Guo Yu Xin and Wang Hao Zhen were excellent in this epic love story

I was stoked when I found out that Guo Yu Xin and Wang Hao Zhen would act together. Both are excellent at dramatic acting and I was looking forward to watching their drama.

What I liked:
1. Opening scene - DAMN, that bedroom scene was extremely hot. Like habanero (I can't eat those but I can eat Thai's bird's eye chilli & jalapeno).
2. Romance - Slow burn with a lot of longing & pent up feelings. Once they were honest about their feelings for each other, the romance went full scale and got exciting. Great kisses and tender moments. I also liked that both had each other's backs.
3. ML characterisation - He had his own struggles to tackle which led to hesitation in pursuing FL openly. I liked his tenacity, kindness and protectiveness.
4. FL characterisation - She was a rookie actress looking for opportunity to grow in the industry. I liked that he used her connection to ML to get a role. At least she's got talent and grit.
5. Supporting characters - I really liked FL's agent, Chao Meng, the crew. The first-billed actress was observant - I liked how good she was at reading ML's behaviour toward FL. Their male friend was entertaining too.
6. Career - I loved that both FL & ML were in entertainment industry. I liked scenes of them on set shooting a drama. It was a drama within a drama.

What I dlsliked:
1. Antagonist - ML's stepmother was evil for threatening and guilt-tripping ML.
2. Duration - At 4.5 hours, it was the longest vertical drama I ever watched. I must say I struggled at times and couldn't finish it in one sitting, which is my preferred way of watching a vertical drama.

Multi-layered romance where true feelings emerge thanks to movie scenes, alcohol and lies

This vertical has no business being this good. The first episode is a master-class of romantic choreography and story-telling, everything is said and felt in a few shots and lines. The plot is surprisingly layered for the format, managing to tell a heartfelt story about trauma, missed opportunities, and second chances. It reminded me of Yoon Seok Ho golden age melodramas and the early excellence of Skip Beat. Like the cult manga it tells a love story in the show-business between an newcomer actress and a top star acting on the same set. Maybe I'm the only one seeing a parallel, but the opening scene feels to me like someone read the legendary Cain siblings arc and wanted the hotel scene to go somewhere : he even says "I don't do incest" when both know he's not even her husband's real brother. Another, more obvious, inspiration is 2024's When the Phone Rings, a huge hit in China (its influence is felt all over verticals and minis). If you can't stand romances where the MC is apart simply beacause of manipulations and misunderstandings, this one might be too frustrating, but I think they make a strong case to justify why they missed each other for so many years, and why they are so repressed with their feelings (which makes their reunion so deliciously mixed with pleasure and pain).

A Slow-Burn Romance Worth the Time

This drama was honestly such a pleasant surprise. The chemistry between the ML and FL was 🔥—their kisses felt mature, deep, and very natural, not forced at all. The ML clearly knew what he was doing in those scenes, and the FL matched his energy so well. Their body language, eye contact, and little gestures made everything feel real and emotional.

What I loved most was how their inner thoughts and quiet moments were written. The story didn’t rush; it let feelings build slowly, which made the romance more intense and meaningful. It’s a slow-paced drama, but the longing, emotions, and acting make every episode worth it.

The ML’s character was heartbreaking yet admirable—bullied and mistreated by his family, yet still kind, protective, and selfless. Truly a rare green-flag male lead. His relationship with his younger stepbrother was beautiful too—pure, supportive, and free of jealousy. The FL was gentle, warm, and strong in her own way. She’d been through a lot, and seeing her receive genuine love felt so satisfying.

One villain (the stepmom) really caused unnecessary pain and delays—so frustrating—but it also made the eventual confessions and emotional breakthroughs hit harder. Their confession scenes were touching, sincere, and beautifully acted.

Bonus points for the original voices, meaningful music, and great cinematography. The birthday scenes were especially memorable—ML’s expressions alone said everything.

