Maybe because grief got to him. He lost his mom, then found out his dad was the cause of it all. Later his beloved brother turned against him, then found out he lost a sister, oh and then was poisoned to the point he almost went crazy. I think that would take the spunk out of anyone.

IMO, Basically director telling us Blossom has different endings. Leaving room for sequels. Or director is trying to say instead of an open ending they choose to give us this ending. Regardless there are more than one novel lol.
