I dont want BJT giving same feelings as Sang Yan in hidden love ngl cuz i dont like it, i'm sorry but i drop HL bc of SY, probably because it was just far from my imagination of how Sang Yan act. It's different novel but imo SY still would not be so wacky like that even while annoying SZ or just being his shameless self towards YF & his friends. His nonchalant image is just too strong in my mind but i'm not expecting him to be aloof all the time, i just think he will also not look too goofy while being annoying during my reading experience.

Different production. First frost adaptation was announced in 2022, i only came to know Victor Ma was playing Sang yan in Hidden love few days before HL airs. Throughout 2022 to 2024 period, before and after HL was aired, there were countless leads rumors and Victor Ma was never among FF rumors. Popular Sang Yan contender would be Zhang Linghe and Song Weilong iirc.

A week before Hidden Love was aired, First Frost production team in Douyin clarify that Sang Yan in Hidden Love is not the same Sang Yan so it is safe to say he was never considered. I don't know how accurate the drama would be from the novel but Sang Zhi and DJX has very minimal roles in FF novel compared to Sang Yan presence in HL so it make sense why they are not acting as SZ & DJX again, I would hate if they change that to be honest.

I saw the post about him being top pick but idk it was because of reset influence too. I'm also hoping the same i especially want to shut every hater's mouth who dislike him as Sang Yan, he is the only Sang Yan i recognised (followed by Chen Feiyu)

Indeed bai jingting has it all, it make perfect sense why he is chosen. He is not what i visualise as sang yan (my first pick is chen feiyu) but i'm so happy he will be playing sang yan, i will pick him over other rumored ml any other days.

Hidden love IS popular. If one (intl fans) do consume manhua or chinese novel they will knew about the novel because of the popularity, it is far from flop. I do remember seeing the manhua on my tiktok back in 2021-2022, it's like everywhere for me.

In fact hidden love popularity benefit first frost at first (since hidden love was released first) it just first frost especially sang yan character became more popular later. it is most probably because of the writing and the characterisation of both leads, FF writing is more mature and readers just love their love story more, and of course: sang yan. a key to popular romance novel (since it's mostly catered to female readers) is when the author make ml so lovable, DJX is cute but Sang Yan set a high standard and people are attached to it, but both books are zhuyi best seller, from the novel to radio drama to manhua.

Popularity wise, i would say bjt > lusi > ruonan > czy, but in term of fandom size lusi might have the biggest out of all, im not sure between her and bjt, but i do think hers is bigger.

Lusi is more popular than ruonan tho and lusi is not unknown actress, she is the most popular among 95🌸. Hidden love is also carried by the fact that it is a popular novel and manhua. The reuters were everywhere back in 2022 because of the anticipation. It is one of the most anticipated 2023 drama for a reason.

Of course first frost is a very popular novel too and sang yan character is among very popular ml novel characters (more popular than DJX) so this will also help in the drama promotions. Bai jingting is THE lusi in this situation (altho he has more public recognition) and ruonan being CZY albeit ruonan is more known due to her movies.

the community you refer to probably just the drama community? and of course novel fans included ig. first frost as a novel is more popular in china, that's why first frost live action has higher ip than hidden love. if it does well and loved by novel fans too higher chances first frost community will be bigger, since sang yan (character) is more popular than sang zhi and djx combined. that's why there is so many first frost melon from 2022 because the novel is so popular.

there we got it, you just want the original cast but you mask it by saying the casting was wrong. even if it did, bai jingting is absolutely the better choice here 🤷🏽‍♀️ better height, better looks, better acting skills, and definitely better pulls for the rating. victor ma indeed did good job potraying sang yan as the script was given to him, but as a novel fan, i really dislike his potrayal so i for one glad of the cast change and glad that the casting team went for a solid actor who is known for good script choice and good acting skills.

as someone who read the first frost novel first, it hard to accept his potrayal. all his "annoyed" expressions or basically his facial expression is giving goofy or funny guy, which if the character is an original character, he indeed act the role well, but since it is from source material, it is hard to adjust to his potrayal because imo sang yan is too unbothered to exercise his facial expressions like that.

sang yan is arrogant, cocky and aloof. sang yan in first frost definitely think himself too mighty to be doing all those exaggerated expressions. i think victor ma act the role according to script he received well, but as someone who read the novel first and really really love sang yan, i am not a fan of his potrayal.

finally someone who shared the same thinking! i definitely do not perceive him as a pedo but him instantly accepting his feeling and chasing after her weird me out because he did not battle for what he feels for her at all! not even in the novel! as you said, the age gap was highlighted so much, he should be more conflicted instead of proceed to chase after her. it feels like he didnt think it was a big deal at all, which is technically not but still, he do see her growing up altho not frequent

i bet 100% you never read sang yan's novel. sang yan love story is superior than hidden love, well if you are more into mature romance.

sang yan's character in hidden love is different from his character in first frost, and him in his original element is much better, that's why for me personally i do not like victor ma's intepretation of sang yan. he turn sang yan into funny goofy guy when he is not.

but that is besides the point, i do recommend you reading sang yan story because their love story gave me so much butterflies and sang yan is truly a superior character in his own love story, if you think you like duan jiaxu, i'm not exaggerating when i said sang yan is so much better than him.

the guy playing sang yan is an actor for which his acting skills are recognised by gp. his drama always did well and he certainly can potray an accurate sang yan compared to victor ma's. do yourself a favor and go read sang yan love story eventho you not watching the show.

while both SWL & ZYX's height is indeed more close to the character's, they did kept the height difference betwee BJT & ZRN the same to the characters. plus, there were not much difference from the original height so it's not like it was too far fetched or them both being too short. in your other comments you said to keep the original cast for which ma boqian is clearly shorter than sang yan original's height too, so which one is it?

and i hate to be that person but song weilong acting compared to bai jingting is very much lacking. i have seen him in the bionic life where his role is a bit cold and while he pull of the looks, his acting is not so convincing; at least for me. on the other hand, bai jingting has flower boy face but he is able to pull off the police, serious roles in you are my hero so well that makes him so charming, he was cold and arrogant when he need to be and he does it so well.

i for one really love esther, she's among my fav along with reba. but i get what u mean by she overreact in some scenes (but i think it was intended?) bc ep1, her screaming scene does make me cringe but she grow up each ep. i enjoy LBFAD but it's not among my fav but i do think they act well especially for sad scenes. i think wang hedi is really charming in that drama.

i do recommend you to watch my journey to you to see another side of esther acting, she is potraying serious assassin role and imo she definitely nails the character, i dont love the drama tho (in fact i kind of hate it but many enjoy it) but u can try watch first 3 ep if u havent or if u interested just to see her range :)
