A very great portrayal of real life family drama

This series is so good! The main story about the conflict between mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law because she loves her daughter way too much and want to control her life is a really great potrayal of real-life family dynamic, especially in Asian family.

The casts do a very great job of portraying their characters that makes the viewer could emphatize with them and could easily makes us feel sad, angry, happy, and squeeling over their relationship, etc. I want to praise especially the 3 main characters: Lingling Kwong as Runch, Orm Kornnaphat as Neen, and P'Kik Suwatjanee as the mother-in-law, very very great job!!

And the detailed props and all small details that the director and team put in the series makes it even more realistic!

Because one of the things that I hate the most is plot holes, so the emphasize on details is making me very happy.

From Great Build-Up to a Drastic Downfall

The series starts strong, with great comedy, entertaining dynamics and especially good character development for the Leads. Ran's development is one of its biggest strengths: seeing her grow from someone extremely reserved who struggles to defend herself or Neen into someone who openly stands up for their relationship and eventually sets clear boundaries is genuinely satisfying. Neen's impulsive and playful personality also brings a lot of charm and comedy, while their chemistry makes the wholesome moments work really well.

Unfortunately, the later episodes almost work backwards from everything the series had built. The fun balance between comedy, romance and drama mostly disappears in favor of increasingly heavy and forced drama. Characters become less nuanced, some previously great side characters suddenly react in ways that don't fit their earlier portrayal, and the story loses much of the depth and believable communication that made the earlier episodes so refreshing.

The biggest issue is how extremely one-dimensional some antagonistic characters become. Ran's mother in particular is pushed so far in one direction without meaningful development that the story eventually leaves itself almost nowhere believable to go.

Towards the end, the series also skips over too much of the emotional journey that could have made its conclusion truly satisfying.

There are also several very obvious product placements throughout the series that occasionally feel completely disconnected from the scenes around them.

Overall, it's a series with great chemistry, genuinely funny comedy, strong performances and initially very satisfying character development. That's exactly why the later writing is so disappointing: the series had already built the foundation for a much more natural and rewarding conclusion, but ultimately chose forced drama and one-dimensional conflict instead.

What I'm Even doing here????

Tbh, after watching Only You, I was already so disappointed. I genuinely never thought any LingOrm drama could be worse than that… but again, I was wrong. 😭

I mean, what are you guys even doing lol??? I was expecting SO much from these two actresses because their acting is actually good, but the story feels like a straight-up slap in the face. Like WTF bruh??? 😭😭

At this point, I genuinely don’t even know why I’m still watching this. The story sucks more than my shocks 💀. It’s literally a 50-minute episode, but I somehow finish it in 5 minutes because I’m just skipping everything and waiting for the LingOrm moments. 😭

And THAT’S the problem… I can’t get enough of them. They’re genuinely so adorable together, their chemistry is EVERYTHING, and I could watch their scenes all day. 🥹❤️ But the story??? Girl… what story??? 😭

It honestly feels like the writers had LingOrm, knew everyone would watch for them anyway, and then forgot they were supposed to write an actual plot. 💀 At this point, even my nephew could probably come up with a better storyline.

I’m watching purely for LingOrm now because the moment they’re not on screen, my attention disappears. 😭

If you’re planning to watch this after *The Secret of Us*, PLEASE lower your expectations because the disappointment is going to hit you like a truck. 😭

Very poor screenplay

From Episode 1 all the way to Episode 9, it is basically the same fight between Neen and Ranch’s mom. There is zero character development and almost no progression in the story. The screenplay feels unnecessarily dragged out.

The book has another part where Neen and Ranch reunite after a year and slowly find their way back to each other. That storyline could have added so much depth and emotional development. Instead, the drama has stretched one conflict across nine episodes without giving us much movement.

Honestly, who is going to keep watching a show that feels this stagnant? The writing is just so disappointing.

And Orm and Ling have zero chemistry. Even the kissing scenes feel awkward and unconvincing. Their relationship does not have the emotional connection needed to make those scenes work.

Story is dragged and questionable chemistry

The plot initially seemed interesting and had enough potential to keep me invested, but the execution was disappointing. The biggest issue is the lack of chemistry between the main leads. Their interactions often feel forced and awkward rather than natural, making it difficult to become emotionally invested in their relationship. At times, both actors come across as stiff, and their performances fail to bring the characters to life.

One of the lead actresses, in particular, delivers a weak performance. Her expressions and emotional scenes rarely feel convincing, which makes many important moments lose their impact. Instead of enhancing the story, her acting often pulls you out of it.

Another major problem is the repetitive writing. Almost every episode revolves around the same conflicts with the mother-in-law, and after a few episodes, it becomes predictable and exhausting. Rather than developing the characters or introducing fresh storylines, the series keeps recycling the same arguments and misunderstandings.

Overall, the writing feels quite shallow, with underdeveloped characters, repetitive conflicts, and an unacceptable lack of chemistry between the leads. While the premise had promise, the poor execution and uninspiring performances make it difficult to stay engaged.

A realistic portrayal of family, marriage, and love.

