Added to that the book extract Peaches gave us, in a way shows he considers Haishi as a tool. A beloved tool, but still a tool.
When I started this drama I was totally on board the FJM & FH love train. Totally into the shifu lover thing. But now I'm totally a Youdu worshipper (as you could probably already tell).
I don't think FJM loves Haishi enough to be worthy of her devotion.
It's like, you can love the stars, but that's not enough to make you an astronaut.
Since there isn't any other available female character in this series (that I have any particular affection for) ... I've decided that Shaozi is actually a female in disguise (this sort of thing is catching). One day Shaozi rescues Youdu's merchant caravan and saves Youdu's life, Youdu falls for him, *ahem* I mean her (Shaozi that is), pursues h...er relentlessly and with total devotion and care, and they live happily ever after.
It's either that or I'm gonna have to go crossing drama-verses and ship Youdu with Dong Shanhu from Rebirth For You, because Jin Xiao was a putz.

But given how I've wrong on other aspects of particular characters ... now I'm wondering whether Jichang might really be a simple idiot, and "eagle" + "dagger" may mean some thing else...
