stoic cold character caused by event not childhood or prior romance related. FL fine and had adequate chemistry with him but would have liked more romantic scenes and having some go beyond HS dating equivilent. Didn't care for how character treated her father and/or not fully explained/resolved before she did 360 near end. Would have preferred if didn't imply parents might get back together.

This was yet another hit score for me!!

There are very few shows where the main protagonists sync so well!!

“Sold Out on You” doesn’t tell the story of two perfect individuals. Rather they are imperfect and flawed. Each of them have different struggles and are dedicated to their work ethics, however different they might be. While Mechoori aka Matthew Lee, is busy working on his mushroom farm apart from acting as the co-CEO of a research firm, Dam Ye Jin is one of the most popular hosts on her home shopping channel. Mechoori is reserved and sticks to his village, he doesn’t like to waste his time talking. Dam Ye Jin makes money talking and selling products, in a way no else can. Their first meeting is quite unusual but the storytelling flourishes as they are slowly drawn to each other. I kept wondering if Ahn Hyo Seop would have good enough chemistry with Chae Won Bin. But they literally shattered my doubts into smithereens, their onscreen romance leaves you speechless.

It was ok, but not something I'd watch again

I think something the drama struggles with is development in the characters other than the lead couple. In particular Eric Seo. He was supposed to be the second male lead but honestly he felt more like a side character who didn't really contribute to the plot. I found it cringe how he fell in love with Dam Ye Jin instantly and most of his scenes came from him getting rejected. Also I wish there was some proper closure between him and Ye Jin, I honestly don't know why she didn't tell him that she was dating Mechoori.

Another character who got very little exposure is Jin Yi. I feel like she was supposed to have a bigger impact on the story but she didn't do much. She confessed her feelings to Mechoori, but we weren't given into any insight into why she fell for him or the backstory between them. Their relationship came off as very shallow and at the end of the show, they gave her a romance plot with the dude at HIT, which there was no reason and seems like a consolation prize.

There were about three love lines in the drama apart from the main couple, but they lacked proper development and it felt like the drama was just shoving romance down our face for the sake of it. The characters fell in love almost instantly and it didn't come off as genuine. I didn't really care for the other couples because honestly they didn't do much.

Something else I want to mention is I feel like they showed the whole villain arc way too late (like pretty much last ep?) I feel like they should have done a better job building up the villains or at least foreshadowing them instead of leaving them to pretty much the last ep. There was a clear struggle between balancing developing romance between the leads and developing the villain plot.

A drama that does this really well, and I think Sold Out on You should have learnt from, is Queen of Tears. Queen of Tears does an excellent job in building up the villains as well as building and developing the relationship between Hyun woo and Hae in.

The standout for me would be the leads, Mechoori and Ye Jin did a good job acting. I enjoyed the romance between them but there weren't any moments that made me particularly invested and I ended up fast forwarding many parts.

In conclusion, I think you should watch it if you have nothing else to watch.

Feels like an old kdrama formula (in a good way) and very fun and light to watch

I honestly don't get the hate that people are spewing about this drama. It is very fun and easy to watch, not to mention very very heartwarming. Exactly delivered the genre itself of being a healing romcom. It reminds me of back when i used to watch kdramas in my high school years. Nothing too overly complicated, abit of a predictable plot but still very engaging and fun. I had a great time watching it on-going. Except for Ep 1 and Ep 2 which was abit of a struggle for me to watch, the rest of the episodes were very fun. Although, I won't lie the comedy and plot slowed down abit near Ep8. It was still fun to watch just for the lead's chemistry and story. I loved their humor code and the comedy, with the main couple but also the villagers side.

The main thing that made me really love this drama is probably the FL. I have so much praises for her. She is so charming as a character and also as an actress. I loved every bit of her acting, from the comedy to the sad bits she delivered them all so good. She has a new fan. I loved the sleep walking part of the plot compared to alot of people who found it corny and hated it. It's abit sad and dramatic lol but it's just my type of thing. But a part that slightly bothered me is I wish they made it more realistic. The part of her recognizing Matthew and talking to him almost too 'consciously' kind of threw me off sometimes lol.

