This was such a cozy and easy watch. The story never tries to reinvent the romcom genre, but it knows exactly what it wants to be and delivers it well. I loved the contrast between the two leads and how their relationship slowly develops through everyday moments rather than grand gestures. The countryside setting, the small village atmosphere, and the overall warmth of the drama made it feel incredibly comforting. What really worked for me was the chemistry between the leads. Their bickering, awkward moments, and growing affection felt natural and fun to watch. Sometimes the plot plays it very safe and a few conflicts are resolved a little too conveniently, but honestly I didn’t mind that much because I was enjoying the journey. The drama also balances humor and emotional moments quite well, especially when dealing with loneliness, personal insecurities, and the idea of finding someone who understands you when life feels exhausting.
More than anything, this felt like one of those dramas you watch to relax and smile. Not perfect, not groundbreaking, but genuinely charming.

Sweet, Funny… Until the Final Episode Stumbles

I loved Sold Out on You right from ep 1. The drama was funny, cute, emotional, and gave me that comforting K-drama feeling I had been missing for a while. There were moments where I laughed, cried, giggled, cringed, and just genuinely enjoyed watching every episode. Some scenes didn't make sense but honestly I wasn't expecting logic from this one. so I didn't mind much.

Episode 1-11:
this drama was honestly a solid 9/10 for me. The chemistry between the leads was okayish, but the overall sweetness of the show carried it. The sleepwalking and trauma-related scenes were emotional, and the comedy worked really well. One thing that irritated me though was Ye Jin’s behavior toward her father. After everything he did for her, she kept acting cold instead of trusting him, even though his actions clearly came from love and care.

Episode 12:
is where the drama lost me for a bit. The first half of the finale felt messy and some scenes were genuinely nonsensical like the fight at mushroom farm. Chango’s suicide attempt scene was supposed to be emotional, but it mostly just frustrated me. The drama went from feeling like a 10/10 to a 7/10.

Thankfully, the second half of the finale got back on track. Ye Jin reuniting with her mother wasn’t emotional for me because I was still annoyed that she only understood her father after hearing the truth from the mother, instead of trusting the father who had always been kind to her.

But the final scene completely saved the ending for me. When Mechoori quoted, “Modern science still hasn’t discovered a better stabilizer than kind words,” and they started showing every character saying kind words while credits appeared in the subtitles… it was genuinely such a sweet and touching moment. That scene alone raised the drama back up to an 8/10 for me.

Overall, except for the messy first half of the final episode, I really enjoyed this drama a lot.

p.s. if not for that quote and scenes after that I would've rated it 7.5/10

small town kdrama!!!!

I finished this show today and I have to say, that although it was hyped up on the internet, I mean Ahn Hyo-Seop being the male lead and all the references to his other works, I enjoyed it. It was refreshing and even if I wished it had more depth and more details, it was still enjoyable. A small town kdrama about community and trying to get better mentally and physically. Definitely a show to watch when feeling down or want to escape the real life situation!
IF you enjoyed "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha", "When the weather is nice", "Once upon a small town" and/or "Brewing love" you're going to like this as well!!!!

Great actors in mediocre dramas... it seems like it's the new trend...

how can 1ML, a pretty good actor and 2ML with huge charisma to act in such a weak, stupid, fake drama... everything feels forced, fake.. the story is -100.... and I'm only at episode 2. actually, I don't know if I'll continue. I was super excited to see them in a new series. too bad. I don't want to love my time at all ..

illogical setting, and the lack of charm or emotional connection, it’s hard to find anything to enjoy or stay invested in.

This drama should be called The Master of Boundary Violation and How to Be the Most Annoying Woman in the World.

A mentally and emotionally healthy masculine man would never fall in love with such a woman.

I didn't like FL character at all. So intrusive, insistent and insensitive. And she's supposed to be funny. That seems to me to be a pure violation of boundaries, of privacy and the drama present this as normalization that she's cute, confident.

The only thing I liked was the images of mushrooms... I love it.

I can't believe how bad most dramas have become.

A delightful and moving healing drama about the power of grace and of being present

There were so many times throughout this drama that I laughed out loud, sighed, clapped, and even teared up. It explores the cost of holding onto unnecessary guilt and blame and the power of forgiveness, all the while maintaining an uplifting and fun vibe using the contrast between the busy home shopping network world of the city, and the quiet, small town serenity of a mushroom farm.

