Twelve episodes in and this just gets better and better.

What stands out is how the story telling and character development shift skillfully from serious to comedy and into drama and then thriller.

A new mother must balance her career and her at home duties with a young child and a husband who have no idea what she really does at work. At work the story does not shy away from her job as an expert assassin.

It's interesting to compare how different vigilante series justify their actions outside the justice system. Some ignore it or throw so much comedy that the murder and mayhem aren't taken seriously. This one has the main lead explicitly lay out the justification when she explains to a new member of their team why she didn't kill some bad guys that they instead covertly delivered to the police. Her team first allows the justice system to deal with miscreants, and if the system fails, then she and her team step in to provide justice on behalf of society. In other words they're the good guys providing an essential service for the greater good.

Odd that the writer so far has not explained who or what is paying for these contracts.

I'm looking forward to see where the series goes. So far it's very promising.

A Bona Fide Killer — Review

It was a pretty good drama until Episode 5. Then Episode 6 happened, and the writing completely started going off the rails.

My biggest problem is the FL. She isn't just highly skilled — she is written as if she has absolutely no limitations.

She's supposed to be an elite sniper, which is already an impressive specialization. But apparently being a great sniper isn't enough. Now she also has to be an expert close-combat fighter who can take on younger opponents with knives.

And the way she behaves makes it even worse. She's incredibly arrogant.

There is literally a scene where she removes her own earpiece so she doesn't have to listen to her handler/hacker, even though he's trying to tell her that she's fighting their own people and that she could have killed a new assassin.

All because she has decided to protect an old criminal she barely even knows.

Why is she even meddling in this business?

She's an assassin herself. She is perfectly willing to kill people, but suddenly she decides that this particular old criminal needs to be protected — even if doing so means fighting her own side and potentially killing another assassin.

And nobody around her seems willing to question her.

Everyone is basically:

"Wow, she's such an amazing sniper."
"She's incredible."
"Nobody can beat her."

Meanwhile, I'm sitting there thinking:

She's a sniper. Why does she suddenly need to be the best knife fighter too?

The problem is specialization

Humans have limitations.

Everyone has roughly the same 24 hours in a day. If someone spends years developing one particular skill, they can become extraordinarily good at it, but that doesn't mean they automatically become world-class at everything else.

That's why I find the FL's character so unbelievable.

It's the same reason we see specialization everywhere — even in AI.

There are chess-playing AI systems specifically designed and optimized for chess. They can absolutely destroy a general-purpose AI at chess.

You wouldn't expect a chess engine to suddenly become the world's best image editor just because it's excellent at chess.

But this drama essentially wants me to believe the FL is the one perfect AI model:

Best sniper + best assassin + best close-combat fighter + great strategist + physically capable of beating younger opponents + always right + never really vulnerable.

She's basically a one-woman AGI with every benchmark at 100%.

And that's where the character stops feeling like a highly trained human being and starts feeling like a power fantasy.

If she's an elite sniper but gets caught in close quarters by a younger knife fighter, that's a weakness. And weaknesses make characters interesting.

She could use her experience to create distance, manipulate the environment, escape, or find another way to win.

That would actually make her impressive.

Instead, the writers seem to say:

"Don't worry. She's the Great Ajumma Sniper. She can fight too."

And apparently being 46 doesn't matter either. She can casually beat younger women in physical combat because... she's just that awesome.

There's nothing wrong with having an older female protagonist who is extremely capable. The problem is making her capable of everything while giving her practically no meaningful weaknesses.

A character doesn't become better because you keep adding skills to her character sheet.

Sometimes "she's the best sniper in the world, but she's not a great hand-to-hand fighter" is much more believable — and much more interesting — than "she's the best at everything."

The first five episodes made me think this could be a really good assassin thriller.

After Episode 6, it started feeling like an "old aunty badass fantasy" where every other character exists to admire her and the writers desperately want the audience to know how amazing she is.

Good drama until Episode 5. After that, the FL became so overpowered, arrogant and unrealistic that it completely ruined the tension for me.

My bad for comparing it to 'The Day of the Jackal'

The premise is quite intriguing. How does a sniper live her daily life as a wife and mother? And that too, while being married to a journalist who is basically chasing her.

When I heard this involves a sniper, my mind immediately went to 'The Day of the Jackal' series. It was a pretty good series, and it actually shows that even a legendary sniper can fail, get busted, and end up being chased, wounded, and hurt. So, I had my expectations.

This drama was going fine until episode 6, where it started to go south, I would say. Yoo Bo Na started acting alone, being very stubborn and basically ditching her teammates. She thinks she is unstoppable and unbeatable. To me, it was such a stupid move for her to expose herself in the casino without any proper undercover disguise. She was looking all suspicious in all-black clothing and a black hat, and oddly enough, in such a high-profile, well-guarded place, no one seemed to notice her. I know this is just a drama, but this kind of thing is annoying once you notice it.

