I see your point, and I agree that personal choice and temperament matter a lot. And honestly, yes, the fourth sister is often emotionally shortsighted (and dumb) —but I think that’s exactly why I still have some hope for her. She’s driven by feelings and words, which makes her easy to sway, but it also means she isn’t fixed yet.
People choose who they become, but they don’t all start with the same emotional tools.

Totally agree they could have tried to learn and compete in a healthier way, the family environment clearly rewarded obedience, silence, and appearances more than real growth, so they were never really taught how to compete constructively.
I also wish RSB showed more genuine warmth—especially toward the fourth sister—but I also understand why she’s emotionally guarded after everything.

I agree that people aren’t blank slates—personal disposition absolutely matters. Even in fair environments, some people will still be lazy, jealous, or power-hungry. But I don’t think “nature” and “environment” are either/or. The same environment can amplify certain traits and suppress others. Favoritism, competition, and conditional approval don’t create flaws out of thin air, but they do reward specific behaviors and punish others, which shapes how those traits play out.

So while some sisters may never have had Shanbao’s temperament, the system still narrowed their chances to grow in healthier directions. In that sense, responsibility isn’t just about who people are born as, but about which qualities are encouraged, tolerated, or actively cultivated.

I get what you’re saying. At the same time, that argument only really works if we ignore the environment Grandma herself created. She actively groomed the sisters to compete with one another, rewarding obedience and pitting them against each other, which naturally bred resentment. In a different dynamic—one that encouraged cooperation instead of rivalry—there’s a real chance they could’ve developed those “useful” qualities together. Just imagine how much they might’ve accomplished if all that energy had gone toward a shared goal rather than internal scheming.

yeah I get, the grandma said that on several occasions, and I mean technically she's not wrong - no matter how good RSB is, there ARE other sisters, I just hate that they are not united, like what's wrong with delegating important tasks and making decisions together, rather than display the favoritism and then throw it in her face once things don't go smoothly....RSB needs to throw that whole family away and go live in the capital with our ML 😂