ML is funny in a nonchalant way. He is also a huge tsundere. Sometimes i did wondered if his slight 'stiffness' is because of the role itself or his acting. But it's not too bothersome because his comedy acting is actually really good and he delivers most of his scenes quite decent and very well. He is good with romantic scenes. Both him and fl were very natural in carrying that romantic, in-a- relationship vibe.

Though in the earlier episodes, I feel like his personality may have made people not buy the chemistry between the leads. It made their whole relationship feel off. But after Ep 6 (kiss scene) i can honestly say their chemistry grew ALOT on me. The part of him caring about her behind the scenes sold me. I love how he cares for her by paying attention to the slightest and the smallest things for her. ML is so specific which I LOVE SM, his love language! Their relationship grew naturally which i really enjoyed and I find myself loving their chemistry onwards. I also absolutely love how very supportive they both are to each other. It was nice how at the end of the show, Dam Yejin even healed her insomnia because of the Matthew's influence. They were both healing each other from their own scars. Loved how their scars are both entangled to each other somehow?

-SPOILER ALERT-

About the plot and character behaviors, i do have some complaints which is the cause of my lower rating. There were a few plot holes or flaws which DID bothered me. I can actually ignore some just because of this brains off sort of thing that does come with this genre but these are ones that really bothered me lol

1. How did Matthew knew Dam Yejin's address when he first saved her?? (first sleepwalking)
2. Why was Jinyi more hateful to Dam Yejin than Matthew (creator of product)
3. Kim Beom's character is too fake smiley 24/7 it lowkey annoyed me. I wish he had more depth
4. They let Changho off way too easily though what he did is so evil. also Yoonji
5. I hated how they made ML abit spiteful to FL in their breakup era just to push her away (huge kdrama cliche that i hate)

Positive things about this drama that I like
1. Dam Yejin's character and her story
2. Chemistry between leads are good and grown naturally
3. Comedy and humor
4. Ost and music choices are very good. I love how the music is muted in their romance scenes which made it more immersive
5. Kang Muwon and Kwang Mo gag comedy scenes
6. The bits of heartwarming plot in this drama (somyi and grandma)
7. Deokpung Villagers

OVERALL:
I love this drama so much contrary to the hate reviews people are giving it. It left me with a warm lingering feeling . I think i'll rewatch it from time to time when i need something funny, cute and warm to watch . Ending outro made me wanna cry lol

Beautiful Storyline

I rlly liked it. A cute short Drama with many side love stories. I enjoyed watching it, and finished it pretty quickly. I loved the character personality and and the comedy in between. The ending is kept short and its what i liked. I loved how plot twist kept appearing , while some were pretty obvious but enjoyable. I really recommend it. I often wished for the second male lead to have more of the spotlight and more love complexes in between the main lead and second male character, to spice it up.

Good start but boring to the ending

It has very good start with the hook, comedy and nice story but in the middle season everything became so slow, boring and story feels like stopped just for something unnecessary, but I like how this drama relates to nowadays people that hardworking and less sleeping. The story was actually mid everything predictable, just chemistry for main couple that carrying the whole season. Nice start but boring ending

Ahn Hot Seop as the MVP of this drama

In the end we all watched it for Ahn Hyeo Seop 😂😂😂

Jokes aside, this was an ok drama. Not the best of the year but also not the worst.

I loved the community vibes of the village and how the city people all fell in love with a villager 😂😂😂 Such a typical K-Drama trope! Loved it how everyone got happy tho!

The references to Business Proposal and Boys over Flowers were a highlight though as well as Som-yi’s story 🥹🥹🥹 I literally cried everytime!

The insomnia was relatable at the beginning but the sleepwalking got annoying after a while ngl.

