I'm actually surprised this is not directed by Zeng Qing Jie, because everything is so similar to Butterflied lover, and Iām not even talking about the ML, but the soundtrack, photography, camera angles etc.
Is just me or it looks like they cut off parts of the drama? I'm watching it on Viki, and: The part of the trip, when she make the promise of meeting the "lady" at the festival, I only saw by his memories. The part where they are in the inn, she is fighting with him and out of nowhere he is in top of her. It just look I missed a few things.
I'm feeling conflicted about this drama, I would like to like it more than I do. To be real, I'm just watching it because there isn't anything better right now. The story and characters are a little boring, everything is slow-paced, but the MC romance is sweet.
I have watched a lot of emperors that are awful and I hate, this one is definitely reaching the top list. He is so mean and plotting against everyone around him, the nephew (that he says he love the most), his son's, his brother, the empress and loyal subjects that are honest. I know an emperor is suspicious of all people and have to be careful, but here he is just making everyone's lives just miserable. It makes me want to curse him.
I just finish rewatching this with a smile on my face. I know it's not perfect, specially because of the FL, that can be annoying for making silly fights or fool choices. Moreover, the capital politics is not the greatest moment, the best part of the drama is the first. Even so, you have a lot of good things. One of the best things is Caesar Wu, he is just perfect for the serious general. I also adore the romance and the couple overall, you have a lot of sweet moments and some beautiful declarations. The couple dynamic it's interesting to watch, all the misunderstandings are solved, they have good chemistry and kisses, and I like the way that he defends her in so many situations.
What I was expecting: light funny romance. What did I get: during the middle to the end serious wuxia with a lot of martial arts. I was really not expecting the turn of this drama. Well, it's not bad, it just looks like a completely different drama.
Have you watched the entire series? They do kiss for longer. But I think both actors are not known to have many…

I just love the MLs together, the way they look at each other and how one holds another. But I have to admit they have the worst kissing chemistry ever š š š Even some low budget dramas have better kisses. I was hoping for so much more, well, at least we have a kiss, it's better than nothing.
I just hate the second FL so much, such annoying character, childish and lier. This is the type of character you expect to have a bad ending, but she doesn't, so this get me frustrated.
This drama shows exactly why Jianghu shouldn't get involved with palace politics, the result is disastrous. I have to say that the actors and production are amazing, excellent cast, cool fight scenes, very well made drama. Those are the only things that actually kept me going.
The problem I have here is with the story. If you are in the path for vengeance, why going to the capital and getting so famous, especially if you don't have good martial arts yet. I mean, would not be better just stay out of the radar? Also, at the beginning the ML looked so cunning, but as the drama progress looks like he never was. Because of the story, the drama is very dragging, so much unnecessary characters and moments.
It was surprisingly good! I liked the actors, the pace of the story and the fun OST. It's nice when the drama doesn't try to be something else, it supposed to be a light little drama, and that is what it delivers.
And Zhao Yi Qin is just perfect for costume dramas!
