I just binged watched the whole thing and I can't wait for the next eps already!! This drama is so amazing I hope…
Genes dont have to be passed down. There are recessive genes that can skip generations so you could for example inherit blue eyes from a great great grandfather even though noone in your family has blue eyes.
Dont know I may be heavily biased here because I love So-Hyun so much but this is an easy 9-10 for me if they dont mess up the ending to be edgy. I mean its episode 11 of a Kim So Hyun drama and still I dont have the urge to kill neither the ML nor the SML..
I'm at episode 18 and still couldn't find it interesting! Rating is High probably because it was released on Netflix…
Im sorry if I misss some of your messages but this website is absolutely atrocious with this comment section. The designer is a sadist for not making it go the comment when I click on my notification but rather only highlighting it and making it find it myself.
I have explained why I prefer WIFTY a tiny bit more and why I love both in the comment I wrote before this one so I wont repeat that. As far as the music goes I like trip hop or old rock like The Doors and Pink Floyd so neither sound tracks are to my taste. But the music is queued better in WIFTY. This is also what Cattree is good at. His rom-com has a more catchy soundtrack than WIFTY and is queued perfectly at the exact moment.
And please dont misunderstand I am not saying Cattree is some genius and the woman who directed Hidden Love is bad. She is also quite talented and Hidden Love does have some beautiful scenes. I think she also directed Mr. Bad with CZY but Im not sure. And Cattree is a very young director who is only praised because of Lovely Us and now WIFTY. Its just that he is more acclaimed (There is a Douban rating for directors too)
Anyway his rom-com Lets Meet Now is in no way on the same level as Hidden Love so he seems to be good at the youth genre.
But if you look at his cinematography its kind of dreamy/hazy kind of nostalgia evoking. Its perfect for youth. It kind of reminds me of the style of Weightlifting Fairy KDrama director. He is also very talented and he is the director of My Lovely Liar. It is also very beautifully shot the music is perfectly queued and Kim So Hyun is doing her best modern drama performance.
To me, it doesn't have the emotional depth of Hidden Love. It is sweet and I do recommend watching it but I found…
No. I came to Our Secret from kdramas and I hated it. Youtube suggested Hidden Love to me and I almost didnt watch it because of Our Secret. Then I saw some youtube clips of HL and saw that CZY acting was actually quite good in HL and later figured out that it wasnt his acting that was bothering me it was the character itself which was poorly written .
Which is quite strange since I usually dont care about the ML at all since I am a guy and for me the most important thing is the FL character. So for me to even consider something to be good the actress has to do a good job in playing and the screenwriter needs to do a good job at writing the female character. The ML usually has to just be passable and not too much of an annoyance.
Thats exactly why I loved both HL and WIFTY. Both stories are written from the perspective of Sang Zhi and Su Zai Zai and both characters were incredibly well written and acted. The fact that the ML were decent in them too was just the cherry on top.
But there is a big difference between the two Sang Zhi is a realistic representation of a young girl in love while Su Zai Zai is more of a slight caricature of a young girl in love. I mean the title of the novel is "She is a Little Crazy" And the whole point of the story is that she goes a bit overboard.
Now since I came from kdrama and my favorite kdrama up to this point was Reply 1988 you can see why I would prefer something like WIFTY over Hidden Love. I simply enjoy the genre more and sometimes I can watch it even if theres no romance at all. For example I enjoyed School 2013 very much and that one has no romance at all if I remember correctly.
Thats not to say I dont enjoy a good rom-com and Hidden Love is way, way up there among my favorites. But still I prefer the youth coming of age stuff just a bit more.
Another thing thats kind of like my drama "fetish" is when the FL is well spoken and when she has beautiful lines.
Theres this drama that everyone hated starring Kim So-Hyun titled Radio Romance which I absolutely loved simply because she played Song Geu Rim which was a radio writer and always had such great lines. That and her acting was enough for me to absolutely love that drama while it was meh to everyone else.
Kind of like Su Zai Zai is always writing in her diary, has cute sms messages, uses language well and is kind of flirtatious.
So the fact that WIFTY is still more of a youth drama like Reply 1988 and the fact that they got the FL to be well spoken and eloquent didnt give poor Sang Zhi much of a chance.
So I loved Hidden Love because it was a very good love story with a hint of youth coming of age and I slightly preffered WIFTY because it was a very good youth/coming of age with a hint of romance. I dont know if that makes sense to you...
Most similar to this would be Lovely Us from the same director BUT Lovely Us doesnt have the adult life part so…
Well its at episode 10 so 3 weeks left. I would wait for it if you waited this long. But Moving is better IMO. Even though its people with supernatural abilities and Disney+ the production quality puts Holywood to shame.
Zhang Miaoyi (Su Zai Zai actress) short drama Back to Seventeen has started airing. Episodes are only like 5 minutes long and its a high school setting. Whoever is missing her, check it out. The ML seems to be the same actor who played her love interest in Lets Meet Now.
Very unpopular opinion. The reviews for this show on this page are potentially bots.Dig into their profiles and…
No they are not. This is rated 7.7 on Douban on a much larger sample size. a 7.7 rating on Douban is VERY VERY high and corresponds to 9.0 on MDL. Hidden Love is rated 6.7 on Douban for comparison. Douban is the website Chinese fans mostly use.
I'm at episode 18 and still couldn't find it interesting! Rating is High probably because it was released on Netflix…
Well yes but Hidden Love is a more mature love story and there arent any memorable characters other than her brother. The supporting staff acting is very sub-par. To the point that some are goofy looking. This isnt the vibe of Hidden Love but it is in WIFTY. I can remember every memorable character in WIFTY from the parents to grandma to the second couple and I loved them very much while watching.