Eric was pissing me off and I didn’t really understand the purpose of him and his sister other than for comic relief / villains to mess up things last minute 😂😂😂

Ahn Hyeo-Seop is seriously so good at comedy!!! Everytime he threw an internal fit I cracked up 😂😂😂

The midway break-up was also unnecessary and rude and very mean! it just made no sense! For that I still hate Eric and Jin-yi. Actually they would have made a perfect couple 😂😂😂

They ended the drama well bt wrapping up everyone’s side stories. That’s when I realized how many characters there were in this drama 😂😂😂

If you have time to watch a drama and you wanna go for cozy village vibes and amazing kiss scenes with a very swoony Ahn Hyeo-Seop then go for it!

Of trust and forgiveness in the end

I tried to finish this drama to see how it ends.

Initially I find Dam Ye Jin so annoying. She can be persistent, yet her ways did not show respect to Michael. She will try everything she can in order to get what she wants without even knowing the history behind the resistance. At one point I thought she is bipolar. Why? When she calls her mom's number, she didn't even remember that when she comes back to her perky day. She may be workaholic to a point that she has forgotten how to take care of herself. This is something that people today should see that no amount of success should be traded for our own health (body and mind).

As for Michael or Mechoori, many say he is a dull character and all because of his past. One must understand that his past troubles led him to hide from the world. Though he may be back in experimenting again, his guard is up so as not to make the same mistake. It is good that he has a community who cared for him and helped him to the very end. As we see a glimmer of hope to re-establish his passion in the cosmetic industry, another conflict arose, but this time he tried not to hide from it - now that he has many people trusting and helping him.

I don't like Mr. Seo. All smiles when he sees Dam Ye Jin is so annoying. He acted like a teenager whenever he is around Ye Jin. I don't know if it is the hairstyle or the look in his face that I find not right for his position. But his sister did well as one who is hungry for power and control. She did well as a villain.

Product endorsements are difficult. And we have seen in this drama how fake reviews can destroy not just a product but a career and a person who worked hard for it. Though the drama is not as promising as we hoped for, still there are lessons to learn from it:
1. When trust is compromised, it breaks a friendship - this is what happened to Mechoori and one of his colleagues
2. There are still people who may seem ignorant, yet their hearts are pure. This is what Mechoori has that Ye Jin didn't in the city - a group of people ready to defend and help him when someone tries to hurt him.
3. Forgiveness - this is what Ye Jin, his mom and dad really needed. And I am glad they learned to forgive one another.

I like the village people, the simplicity of their thinking and life. They all know each other and know how to resolve things around them.

Honestly, I don't think it is worth rewatching.

It’s worth the watch

I think people are being too harsh on this drama, it’s not as terrible as they are painting it.

It’s not a crazy plot, it can be quite comforting at times and I actually liked how their relationship developed, they truly cared about each other. It can be slow in some episodes but I actually liked that, feels like it touched on some “mundane, not so deep” themes at times.

Now some things I didn’t like, it made me so angry how both leads blamed themselves so much for what happened and people around them did so too, they got too much shit they didn’t deserve. No one cared to investigate further the actual culprit of the incident, and the FL got it the worst I really felt so bad for her and how she was dealing with the whole thing alone.

I wish they would’ve given their mental help issues a better conclusion, not once they mentioned how they should’ve gotten professional help, not only for their guilt but also in regards to the pressure of their jobs, they went back to “let’s be super workaholic again” like that part of the plot didn’t see a moral of the story…

Also, the business proposal and kpop demon hunters references were cringe lol, like I get they wanted to use the popularity of those projects and do the “ha he was on those as well” but it was just so unnecessary.

All that to say (lol), just give it a chance it’s okay.

Can anyone explain the purpose of the breakup scene in Episode 1 for the FL? It almost feels like it exists just to show that she can date a rich man without being labeled a typical gold digger—only to get dumped without any emotional reaction. And then later, we’re supposed to believe that this time with the ML, she’s genuinely in love? The emotional setup just doesn’t land.

This drama had real potential, but it gets dragged down by poor direction and weak scripting.

