good actors, good direction, below average but watchable/entertaining plot, terrible storytelling

im. so. confused??? the first half was string but i feel like things were not explained well. imo the feelings between james and ken were not developed well. tension can do the talking in some cases but i felt that here it fell short. especially because we're supposed to believe that they would die for each other so fast. there's not even like a 'love at first sight' thing. i also don't feel like the lore was done well. there were so many discombobulated elements. i also don't understand how james survived or why he is ken's first love. that is something that can be left up to interpretation, but i wish they gave us more to work with like something to subsitatate the half-nour theory.

What the what?

Thats a good example of a good script badly developed. The story has a lot of plot holes and left me with a lot of unanswered questions. There is no lore , we don't know how the Nour came to be, what's their story, why James sees auras, why his dad was killed, did he know his dad was a nour?
The ending is bad and left a lot to be desired.

BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS!!

Nour does not owe me a single thing! They dont make BLs like this no more, the acting, cinematography, editing, sound tracks, camera angles, and everything else i didnt mention, 10 OUT OF 10!! I love how the actors were not afraid of getting ugly while acting (meaning showing raw emotions). The details in the series are exceptional, everything is well executed! But i am not surprised this was directed by Boss Wasa, the director of Top Form. I literally cried while watching ep 5 because of how well everything was acted out.

Im done now. My first review basically a rant ig? But NOUR I LOVE YOU BABYYYYYY!!!!!

What a masterpiece

This series keeps me on the edge of my seat! Every episode gives me a new theory, and I never know what to expect next it just keeps getting better and better. In this episode, what if Chita is actually a Nour, or even the Nour they’ve been looking for? The facts are already on the table: his body rejected Jirat’s mom’s food, he’s always moving around, and he literally felt Prae’s presence. Maybe he knows how to mask his appearance and even his colorfrom James. Ken’s backstory with his friend is so sad. Him crying during that dance scene was heartbreaking because, after losing his friend, James was the only human he’d been in contact with for a decade. James healed a part of him that he didn’t even break. As for Jirat’s brother, he kissed his friend, called it a mistake, and then immediately started talking about his friend’s future kids and wedding. Like, why? I get Panin’s concern, but what about his friend’s feelings? And Prae I need to know her truth! It seems like she’s not the Nour who can kill another Nour, nor is she the main villain, especially since we see her so much. I have so many theories. This series is driving me crazy, and I love it! 😆😍

Strong Start, Messy Finish: A Finale Full of Loose Ends

For the first six weeks, I spent days thinking about this show. Wishing that Wednesdays would come quicker so I could press play on the next episode. I was this show's biggest hype woman (yes, in my head, but it counts). Then episode 7 happened, and I started worrying. I was right to worry because the foundation of this drama, the mystery aspect, flops at the end

Before I rant further, let's talk about the good

🧛🏻‍♂️The overall concept - Nour can be closely linked to vampires. They drink blood, have supernatural speed and strength (more on this later), and heal easily, sometimes without bleeding after being cut. Now, a vampire who has been trying to die for centuries finds love and the answer to his dying wish almost simultaneously... what a deliciously angsty idea.

🧛🏻‍♂️Chemistry - I think both couples play off each other well. They can create beautiful romantic tension together

🧛🏻‍♂️The first 6 episodes - I think these were done rather well in terms of both relationships, but largely with the investigation

Now for the letdowns

🧛🏻‍♂️Sacrificing the Mystery for the Romance
The backbone of Nour is the criminal investigation. The romance plays a support role. However, in episode 7, the switch-up happens and some way, somehow the writers forgot about the investigation, and its pacing. We're supposed to be chasing what seems like a serial murderer, and yet the cops in question waste time on a rainbow and declarations of love. They are investigators, yet they don't act like it. It's infuriating *insert flashback to Dare You to Death here*

After ep 7, we spend most of the time watching them be in love and cry. Someone was kidnapped; they found out who the killer was and... nothing. The investigation side takes a backseat, with cops showing up out of the blue when the script demands it (they take their sweet time btw) with no explanation as to how the operation was planned or how they tracked the suspects. What?!?!?!?!

🧛🏻‍♂️Little to No Character Background
I love a good explanation. In my review of Khemjira, I praised how the 12 episodes gave us enough history and character connections to make the ending feel cohesive and loose-end free. Nour has just as much lore and an even bigger mystery, but leaves the audience completely in the dark.

Some glaring examples

» How was Ken turned? They tell us you need to be bitten in the chest, but in ep 10, in the scene when Ken is supposedly turned, we see a hand go into a chest and something that looks like a specter after he wakes up? What was that? Who was that?

» What is James? In a world where only the supernatural have powers, what is he? How did he end up with said powers?

» How does the cryptic poster relate to the drama? Specifically, what was the history between James and Ken? The poster insinuates there's more to their story, but the drama insinuates that they don't have any history but might be aware of each other's true nature.