And here again you see what a good director can do its not that the supporting cast of WIFTY are better actors than Hidden Loves its that the director painstakingly shot and re-shot each scene until it was perfect.
Most similar to this would be Lovely Us from the same director BUT Lovely Us doesnt have the adult life part so…
Oh its so good. You can literally see Hwang Minhyuns acting improving from episode to episode because he is learning from So-Hyun. At first she acted circles around him but she is a monster like acting from the age of 9 or something.
When it got to the romance I almost got a heart attack when I saw how good they look together. Stunning visuals.
I'm at episode 18 and still couldn't find it interesting! Rating is High probably because it was released on Netflix…
If you loved Hidden Love so much you should def put First Frost on your watch list. It isnt out yet but its written by the same author and is a spin off with her brother as the ML. Maybe we can get watch it in 2024...
I'm at episode 18 and still couldn't find it interesting! Rating is High probably because it was released on Netflix…
No, the drama was only watched because its Cattrees the actors arent known. So people got to watch it because it was directed by Cattree and its rated high because he did a very good job like with Lovely Us.
His rom-com Lets Meet Now isnt as good as Hidden Love .
I'm at episode 18 and still couldn't find it interesting! Rating is High probably because it was released on Netflix…
Yes 6.7 is a decent rating for a modern rom-com but its not exceptional. WIFTY rating of 7.7 for a youth/coming of age /school drama is exceptional. And a rating of 8.0 for Lovely Us is practically unheard of. So in its genre, WIFTY is more universally acclaimed than Hidden Love is in its genre.
BUT and there is always a but. If you only look at romance/love without the friendship/family/coming of age stuff (first 18 episodes of WIFTY) Hidden Love wins hands down it isnt even a contest. The novel that Hidden Love is based on is MUCH more popular than the novel that WIFTY was based on even if the author (Shu Yi) is the same. It is a better and a more mature story and the ratings for the novels reflect that. The Hidden Love story is from her own experience except hers didnt have a happy ending. Anyway she is a very talented author wrote her first novel at 16 and both stories are very very good. Its just that HL is better.
And In fact the last third of WIFTY I could have done without because the actress Zhang Miaoyi has a very youthful/cute appearance and I feel like they didnt do a good enough job with her hair/make-up/wardrobe to make her look more mature. So to a guy in his thirties some kiss scenes looked a bit uncomfortable. And I know she is 24 and that there is nothing wrong with her kissing on screen but still...
If you look at A Love So Beautiful in that drama they did an excellent job and the actress looked like a high school teen in high school years and a more mature young lady in her adult years.
WIFTY, like Lovely Us shines is in its character development. Let me give you an example The little girl (Su Zai Zai) is extremely open/eloquent brave and outspoken. Uses her words and language very well and dreams of being a diplomatic translator. Then you take a look at how they treat each other in her small 3 member family. They treat her as equal and value her opinion and then you think no wonder she turned out like she did. If you look at Zhang Lurang his mom mistreats him and always compares him to his brother and its no wonder he is introverted/insecure. And the story is beautiful is because they needed each other. If you dont enjoy stuff like that youre not going to like WIFTY.
WIFTY cinematography is also way, way better Ive never seen such beautiful shots. Like the scenes they film under the trees to make the rays of sun drop on Su Zais (Her nickname being the little sun) face through the leaves to make her shine are a work of art. You can see that every single sceen is shot with pure love.
Hidden Love acting is better. Zhang Miaoyi and Zhou Yiran are incredibly talented but their acting needs polishing and thats understandable since this is their debut long drama as leads. Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan are not only incredibly talented but also have a ton of experience.
People come to watch dramas for different reasons and I can understand why someone would love one instead of the other.
Most similar to this would be Lovely Us from the same director BUT Lovely Us doesnt have the adult life part so…
I dont have time to watch it since I am obsessed with 2 kdramas at the moment Moving and My Lovely Liar with Kim So Hyun. And both are so frickin' good. But it did start to notice You are Desire becoming boring at the point where the male lead starting to shoot again and I think I will drop it too. Because I have to work to eat and Im watching too much as it is.
I'm at episode 18 and still couldn't find it interesting! Rating is High probably because it was released on Netflix…
No. Its statistics the more people watch something the more diverse age groups, social groups and genders you get. We call this sample size in statistics. Let me give you an example a rom-coms target audience is mostly female if you have more people watching you can expect more men to watch and the men arent going to like it as much and you will get a lower rating. Whats going to get a good rating there is something thats universally praised like Nirvana in Fire. Trust me I trade the markets and use statistics in my quantitative analysis to make a living.
Most similar to this would be Lovely Us from the same director BUT Lovely Us doesnt have the adult life part so…
You can also try Lets Meet Now its directed by the same director and has the two main actresses from this one in support roles. It isn't as good as WIFTY but its good, very nice soundtrack. Its is a pure rom-com not youth/coming of age like this. A character from Lets Meet Now appears in When I Fly Towards You as a cameo. The psychologist that gives the lecture about love is the SML in Lets Meet Now.
If you like the male lead Zhou Yiran you can check out his currently airing drama You Are My Desire. I havent finished it but its decent so far. He is also filming a new drama with Zhao Lusi from Hidden Love...
Oh if I only had to pick one its def Lovely Us again same director (Mao De Shu/Cattree). Lovely Us is as good if not better then When I Fly Towards you. Higher rated among Chinese fans. You can see Su Zai Zai watching the beginning of Lovely Us in episode 17 of WIFTY when she is sick. In Lets Meet Now the male lead watches the end of Lovely Us.
