"Lover's Bug" is an important plot device, implied by TongHua (author/producer) throughout story. Shaman King said, "This bug can be only shared by true lovers. If lovers betrays each other, then it will turn into "Heartbreak bug", and will kill them". Only Xiaoyao & Xiangliu shared it successfully, proves, she loved Xiangliu genuinely. Their bond was the deepest & most heartfelt in the entire story.
If she shared "Lover's bug" with Jing, then she would've died when he married FFYY. Xiaoyao get Jing after Xiangliu saved him from monster & saved her by sacrificing his another life when she died again. In end, she got bittersweet end as her soulmate Xiangliu dies. Author never certified story as happy ending. Its a 'Reverse-Harem' drama with 4 mls. centered upon theme of 'Yearning for Lost Love', titled "Zhang Xiang Si" aka "Lost You Forever", means, Cangxuan lost Xiaoyao while Xiaoyao lost Xiangliu forever. As I said before, in end, doesn't matter who gets girl. Its indeed Xiaoyao's tragedy to get someone like Jing. As Yangzi, even author, hinted, that in end, Xiaoyao only have her own strength to rely on. Main title "Zhang Xiang Si" itself a big hint, that story is about yearning for lost love forever.

Jing didn't have burden like emperor Cangxuan, nor like general Xiangliu. *Spoiler* Jing problems was solved by his wife Ffyy took TSH away and, XY pretends to be mistress. Inbetween, Jing remain pitifully clingy, did nothing to solve his family problems. Even left his clan, its responsibilities on Ffyy's son, in excuse to follow XY.

Exactly @Kokuto. No one is perfect and neither is Jing. His kindness meant nothing. He broke her trusts & promises cause of his incompetency. In end, he was able to live cause of XY & XL. CX was right to remind her, that Jing already fails her dream of her to be her husband only choice. So, it doesn't matter who she end with. His fans trying to whitewash Jing as saint, woN't change any facts, since, some Dw's fans wrote their version with Jing as main character while accused Tonghua (author/producer) of not knowing her own story. Fortunately, she made it quite clear, by her title preference, "Yearning For You Forever", that story is all about yearning for lost love, shown by Xuan losing XY while XY losing Xiangliu forever.
Yearning in this drama is on next level. Once Xiaoyao said that only 2 types of person can get her, 1st who is 'everything' and 2nd who is 'nothing'. Somehow fate gave her a life lesson, "You can't get everything in life as you want". Her naive self lost her 'everything' Xiangliu and got Jing, who's perfect in sense of 'nothing'. Its kind of her tragedy to endup with someone like Jing, (*Spoiler*) already a failed lover, husband & father, who mostly moped around whole story, clings to her pitifully. He got her on sacrifices of other mld. In end, even left his clan & its responsibilities on son, in excuse to follow her.
So, its understandable, why author never certified story as 'happy ending'. Its not a story where she ends up with a worthy 'knight in shining armor' man. As author signifies, its story about yearning for lost love. Hence, its title... 'Zhang Xiang Si' aka 'Lost You Forever'.

We can't judge a book by its cover. ML is being misunderstood just cause of his straightforward persona, even FL realised it later. Proved by how he falls for same soul in her each transformations. So go on watch it. Its worth it. Lead actor nailed it brilliantly. Its wonderful results speak for itself.
Its hilarious when her father realized that he didn't need to use father's threatening methods on Tang Qi as he's actually a disciplined, straightforward, simple man. He even find that walnut crushing cute now (he doesn't feared it, after their misunderstanding got cleared). Scc's parents certainly hit a jackpot getting him as a son-in-law.😌
