Any drama with the matriarchy tag will unfortunately have me running to it like a rabid bloodhound 😭 So I already watched half and it's... alright.
It's reminding me Ye Cheng Fu in a lot of ways, which is both a good and bad thing, since YCF is of my lower rated matriarchy dramas, lol. It commits less to the trope than YCF tho, which is kinda crazy to me since it's a vertical and has less censorship. I guess it truly was a deliberate choice 💀 Lucky us.
The beginning was the juiciest with the tension and animosity between the leads and a ML that surprisingly isn't as mdom as I was expecting him to be (he is also extremely pretty, like omg). The FL on the other hand... leaves a LOT to be desired... 😬

Oooh, ML is very pretty! The premise sounds good, so I hope it's not a bait-and-switch.
This is the RR/RR-leaning content I've watched recently:
Crown Prince, Meet Your Bandit Queen (Vertical): Bandit FL x Prince ML. Their fathers are actually friends and set up an arranged marriage between them, but of course FL has the wrong idea about the prince without ever having seen him, and thinks he's evil + ugly. She takes matters into her own hands and kidnaps a beautiful man to keep as her "captive husband", who of course, turns out to be the prince. The prince hides his identity because he wants to learn the secret behind the bandits' impressive weapons, and of course they fall in love in the process.
Starts out strong with some cute and funny RR moments (especially when the FL tries to get ML to use his pretty "masculine wiles" to seduce another man for the betterment of the bandit colony lol). Unfortunately, the drama gets a little too goofy (machine guns in a historical???), and starts dragging near the end. It would've been better with thirty minutes shaved off the runtime.
Bow Before the Ruthless Princess (Vertical): Transmigrated FL x Crossdressing Prince ML. Original FL is mute, but dies and a ruthless woman from another dynasty transmigrates into her body. New FL has all of old FL's memories so she seeks revenge on old FL's crappy family, including cheating fiancé and half-sister. ML pretends to be one of ML's maids because she's in possession of a necklace he needs.
I like that FL catches onto ML pretty quickly. It's fun watching her tease him–esp during bath-time 😏 FL is actually ruthless, so the revenge is satisfying. And the drama remains pretty RR. A solid 3 out 5 vertical.
General Fell For Her Toy Boy (Vertical): Princess/General FL x Blind ML. FL is a valiant, feared general who was about to marry one of the chancellor's sons, but he runs off with another man—oop!—and steals an important military tally. Angry, she storms the family home and forces his blind older brother to marry her instead. As you can guess, the blind older brother isn't who he seems either.
Go. watch. this. now. I'm shouting this drama's praises from the rooftop because it's sooooo good! The acting, directing, chemistry, music—everything sucks you in. It's a relatively unique plot for a historical vertical (finally), and the RR is done so deliciously. It's a must-watch!
Learning to Love (Full-length series): Halfway through ep 1, and it's intriguing, but idk how I'm gonna feel about the ML lollllll. FL is also a bit clumsier than I'd like, but we shall see. Sticking with it for now.

They're trad-leaning egal that are only considered even the slightest bit of RR due to external circumstances, tbh (that is, him being a poor host and her being wealthy), so I'm not surprised you feel meh about it. And yeah, ML is the type that you tend to dislike.

If both things are good, I can see myself sticking with it despite finding ML annoying. And dare I say interesting-looking? Lol. He's definitely not bad-looking, but my eyes are confused.

I just got the chance to watch Di Que and I love verticals like this one that are overly ambitious with their plot 😅😆seriously, it felt like the material for a full drama. The regent x emperor pairing was really intriguing as a premise, I've never seen that before. I would love to see another RR historical drama with that type of pairing :)
It totally had material for a full-length! It would be extremely interesting but I know censorship would NEVER allow them to take the plot in the direction they did. I was so happy that he eagerly abdicated his throne to her to become her consort! He wanted to be a consort soooo bad 🥺
I also loved the regent FL x emperor ML! First time seeing it and hoping I'll get to see it again! Also how eager he was to be hers 😂 The amount of times he tried to give himself to her and how pouty he became when it didn't work out? Too cute! The scene where his mom had gotten FL sick and after they both recover he says he should give himself to her (FL) as compensation for his mother's wrongdoings? HAHA!!! Or when the mom tried to get him with the other princess and he confronts her while in bed with FL but he's acting like the concubine? Peak
I'm glad someone else watched this drama and liked it! I really enjoyed it despite shortcomings here and there, lol.
