The horror film Salmokji: Whispering Water has surpassed 3 million moviegoers.

The Korean Film Council announced on May 10 that Salmokji: Whispering Water exceeded a cumulative total of 3 million admissions that day. It achieved the milestone in just 33 days since its release on April 8.

On May 4, Salmokji surpassed Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, which drew 2.68 million moviegoers, to become the second most-attended Korean horror film of all time. It remains to be seen whether it will break the all-time record of 3.14 million admissions set by A Tale of Two Sisters.

Director Lee Sang Min, who helmed the film, expressed his gratitude to audiences in an interview celebrating the movie surpassing 3 million admissions.

Director Lee said, "The result was completely unexpected, so it still doesn't feel real," adding, "It reminds me of the moments on set when I talked with the staff and would say, 'Let's hope many people will watch it.'"

He continued, "I felt a great sense of fulfillment as a director when I heard audience say, 'I don't think I'll be able to go near the water for a while,'" adding, "That reaction was the closest to the sense of 'experience' I wanted to convey to viewers through the film."

Salmokji: Whispering Water is a horror film that unfolds when an unidentified figure appears on the Salmokji road-view footage, prompting a crew to return to the reservoir for a reshoot, only to come face-to-face with something lurking in the dark, deep water.
