may god have already put a delicate and androgynous pretty boy who isn't in war with himself about stupid gender roles somewhere in the universe, waiting for me to find him π
TBOY is still the best tbh. Like yeah this is fancier and darker and edgier but the budget kind of replaced the heart and the acting is very awkward π litterally every single actor in this show stands super stiffly in front of the camera and recites their dialogues like a robot and I feel like the director just told them to do that so that they'd look their hottest in douyin edits. It started bothering me so much after a couple of episodes bc it looks like every actor is in PAIN trying not to move their face and body at all. And btw where did the insane chemistry between pxr and zsa come from?? Like I genuinely lost my mind watching their 5 minutes of screentime tgt π£
Glad cdrama fans are finally starting to clock the fact that whd has too much fragile male ego and his fanbase consists of a LOT of unhinged woman haters. You'd get grounded by his fans if you said this like 5 months ago. I hope we get to openly call out the many other male liuliangs in the industry who are exactly like him ππ»
omg this is so interesting could you send the link about the AOS one? i would love to read about it, especially…
And abt this drama, the styling and costume design is just boring π I agree that the queen's wardrobe probably has the only good pieces of clothing in this show but everything else is so tired it drives me crazy. HJ is such an ostentatious and attention loving character and litterally everything she wears is the most common "quiet luxury" trending outfits in sk right now. It's kind of shocking as well to see color analysis obsessed korea make such poor color choices for iu who looks the best in vibrant colors and dress her in dead pastel colors and nudes and beiges that wash her out 90% of the time!! Like even her supposedly "big" princess gown was nudeπ They kept presenting her outfits as if they were shockingly over the top and gorgeous but she was wearing like a boring red suit or whatever lmao. I've seen so many ppl say IU looks too cute for this kind of a char and that she can't pull it off but I firmly believe it's an styling issue! We all know iu CAN pull off a diva and she has done it in a way that can't be ourdone when her hair and clothes are styled accordingly and actually distinguish her from the real life IU!! (yes I'm talking about hotel de luna) And about the hanbok inspired modern clothing?? Just dissapointing. They tried with the palace uniforms and the prince's outfits but despite the many possibilities and all the room for creativity, it just didn't land and ended up being the boring minimalist train wreck that has plagued global fashion right now. And tbh I really believe fashion would have taken a very different route in sk if monarchy existed and if the royal family made as much influence on popular culture as this show indicates! So I wouldn't really imagine the fashion trends in the extension of joseon dynasty to look exactly like what we see in sk right now! To make it short, the lack of creativity is dissapointing. As I said you can look up the art in goongs' manhwa or even the princess hours drama and see how creative one can be if they take traditional elements and combine them with modern fashion to make stellar pieces. With their budget, they could even rent a miss sohee gown and have one of the characters wear it in the ball since she also designs breathtaking couture inspired by hanbok and traditional korean art but they just lost the opportunity...
You might just live a long life instead :))Jokes aside, Wei Ying and Wei Shi San are family and Wei Ying is close…
Maybe they shouldn't bc I'm gonna take those crumbs and become greedy for them to get paired up in another drama and that is just unlikely to happen π£
I was really happy abt this reunion since I was obsessed with this couple when I was a teenager but I'm really gonna sit in a corner and cry rn like wdym he r4pes her in the show...like I do love a good thriller but did it really have to be THEM to portray this dynamic out of all ppl?? I knew it wasn't gonna be romantic and I was okay with it but this is genuinely hurting my feelings π It's also quite shocking bc it's an mbc drama lol
Hate the lost potential of a costume design in this drama so much I can write paragraphs about it. And funnily enough, I realized this is the same director who worked on AOS, for which I also wrote paragraphs complaining about the awful costuming and hairstyling lol. I just keep looking at princess hours' manhwa panels on pinterest and yearn for what we could have had....
yeah ofc user lizzy blocked me...talking about "pushing the feminism propaganda" bc FINALLY a director decided to actually respect women and stay loyal to originally female centric novels he adapted while the industry is butchering these novels left and right by watering down the female characters in favour of male chars. Thank you dir zqj for believing in the ability of actresses and women's stories to carry dramas and engage the audience. You successfully proved every single producer who ruined woman centric novels bc of their misogynistic prejudices WRONG ^_^
xyl's acting is so soooo bad I genuinely feel guilty about any mediocre idol drama actor I've trash talked π like he somehow can't even SMILE without looking creepily ai generated??? omfggg how can someone who actually made their way into the ent industry not have a scrape of skill or talent to be on camera??? When do these men learn that good looks are just not enough???
Logged in after 3 months to see ppl saying this drama is gone for god knows how long...I've been living with the hope to see it all this time wdyfm it's SHELVED
I feel like some ppl don't really understand how these kinds of gender swaps or stuff like this that seem like unimportant non-issues to them connect to a much bigger issue about the industry with the way they dismiss it as "antis being boring haters". Whether ppl care about the og novel or not, it's dissapointing to see the erasure of women and ppl who are dissapointed aren't tjr antis, they're disappointed bc it's become a very repetitive pattern in the industry. Like yeah I've been obsessed with tjr since his debut and have been waiting for him to do something non gjm forever but I'm dissapointed bc I'm tired of seeing the industry constantly adapt female centric novels into male centric dramas. They either always water down the fem chars to make the mls looks better or just do sth like this. It's a pretty valid complaint tbh π The industry just doesn't believe women can carry projects like this if there isn't a man in it and ppl have the right to be sad about it okay??? All of this being said though, tjr looks pretty cute here and I'm still happy that he's finally getting a chance to get out of gjm's bubble. I'll probably watch it but as someone who cares about the portrayal of women in media, I can't really help the bitter taste in my mouth and I don't think it's fair to call everyone who is critical of this issue an anti or hater!
My thought on this is yes, i don't think people will be interested if the lead is female because this is not romance…
This is such a misogynistic and ancient stereotype though, it's not being "realistic". Women are not brainless airheads who watch and read things only if they have romance with a dude in them. When has the industry ever made an idol drama with a female protagonist and no romance in it out there that makes you assume ppl won't be interested in ti? The problem isn't that women don't like female centric stories without straight romance in them, it's the fact that the industry just sees their female audience as man obsessed idiots so they think these kinds of dramas won't get any attention and just don't make them lmao The proof being that Tencent dropped the very first non romance, female centric 3d donghua ever made last year and it became super popular exactly bc the protagonist was a woman with no male love interest!!
