GL Drama Lovers Club

I've just finished "My Lady's Bodyguard" and here are my thoughts.

It's a very low budget drama with decent acting from the two leads (but not from most of the support cast), with good cinematography and sound, but with a cheesy and predictable script. The action scenes, which consisted mostly of sword fights were hilariously bad, but the several intimate scenes were really good, better even than some intimate scenes I've seen from dramas with much higher budgets. The two leads have chemistry and know how to kiss.

Even with its significant faults, I still enjoyed this drama. For me, its fluffy cuteness exceeded its general terribleness.

If you're a fan of super fluffy rom coms, and don't mind switching your brain off while watching, then you'll probably enjoy this. If that doesn't describe you, then perhaps give this drama a miss.

There are just so many good ones now. Can you tell us what sort of dramas you prefer? But for now, I'll just give you two suggestions.

ClaireBell - In my opinion THE best Thai GL series made so far. It is a mature gritty drama set in a women's prison.

Love Design - A cute rom com set in an Architect company.

There are plenty of others. Perhaps when you tell us what sorts of dramas you like best, we can recommend some more.

I made my friend watch ClaireBell and she gives it a 7, that is criteria for a break up imho! But she loved it mostly and I have few other friends so shrug

I'm having such a hard time getting through the episodes, having to rewind over and over as I miss out on stuff because her ABS

Like oh my goodness she is absolutely stunning, and they knew what they were doing with those tattoos but her ABS??? How are we to live

And I feel terrible for Peem all the time but she gets to be Bulan's little baby so there's that

The way Master Bulan looks at her and the aggressive protectiveness 😭🫴

I turn into a blubbering mess everytime she's on screen.

Moonshadow ep6

I have to admit I was bored for the first half of this episode. It just seemed like the “happy couple era” didn’t have much tension. I wasn’t really feeling invested in any of it until the scene between Key and Jay. Then they laid Namtan on us, and I did a 180. I thought I loved Emi, but apparently I love Namtan more, because I was glued to my screen as soon as she showed up. I loved the scene where Jay asked to be slapped. (Is that weird?) And, wow, when Namtan walked in wearing that captain’s uniform, I swooned. I didn’t even know I liked uniforms. Lol. I hope that’s not the last we see of Namtan.

The episode ended with the appearance of veteran Thai actress Um Apasiri Nitibhon as Chan’s mother. I love her, so I’m excited to see what she brings to the show. It looks like things will get interesting again. I hope so.

I was waiting to binge this show after it finished airing, but now I’m getting tempted to catch up and watch it weekly.

Could you point me in the direction of the novels you're talking about, because I'd like to check them out and see if I like them.

Ok so this is kinda a tricky spot, what is good

Is it a good story? Lexa Luther is definitely someone you should check out. If you'd like more story then https://www.goodreads.com/series/260925-the-alpha-god it's sci-fi and there's great tension but you can skip the sex scenes. If you'd prefer more steam then https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53861516-of-iron-and-gold

Coming to Lily X., https://www.goodreads.com/series/367758-seventh-star series is gold and there are some interesting dynamics but the issue is she writes some dubcon and straight up noncon but with (a long list of) warnings that are listed. So these are probably morally "bad" but I got you, just skip Book 5 (Truly Yours) of the series and her standalone Wrath of a King. I think unhealthy power dynamics are kind of ingrained into abo and it's hard to escape (if one is trying anyway) but Lexa Luther is safe