If you like a slow burn super romantic drama with great chemistry, absurd but hilarious humor, and that thoughtfully tackles real issues in a genuine way, you will enjoy this drama.

--THE STRENGTHS
Why I recommend this drama:
--- Hilarious.
There was not one episode I didn't laugh out loud, like cackle level laugh. Usually more than once. The comedy is absurdist, breaks the fourth wall often, isn't afraid to go all in, and never takes itself too seriously. The cast seemed to be having a BLAST.
--- Aces main couple, like truly a wonderful pair.
The main couple had great chemistry. You could feel how drawn they were to each other from the start. Their romance felt organic and subtle yet at the same time passionate and loud. I rooted for them from the start, and they are one of the few romcom couples lately that I feel are actually perfect for each other on a soul level, and who will be really happy together for a long time. I enjoyed every single scene between them.
--- Meaningful character arcs for the main leads.
As the show goes on more and more is revealed about what the two leads have been through in their lives, and all their actions, even the ones that are frustrating, truly felt rooted in genuine past experiences that shaped who they are. Even the short period of angst in the drama felt necessary when you consider what they've been through and the depth of the pain they were trying to learn how to face. I connected with their struggles and enjoyed the layers underneath each character.
- Well connected plotline and emotional arcs.
Too many dramas have a plot that seems to unfold separate from the emotional arcs of the characters, so that the drama ends up feeling disjointed or superficial. Not the case here. The plotlines of the contamination backstory, the current day cosmetic acquisition, Yejin and her mother, Mechoori and his lost dream, all weave together and ebb and flow along with the emotional arcs ebb and flow, resolving in a way that felt perfectly aligned. It's really satisfying and makes all the emotional notes hit quite strong. To the point I actually shed tears more than once.
-- A more complex view of relationships and forgiveness
This show focuses a lot on the cost of not forgiving ourselves and others, and the power of showing grace and letting go of revenge or making others suffer like we had suffered. All of the resolutions felt earned and I really connected to the uplifting and positive message as someone who has had a lot of experience with this in my own relationships in life.

--THE WEAKNESSES
That said, the drama wasn't perfect. And I have to point out its flaws as well:
--- The 2ML is one dimensional, bland and unfortunately not played very well by the usually more compelling Kim Bum.
Useful only for adding superficial angst and comedy to the main leads story. Luckily he doesn't have a ton of scenes, and he does start to feel a little more two dimensional in the second half. There was a lot more that could have been done with him, so he feels utterly wasted as a character.
---Uneven execution at times, especially for anything other than the main leads story.
The bones of the story were really well sketched, and when things came together well it hit SO well, as detailed above. And there were times when the side characters were SO funny and well done. But there were times where the side plots with the villagers felt a little thin, where some of the side character's acting felt weak and distracting, where the pacing felt a bit off, or where certain side characters or side plots got more attention than they merited even though they lacked depth.

The above reasons are why I gave it an 8.5. If we're talking just about the main leads story it would be a 10/10.

This was one of those dramas where the weaknesses were never more than mildly annoying for me but the strengths hit SO well, so overall I thought it was a a good drama well worth the watch.

Glad ignored reviews

Took a chance as needed bindge watch this rainy weekend. Unique story well laid out and not rushed so characters reflected real people. Thought number of episodes sufficient, through main couple ending too open ended, when more time could have come from other couples' filler time. Another first time ML: attractive non-cookie cutter looks and larger frame realistic for physical work performing. Enjoyed his performance as a stoic cold character caused by event not childhood or prior romance related. FL fine and had adequate chemistry with him but would have liked more romantic scenes and having some go beyond HS dating equivilent. Didn't care for how character treated her father and/or not fully explained/resolved before she did 360 near end. Would have preferred if didn't imply parents might get back together.

This was yet another hit score for me!!

There are very few shows where the main protagonists sync so well!!

“Sold Out on You” doesn’t tell the story of two perfect individuals. Rather they are imperfect and flawed. Each of them have different struggles and are dedicated to their work ethics, however different they might be. While Mechoori aka Matthew Lee, is busy working on his mushroom farm apart from acting as the co-CEO of a research firm, Dam Ye Jin is one of the most popular hosts on her home shopping channel. Mechoori is reserved and sticks to his village, he doesn’t like to waste his time talking. Dam Ye Jin makes money talking and selling products, in a way no else can. Their first meeting is quite unusual but the storytelling flourishes as they are slowly drawn to each other. I kept wondering if Ahn Hyo Seop would have good enough chemistry with Chae Won Bin. But they literally shattered my doubts into smithereens, their onscreen romance leaves you speechless.