At its core, the story idea is strong, and the cast is clearly capable. But instead of building on that, the show actively undermines its own strengths. The actors feel restricted, almost forced into awkward, unnatural performances.

The ML is written as a poker-faced, emotionally flat character—so limited that he comes across as boring and lifeless.
The FL is especially frustrating: in Episode 1, she’s confident, intelligent, and capable. By Episode 2, she’s reduced to a petty, almost clueless damsel in distress. The shift is jarring and feels like a complete betrayal of her character.
The SML is barely given anything meaningful to do, reduced to a decorative, fangirl/idol-type presence.

Episode 1 actually worked well. It had balance—comedic village scenes with the ML, strong professional and personal moments for the FL, and lively supporting characters that gave the story warmth and energy.

They already made the ML a cardboard character, and then gave him that “hero” entry on what looks like a kid’s toy tractor. Instead of adding charm, it just made everything more unintentionally funny.
Then Episode 2 completely falls apart.

The FL’s behavior in the village becomes painfully cringeworthy, the ML turns into a permanently grumpy statue, and the SML fades further into irrelevance. The pacing is choppy, the direction feels simplistic, and even moments that are supposed to be funny just don’t land. When even chaotic chicken scenes fail to get a laugh, something is clearly off.

It’s even more disappointing knowing the FL actress has proven her talent in stronger projects. Here, it feels like her abilities have been deliberately toned down to fit a tired “stupid FL” trope. The ML actor also seems capable, but stuck in a role that gives him almost nothing to work with—his only standout moment is a brief flash of personality that lasts barely a second.

To fix this drama:

Let the ML express real emotions—make him human.
Keep the FL consistent with the smart, confident woman introduced in Episode 1.
Give the SML actual depth instead of using him as visual filler.

Right now, it feels like the show is wasting a talented cast. The biggest issue lies with the direction, followed closely by the script.

I ended up dropping it. There’s only so much time, and this isn’t worth it.

Final thought:
This drama doesn’t fail because of its concept—it fails because it refuses to trust its actors and characters. Instead, it forces them into clichés, turning something promising into something frustratingly mediocre

Definitely not for me

It was a drag watching since Ep 1 but I tried to gv justice and watched until Ep 3 and finally gv up. I just could not continue any longer. Nothing interesting to urge me to continue watching. I found the character of the FL very annoying. Or perhaps the choice of actress itself, I truly dont know. Other actors are fairly ok. So sorry for not being able to gv good review

A pretty little rom-com

I came to know this series through Netflix recommendations and became curious after watching the trailer.
I was hooked and could hardly stop watching.

I really liked it, but the drama lacked a compelling storyline. I stayed for the witty jokes and fun-to-watch scenes. The main couple was hilarious, even in their more cringey moments. Usually I suffer from secondhand embarrassment but this time I could laugh about how silly the main leads became.

I didn't care much for the drama part of the series. It was a timid rollercoaster ride without many highs or lows. There's was almost no intensity to the episodes. The more intense scenes are rare and resolve fairly quickly. Which was good for me because I was in the mood for someting mellow. It was fun and that's what counts.

Positives:
- I liked the humour in the episodes. It genuinely made me laugh out loud.
- The characters kept me involved in the storyline. I wish certain characters had more depth to them, though.

Negatives:
- The show is weird with time and travel distances. In one scene it shows how much time they have to spend to ride back and forth from the village to Seoul (I think it was like 2.5 hours?) but in later episodes they make it seem like there's no distance between the two at all.
- I don't know what kind of magic is in those sleep meds and anti-anxiety pills she keeps taking but if sleepwalking is the only side effect from overdosing on them, more people would take them by the dozen.
- The whole evil big brain behind their traumatic past was resolved way too quickly. Even for a mellow, not-too-dramatic romcom.

Would I recommend? Yes. Like I said, it's fun to watch. I was definitely in the mood for something lighter which made this one a perfect hit for me. So if that's the case for you, please watch this one. If you're in for something deeper, you might be better off watching something else.