What bothers me more is that, on top of being a good sniper, she is also a good fighter? Now it’s becoming a classic superhero story.

OH, and her mother-in-law is shit! Good thing she has a good husband who stands up for her.

Anyway, I am still going to continue watching this drama because I want to see her husband’s reaction when he finally finds out that she is Kingfisher.

Only 2 episodes in, and I’m already completely hooked the show hits the ground running, expertly balancing the everyday chaos of family life with intense, high-stakes assassination missions.

i love the
Killer Vibes: The main lead gives off strong Kill Boksoon and My Name energy—she’s cold and lethal when on a mission, but switching back to mom mode adds a hilarious, My Secret Terrius flavor to the show.

Tension from the Start: Even in just two episodes, the dynamic inside her home already feels super tense. It gives off major Flower of Evil vibes, making you wonder how long she can keep her identity hidden from her family.

It is clear that the husband and wife should talk.

A Bonafide Killer is a stylish drama with lots of beat music and soft melodies. Great OST.

We get to explore the lives of the husband who is an Investigative Reporter and his housewife. The housewife is just going back to work after a three year lay-off, used to take care of her very young child, an adorable cutie. The husband, tries to hide the nature of “his job” as an Investigative Reporter, thinking that it might worry his “delicate” wife. He feels that she could not handle his job excitement level. Slowly but surely, the drama reveals to the audience the true nature of the job his wife has. And you get the sense that the husband is over worrying about the surprise level that his wife can handle.

Cautionary Note: A Bona Fide Killer is about a sharpshooter/Sniper, an accurate one.

Side Bar: I used to work with a person who was a skilled marksman. He had the ability to accurately hit a target 1,500 meters away (about 1.6 miles). Okay! If there were 100 people in front of you and let them walk by, you would never ever pick him as the marksman. No, he was not ex-Military. This story for A Bona Fide Killer is very believable.

Two Faces of Bo Na

The premise of the story is about a female sniper who kills criminals.
Each episode reveals her target, execute it without leaving a trace with the help of her colleagues. As her assignment is called a "Client Meeting" The story behind Bo Na's personality, her past and present are revealed little by little in each episode.
What I know so far about Bo Na:
1. She is a wife of a reporter Tae Seong who had been interested on Kingfisher till he was threatened
2. She has a 4-year-old daughter Yul
3. She has a mother-in-law who doesn't really like her
4. She is an orphan; therefore, she has no family of her own prior to meeting Tae Seong.
5. She works in a company which is a front for all their "Client Meetings"
6. She is Kingfisher, wherein some people think of him as a hero, to take down hard core criminals.

I have lots of wondering about this drama:
1. Who hires them to do the Client Meetings? Who pays them?
2. Who is Sergei? How is Bo Na connected to him? This man is a wild card, and we do not know if he will cause harm to Bo Na and her family.
3. How long can Bo Na hide her identity to her family? How will Tae Seong react if he learns she is Kingfisher?
4. How did Bo Na get started in this kind of a job? What was the reason for her to be an assassin?

I finished Episode 10, and there are 4 more episodes. Still there are many questions in mind. Until now I really cannot figure how this series will end. Will Kingfisher be caught or die some way? Will she resign and not come back to do Client Meetings? Will she reveal herself to her husband?

Part Mom Part Assassin 100% Fail

This is nothing more than budget Taxi Driver with a FL that cannot fulfill part of the role being asked of her.
This is a vigilante drama where criminals who've done horrible crimes are let off with light sentences and either return to their old ways upon release or show no remorse for their crimes. Similar to Taxi, these cases have financial backing and a team of specialists with targets being taken out by the FL whose weapon of choice is a sniper whose able to pull off the most improbable shots, a h2h expert, and is supposed to portray a stone cold killer~
She is softened by time, eventually marrying a victim of a crime, has a baby, and returns to the vigilante role a few years later, hiding her truths from a reporter hubby and her child~ Unfortunately, her killings have drawn national attention over the years. A police net along with her reporter husband are closing in on her identity as the Kingfisher~
The premise of the drama is great. The two MLs are excellent actors who carry most of the drama and there's plenty of comic relief provided albeit overdone at times. FLs strong suit is rom com and it shows, she's absolutely unable to carry the weight and aura of a cold killer. Her scenes along those lines are laughable, unbelievably fake in its makeup, I'd rather watch AI instead of her poor attempts at being an assassin~
The kid scenes of the daughter are also the usual long-winded fake speeches and unusual comprehension of things 90% of children don't care or think about and that REALLY needs to stop in the Kdrama industry. This along with the FL makes half the drama unwatchable and I no longer wish to slog through anymore eps. 2 full episodes in the beginning alone were devoted to a possible confrontation with a character who ended up being nothing more than a fangirling woman who came to work alongside the FL. A flat out waste of time and eps. This drama is a fail with numerous clear reasons as to why~
