I was shocked when I saw the rating dropped from 9.4 to 8.5. So it's because some haters huh? No wonder.
Sometimes I think raters should themselves be rated. So you don't like a particular actor. How does that mean the entire production deserves a '1'? If such people can't fairly rate the entire show as a whole, they shouldn't be muddying the rating data, and their rating judgement should, if not totally be discounted, then be minimalised to something like a tenth of the value of a usual rating.
That said, taking a devil's advocate stance, if I'm to take this attitude to people who rate a show 1/10 merely because of one factor, then shouldn't I also be taking a similar attitude to people who persistently rate shows 10/10 out of fangirling?
There's a history between him and emperor yet to be revealed..
Wait ... poison? When did Haishi give the emperor poison?
Or are you talking about when Shifu sucked the poison from her wound?
Mate, this is an old trick. You suck, but don't swallow. You suck, then spit. This used to be a common thing for snake bite treatment. Not a good one, because sometimes the sucker didn't successfully spit all the poison back out, and then got poisoned themselves. So not a good treatment, when you have other options available.
...but I won't talk more on sucking, swallowing or spitting because I might get myself banned. π²π
You had me going there for a while because I've noticed the few frequent scenes where the emperor has been forgetful and I've been wondering whether it's just his insanity coming home to roost, or whether there might be something more nefarious going on. So when you said "he drank even the poison from Haishi" for a moment I thought you meant Haishi gave the emperor poison! π
Someone should summaries from ep 1 to 8 give me. Does the king want to marry hai shi?
The king wants to marry shifu, but he's frustrated by shifu's nonsensical belief that he caused the death of the king's empress, so the king keeps tormenting shifu in various ways to get shifu's attention. Hai Shi is merely is the next opportunity the king sees to torment shifu to satisy the king's twisted adoration.
Meanwhile Hai Shi has the secret hots for Zhe Liu, but knows her brother also has a thing for Zhe Liu, so Hai Shi is determined to keep her crush to herself. Her secret love only shows itself when Hai Shi subconciously tries to get closer to Zhe Liu by mimicking her pouch making skill.

So far so good. I can't complain at all, the show is beautiful. Costumes, cinematography are gorgeous. For me…
For me, China's industry seems to put out so many new dramas, in a way it's unavoidable for any popular tropes to become overused. (That they put out a lot of productions is a good thing, I'm definitely not complaining!)
...and personally I've got a thing for the 'having a crush on shifu' trope, so I'm all in!
That it's a Yang Mi production also helps. She seems to always be involved in well-produced dramas. At least in these last few years - I haven't made my way through her earlier works yet.
I've been dreading the inevitable criticism of Yang Mi becoming older but still playing a younger role ... because I think it doesn't matter since she still does such an excellent job of it.
Ok, has everyone noticed the 'Fang Jian Ming is the one is injured whenever the emperor gets hurt' thing? That is, that the emperor's physical injuries are mysteriously passed on to shifu's Fang Jian Ming's body? And the emperor mentioned something about how Fang Jian Ming is no longer a Lord? That plus Fang Jian Ming's guilt for not acting in time so that the empress & her child lived...?
I'm wondering how it's all inter-related, and how it'll affect the plot in the end...
ARGH!! This is the problem with watching new dramas as their airing. Now I'm tempted to go read the book in stead of waiting for the revealing episodes!!
Yes it's all up to the director to get the best performances from the actors. I don't know about the rest of the…
Big spoiler! He finds her interesting not because she does anything particularly good, but because her killing intent is all completely focussed on him. He's got a death wish and he thinks maybe he's finally found someone who actually wants and is willing to kill him. THAT is what is 'interesting'. :)

(Check the schedule in the photo section.)
I'm guessing Tilan brought up Zizan's name on purpose to get that particular reaction. Who's with me?
More interested in the adoration I see in the lingering looks between Ti Lan and that delicately fragile eunuch?

Is any of the above true ... who knows?
o.O
You'll just have to watch the drama to find out!

Don't Cha ... huh Jupiter
Don't Cha
aaaaah
Don't Cha
I've read what others have said about the ending, or who ends up with who ... and I've decided to be truculent.
I DON'T CARE!!
I'm watching it anyways.
And as far as I'm concerned shifu is her one and only until the drama shows me otherwise.
Just the rest of you and come and try to make me believe otherwise, I'm ready and waiting!!!!!
...why can't I find emojis for something like boxing gloves? I don't think a fist bump emoji fits my mood right now...

Edit : Doh! Why do I always misspell emperor? Time and time again!

Loving this show so far!!

Let's be honest now ... who wouldn't develop a little crush on their caring teacher, when said caring teacher has such a steller naked torso!?
