Edit 2: Don't get confused by what I said on Shakespeare Tragedies VS Comedies. It's just that from what I studied and read the two genres are very catagorized. Tragedies are when most main characters death whereas comedies have characters some sort of success or good ending although some plots maybe dramatic. With what you said on tragedies being opposite of comedies just reminded me of this. .

Xiao Yao sat in the corridor staring at the flowers until it was near sunset.

Suddenly the loud screams and roars split the air and Xiao Yao raised her head to see Xiang Liu wearing a white gold mask, wearing a white robe, standing on the back of a white condor in the multi colored dusk clouds. He was holding a silver bow in hand and clearly already shot off an arrow and was cocking his bow to shoot a second one.

“Zhuan Xu! Noooooo!” Xiao Yao shrieked and rushed outside, her mind turning blank when she saw Xiang Liu release the second arrow. Her only thought was that nothing could happen to Zhuan Xu!

When she arrived at the front door, she saw Zhuan Xu sitting on the ground covered in blood, he was looking skyward as Xiang Liu already flown off.

Zhuan Xu projected his voice powerfully “Xiang Liu, one day I will take your life!”

In the cry of the departing condor, Xiang Liu was already far away but his arrogant cocky laugh reverberated in the sky.

Xiao Yao rushed to Zhuan Xu and tightly grabbed him, her body shaking “You…..you…..” Her teeth was chattering and she couldn’t get her words out.

Zhuan Xu grabbed her hand “I’m fine, Feng Long blocked an arrow for me, and the second arrow hit my bodyguard. This blood is all from Feng Long.”

The servants had already carried Feng Long inside and the army doctor was currently treating him.

I think Xiang Liu should stop being a general and go be a killer for hire, he would be world reknown doing that. But Your Majesty, you just arrived this afternoon, how could Xiang Liu know in mere hours that you are here. It’s my lapse and I will investigate thoroughly……”

Feng Long’s body suddenly stiffened and his skin started to turn black.

Xiao Yao screamed “Control his heartbeat!” A powerful guard quickly injected power to stabilize Feng Long.

The army doctor was frantic “The wound has been patched and is non-life threatening. With General’s powers it shouldn’t be like this.”

Xiao Yao fed Feng Long a pill “The arrow had poison on it.”

Zhuan Xu said “Xiao Yao, quickly find an antidote.”

Feng Long stared at Xiao Yao, she might not be the best doctor in the world but she was undoubtedly the best poison master in the world.

Xiao Yao’s hands were cold and her voice shook “Xiang Liu came this time to kill, he used his own blood as the poison.”

“His blood?”

“Xiang Liu’s powers come from ingesting all types of poisons to train. There is no poison in the world that can take him down, so his blood is now the world’s most poisonous thing.”

Zhuan Xu’s heart sank and his face turned ashen.

If she could counter his blood poison then Xiang Liu would have already been poisoned by her. Xiao Yao’s face was stark white and her voice shook “I…..I….I’ll do my best!” She claimed to have top medical skills but who knew the day would come that she would have to watch a friend die.

Xiao Yao was mixing an antidote when she saw Feng Long grasped with another wave of pain as his entire body lower half turned black.

The poison was spreading so fast it didn’t even give her time to try and concoct an antidote. Xiang Liu truly was stone cold and Xiao Yao’s tears fell “I’m useless! I’m so useless!”

Zhuan Xu had thought it was no big deal but now he was watching Feng Long use his life to exchange for Zhuan Xu’s life. He didn’t know what to say other than to keep apologizing “I’m sorry! Feng Long, I’m sorry!”

Feng Long smiled “Don’t be like this, death is inevitable anyways, so I’m merely going earlier than I thought. But I’ve already accomplished everything I wanted to do in life so have no regrets. Other than…..” Feng Long struggled to sit up and kneel before Zhuan Xu.

Zhuan Xu said “I’ll handle it, you needn’t think more of it.”

“No wonder Your Majesty didn’t mention it, you already have a plan to address it.” Yu Jiang was relieved and excused himself.

If Feng Long hadn’t taken that arrow for Zhuan Xu, it would be Zhuan Xu who was dead now! Thinking of the person turning black being Zhuan Xu, Xiao Yao’s body shivered in fear. She was always aware that Xiang Liu and her stood on opposing sides, but with Feng Long’s death today before her eyes, she finally understood the stark reality – Xiang Liu is Zhuan Xu’s enemy! He could kill Zhuan Xu!

Everyone can have their opinions. We can't deny, Jing is a man with money, lack strong will to solve his family problems. XY seems like a eager lover trying to please him. His shallow jealous 15yrs. promise, XY faced his doubts with his fiance & family's scoldings, got heartbroken on his fiance being pregnant, which most of women domestically suffers in reality. He left with XY after making her step son his family successor. In all mlds, Jing has only one thing to do, was provide XY happiness as TSJ which he failed to do so but talking with unreasonable biased fans leads to nothing. Ignoring other leads efforts, some biased Jing fans kept insisting, Jing is perfect. XY should only love him also mocking why TSJ should leave his family for an unknown girl.

See, XL was born orphan, suffered too much as slave, had no one to care for him and always misjudged by people, just cause he's demon. He changed for her, hiding his love, protected XY without burdening her with his feelings. He is her soulmate & understood her loneliness. After XY maze attack, XL kept their heart beating when she was announced dead. He brought her alive, sacrificing 1 one of his life, nursed her with his blood for 37 yrs. Without XL, we will have a dead XY, comatose TSJ & mad CX in end. So, basically XL took most of the brunt in story, being used as tool for XY happy ending with TSJ. Cause of XL, he got to live alive as YSQ with her. XY admits & wish he could be FFB, cause being debted to forster father, XL had never got freedom to live for himself.

Even CX seems better than TSJ. He only became powerful for XY. Title 'LYF' refers to CX loosing XY but also indirectly refers to her loosing XL. Maybe you can't accept other being better than Jing but its not viewers fault if they naturally like others more. Its not a race about who gets girl. (In an interview, YZ said that WXL/XY is capable on her own. Her mom supports XL.) Character complexity, development & their own actions defines & prove their worth in story, whether modern or ancient.

Everyone has their own opinions. Yes I prefer Jing's direct sincere15 years promise to XL's taking advantage of bugs transfering so he could get heart and life connected with Wen Xiao Liu. Even having to drown her to get kiss. It's rejection from her all the way. She definetly knew what he is doing. Even as FFB, he still failed. Her heart was on another man.
That guy never knew how to value direct sincerity, full of secrets to the end. It is his redemption he still cared about XY, in such a controlling way. Well, thinking back, if Feng Long had not taken that arrow with his blood poison (which she had made supported by giving him poison food made by her) to save life for Zhuan Xu, what will happen to XY. Was it must be such a good act for some cowardice people.
Well well never mind TH still redempt him with making his blessing to XiaoJing... So it's happy for us .

Why would producer care those small amount of overseas fans comparing to majority of fans favoring yaojing in its own country and people watched the drama in their own language.
Not all oversea fans favor XL. You are only counting on some online sites that did not cover all viewers of the drama.

It is pathetically funny how some viewers are trying to romanticise and defense abusive behavior and ignore his controling behaviors; and keep praising him whos actions are questionble; able to drown her for advantage 2 times, not at all sincere in taking that bug connection that connect two lives, why just not tell her straightly and yet ended up making her vow viciously. Always made sure he had upper hand in relationship. Those does not work well for every woman.

But about this particular scene, I still don't find it as "mercy". It is as it is his character or showing so.