» The Nour case was buried, but how? How did the higher-ups do it? Does the command to just shut up about it and never bring it up again work in the police force? Is that how things work? Idk any police officers, so I can't ask

» And how long was Ken away for? He says the cops had been watching him (for him?), yet somehow goes back to the same town during the day and seemingly stays there?

» Say James lives till 70, what happens to Ken? He lost the one thing that could help him die. Is he supposed to live in loneliness again? After watching the person he loves die (AGAIN?!?!)

» All the Nour we saw die died at the hands of another through some supernatural fire. So, what was James going around stabbing Chita and trying to stab him in the chest for? His knives didn't look special in any way, so...? What was the end game?

» How many true loves do these Nour get? At first it seems like they only get one, but they are out here turning their boyfriends so? Eh?

» How was Jirat's death explained to his brother? The brother says the mother took the information better than he expected. So what did he tell her? Simply that he died, or how he died and what he had turned into before said death?

🧛🏻‍♂️Inconsistent Superpowers
As mentioned above, Nour are shown to be incredibly fast and strong. But this only works half the time. An example is in ep 7 (again), when they see Chita burning Prae; there was only a flimsy gate between them. I'd have thought the Nour would break it to reach and try saving her, but nope. They simply stood there, looking shocked and shouting at the murderer and victim.
There's also an issue with how fast they heal. Sometimes it's immediate; sometimes it takes time. Yet no one explains why it happens this way

🧛🏻‍♂️Badly Choreographed Fight Scenes
The combat scenes were rough. If you doubt it, go rewatch the James vs. Chita fight in episode 10. Just... no. To be fair, this is a broader issue within the Thai BL industry—believable action scenes are rare—but these were exceptionally bad.

🧛🏻‍♂️Pointless Side Plots & Rushed Romance
» The College Subplot: What was the point of those two college boyfriends/non-boyfriends? The writers seemed unsure how they fit into the plot, dropped their angsty romantic subplot, only to throw in a bland, mutual confession at the eleventh hour.

» The Main Romance: I know this sounds contradictory since the chemistry is great, but two things can be true at once. Ken and James went from confirming Ken's identity straight to the bedroom, and then immediately to being attached at the hip, promising eternity. They desperately needed more conversations and emotional conflict. I wanted to see Ken genuinely battle with the choice between a new love and the sweet embrace of death.

» The NC Scenes: Sue me (actually don't), but the main intimate scenes were way too tightly framed. The extreme close-ups just felt disorienting.

🧛🏻‍♂️Final Thoughts🧛🏻‍♂️
Despite loving the premise, the decent acting (some were great; others need more work), and the chemistry, I am disappointed in what this could have been. Most of what we saw from ep 7 was not it. As much applaud the bravery to bring something new to the table plowise and as I would have loved to love this, the rushed ending and mountain of unanswered questions leave me incredibly disappointed.

"Life is Shorter Than We Think..."

.... which might exactly be one of the reasons why I suggest that you check out this drama.

It's not perfect; it's rushed, messy and ends up having loose ends and more questions, yet it somehow falls into place. Because the characters manage to stay true to whom they are until the very end. And Nour has several webs that are worth checking out. May it be for friendship, love or family.

With a rather unconventional storyline that's not in vogue and mature characters, Nour is unsuspectingly addictive, both with it's cleverly written mystery that is irreversibly linked with its romantic aspects.

And deeply melancholic.

The very basement of the drama lies on a string of murders and arsons executed by a meticulous perpetrator who incinerates even the breathe of his existence off the planet. This said perpetrator also happens to have the incredible power to kill off a 'Nour' - an eternal being that cannot be killed.
And the investigators involved have two different purposes: one of them is a victim who seeks justice for his father while the other is a 200 - year- old Nour who seeks him to discover the secret to killing himself.

☆ While the mystery serves as the basement, the underlying tone of Nour is rather depressing. It's ironic that the Nour is essentially a being created out of love - Someone loved you deeply enough to gift you an eternity of joy and companionship.
Yet, Ken actively seeks death. To him, immortality serves no purpose. He couldn't die even if he wished to and he has closed off his emotions for centuries.

While humans attempt to cherish the time given to them, he sought death whilst never really living his life. "What was the purpose of existing for an eternity if you haven't really lived it?" -- a character whose life was cut short by a diagnosis asks this to him. I don't know why, but it struck a cord in me.

In contrast to him exists James, who lives with carpe diem as his motto. One had been alive far too long and yearns for death, while the others have their life cut short or cherishes their transient time on this planet.

☆ The mystery is well written. And cleverly directed. Viewers are not provided with a preview and even seemingly unassuming characters are having allegations hurled at them. It's absolutely hilarious to watch this while airing because almost every single possibility is out there once we dig in.

