Chinese dramas now have a dedicated organization working to spread the word about them!

On November 4, the 2026 China Radio and Television Quality Content Creation Conference opened at the Beijing Conference Center, hosted by the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) and the Beijing Municipal Government. At the TV drama and web drama forum held that afternoon, the China TV Drama Production Industry Association officially launched its new Communications Committee.

Who's in charge

Screenwriter and producer Liang Zhen Hua, known for dramas such as "Garden of Beauty" and "The Inner Eye", was named chair of the committee. Leng Song, Huang Lan, Zhang Lin and Wang Yu were named vice chairs, with Zhang Lin overseeing day-to-day operations.

The committee was unveiled by Feng Sheng Yong, director of the NRTA's TV drama department, and Hou Hong Liang, president of the China TV Drama Production Industry Association and the producer behind hits such as "Nirvana in Fire", "The Story of Ming Lan" and "Like a Flowing River", together with the committee's leaders.

Liang Zhen Hua said the committee will stay open, collaborative, professional and public-minded, bringing people together to make mainstream voices louder, create a cleaner environment for publicity, keep promotion and creation in sync, and contribute to the high-quality development of Chinese dramas.

The committee's five main jobs

  • Bring the industry together: Recruit members from across the industry, including media outlets, streaming platforms, production companies, talent agencies, universities and research institutions.
  • Amplify mainstream voices: Coordinate media and promotion around major themes, key dramas and important industry events.
  • Handle public opinion issues: Set up a system to receive industry complaints and hold industry reviews, encourage fair and rational criticism, and push back against malicious hype, deliberate smears and online extortion.
  • Train publicity professionals: Run annual training programs and build pools of communications talent and experts.
  • Take C-dramas global: Combine overseas promotion resources to support the international distribution and promotion of quality Chinese dramas.

Membership is open to media professionals, creators, platforms, production companies, scholars and marketing and international communications professionals, who can apply through the committee's official "Guo Ju Chuan Bo" WeChat account.

What do you think this will mean for C-dramas overseas?