If you're expecting something groundbreaking for a story about family and marriage and everything in between, I think you need to lower your expectations. As the headline says, this is a realistic portrayal of family, marriage, and love, especially in a SEA country. For those who are not familiar with SEA, or even EA culture, family is tremendously important. If your parents do not approve of your spouse, then this is most likely how it's going to end up. Someone will be tossed to the side whether it's the parent or the spouse. The Moms love playing the guilt tripping card, which was heavy in this series. You can see how many times Runch will falter when Kingkamol would say "I'm your mother," "I'm doing this because I love you," etc. This is why the series has a lot of pushing and pulling throughout the episodes, but it's not abrupt. There's a build up. There's anticipation. There's a reason why everything is happening. It's a lot of ups and downs, and that is what you should expect when it comes to a story about a marriage that's barely hanging on.

The novel, in my opinion, did not have much to offer. It was simple, but the concept was easy to understand. Two women getting married, but a Mom kept getting in the way because, at the end of the day, she didn't like the idea of her only child slipping away to a woman she didn't like. I believe this was a pretty good adaptation of the novel. They added a lot more details to it, which was a pleasant surprise. Runch wasn't likeable in the novel; she had a lack of a spine. But in the series? They added more to her character where at times it was hard to make you side with Neen, which is surprising because you'd think you would 100% be on Neen's side given the circumstances. While it wasn't enough for Runch to come out on top and for the majority to understand her complexity, it was a wonderful addition to her character, so I thought the writers did a decent job on that.

There's a particular detail that I'm sure a lot of other people who have watched episode 11 agreed that we could have done without the kidnapping scene. I believe it would have done a lot more to the story if it focused more on the tension between RunchNeen finally divorcing. We got a bit of Runch spiraling, but I hoped there was more on that and her inner turmoil. The pacing was off toward the latter half of the series, which I wished they could've have done better on.

Lingling, Orm, and Kik did a superb job with their acting. The quiet chaos brewing in Runch, the explosive outburst in Neen, and the unhinged and unreasonable behavior of Kingkamol. There were many, many frustrating moments because of Kingkamol and how they couldn't seem to completely cut her off, but you have to understand that this is Runch's Mom. The scenes of them growing up, the picture frames they have together at her home, the trophies and mementos she kept. If your Mom, who constantly showers you with affection and only wants the best for you, suddenly makes a 180 on her behavior when it comes to your wife, of course you'd be shocked and confused. That's why Runch couldn't completely cut her out (I mean, if she did, the series would only be like 1 episode). Runch's character is complex, and I don't think a lot of people completely understand her because she's not as vocal or overly expressive like Neen. She was complacent growing up, doing things her Mom told her to without question, but the second she wanted something for herself, it was like utter betrayal.

Overall, just like Lingling said in an interview, I am glad that this was their 3rd project together. I don't think they would have been able to portray such heartbreak if it was their 1st or 2nd series. They have had time to be familiar with each other. I am happy that LingOrm had the opportunity to work with a renowned director in the Thai industry. PaJaew really helped LingOrm a lot with their diction, acting, pacing, etc. You can tell he cares for the girls. I wouldn't mind if they worked with him again.

I can go on and on about this series, but if you've read to this point wondering if you should even consider watching it, just watch it and give it a shot. It's definitely not their worst series or even a bad series overall like how some people are making it out to be.

A horrible mom makes for an interesting show

After the disaster that was Only You I couldn’t even make it past episode 1 In Love Forever was actually a really pleasant surprise. I found the series genuinely interesting because of the topics it explores: the control and manipulation of toxic parents, the responsibility children can feel toward their parents, and how a married couple deals with the struggles within their marriage.

Runch and Neen’s relationship… Honestly, what they go through is so unfair. You know they deeply love each other, but they can’t even live their relationship peacefully because Runch’s mother is completely insane and extremely controlling. And when you finally find out the reasons behind her behavior… it’s absolutely ridiculous.

But let’s talk about THE standout character of this series: Kingkamol. Yes, I hated her from beginning to end, but why is this woman so funny?! She was honestly the best entertainment in the entire show. THIS is what I call a proper drama villain: she is literally willing to do ANYTHING to stop her daughter from ending up with her love interest.

And Runch, my little cutie pie… I absolutely loved her character. She’s going through it from every possible direction: her mother is controlling, mean, and toxic, she gets bullied at work, and on top of that, everyone thinks she only got her job because her wife has a higher position than her. Seriously, being Runch is NOT easy. She deserved so much better.

Episode 11, though, is literally the worst episode of the entire series. Throughout the show, Neen is constantly suffering physically, and it all gets brushed aside like it’s nothing. That really frustrated me. And I especially hated that Kingkamol got a redemption arc after she literally destroyed her daughter’s marriage. Runch truly deserved better parents.

Thankfully, the ending satisfied me. I really wanted Runch to stop talking to her mother, AND I GOT EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED.

Overall, I absolutely loved watching this series. I feel like I’m in the minority here, but honestly, it was such an entertaining lakorn. I had so much fun watching it, and I genuinely got attached to the characters.

I was completely hooked from the start, but I swear, Runch’s mother infuriated me so much that it felt like dealing with my own family. Her interference made my blood boil in the best way possible! it just proves how compelling the writing and acting are.