☆ The story is buoyed by an ensemble cast and a director who made sure that his vision was somehow conveyed to the audience. Be it a gripping mystery or a rushed, yet worthy romance that forces Ken to question himself.
The cast is a mix of veterans and fresh faces who deliver equally thrilling performances and I never once felt that this was created by a team of relatively novel crew.

☆ The writing itself might be off putting to some. But, kudos to the team because the pace is perfectly balanced; they knew that having to cover the grounds for at least a dozen characters was not going to go well if we had actual intelligent and shrewd ones.

Instead, we have a wacko Inspector James introduced to rival the enigmatic and terse Inspector Ken. His impulsive actions and energy impacts everyone at the lazy station. And the cases come to a close because of him. And half the plot moves forward because of him. (It worked for me anyways.)

☆And inspite of being completely immersed in its lore, I'm beyond annoyed. Because the worst case scenario applies to every single character, whether I like it or not. The Director wanted to convey the meaning of life, and there is no character who is right or wrong.

But, I was in too deep to extricate myself and this drama had become my companion amidst my University examinations. So, it's definitely a memory that's not meant to be forgotten, whatever the outcome. It might be bitter, but I'm happy that I stumbled across this little imperfect mosaic of a story.

Hoping for a Happy Ending for Them ❤️

I’m really loving this drama so far! I especially enjoy the fantasy aspect of the story, which makes it feel different and really interesting to watch. The story keeps me curious, and I love discovering more about the characters and their world with each episode.

The chemistry between Boss and TongTong is also one of my favorite parts of the drama. They have such a natural dynamic together, and I really enjoy watching their characters’ relationship develop. Their scenes together are always a highlight for me.

I really hope the ending will be as good as the rest of the drama. More than anything, I hope that the story of their characters will have a beautiful ending and that they will be able to live happily together in the end. After everything they have been through, I really want them to get the happiness they deserve. ❤️

Interesting mix of crime thriller-horror-supernatural elements, but the good part ends there

Couldn't go on beyond episode 5, Tongtong notwithstanding. Even though the storyline was quite novel the loopholes were way too many.

BL-Needle Score: 8. High BL-ness

The drama is novel in its crime thriller-horror-supernatural elements, but the good part ends there......I had waited to see Tongtong as a BL-drama lead ever since his act as the super handsome, uber-supportive bro in Khun Chai (To Sir, With Love), and was very pumped about this show.....but as I sat through the first few episodes of Nour, it disappointed me...

Among other things, the script seemed half-hearted with zero homework done on how real world scenarios would look like for a crime thriller....for example, how police interrogations would actually look like (instead of one investigating officer borderline trying to mock-flirt another in front of the suspect), how an investigating officer who is stringent about doing it alone (Ken) is expected to behave-handle the evidence he gathered (instead of keeping it neatly stacked on his office table that is) and the kind of thorough knowledge and understanding Ken is expected to have about humans and their evolving technology for someone who had lived through 200 years without dying (instead of not knowing how to use a smartphone, he did not time travel, you dodos) ...sigh.... the list is endless....and even though I sat through the few episodes to find a saving grace for this Tongtong starer that I had so waited for, I could find none....

I just wish Tongtong lands a lead role in a BL-drama with a more thought-through script in the coming days :((

Verdict: Watch only if you have nothing better to watch

Are the Conversations written by AI???

The Story Idea has Potential and the couples do have chemistry. I don‘t think the Problem lies with the actors in this case. My Problem are the kind of weird and pointless conversations. The feel like they don‘t have a red thread to them. Like… they know each other for Like 5 Day and they are like, „I love you and will allways protect you?“ Idk the convos kinda feel Like AI written to me🙌🏻

I'm obsessed

The plot, the acting, the chemistry, the tension, and the height difference is just sooooo perfect. I specifically like the way they act with their eyes, you can really tell how much hard work they put just to bring life to their characters. I just want to thank the actors, the director, and the staff for bringing this masterpiece into my life. I can't even bring myself to watch other series because of Nour, they are all I can think about.

Best series of the year!!!

Nour stands out because it completely breaks the mold of what we usually expect from a BL series. Instead of relying on a light, conventional romance formula, it leans hard into a dark, atmospheric, and dense supernatural thriller.
The core dynamic between James—the impulsive cop who can read human intentions—and Captain Ken—the tired, centuries-old immortal looking for an end—gives the story a heavy, grounded emotional anchor. When you add in the medical mysteries tackled by the supporting duo of the forensic doctor and his assistant, the whole thing evolves into a mature, psychologically rich ride. Ultimately, it feels like a cinematic blend of fantasy lore, gritty police procedural, and high-tension slow-burn romance that keeps you hooked on its unique vibe.
And what I love most about Nour is that after every episode, it's impossible not to cook up a million theories about what's going to happen next and rewatch the whole thing just to hunt for tiny details and clues.
Highly recommended for its top-notch quality all around—you won't regret it!