Overall, this is a mature, heartfelt love story about healing, sacrifice, and second chances. Not overly dramatic or violent—just emotional, romantic, and sincere. If you enjoy slow-burn adult romance with strong chemistry, this one is definitely worth watching. ❤️

This was released 2 weeks before the murder of Yu Meng Long

I did not know that I am going to see something like that just a month after Yu Meng Long's murder. A story of a lovely actor who faces wrongs done to others (mostly girls) and standing up to big wigs on their behalf. A story of a top idol who does not back away from facing the critique of his fans for getting engaged/married. A man who is humiliated by hateful people but still comes out clean and without losing his integrity, dignity and compassion.

I am not saying this is the story of the murder of a famous actor, but what the life of actors looks like given the industry. And if something like that can be still showed in VD, no wonder CCP is trying to crack up on it.

I appreciated open commentary and showing with accuracy who is doing the wrong thing: starting with big shots, through hateful and morally weak individuals to brainless, media-fed petty mob/general public - all making the life of a star miserable,

While tropey and predictable, this was done wright - with human dignity upheld high and chemistry bubbling, steaming and exploding. I am giving this 8 even though it was nothing new, but like I said - this was done right.

I bet that if you are looking for romance with sexy scenes you would not expect the script this loaded with moral content. And I bet that if you give it a try you will not only enjoy it but also ponder on the cruelty and greed that comes with power - something that 72% of humanity lives under as of today.

Not a bad representation of the novel "Bringing Home the Nation's Husband"

Read the book. Then watch the show. Then question every decision you've made.
Listen, adapting a web novel is basically performing surgery on something people love with their whole unhinged hearts, and this one mostly survives the operation. They smoothed out some of the novel's rougher edges, made him significantly less of a disaster, and reigned in the villain women to a more digestible level of terrible. Purists will have FEELINGS about the cuts. I had feelings about the cuts. We move.
What they kept? Perfection.
Wang Hao Zhen as the ML is not a performance, it's a war crime. The man KILLED this role with his bare hands and felt no remorse. Every scene, every look, every moment of restrained chaos — flawless. As usual. Annoyingly, consistently flawless.
Guo Yu Xin as Qiao An Hao is exactly who I pictured reading the novel, which almost never happens in adaptations and frankly deserves a trophy. She didn't just play the character, she WAS her. Together these two are so combustible the screen should have come with a fire warning.
The steamy scenes delivered. We don't need to elaborate. We all know why we're here.
The highlight of the entire show is them filming a drama WITHIN the drama — actors pretending to be actors acting in a show, inside another show. Filmception. Absolutely unhinged creative decision. Completely brilliant execution. Someone on the writing team deserves a raise and a nap.
The novel gives you everything. The show gives you the highlight reel. This highlight reel is worth watching.

One of the best short dramas

what a great pairing. slow burn romance with typical story line done in an enjoyable way. I love these two actors separately but together they are pure gold. Their chemistry is so believable and the kissing scenes are some of the best I’ve seen. This vertical drama was just as enjoyable as the full length ones. Their miscommunication issues thankfully were solved well before the last couple of episodes and the ending was quite satisfying. This is the second time I’ve watched it and it is just as much fun to watch as the first.

One of the reason I switched to Chinese Vertical dramas is because I love Chinese stories the most but I always struggle to finish full length dramas, I think they have many filler episodes and I kinda lose interest in the middle, but to me Chinese stories are the best.

And don't look down at these vertical dramas because of it's reputation for being badly acted with cliché and unrealistic plot, some of them are great, even at par with some full lengthed ones, you just have to pick the right drama.

This one was great, nice story, not original but still enjoyable, the two leads were fantastic, flawless chemistry and despite being slightly redundant it was very enjoyable from beginning to end.

I loved the FL, I believe I saw 2 dramas fro her and she is great actress, this is probably the first thing I see for the ML and he also did fantastic job.

I highly recommend this one if you like VD, this one was nice ~

Ok great face but not my taste.

Before you could attack me. I am fan of Both actor. Their gorgeous face are complimenting each other. But i wish they could get more tragic drama with Bad Ending. I tried to watch since i have expectation of angst feeling but the scene was too draggy. ML backstory is well written but i couldn't stan FL character. Their chemistry is okay the kiss was fine but not make me fluttering. The duration of drama make me sleep and too lazy to done the drama. Dropped.
