My "top" list (my all time favourites)
Among my all time favourites: a proper historical, a period drama during the Reform and Opening Up, a modern thriller, an environmental drama and a xianxia. This is a total subjective list that mixes objectively perfect dramas with imperfect ones.

Inspiring, lighthearted, with humour but also touching. Based on the real events of Longgang city, Zhezhian, built with the funds and efforts of its own residents in the 80s and early 90s.
Flawless and perfect from start to finish.

Very sad, very beautiful, very moving. Not for the faint of heart.

4. The Long River
Chinese Drama - 2022, 40 episodes
Epic historical drama during Kangxi era (Qing dynasty) . Powerful story and acting, it won't leave you untouched.

5. Till the End of the Moon
Chinese Drama - 2023, 40 episodes
An epic ten thousand years fight between evil and good, told with focus on the character development of Tan Tai Jin and the tragic love story with his nemesis. Phylosophycal quest about fundamental human existence and more large concepts (fate, freedom of choice, individual vs collective good).
The show brought innovation to the genre, xianxia, in 2023. It was a trend setter in storytelling, main themes, aesthetics and CGI. Iconic main character, superbly portrayed by the lead actor.
I´ll copy part of a review of Pkook user here because she summed up my thoughts perfectly: "The drama refuses easy comfort. Love does not undo trauma, goodness does not erase darkness, and sacrifice does not promise reward. Yet within that refusal lies its beauty: the quiet belief that choosing kindness, even once, can echo across eternity. - Imperfect, emotionally demanding, and unforgettable"
