I finished it! I stuck through and watched the remaining episodes and I'm actually really glad I did. Instead…
Yea, come to think of it, it's rather unconventional compared to many other romcoms of recent years where there's always either some sort of toxic relationship, drama for drama's sake, obligatory love triangles, prolonged misunderstandings, etc. - these tropes became romcoms staple it seems. But this one is just a pure and sweet drama with nice characters that you don't have to stress about while watching it. Personally, I think kdramaworld needs more like it.
A very silly drama, but quite watchable if you don't take it seriously. The last episode was especially satisfying and fluffy, covered all the bases and wasn't rushed at all. But overall I loved side characters stories and their actors performance more than the main leads and SML - the eunuch and the court lady, all those hilarious seolo guys, king's secretary and the old seer (great trolls! 🤣), mangaka/painter and the waitress girl, etc. Even Hwa Yoon, a very late addition to the drama, was way cooler than FL. I'm giving it a 7.5 overall, can't give it higher because of the very silly plot.
P.S. Loved the drone shots from on high that showed that historical city set where they film all their historical dramas. That place is huge, like a real city! Also, that manor at the center, where the eunuch and the court lady retired, was Jang Uk's house in Alchemy of Souls.
dude, did you not check the tags?? it's like me watching business proposal and being like "omg i cant stand romance"…
I’ve seen them, but was badgered to watch it with high recommendation from a friend. Also, gotta check why the scores are so high. In the end, definitely not for me.
Indeed, if it continues like that I think I'll drop it. Season 1 was already boring and cliche, adding two very annoying side characters only made it worse in season 2.
Whom do you mean? FL?But she did change - she stopped taking bs from ML (that pillow fight was the last straw)…
It seems you've dropped it half way through and haven't finished watching it, so there was no point to my argument whatsoever. Characters do undergo character development as I've written above though, especially ML. I'd recommend watching it until the end to have an informed opinion, but whatever, seems like you've made it already.
What?!!!! Really? Oh come on! Which episode? I was afraid something like this might happen.
It wasn’t a real kiss, some prudish people here just like to exaggerate. It was just something FL had to do to save Yul’s life from the bloodworm and he was unconscious at the time.
EDIT/ some people are massively upset that I don't "understand" this show because i "only" watched and been dissapointed…
Whom do you mean? FL? But she did change - she stopped taking bs from ML (that pillow fight was the last straw) and gained courage to pursue her dream career in earnest (while in the beginning she had no confidence in herself and suffered from stage fright). Or do you mean ML? Being very flawed he got way bigger character development than FL, if you couldn't see even that then you need glasses, or something.

My favorite about the palace intrigues is Kingdom though. But it's a thriller.
