i definitely agree with you, crash lading on you was disappointing for me

I am so glad I am not the only one who feels this.

 Arclei:
10-12 is long enough

And sometimes dramas still don't have enough plot to fill that

If we're being real, most romance and comedy plots aren't elaborate enough to warrant more than 12 episodes. And it's 50/50 when it comes to action and suspense/thrillers. I can only make a strong argument for 16+ episodes for historical, time travel, and sci-fi (which we don't even get a ton of) dramas.

 Arclei:
same with cdramas btw.

I'm so glad the government got involved and capped their dramas at 40 episodes per season. Even they knew it was a problem. It was getting ridiculous. 40-something episodes for a modern-day romance? 70 episodes for a historical???

This is literally the only time I've looked at censorship and thought, "Hmm. I get it." XD

 Arclei:
Only jdramas respect your time

Definitely one of their positives!

Chicago Typewriter - the hairstyle (Yoo An In's present day character) ruined the drama for me

How interesting that you said this. In the last few days I've dropped two dramas because I couldn't handle the hairstyle of the MLs.

Two for me are:

Queen of Tears. I didn't even make it through the first episode.

Flower of Evil. I had really looked forward to this one because of Lee Joon Gi and the story was pretty interesting, but somehow I just barely made it through four episodes and had to quit. (I did read recaps so I would know how it ended.) Part of it was that I just didn't buy the ML/FL as a couple in love.

Twinkling watermelon, The glory,  Lovely Runner,  My name and my demon.

The glory is a CDrama. Is itnt?

I agree, tho. There's so much meandering and slow asf scenes that drag on forever. And with the 1hr+ episodes, I just struggle sm. So many kdramas could've just been movies, lmao

No, because same... dramas keep getting longer and more boring. They don't even try anymore (even with the ep cap, like good grief). I do have sad news to report that... they seem to have lifted the 40ep cap ban... :))

40 eps for anything other than a historical is diabolical work and honestly... I've not yet seen a cdrama that couldn't have been 24 episodes or less 💀 Contemp romcoms being anything over 24 is crazy work.

Yes, but also a KDrama. https://kisskh.at/685237-untitled-kim-eun-sook-project

Yes, there is a K-drama. I even watched it. :-)

Sorry, I forgot.

I could not get past the first few episodes of:

  • Taxi Driver
  • Queen of Tears (not even ep 1 finished)
  • Boys Over Flowers (not even ep1 finished even though I've seen almost all the other adaptions. Ngl the boys' hairstyles are especially off-putting)
  • Crash Landing on You
  • Angel Last Mission: Love
  • Goblin/Guardian

Good starts but lost me half way:

  • The King: Eternal Monarch
  • My Demon
  • Tale of the Nine Tailed
  • Lovely Runner

I think I will eventually finish The King and Lovey Runner but My Demon is sacked and Tale of the Nine Tailed probably as well- depends on how appealing the prequel looks.

I loved Alchemy of Souls 1+2 but I watched it as it was airing with no expectations- if I'd experienced all the hype before trying it I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much. The hype around Twinkling Watermelon is definitely putting me off starting it.

Not seen some of the other "classics" like Descendants of the Sun - I feel like maybe I came too late to Kdramas and benefitted from their legacy so the originals don't hit right for me.

What a funny world we live in when we need a disclaimer in order not to release the wrath of certain dramas' superfans!

Mine are:

Goblin - age gap? BTW, I did not expect this many people to put it on their list here!
One Spring Night - horrible FL

Omg same!

Although I finished it I also loathed the FL in One Spring Night so much that I can't warm to the actress in things since eg Love Scout. I'm glad I saw Rooftop Prince first so could still appreciate the humour untainted.

Say it ain't so??????!!!!!

Same I too don't like the FL in One Spring night.

One Spring Night was one of the first dramas I watched: right after Something In The Rain I wanted some more of ML. I was not dropping anything yet so I finished it! But I ended up hating it! The FL was awful, but not only! The overall plot...awful!  People who do not like this drama are few and far between....I could never understand the love it gets.

Seems to be rumors mostly, but said to be the case for high-budget/quality dramas, which Swords into Plowshares having aired with 48 eps proves.

 Arclei:

"This could've been an email" type energy LOL.

I fear you're right.

No way!! D: Where did you see this??

I think the 40 ep limit is directly linked to how much better modern-day C-dramas have gotten in the past couple of years. If the government lifts the ban, production companies, tv stations, and ad companies will get greedy again, and start making 50 episode dramas with plots as thin as string cheese.

 Arclei:
I've not yet seen a cdrama that couldn't have been 24 episodes or less 💀

Straight facts. Even a lot of historicals can be that or less. But no...someone in the court's gotta plot for six whole episodes.
