this is not simply a bl, but a true queer representation that tackles faith. thank you for serving us this series…
Hmmm... I would be careful with such characterisation. As a gay man I would say NO, it is not. It's beautiful that all is so nice but it's so far away from the catholic church in the 90ties as it only could be. Not realistic at all. It's a fairy tale where we have priests supporting their gay pupil... and in this case not sexual abusing them as it was so common in that time and before. There is no critical dispute about the teaching of the catholic church either and of course no discourse if the original text was ever be meant homophobic as it is interpreted now by many. Don't forget all the gay/trans/lesbian hate came from the church originally, they did not only kill gays, they burned woman alife.
I did indeed! I researched what you said and found it was spot-on and completely accurate.
then you did not understand the story. The romance was NOT the point, not the focus. And it was not a BL, so why did you expect romance? Your "view" is too narrow. They did all the small things, the little gestures, the little micro expressions, so you don't need a plain romance. In the context of japanese society it was perfectly done. Don't compare your cultural values with japanese values. That will never work. You need to understand the cultures first. Just consuming is not the way to go. That's why you may cling to thai shows because they do westernize their scripts which pisses me off immensely and what they did with "Love Upon a Time" - it was just british and then later US influence which produced the gay/trans hate... but it was never so extreme compared to India, where that part of indian culture was destroyed.
Fake Fact Lips was a BL. It was an anime done in live-action with all the sillyness you expect from an anime, but with the maturity and seriousness their relationship required. As I wrote in my review "As I have mentioned it the Fukami review, this actors did go the extra mile to embody their characters without any doubts about it. And of course they did not shy away from kissing and having tasteful NC-scenes."
Both shows are completely different the one is gay story, the second a traditional BL but in both shows the actors embodied their characters to 100% accuracy.

strongly disagree, the acting is great for all the shows I recommand. Did you find the acting of "Life in Smokey Blue" lacking? Nope. They were great even with micro facial expressions.
Watch it and you will see that they can do it even more.
I am greatly bothered by something in the third story of the trilogy. Nobody seems to remember that early on Suea…
That's what I meant with "no consequences because he is Mafia I suppose". I have no clue how the novel handled it... I understand how they can keep it hidden, but I would have expected Suea to be traumatized, because he clearly did not like to do it. But as usual thai scriptwriters are the worst and no thought has been wasted on it.

With all the AI slob out in the world, confirming something will get harder and harder because AI is learning from haluzinating other AIs. Big publishing houses is firing left and right and AI is writing stuff up which may be true or not. Nobody knows :)
I also don't use social media for anything, because it's just a cesspool of toxicity and a confirmations bubble for any bubble imaginable.
Tips: Domundi has only boy/girl pairings if you have not already noticed. There is no boy/boy pairing. The closest to a boy/boy pairing would be Max & Nat but they are always punished with very bad scripts. We will see if that changes with their new series. So to rant about it, will not help in the least :) But you can rant about the scriptwriters :D And the scripts are always hetero-normalized, which is quite sad for a "gay" company. Don't expect anything out of Thailand, most shows will be mediocre at best and awful at worst.
Explore the japanese realm which much more diversity in stories and characters. The only two Thai shows I recommand are "Shine (uncut aka Orchestral Version" and an oldy "180 Degrees Latitude Passes Through Us".
PS.: Double Helix is not the most toxic, that goes to "To My Shore" - which is not only toxic but the most manipulative and mentally abusive male lead you have ever seen and because of it, it's really painful to watch. It's not entertainment at all. But I like both of them because the acting is great, the productions is great and compared to other toxic series they do try to explain stuff and have an redemption arc.

I c. And when have I ever lied in my reviews? Nope, it don't say that to be mean. I'm happy that at least one person reading my reviews, is doing the research all the fangirls ignore, because they never care about a story.
Not really :)I have too much to do to watch crappy thai BLs, so I always hope for the best. Thankfully Japan is…
You should skip most TBLs and skip only occacionally JBLs which would make you a saner person overall :) Khemjira was one of the best what Thailand produced in the last 3 years, but the script had a nosedive in the end... When JBLs focus on NC scenes, it's for a reason. In TBLs it's just fanservice. 2023 "My Personal Weatherman" shocked the viewers because it was very explicit from the start... I would also recommand watching this.
You have probably seen me like quite a few of your reviews. However, this was very helpful! I had originally started…
Not really :)
I have too much to do to watch crappy thai BLs, so I always hope for the best. Thankfully Japan is growing up with not only BLs but also just plain gay stories.
It was ok till the revealed the plot and that was soooooooo awful... and that they neglected the side-couples is a cardinal sin in my book.
As of "Why on earth did I enjoy this"... you learn, you grow up, but many girls/woman do not... it's best said from one of the leads of "The Boy and I Who Will Break Up in 100 Days" (a series you should watch): "Those people who love watching guys making out, they only put us on a pedestal because we're two guys kissing. And they get all excited debating who's the top and who's the bottom." (not much guessing with thai ships) - But that's the problem with the whole industry... it's over-sexualized and a dumbed-down industry. As long as the ships are hugging, kissing and f*cking most people don't care about the story.
Hmmm... one source says the series has 10 episodes... so they may resolve the issues.I just hope it's not a forced…
Of course it does... there is no fluff and no f*cking... there is nothing over sexualized in this series... There are no villains in the pairing, only the boss of Yuma was a slimey dirty asshole :)
Wow you rarely give out 10s, I will definitely watch this one because of your rating. Will binge it this weekend.
rarely? nah... "Life in Smokey Blue" & "Fake Fact Lips" were also a 10. For good reasons. But medicore thai BLs don't justify them... There are only two thai series worth a 10 (Shine Orchestral Version & 180 Degrees Latitude Passes Through Us).

MDL decided the show ended... so no worries about that anymore... In a year they can do a season 2 and then we will have had time to process all of their failings...
I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I felt the story did not do a good job balancing sympathy with…
Both are flawed character and yes both did bad/wrong things, that's the point of the story. In their way both were selfish, disregarding their partner. They never respected each other as different individuals with different desires and world views. And both were very bad in communicating. Their meeting should have been a one night stand, but ended up in an ill faited relationship.
So there is no need to be balanced.
We all know they did wrong - Over the episodes they both recognize their failures bit by bit. But the story ended here and we can only speculate if they can turn in a better human beings in the future.

Maybe a season 2 where they learn about each other?
