To me, the most thing I am disappointing off is the comments...

I can see that those people didn't even read the manga. The only thing that was changed is the homeroom teacher that has changed into BL instead of making him prejudice (and a bit homophobe at first) like in the manga. However, the story is the same!!!

They have changed a bit by taking inspiration from the original BL series AND the manga, yet the story is nearly the same so far. So instead of judging the series, you are in fact criticizing Wataru Hinekure (the author) manga. Plus, I am completely in love with Chokun Puttipong and Pahn Pathitta. It is very rare in a BL story that I like the straight relationship, but those two are amazing and SO CUTE!!! Chokun Puttipong is 18 and will certainly become a success in either BL or regular drama. But I think those two should keep working together for a while. They are so good that Gemini Fourth's acting showed more about their real connection.

Now, about the story: It's about two (or four) young people falling in love for the first time. We also can see the difference between a straight relationship and a gay relationship. Being worried about what your parents may think, and how prejudice the world is. Its also to be taken into the fact that it's in Asia, where family is everything. In the manga it seems so easy compare to real life, yet the real feelings from the characters are quiet reliable to those who remember their first love. First "I love you", first kiss, first date... Put the sexuality on top and you have those two.
Kisses are rare in the manga, and so it should be in the series. Respecting the original work is important, so I suggest to those who criticise easily to read it first.

Me too. I guess Taereung Zombie Village was buried aka is not happening. (note that the "writer" did not check…
Actually they already said and advertised it was from the novel. But you're right, that's why they had the conference. If they advertised that it was taken from a novel and follow the plot, but took the BL out of it saying "it's not in the original work", who are you paying the rights to? Plus, the "original" work is not that original. I've seen stories of body switch all my life. Not only in dramas, but in webtoon and novels. So it is more like a genre than an original. The only thing similar is the gangster part.

So no, it wouldn't have been plagiarism (especially in Asia were original works are not as protected than Europe or America). The stories are also VERY different in every way. It's like taking a cord in a song and take credit for a song than have nothing in commun. We saw this many time and it's always dismissed because plagiarism has to tell the exact same story.

If you take Harry Potter and Star Wars, the core story is the same, so is it plagiarism? They tried to deny the fact that they took the work from the novel and just cleared the BL part as it was on a public channel and were scared that the story wouldn't attract as much people. So the million of fans they expected just didn't watch it (At least not on official channels).

So why did they advertised it as "taken from the novel" and not "from the original work"? AND why use the same name as the novel and not use the original? Because they tried to attract the BL fans of the novel and put two popular celeb as Main Characters. It's easy to say "original work" because it wasn't original. The story has been told in various manners. Gangster, king, etc... I mean how many dramas exist with that kind of stories already?

So, to me it is BS to be defending a lie without even realizing the stupidity of this argument. The whole story was rom the novel. The "original" as only a very death part between a kid and a gangster that is similar, but nothing else. Yet, it's exactly the same as the novel WITHOUT the BL part. And the reason is that the studio (the one who made Unintentional Love Story in 2023) didn't want to have another BL stories on a mainstream chanel. Especially after the hatred the lead received for getting married.

I'd rather see him as a vampire or zombie. When is the zombie one coming out?
But what about "Heartbeat" from last year??? He can't only do vampire movies. I'm happy for any actors not to stop to one genre. BL is also something many of his fans would love, despise the homophobic fans he can have. That shows how open he is with ALL of his fans. He has done so many dramas and he was perfect in all of them (especially in Vincenzo). So doing a BL is a big challenge for ANY actors. That will not change his own sexuality just because he does a BL. So yes, I am looking forward to it and just hope he does a good job in it.

Me too. I guess Taereung Zombie Village was buried aka is not happening. (note that the "writer" did not check…
The problem of "Zombie Village" was the writer's rights that wasn't respected. Im not sure about the details but in June 2023 BIFAN from the 'Film + Copyright Forum' organised an event in collaboration with DGK and the Korea Manhwa Film Promotion Agency to develop K-content and protect creators' rights with writer Lim Tae-woon of the novel 'Taereung Zombie Village' among others to talk about how writers were not paid enough to use their work on dramas in Korea, and hw their work were changed without respecting the original plots. It follows the writer's right from America. "Recently, various copyright issues have been raised, from 'Black Rubber Shoes' to 'Squid Game', so it is expected to be a meaningful place to seek ways to protect creators' rights".

They also talked about the video aspect o it as "who is the creator then when the work is changed". We recently had the paradox of it with "High School Return of a Gangster" this year (2024) when they took the BL off the original work because they thought the "BL aspect is not that popular to keep". Result : it was a flop in Korea as Fan's banned it and the production couldn't pay their 140 actors because of it (settled in court and they have until August to pay).

To come back to Zombie Village, it seems it has been cancelled. Neither SBS or Ok Taec Yeon said it was on production or anything. In fact, everything about it was deleted. TY usually put picture of his dramas in production in his Insta and it is not the case for this one. HOWEVER, they didn't loose the production cost and made a new drama called "My Zombie Daughter" based on the popular Naver webtoon "My Daughter Who Became a Zombie".

Ok Taec Yeon was still very busy anyway as it was the 15th anniversary for 2PM with concerts and fan meet. Plus, he was in Heartbeat that year and filmed a Japanese movie called "Grand Maison Paris" which brought him to the role in Japanese BL "Soulmate".

I wonder why se kyung i so hell bet on finding out what happened to yi heon, and im not sure whether he is happy…
Well, yes it's originally a BL novel, so the true nature is that Choi Se Kyung is gay and so is Kim Deuk Pal as a gangster. He couldn't be himself due to his position, but become himself as Song Yi Heon. On the other hand Song Yi Heon wasn't gay, but was bullied by family and schoolmates. His attitude with Choi Se Kyung was a way to fight him.
The novel was about fighting status and homophobia in two different world: Gangsters AND wealthy families. The line between the two is blurred.

Heyyy i know you guys don't like the fact they removed the BL element but omg why is the rating on 4.7 the first…
Well, good??? It's a remake of "the dude in me". The BL and the homophobia was what made the story different. Now, it will be very similar... And 8 episodes for a full action novel? Really???

I completely agree with the comment left on the-bl-xpress.com by Ian Reid on FEBRUARY 6, 2024

'I don’t mean to be rude but why are you, a BL channel, promoting a production that has deliberately removed all the BL from a BL novel? This story was written by the author as a morality tale against homophobia which has ironically been shown is alive and well by the very makers of this series. I don’t think you should be supplying free publicity to this production after their decision to gut the gay. It just feels like you are pandering to their prejudice."

He understood exactly why I was so upset reading about the removal of the BL aspect by No 3 Pictures who produced the BL “Unintentional Love Story”. When we know the popularity of BL worldwide, it makes no sense!!!

It was the first drama I watched with an already married couple. We always wonder of "What will happen after?" Well, the young version o them could have had his own drama, and it would be a love story. Here, it's the struggle of a husband married to a chaebol's family. Crushed by his step-family, misunderstood by his wife, he's ready to quit, even if he loves his wife. That's what I liked. And he wasn't the strong, mature guy. No, he was the kind, romantic husband that anybody would fall for. He was also a very emotional person (like me, who cry all the time watching dramas).

So, a very well written and played drama and that deserved to be recognise. I hope they'll win a prize for it this year!!!
