I finished A Splendid Match yesterday. The cast did a great job, and I especially like Ci Sha, Ren Min and Winwin! They were excellent in their roles. A special mention to Ci Sha, who gave a compelling portrayal of Chen Yan Yun 👍. I also like the supporting characters such as Qing Pu, Chen Yi, the young emperor, Gu Lan (I like her development) etc.

The main leads' romance is one of the strong points for me. Their chemistry is 🔥.Their interactions feel so natural and real, and their intimate and romantic/sweet moments are a joy to watch! I also appreciate that they showed the family/social dynamics and political intrigue in the drama. However, the ending feels rushed. Would have been good to have more episodes (not sure if they are still constrained by the 40 episode rule) or an epilogue to tie up other parts of the plot. Despite this, I still find ASM to be a very good, enjoyable and entertaining drama overall ❤️.

Iirc the rules got changed last year, a friend told me. Can't remember the exact month she told me, maybe since Q3 of 2025. The first title I remembered having more than 40 episodes was Swords into Plowshares which had 48 episodes. Not sure if there's a drama I didn't know having more than 40 episodes before SIP, since I didn't pay attention to every released C-titles. Heard there's a plan to make a 100 episodes drama. Wow, gotta avoid that one at all cost.

Cw The Heir, it is great anyway. Initially I thought it's going to be like Blossom in Adversity, but somehow it's more similar to Flourished Peony. And my, wasn't Yang Zi's team genius? Got great actors as male leads all the time. I remembered Li Xian accepted Flourished Peony (He rarely did costume titles non republican, yeah there's Soul Snatcher which he and his best friend did together, oh it's out of context) because of Yang Zi, so I assumed she had a say or can give recommendation for casting. And wasn't Han Dong Jun just starred in the same republican drama with Yang Zi's male bff last year. So, maybe? Oh, I'm gossiping...

Hi autumn iris, unable to quote your post too, so replying here. Oh yes, I remember hearing about the 40 episode rule being lifted last year, just not sure if ASM made it to the cutoff.

100 episodes is a lot! 😄.

Hi ElementalStar, I'm unable to quote your post, so just replying here. Didn't know Zhan Zhao Adventures has started airing, thanks for sharing 🥰! Now I'm deciding whether to start Zhan Zhao Adventures or a modern drama starring Gong Jun and Ren Min, Hold a Court Now.

ZZA is surprisingly fun action with some good humor and comradery while being a serious investigator drama. It's the perfect work out drama for me so I love it. Been a while since a fight heavy wu xia has been this good.

I’m watching the heir by yangzi what about you

I need to start that. I've heard good things.

Currently I'm watching A Splendid Match, Zhan Zhao Adventures, Vow in Ashes, Bloom in Turmoil, and Pursuit of Jade.

Watching The Heir. And after a long loooooong time a Cdrama has captured my interest like this one has. The story is great, the plot is nothing unusual, ML looking for revenge with a hidden identity while FL works on building a career against the prejudiced people of her industry.

What lifts the show from great to amazing are the performances from all the actors and the level of detail that is used in weaving the story around the ink industry of ancient China. I am a sucker for good context and attention to details and I also own a couple of ink sticks for Chinese Calligraphy and painting, therefore learning the historical aspect of this item/ its roots, creation and rich history is immensely interesting and captures my imagination.

I dont know if they used sets for the show, but the homes look so realistic, the lanes look like what I would expect from Ming dynasty era and lend a hyper-realistic background to the whole show.

Back to the actors, each one is doing a phenomenal job. FL's family just makes me go awwww. Her brother cracks me up, he's so happy to "help" her but somehow never quite manages to, but his enthusiasm is certainly appreciated! Her interactions with her grandfather specially tug at my heartstrings and wish for things that will never happen, but I can enjoy them in dramaland.

I am at episode 14 and cannot wait to watch through to the very end. That has not happened in longer than I can remember for full length format Cdramas.
