1. She died protecting him = He died to change her fate
2. She pretended to forget him to save him = He pushed her away to save her life
3. She waited 500 years for his return = He cared for her soul, so she could be reborn
4. She endured pain (which could kill her) to earn her right to be with him = he took nails punishment
5. She gave up her home = He gave up his ambitions

In my opinion this one of the most balanced drama in terms of sacrafices both leads make for each other. It isn't as one sided as in, for ex., TMOPB or LaR.

Also, dont forget all the things she did for him: she saved him in first episode, repaired his family, healed his love tree, teached him to smile and experience joy in life. And as DFQC said only she truly loved him and believed in him despite all his thorns (although I think Shangque should have gotten honorable mention🤣🤣).

I think the only reason why it may seem that DFQC suffered more is because she died earlier in drama than him and we got to see his heartbreak much longer, whereas we see XLH after his death just for 5 mins. And also Dylan is just very good at crying.

I was giving that a thought and I feel it was so smart of production team to do that. We all heard that they were tight on budget so to design and build one place and then use it as different places, while giving it a sentimental meaning is just brilliant 👏 👏 👏

Because although LBFaD is well written, it still follows all typical cliche xianxia plots. They just do it smartly, logically and consistent with the world and charachters they build. And they know how to do their characters justice, not make them annoying and frustrating.

I adored Ancient Love Poetry until last ark you described here. I am a fan of Xu Kai since Legends (another amazing drama with messy last ark) and loved Zhou Dong Yu. But last ark when Bai Jue returns just URGHHH.
In LBFAD we have many romantic moments before finale, their separation wasnt that long, we have DFCQ telling XLH why he lied to her, we have confessions, multiple kisses, and ultimately them working together to defeat the evil and part after confirming their love for each other.
While in ALP for last 10 episodes all we see ML hurting FML, being mean to her, alowing other characters to abuse her, then taking away her memories, make her dissapointed in him, taking away all her rights to choose and then dying alone without explaining to her anything AT ALL. And that's all to protect her.
And then after all that suffering , main couple not having any good romantic moments for more than 10 eps, we get 2 mins ending with ONE HUG. Ugh, not even kiss like in LBFAD, but hug🤬🤬🤬
Those who complain about brief ending of Cang Lan Jue probably just never felt the pain of APL ending😒

When i tried watching Mirror tale twin cities, she annoyed me so much. That drama had many problems though, but i felt she had no chemistry with both her leads🙈

So he died in the past, but she gave him her mortal heart to revive him and change his fate?? Was it literal or hyphothetical to say she loved him? She had mortal and immortal heart? Or if she had immortal heart they can be together after death?

Yeah, where ppl saw open or dream ending I dunno.
The last phrase of the drama was "I AM BACK", I think that was specifically said not to confuse ppl about the ending.

Omg, I am so silly, I just had epiphany while rewatching ep 35 Siming flashback.
Before she said to XLH that "Only love isn't fate". I thought that was just a beautiful phrase, but it was leading up to when she said to DFQC that only he can change XLH fate🤯

Love is not fate, so it can change fate. This drama is so logical in its narrative.
