GL as a drama genre came out of the BL genre, so it inherited its tropes and conventions from BL, and was largely made by the same people and companies. So that's a bold statement to make. But I assume you're just expressing loyalty to sapphics or something? It's fine to have a personal preference.

Tbh I watch more BL than GL and yeah, sometimes some BL series have strange plot, but I wish GL had the same variety as BL and het series. We just don't see as much novelty in GL, which is why I tend not to watch it. Would be nice if we had something like KP or Not Me GL versions for example. I'll also take RevLove GL version, because that series is so good, we need a lesbian ver.

The BL genre is over 10 years old, while GL is only 3 😅
By the end of this year we'll have the first horror GL, and the first GL that takes place inside a prison. We've already had time travel and reincarnation GL... We're gradually moving towards variety.

Precisely. GL has actually diversified faster than BL did. Romcoms are simply more marketable, especially with the success of romcoms in the BL scene. Easier to find funding. Several projects of varied genres and storylines are actually cancelled or stuck in limbo because of lack of funding. Other projects are subject to a lot of criticism because not only is GL new, but the cast and crew are also often new to scene - and it shows (just as it does in several BL projects).
The key is to get a feel for what production houses, directors, screenwriters, and actors/actresses you like. And what qualities can be attributed to each. Quite a few of us are quite critical of certain GL directors in here. And I myself am very critical of two companies that are trying to poke into GL.
But theres a lot of exciting projects ahead. Im excited. ^-^