It was ok, but not something I'd watch again

I think something the drama struggles with is development in the characters other than the lead couple. In particular Eric Seo. He was supposed to be the second male lead but honestly he felt more like a side character who didn't really contribute to the plot. I found it cringe how he fell in love with Dam Ye Jin instantly and most of his scenes came from him getting rejected. Also I wish there was some proper closure between him and Ye Jin, I honestly don't know why she didn't tell him that she was dating Mechoori.

Another character who got very little exposure is Jin Yi. I feel like she was supposed to have a bigger impact on the story but she didn't do much. She confessed her feelings to Mechoori, but we weren't given into any insight into why she fell for him or the backstory between them. Their relationship came off as very shallow and at the end of the show, they gave her a romance plot with the dude at HIT, which there was no reason and seems like a consolation prize.

There were about three love lines in the drama apart from the main couple, but they lacked proper development and it felt like the drama was just shoving romance down our face for the sake of it. The characters fell in love almost instantly and it didn't come off as genuine. I didn't really care for the other couples because honestly they didn't do much.

Something else I want to mention is I feel like they showed the whole villain arc way too late (like pretty much last ep?) I feel like they should have done a better job building up the villains or at least foreshadowing them instead of leaving them to pretty much the last ep. There was a clear struggle between balancing developing romance between the leads and developing the villain plot.

A drama that does this really well, and I think Sold Out on You should have learnt from, is Queen of Tears. Queen of Tears does an excellent job in building up the villains as well as building and developing the relationship between Hyun woo and Hae in.

The standout for me would be the leads, Mechoori and Ye Jin did a good job acting. I enjoyed the romance between them but there weren't any moments that made me particularly invested and I ended up fast forwarding many parts.

In conclusion, I think you should watch it if you have nothing else to watch.

Feels like an old kdrama formula (in a good way) and very fun and light to watch

I honestly don't get the hate that people are spewing about this drama. It is very fun and easy to watch, not to mention very very heartwarming. Exactly delivered the genre itself of being a healing romcom. It reminds me of back when i used to watch kdramas in my high school years. Nothing too overly complicated, abit of a predictable plot but still very engaging and fun. I had a great time watching it on-going. Except for Ep 1 and Ep 2 which was abit of a struggle for me to watch, the rest of the episodes were very fun. Although, I won't lie the comedy and plot slowed down abit near Ep8. It was still fun to watch just for the lead's chemistry and story. I loved their humor code and the comedy, with the main couple but also the villagers side.

The main thing that made me really love this drama is probably the FL. I have so much praises for her. She is so charming as a character and also as an actress. I loved every bit of her acting, from the comedy to the sad bits she delivered them all so good. She has a new fan. I loved the sleep walking part of the plot compared to alot of people who found it corny and hated it. It's abit sad and dramatic lol but it's just my type of thing. But a part that slightly bothered me is I wish they made it more realistic. The part of her recognizing Matthew and talking to him almost too 'consciously' kind of threw me off sometimes lol.

ML is funny in a nonchalant way. He is also a huge tsundere. Sometimes i did wondered if his slight 'stiffness' is because of the role itself or his acting. But it's not too bothersome because his comedy acting is actually really good and he delivers most of his scenes quite decent and very well. He is good with romantic scenes. Both him and fl were very natural in carrying that romantic, in-a- relationship vibe.

Though in the earlier episodes, I feel like his personality may have made people not buy the chemistry between the leads. It made their whole relationship feel off. But after Ep 6 (kiss scene) i can honestly say their chemistry grew ALOT on me. The part of him caring about her behind the scenes sold me. I love how he cares for her by paying attention to the slightest and the smallest things for her. ML is so specific which I LOVE SM, his love language! Their relationship grew naturally which i really enjoyed and I find myself loving their chemistry onwards. I also absolutely love how very supportive they both are to each other. It was nice how at the end of the show, Dam Yejin even healed her insomnia because of the Matthew's influence. They were both healing each other from their own scars. Loved how their scars are both entangled to each other somehow?


-SPOILER ALERT-

About the plot and character behaviors, i do have some complaints which is the cause of my lower rating. There were a few plot holes or flaws which DID bothered me. I can actually ignore some just because of this brains off sort of thing that does come with this genre but these are ones that really bothered me lol

1. How did Matthew knew Dam Yejin's address when he first saved her?? (first sleepwalking)
2. Why was Jinyi more hateful to Dam Yejin than Matthew (creator of product)
3. Kim Beom's character is too fake smiley 24/7 it lowkey annoyed me. I wish he had more depth
4. They let Changho off way too easily though what he did is so evil. also Yoonji
5. I hated how they made ML abit spiteful to FL in their breakup era just to push her away (huge kdrama cliche that i hate)

Positive things about this drama that I like
1. Dam Yejin's character and her story
2. Chemistry between leads are good and grown naturally
3. Comedy and humor
4. Ost and music choices are very good. I love how the music is muted in their romance scenes which made it more immersive
5. Kang Muwon and Kwang Mo gag comedy scenes
6. The bits of heartwarming plot in this drama (somyi and grandma)
7. Deokpung Villagers

OVERALL:
I love this drama so much contrary to the hate reviews people are giving it. It left me with a warm lingering feeling . I think i'll rewatch it from time to time when i need something funny, cute and warm to watch . Ending outro made me wanna cry lol

A Good Watch, But Not a Great One

Sold Out On You is good. Not necessarily great, but a fine watch. I've just completed the show, so here are my pros and cons.

Pros:
- I loved the beginning and middle. The whole plot with it being a little rom-com with some angst from her trauma, insomnia, and depression was fantastic. As I was first watching, the part that brought me in was the where the FL was over-using her prescriptions and the color was falling onto the screen. I wish the story was more of a rom-com with angst scenes instead of going into a serious show and removing the rom-com completely.

- Despite what many think, I did enjoy the main couple. Just because they weren't "omg my hearts pounding every second when they are screen" doesn't mean they were lacking. They were calm, and I really liked that change when it comes to couples in K-dramas because I don't see a lot of it. My heart didn't have to race when they were on screen together. It just felt calm, comfortable, and at peace when they were together which is something I want in a romantic relationship.

- I love Eric. Honestly, I wish he had his own show. But in this show, it was a relief he wasn't a villain because I was getting major creepy vibes from him, but he was just a genuinely good guy in the end. Also, I loved how every time Mecchori thought of Eric, French music would play. As someone who is French that is a real fact. Wherever we go, French music will play.

- Many hate how the FL was mean to her father but idolized her mother. I, however, found it VERY realistic. I have a few relatives who were without their mother. Although their other guardians cared for them, loved them, fed, & clothed them, they always had an idolization and longing of their mother despite her never being in their lives. Seeing the FL experience this felt very natural as someone who knows this happens. People tend to long for the parent or parents they never had.

- Mecchori's second-hand man finally got some love. I've watched a many K-dramas, and my mans is in more than most. Sadly, as he usually plays the second-hand man to the rich ceo guy like how he is with Mecchori and Mecchori's actor in Business Proposal, he NEVER gets love. I felt so happy seeing him finally get with someone.

- The little girl was the best character. She was so sweet even though she was suffering from a terrible skin condition. Even to the people who made the cream and promoted it, she was so kind to Mecchori and FL. I'm glad she got a happy end with her skin condition getting a bit better with the Noori cream. Also her relationship with Mecchori was the sweetest thing.

Cons:
- The main story with the creams and the villains was a bit boring. I even found myself skipping lots of portions in the last three-ish remaining episodes due to the blandness. I do like the idea of the cream plot, but it could've been better with some better writing.

- I wish they kept the FL's "sad" story for a bit longer. In my personal opinion, that was the best part of the show. However, they kind of swept it under the rug after a few episodes and didn't really mention her troubles again.

- I hated the little girl's older sister. She hated the FL for something she didn't do. Don't get me wrong, I would hate someone too if they promoted a product that was harmful, but that's not what I'm trying to get at here. She despised the FL but not Mecchori? Although there were a few scenes where she did show hatred for the man who literally MADE the product, but a second later she is like "omg Mecchori please help me." Hate for whoever wrote her to be like that.

- The writing could've been WAY better. I know many compare this show to Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, but after watching, this show is NOTHING like HCCC. However, I did wish it had writing of HCCC, so at least the story could have been portrayed better. Also, the writing for the twist could have been better. It was quite predictable who was bad or "would be" the villain.

- I did not care for how we need immediately who would end up with who. They played the stupid cheesy music a new couple would meet. Like we did not need that for some couples who were literally only mentioned in passing and didn't get screentime or any development.
