Love story was very cringe because FL is such a stupid dumbass. Also, her role would have benefited from a more experienced actress. By the end I just started skipping romantic scenes. But I liked the politicians and spies story - which is really the main focus of this drama. Romance here feels like a misleading bait. Not too bad overall, support cast full of veteran actors nailed their roles.
I would say the wrong title for the last 10 episodes cause the love was crazy indeed but it only lasted a few…
Yea, crazy stuff basically stopped by episode 9 (but that's like half of the episodes, not just a few), when the main reason for it was resolved for FL and ML came to appreciate her sticking with him despite everything and stopped being a dick to her. However I disagree that their relationship wasn't shown sufficiently, on the contrary. This drama doesn't rush with character exposition and growth. If you paid attention, ML's attitude towards FL started to change from around episode 6 - he quickly got used to her, as you do with all good things, and started to miss her when she wasn't around. Then in episode 8 ML finally saw FL as a beautiful woman and that kiss scene at the end was the trigger, so to speak - he started having romantic feelings towards her. Then that revelation later with her diary pushed him to aknowledge it. Didn't seem out of the blue at all. FL's reasons for loving ML were less clear though, I guess she got used to him too and may have started having some feelings towards him around episode 8, there were scenes about it. However, I think it mainly came to the popular trope seen in other dramas ( What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, Business Proposal readily come to mind) - super confident and charismatic boss started coming on to her like a bulldozer and she just gave up and fell for his charms :)
And writers didn't forget about FL, it's just that her main problem was effectively resolved in the first half of the show and she turned back to her kind and nice self, but with a newfound courage and profound realization how she should be living from now on. Which helped immensely to resolve ML's problems in the second part as she was there to support him. This plot division seemed very deliberate, as one plot point led to the resolution of another. It couldn't have happened in parallel if FL was still dealing with her problem till the very end and continued having crazy bouts with ML, however hilarious they were.
Over the top drama, but it knows it. Acting was superb, especially the very nasty villains. And I still remember FL parodying villainess's dance at the law firm party :D
Better than Goblin by a mile, prove me wrong. The Grim Reapers organization's portrayal here is way more competent and logical. As well as the theme about repenting for your sins from previous lives.
This is one of my favorite dramas, I think it's underrated. It's a very cute, lighhearted and funny drama, but there are actually many interesting serious subplots going on there aside from romance story, if you care to dig in. The major one being how a public person's career can be ruined by easily swayed public opinion. It's real, you can see such sad stories about Korean actors and idols quite frequently. And it doesn't matter if allegations are proven wrong, it's still very hard to come back to work in the industry once the public image is ruined. It takes a strong, thick skinned person to overcome this. There are also several interesting legal cases shown throughout the series, a creepy stalker-san as a villain and funny side plots about law firm's coworkers and ML's friends.
It seems like people are downwoting this show for superficial reasons after dropping it after first two episodes, not giving it a chance, which is a shame. No, FL is not really a dumb diva, but actually is a strong willed, hard working, kind and quite intelligent woman. But she is a bit of a narcissist, because she knows she's very pretty and has high self-esteem. Her main problem is that she acted in so many TV projects, experiences taken from which sometimes interfere with her sense of reality. No, ML is not really an emotionless rude ass - he's an introverted, hard working guy, who quite frankly is overworked at his workplace, so he comes initially as very cranky and intolerant towards incompetence and anybody bringing chaos to his boring scheduled life. He also lacks self-awareness and they're both quite naive in some life aspects, and that's what makes it funny.
All the actors nailed it here, not only the main leads, who have great chemistry together and are great actors in general (I actually liked them here much better than in Goblin). But I also was really impressed with all the secondary cast, which is actually rather rare to see. I especially liked two Yeon relatives - law firm's and entertainment agency's CEOs, they were quite funny.
So if you want a nice, feel good drama with a happy ending without tired cliches like love triangles, angst, LDR, sappy childhood traumas, destiny etc. then give it a try. It's actually much better than many more recent overrated dramas.
Started very good, but then cliches started stacking up to a ridiculous level. And the ending was totally ruined by some last minute dumb plot decisions and being very rushed overall. This show definitely would have benefited from full 16 episodes. But then again, the plot stopped being interesting after about 6 episodes when the masquerade was over and the plot a-la What's Wrong with Secretary Kim? began. ML's actor was fumbling a bit, needs more experience I think. Second ML's actor seemed like he had nothing much to work with - his character was too bland. But FL and second FL totally nailed it, very cute BFFs, I'd rewatch this show just for those two. Not a bad drama overall, but definitely way overrated.
Why is this so underrated? This is a very solid drama, holding strong up until the end. Definitely better than Business Proposal and some other recent ones. I especially liked it's unpredictable plot in the first half and FL's and ML's crazy funny shenanigans. I really liked FL's somber self-reflecting scenes in the first seven episodes and ML's gradual shift of attitude towards her starting from around episode 6. And even though ML turned up as a real cold bastard due to everyone leaving and backstabbing him throughout his life, the show did a good job at portraying the why of it and his eventual path to redemption. So all in all, I liked how the show gradually showed their character growth and how competently all the plot points led to a satisfying conclusion, with a moral to the story even. Not every drama out there can boast the same. Maybe the list of people having a grudge against ML should have been shorter, especially considering some of them were not out there to get him for his nasty demeanor, but for their own selfish reasons. But I think it was done deliberately for that explosive dramatic culmination in the later episodes. A very good drama overall, definitely worth the watch. Starts a bit slow in the first few episodes, but gets very good by the end.
Very overrated. Series could have been shortened by about 6 episodes and nothing would be lost. Also, to prolong time even more there are many overly prolonged scenes and flashbacks. Main couple is very boring, didn't see much chemistry there. ML's actor doesn't have many facial expressions. FL's constant empty blabbering while ML blankly stares at her - that's the plot for like fourth of the series. I get it that she's young and naive, but it sounded like she was 12 or something. ML is very indecisive and melancholic. And in the end their overarching plot was not resolved in any meaningful way, Goblin's story is basically like Highlander. Some inconsistencies and plot decisions were also rather jarring, like: -poor FL, wearing expensive brands clothes, going to some fancy, definitely not free public school; -Grim Reapers having no memories of their sins don't even know what they should repent for, slaving away for the Almighty;
Second couple was more interesting - better actors, better chemistry, they had more interesting plot and it was completed in a more or less satisfying way. But I liked those actors way more in Touch Your Heart, good thing they were cast again together.
Bromance scenes were ok, if a bit self contained.
All in all, a big waste of time. My friend, who also watched it with me even fell asleep one time. There are better, more recent alternative dramas out there. About Grim Reapers, for example - Tomorrow. About reincarnation and ghosts - From Now On, Showtime!.
Trying to find a decent drama among the recent ones is a difficult task I see. Because the scores for some are so overrated, it seems, for various reasons. Like this one. It started interesting - rich bitch FL, ML with a difficult life. The premise about everbody having some quirks and mental issues and overarching moral about not putting labels on people so easily were also good. But then it turned into such a snorefest after about 6 episodes I had to fast forward lots of scenes up into the last one. Lots of predictable cliches, overly prolonged scenes, and villain could be seen from a mile away. ML being such a crybaby all the time and actor's constant use of dramatic pause in conversations was really annoying by the end. FL was more or less ok. Anyway, the only saving grace of this kdrama was the older brother - actor did a really great job at portraying a quirky guy with an autism, loved his acting in Touch Your Heart too. Also, fairy tales' vignettes were cute.
But I liked the politicians and spies story - which is really the main focus of this drama. Romance here feels like a misleading bait.
