@Tiffany, So sorry you got sick on your trip! I don’t travel much anymore because my chronic health problems get worse when I travel, and I end up spending half the trip in bed. Luckily I got to travel a lot when I was younger, so I don’t feel too bad about it. Of course I would like to see the far east now, but I’ll just have to live vicariously through others. And through my shows, of course!
One great thing about San Diego, though, is we have many large Asian communities, so you can get any kind of authentic Asian food imaginable. The Filipino area is a bit far from me, but I often get excellent Chinese (divided regionally), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai food. I also tried a Laotian restaurant, which was similar to Thai. There are also supermarkets and convenience stores from Asia. And we have some great tea houses, which I love trying. Lots of places do K-pop themed events too. Whenever I watch Asian shows, I look up the food if they mention names, so I can understand what they’re eating. I look up lots of other stuff too, like history and geography and language.
I have been trying to learn Thai, but my middle-aged brain just doesn’t absorb information like it did when I was younger. Still, I pick up a lot from shows.
Thai word of the day: naksadaeng=actor. I can’t possibly name one a favorite Asian actor, so here’s our Domundi boys from Mr. Fanboy:
