That maybe so, but the problem is it reflects on reality. Fans watch BLs and say gay sex is gross or as it happens the lead is really gay and thats gross. And I think WTF? There are enough practices in heterosexual sex I find gross, but that's never shown in any heterosexual drama besides rape which is always negative. At least I never saw a story where a woman is raped and they life happily ever after. If you want to watch dark or sad series you can do so, but they are mostly not "rewarded" by fans. For example "Happy of the End" or "180 Degrees Longitude Passes Through Us". The first is one of the few which also show heteros can be sick bastards and the second one shows how the pressure of society does hinder people from a happy life. I ask the question, if this storypoints were necessary to make the series and I say "no". They did not need to include that. If Wei just would not act like a homophobic prick it would have elevated the series. And Chi Cheng as gay man would not think a gang-rape is a good punishment.
So disappointed they turned this into comedy, they should have stuck to the first trailer concept
they will mix it, it's neither a comedy nor a drama nor something else... it will be the typical fangirl appeal... maybe at least the story makes sense...

I guess it was done to protect the actors because in the city filmed there will be an international summit and everytime when something like that happens, the censorship authority will put pressure on the production company and the actors. That's why the last episodes were rushed out. So, I speculate they did that really for self protection.
The did de-toxic the story from the book, but they did not de-homophobic the lead. That I agree with. But I think they did not think of the consquences or making it more real. That happens when woman write for women and a woman directed for women :)

Dear Coupranghae, I know it's practice to dub because of the thousands of dialects in Mandarin. Which does not mean it has to be made sloppy. And the soundeffects were also made sloppy - not balanced. And that is an distraction which breaks the immersion and that is a no go in my book.
If a chinese series is done for a non-chinese market, there would not be a need to dub, because it would not matter if the Mandarin is standard or not (maybe except Singapore and Taiwan). It's also practice to have chinese subtitles anyways. Of course they could dub it for the visual impaired or blind people. I don't know if "Stay With Me (2023)" was dubbed or not, at least I did not notice it or at least I do not remember that I noticed it. So quality is key.
So, I don't care if they dub it or not, I only care if the quality is met. And they did not.
Welcome. If you don't understand a series or episode, I would recommand to rewatch it again... because if you have to wait week for week your memory can be fuzzy. Binge-watching a whole series does help.
